I had A plus install a new HVAC system. They did a horrible job and made many mistakes. The largest mistake was when they installed our furnace incorrectly. The furnace shut down and was damaged, leaving us without heating in the middle of the winter. They refused to make adequate repairs until I spent significant time documenting and demanding repairs. Called A Plus because my AC stopped cooling my home to temperature at night. Over the course of three separate visits in less than a week, two different technicians came out, charged me $400 total for various repairs, and the unit's performance never changed -- still couldn't hit the temperature I needed. On one visit, the technician left without saying a word to me and left my front door unlocked on his way out. I didn't know he'd left or what he'd done. I later found out he hadn't actually done anything to address the issue. When I called back to say the problem still wasn't fixed, "Greg" called me and was condescending -- explained basic AC function to me, and claimed Austin "doesn't even want" my AC at 72 degrees when it's 100 outside. It hasn't been 100 degrees, and I was only trying to cool the house at night, when outdoor temps are much lower -- so his explanation didn't even apply to my situation. He also told me to call the city to have them check if my AC unit was part of some "green homes" program. When I said I'd never heard of that, he admitted he hadn't either -- so I'm not sure why he suggested it. Three paid visits, $400, no fix, an unlocked house, and a dismissive callback that included advice he couldn't even back up. Can't recommend. read more

