My husband and I came here over two years ago, and he passed away in March. I've chosen to stay here. We used every level of service as he deteriorated. My family and I believe he was as happy, loved, entertained and comforted more here than any other place we could have found. I have felt very protected since Covid 19 started with all protocols enforced. No place is perfect; not even at home. But I don't believe we could have found a place that met our needs better than The Belmont at West Lake Hills. If I did, I'd move.

They entertained him all day, went along with his silly stories, and took such great care of him. My dad had Lewy body Dementia and was in the highest level of care they provided. He ultimately had a stroke last week and passed away. Thankfully, they let us be with him in his last few days and provided support and privacy and lots of comfort. So many of the caregivers, staff, and others who worked there stopped in, some with tears, and told us sweet memories and funny stories about our dad. We love this place and would recommend it to anyone. Also, dad loved their food and often got seconds. Thank you to everyone who cared for him.

A lot of people in and out to visit and hospice was there almost every day. They were so welcoming and accommodating and kind with everyone. More important was the incredible care they gave our dad. They couldn't have treated him with more attention, love, and skilled care. They consistently reported back to us how things were going in detail and were in lock-step with hospice. We felt so relieved to have him in such a wonderful place. And, it is clean, has a large parking area... a very comforting and homey feel.

The Skilled Nursing Section of the facility is managed cohesively, with a strong underpinning of compassion and motivation to achieve individual goals for their patients. I've been reflecting on this review since I first moved my elderly parents into this facility a…read moreyear and a half ago. I hesitated to write a review earlier, because I did not know if it would affect their care. Sadly they have now both passed. If I could have offered this feedback directly and felt that it would be heard, I would have done that. But my strong impression dealing with the management here is that they are not interested in feedback and do not view it as a way of learning or improving as a business, but rather as a waste of time and a source of resentment. So I just want to make sure others have an informed understanding of what they are getting themselves into here. The kind of review that I wish I had had myself when I first uprooted my parents, both of them with advanced Parkinson's Disease, and moved them across the country from Pennsylvania to live here. Highlights: - The facility is very beautiful. That was what I was sold on originally. - The sales team is kind and good at their job. I feel that they did their best to lean in and smooth the way for my parents and for me, even though when it came to actual management of the residence, that went beyond their scope. - There are many individual nurses and caregivers who are very caring and good at their jobs. - Overall I believe that the facility is mismanaged. The leadership of the center is inaccessible. They do not come to work. They do not pick up their phones. They do not respond to emails. There are no company email lists that allow you to get greater visibility for your communication so that someone higher up will hold the facility accountable to respond--your email goes into an individual email inbox where it is largely ignored. - The nurses and caregivers are not actively managed. No one helps them organize themselves or facilitates communication. No one is present to see first hand when they are over-stretched and cannot handle all of the individual needs on their floor. This results in some pretty serious mismanagement of medication. One time I discovered purely by accident, because I happened to visit, that my father had not received his Parkinson's medication for 3 days, because they had not re-ordered it from the pharmacy or had some type of snag. And they did not call me or make sure that it was resolved. They just let the medication lapse. - Once I saw that was happening, I went far, far, far out of my way to create written medication schedules to try to ensure medication was administered correctly. Multiple times my father himself caught incorrect medication, even though he was barely in a cognitive state to be able to do that and it was very unfair for him to have to be concerned with it. Again, I do not attribute this to the nurses. They are good, well meaning people who want to do their jobs. I attribute it to management that does not put in place systems for them or help organize things or ensure good communication. They just are sort of left there to function as best as they can without leadership. - Most of the nurses / caregivers they hire are good, but some are NOT good. Early on, there was a nurse on the team who got into a very adversarial relationship with my mother, trying to force her to go to bed or to get up or something that she did not want to do. When I came to visit after a week trip I found her in a paranoid, delusional state, convinced that someone was trying to hurt her. Of course she was very sick and it was basically a delusion. But when I interacted with that nurse myself, I understood why she felt that way. He was aggressive and controlling. They did promise to fire that nurse. But then on a future occasion I came back and found him there. I had to complain again. - Memory care is a bit better. But primarily it is better because once someone is on hospice, they have access to a separate hospice provider who comes INTO the facility to provide care. And that hospice provider is excellent, top to bottom. I cannot possibly say enough good things about them. But they are not employed or managed by the center. They just come in on a daily basis to provide care. - In the last month of my father's life, he developed very severe delusions arising out of Parkinson's related dementia, and became aggressive. It was very sad and very hard to watch. My father was a mild-mannered mathematician all his life. It simply was not him or his character to behave in the way he did. - I was so upset by the way the facility handled this. They called the police on him. I had to drop everything and rush over to keep them from escalating past a point of no return. When I went up to the apartment, Brenda, the leader in charge of AL, was smirking and laughing at him and his delusions. It turned my stomach. It still keeps me up at night. If you have your parents or loved ones here, please be prepared to work directly with the staff yourself to ensure communication & good care. It requires constant vigilance.