In 2022 I replaced my entire HVAC system with a local A/C company. As their 3 year labor warranty was nearing end, it became increasingly difficult to get them to fix even minor issues. They answered the phone, got my name and address and had a technician at my house by 9am, the technician checked the unit out, replaced a capacitor and had my unit cooling again by 9:45am. A year ago this month, I hired A-Plus Air Conditioning to install a new HVAC and furnace. After acquiring several quotes from different HVAC companies, I decided to go with APLUS because of the great level of customer service provided by Mr. Craig and his team. The process started with a quote and a visit from Mr. Craig where he took the square footage of each room to determine the appropriate HVAC size unit and air flow that should go into each room. He then provided me with three HVAC quotes with different HVAC brands and guided me on the HVAC system that was within my budget. While in the attic, Mr. Craig then informed me of the HVAC components that needed to be replaced "now" and those HVAC components that could be replaced "in the future". I was grateful for his honesty because I could see the HVAC components that needed to be replaced "now". Mr., Craig left me with three quotes and the information I needed to make an informed decision as to which HVAC/furnace to go with. After securing financing, I contacted Andie at the A-Plus Air Conditioning Office and informed her of my decision to install "NEW HVAC everything" because in the long run it would be cheaper than having old components work with new components. Since installation in December 2023, the house has been very comfortable. Through the heat of summer and the cold of winter every room has an even temperature. At the beginning of the process, Mr. Craig crunched the numbers to determine the amount of air flow that should be going into every room to obtain a 100% comfortable indoor environment. I called because we woke up this morning with the fridge in cahoots. I was offered a great price. But the Owner, who happened to be the one that answered the call recommended I call Samsung. I explained that I had and was told that they wanted proof of purchase and proof of delivery, which I had neither. After I spoke to him, I called Samsung again and they were able to reset it. Old Austin Service with reasonable prices! Hunter is our A-Plus HVAC Service Representative and he has been teaching us about the system as he works on our HVAC system. He determined what the problem was quickly. It was a leak because the HVAC drain P-trap was clogged. He cleaned it out and checked the pan, but not before showing us how it should be maintained/cleared out. It turned out that our P-trap didn't allow for easy flushing or blowing out the drain clogs. We can now take care of the drainage maintenance ourselves. A-Plus doesn't try to sell you a lot of follow up services you don't necessarily need. This type of service harkins back to a time in Austin that ensured customers were a priority. I applaud this business's ability to keep this level of service at such a high bar. A-Plus was a life saver during the heat wave. Our whole system went out, and they did everything they could to squeeze us in and install a replacement. We've had a couple of issues specific to our house since then (not their fault), and they're always responsive to get here as soon as possible. It's a small family-owned business, and Greg the owner came out to do a finally look over our new system. I explored two projects with A-Plus, in the end a losing experience unless you want to be sold to continually. First project: Re-venting house. Paid owner $100 to come over and offer assessment as well as quote the project (other companies did this for free). Liked the way he thought, quote was 20% over other quotes, and the thoughts weren't that much different though I liked the way he explained things. Thought it was money well spent. Did the project with competing bidder because, that was a chunk of money, eh? AND. Hired A-Plus for annual maintenance. First annual check-up arrived, tech came over, after less than 10 minutes, came and sat me down at the table. Started to tell me how poorly the system was doing, three different ages of components, and that needed to replace all of the components. Sending someone out to give a quote for what that would look like. Enter owner's son. How lucky! He was available and could pop over within the hour. Super Super Super! He Spent less than 5 minutes looking at the system and then over 60 minutes explaining the differences in the new systems they wanted to sell me. Cost: $6000-$20,000 and up. Wassup A-Plus? That's a chunk of money there too?! I got a second opinion and a third, none of them wanted to replace the whole system or any component. They didn't mention any of the selling points that A-Plus was pushing. Nada. Not one. Did I say, none of them?! I called A-Plus, cancelled my annual check-up, and since I had paid in full for a full year ($180 - the only way they do it!), asked for a refund on the portion I wouldn't be using. Was informed they would consider it and call me back. NEVER DID. I called them back 2 months later, spoke to the same rep, was told she would call me back. DIDN'T. Nada. Nothing. No rings. I called back two weeks later, finally within 48 hours we had a solution - they would refund $60. Took it and ran just to end the relationship. And, the son keeps calling me to sell me a unit whenever they have sales. Seems like there is more amiss than one could hope for. I get some of the positive reviews, but I'd look elsewhere if your system isn't brand new or you're not looking to replace it. And if you are - get a second opinion! BTW, my system still running sweet, perfectly, and no components replaced. Haven't done a thing A-Plus was insisting needed to be done. Yahoo! It's written as though the experience unfolded this way, that of course one would want this to unfold this way, etc...and while it has truth to it - it's wrapped and prettied up so that you, the yelp reader, get a clear sense of how they run things from their point of view. Great, that's what the platform is about. So, a few responses from me the reviewer: Arturo was at my home, and yes those facts are true. The conversation was not one that was gearing me towards letting it sit - it was geared towards me purchasing and installing new units for all three parts of the system (you'll notice, one of the was 1 year old). And Josh was not following up, he was clueless in his message AND it was after 4 months of no communication at all. In October A+ installed a new Lennox top-of-the-line hi-efficiency heat pump with which I was most impressed since day one. However, when we had our recent cold snap and the temp dropped to 15 degrees it stopped functioning. I was very impressed when the smart thermostat texted the A+ service dept. in the middle of the night and shortly after 8am that morning I was contacted by David who said a tech would be out by 9:30am. Needless to say, Hunter the technician got things operating again but it was a temporary fix. Later in the week he returned to make an adjustment with the thermostat which appears to have totally resolved the issue. Time for my twice/yearly visit from APlus A/C! Not only do they remind me when it's due, but they call when on their way, so I don't waste time waiting in a huge service window. Kyle arrived on time, & was wearing PPE, so I didn't have to ask, nor was I concerned with him being at my house. After finishing inside & outside on the compressor, he gave me a detailed written report, and fully explained the steps I could take to lengthen the life of my HVAC system. I have their annual A/C & Heat service plan at my house, at rental houses, and my office. More than once the tech has found something that would have cost a lot of money to fix if not addressed now. It's easy to lose track of time and forget when tune-ups are needed, so I'm glad they are on top of things! Now, I'm off to buy a new A/C filter.... Gulp! I've used companies like Radiant and when they mess up, they fix it and make it right. Wish they were available, but I was in a bind and all they did was make my situation worse. We had them "fix" our A/C back in the 90s when I lived in Round Rock and I have to say the owner is the absolute WORST person to do business with. Way oversold and had zero intention of keeping his promises. Installers for the new unit required after they broke my prior unit (less than 10 years old and exceptionally well maintained) were pleasant. My AC went out. They came out the next day to give me a quote. Although I didn't use them, both their customer service and the guy who came out were very nice and knowledgeable. The only issue was they are a Lennox dealer and I wanted Trane. He was very honest and said if you want Trane, then there are other dealers that can be better deals than they can. Each time I spoke to them. I don't know what stars aligned to get me this kinda deal, but I'll take it. While A+ has not been 100% perfect during the years I've worked with them on my previous system (let's say they've been 97% on target), that's surely close enough for my 5 star. : ) A+ lives up to their name. I have to say that this company does respond to your immediate needs especially when your A/C goes out. The staff is great and friendly. The service call at $94.00 is also reasonable but the parts are marked way up. Example: for the exact same product, name brand, built in the USA etc., I was charged $193.00 by A plus for the larger capacitor, and at the parts store its was $36.00 retail. For the smaller oval capacitor, I was charged $144.00 and the retail price for the EXACT same capacitor was $9.41. I think this overcharging for parts is a systemic problem in the heating and air conditioning world. FYI read more

Sometimes when you've been doing business with a company for over 30 years and you have to call them for some unexpected equipment problems you get a good feeling for calling in the experts. Today was that kind of day. Our home Air Conditioner was giving us some problems over the weekend and though we were able to get it back up and running we knew it needed a little more attention. (Cause and effect). We contacted the after hours number and left a message hoping to get in line to be serviced some time Monday morning. (Just in case). A few minutes before opening and we were contacted by a member of their professional office staff. They assured us that they would have a tech at our home in an hour. I explained that perhaps our call was now a lower priority and if there were more pressing ones perhaps they could be attended to first. I was assured they had plenty of available techs and they would be sending out one of their best. Shortly after nine as promised our tech Charles arrived and after explaining to him what we had encountered he quickly deduced that our system might have been a little low on freon but he would check it to be certain. He suggested that our 11 year old unit was out of warranty and that the coil make have a slow leak in it. He could charge the system back to full but there was a chance that the leak, if significant might require repair which could be costly. Whenever you find yourself in situations like this you always like options. Charles never attempted to upsell any repairs and understood not wanting to put a lot of money into an aging system. As a consumer that was truly appreciated. He went about charging the system and we went about hoping indeed that what we faced was a one off or at least a slow leak in the system. The A-Plus family, (and they are a family owned operation) have always treated us fairly like that for over 30 years of our AC Needs. It's why we keep going back to them. We had two units installed a few weeks ago. Inspection passed with no issues. Andie (I hope I spelled correctly) made it very easy to submit our rebates and she was awesome responding and acting to resolve any issues after the two units were installed. Owner (Gary) was very thorough in his recommendations. Now I hope our two units last longer than those we originally had - more efficient!! We have been with A-Plus for several years (since 2004) and continue to rely on this company for honest advice on A/C renewals, maintenance and quick response. I contacted A-Plus because it seemed like my AC wasn't performing as efficiently as in the past, and their reviews are good. They were helpful on the phone, talking through my issues and possible causes. We agreed to a service call for a general check up. The tech showed up on time and was friendly and helpful. He replaced my filter (a non-trivial Aprilaire filter), showed me how to do it myself next time, and checked the system inside and outside. He identified a few problems and gave me several options. In the end, I had him refill the coolant and address a few potential leak points. That was the cheaper option, and he said he would try that first before doing any more serious work. So far, so good. The invoice matched the estimate, service was friendly, no hard upsell, and no complaints. :) read more

Our home A/C was blowing warm for several weeks and on the first really hot day of the summer (a Sunday), I decided there must be something wrong. I went to home depot and bought one of those temperature meters that use a laser (about $30) and pointed it into the air vents. It was barely cooling. Called A+ Sunday evening and left name and number. I was heading out of town Tuesday for rest of week and wanted to be there when they came. At about 8:15 AM Monday morning I received a call from the A+ dispatcher. They had a tech at my home by 11:15. Tech knew what he was doing and reported that we had a very small Freon leak. After spending several hours trying to find the leak, he suggested we may not ever be able to find the leak which I believed. He recharged the unit and it was blowing very cold air within an hour. I appreciated that he weighed the cost of his time trying to continue to find a very tiny leak against the chances that we may easily make it another year or two before we need another recharge. Our bill was reasonable and someone called me two days after the call to check up on the system repair. I found A+ on Angie's list because I was deathly afraid of being ripped off by an A/C repair company. I was happy and will use them again if the need arises. read more