In the evenings, there were many times that no attendants were on the 2nd floor and only one attendant worked the first floor during the night shift. One attendant for the whole facility! Even during the day, we could ring the call button for help and it could take over 20 minutes. It took its toll on my 92 year-old mother. She was worn out trying to care of my 94 year-old father. Now she loves where she lives. My advice to anyone moving their parents to an assisted living facility is to read reviews, get A LOT of references and check references. Prioritize care over chandeliers. This place is beautiful but lacks in care.

The speech therapist at West Oaks was very patient, on the phone almost an hour as we did conference call to sisters bank to get sister to authenticate me. The Nurses have been patient with my calls asking them to walk to sisters room because she is unable to answer her cell phone in her condition. Adam the manager is friendly and runs a good ship.

Dealing with management was a nightmare, and the care given my mother was minimal, at best. If micromanaging every aspect of your loved one's care is how you want to spend your time, then, by all means, choose BO. However, if you require real care for your loved one, there is another assisted living facility in town that is exceptional, Sodalas of Buda. The FIRST day we moved mom in, after several instances of communication, BO forgot that she was arriving!! We had even postponed the move-in a day, and BO was notified, and they couldn't even get that right! And, when I first asked about visiting her, I was told that I needed to inform them at least the day before each visit. In retrospect, I should have turned and run then, but I felt that with COVID (This was June, 2021), that maybe they were taking extra precautions, and that was hopefully a good sign. I ended up asking them to put me down for visits every day, and it never came up again. As far as the business office, it was a nightmare to work with. Perhaps because of her ineptness, the executive director was more often than not passive aggressive with her correspondence (both written and in-person) with my brother and myself. Mistake after mistake after mistake, and NEVER an apology. We were always told that anything she did was "as a courtesy." Numerous billing errors, non-working fax machines, vaccine mix-up's, miscommunication across the board, among many other issues were experienced not once, but often at BO. The NUMBER ONE reason anyone lives in assisted living is because he/she can no longer independently take care of him/herself. In other words, this person no longer has the mental facilities and/or physical capabilities of self-care. When I would visit my mom, she would often be unkempt and unclean. Her hair was messy, dirty, and uncombed, and her body would often smell. The rotating staff (they couldn't keep anyone) would tell me that she refused to bathe, or if it was to go to dinner, she refused to go to dinner, or for anything else they didn't want to do, they would use the excuse that she refused to cooperate and they couldn't force her. I understand that they couldn't force her to do anything she didn't want to do, but, as I discussed several times with the wellness director, the employees should be trained to work with assisted living residents. When working with children or those with diminished capacities, one who is properly trained or has any common sense, doesn't ask if they want their diaper changed or a shower, the caretaker, in a nice, but firm manner, tells them what they're going to do. It works! The day before we moved my mom out, my daughter and I had come to BO @ 11:15 am to pack things up. My mom was still in bed with one leg on the floor, unable to get up. She said she was ok, but finally, we helped her up about 12:30ish, and when she weakly walked to the bathroom, her Depends were sagging below her knees and urine was dripping out onto the floor. I called down to see why she hadn't had breakfast, AND why no one had come to get her for lunch. She had no water, no food at least that morning, and I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't have any Saturday (the day before) also. She was dehydrated, yet her Depends were so full, they were dripping. This is DEFINITELY elderly neglect. If a child isn't given food (even though he/she says, "No!," and his/her diaper isn't changed for over a day, society would call that child neglect and even child abuse.) A little later, a really hateful girl brought a horrible lunch with no drink and no apologies from anyone. Once again, they said she didn't want to go eat. UNACCEPTABLE! From the beginning, housekeeping at BO was poor. Trash was to be removed daily-I often did it myself. Laundry was to be done at least weekly; the first four-five months when I was visiting, when her laundry basket would be overflowing and smelly, I actually would do her laundry myself. After numerous complaints, it finally was addressed and did improve the last few months she lived there. Her apartment also smelled terribly; I would actually open the window, whether cold or warm outside just to remove the smell. This was also addressed numerous times with management, and it did improve a little at the end. With Sodalis, my mother's apartment has NEVER had a bad odor. We encountered problems on EVERY level of care at BO, and my brother and I can finally relax as we no longer have to manage all aspects of my mom's care or lack of it. We still will be actively involved, but at my mom's new home, Sodalis Buda, the staff and management have earned both my respect and my trust.