First time I've ever reviewed a place without even using their services. AC went out on a Monday night and my warranty coverage only utilized vendors who didn't work later hours. I started calling around to see if anyone did work after hours and A Plus was the first to return my call. They listened to my issue and weren't pushy at all. Ultimately I decided to suffer for an additional day so my warranty could cover the cost; however, A Plus followed up in the morning to confirm that someone was being sent. There were probably an additional 5 companies I called who haven't even returned my initial call yet. Wonderful customer service. Zero stars if I could! I paid for a maintenance plan, scheduled services, and the technician never showed. I called and I was told he had overslept and that he would be at my house shortly. 45 minutes later I call and they swear he's 2 minutes away. 10 minutes later I call and they tell me his GPS sent him the wrong way. 15 minutes after that I call and ask for another technician and if there are any other services already scheduled. They tell me they don't know and they'd have to look it up, and I tell them to forget it. 15 minutes later I call asking where the technician is and they tell me they've canceled the service call at my request. I ask for a refund and they tell me "We'll see". Their location is a 1/4 mile from my house. These people are clearly the worst. read more

We received a flier in the mail to have a season check up, and we took them up on their offer. The rep who came out was very courteous and prompt. Thankfully we had no major issues, just a small worn part which was reasonably priced. What I appreciated from the rep is that the part was optional and would help improve the longevity. I felt he was honest and we choose to replace the part anyway since he was already there and since our unit is old. We would call them again in the future. Other companies couldn't come out for a few days, but A-Plus was there within a couple of hours. They diagnosed my HVAC's problem (bad thermostat) easily, and for only $74, which was $34 less than a competing company charged to diagnose a different problem a few months ago. (Both took about the same amount of time.) It was so cheap I tried to give the tech a tip, but he refused. Austin Energy then came out and replaced the thermostat (I'm on their Energy Partner Program) and I was back up and running quickly. read more

I can't say enough good things about this company. We chose to update our heating and air systems in our home in 2016, and obtained proposals from 3 top-rated companies. Mr. Yamin came out, assessed our needs, and provided a bid that was over $2000 less than the other companies we spoke with. Job was completed promptly, on time, and within the proposal. Results have been remarkable-much better cooling during our incredibly hot summers and a major reduction in our electric costs from the City of Austin. They also helped us file paperwork with the Austin Energy to obtain available rebates. We chose to purchase an ongoing maintenance agreement for the systems. They come out 2x per year to inspect the systems and make sure everything is running at top efficiency. Most recently, their technician "Donald" came to perform the maintenance. Donald was on time and knowledgeable, finding a blockage in a drain line before it could cause any problems. I can't say enough good things about A Plus Heating and Air. read more

We initially chose A-Plus as our maintenance company and for several years they helped us maintain the last few years of a very old system. When the time came to finally replace it, we naturally chose A-Plus as our first quote. We got a visit from Greg who went through all of the options on paper - then gave us what he felt was his most practical recommendation based on our size and personal needs. I felt very good about not only his recommendations but the price was a fair price that A-Plus helped cut even further by getting me rebates both from our city and from Lennox. He honestly made me feel so good about our options we decided not to even get another quote. They would all be close anyway and service is everything to me. The install was literally the following week and even though it was delayed one extra day due to heavy rain, they started on time and finished same day. Professional and friendly, the lead installer spoke very little english but it did not dim his lack of confidence in doing an extremely clean installation, our furnace closet is magnificent. The new system is functioning perfectly. Its a Lennox Elite 16XC and its so quiet we thought for a second it wasn't working it. It was :) I also have to mention the back office, particularly Andee. There was not one minute I did not feel important with her on the phone. She has this fantastic attitude and took care of all the paperwork and appointments like it was nothing. I think she may be A-Plus' secret weapon. Anyhow - these people are all awesome and they really care about their customers. They are not upsellers and they are not out to just install a system and leave you hanging, they stay in it for the long haul with maintenance and fantastic service. It was time to replace the heat pumps in my rental duplex, which they installed in 1990, so I returned to them (as they treated me right in 1990). They treated me right again. Professional, and efficient, they arranged to work with my renters to minimize the churn. They processed all the tedious paperwork to get the rebates from both Lennox and the City of Austin.
