The business owner, Greg and his son Josh manage a staff of highly capable technicians who are available or on call 24/7, an important capability in Austin's hot summers. Gregg runs an honest and dependable business with prices that are reasonable and inline with industry standards. In recent years Gregg's son Josh, has developed a Home Solutions unit. He has developed a set of craft people who are able to handle almost any home repair, from kitchen cabinet repair to privacy fence replacement to outside house siding replacement, to inside remodeling. Josh has managed all of the above on my properties. He just completed a bath room floor structure repair to stop a slow leaking toilet. A qualified plumber reset the toilet and crafts people replaced the entire bathroom floor surface. The work was done efficiently and on time, leaving everything very clean. My sister has done business with A+ for air conditioning and heating for years and recommended them to me. For most of four years they kept my ailing elderly air conditioning system going, and this fall, when I could afford it, I had A+ install a new AC & heating system to replace my 19 year old system. I also recently used their electric service. Their charges have always been reasonable, and the issues and charges have been explained to me in detail. Called for service n paid $86 for diagnosis. No problem with that. Technician wanted to go against factory setup and install two single run capacitors instead in one (1) dual run... which is also fine. When they want to charge $325 for capacitor service, there's a problem. The technician was nice. However, we feel that $335 for a $10 capacitor is a scam n overpriced. The owner advised that it is what it is, and we advised that this review is what it is. Thanks A-Minus Energy. I lost $86 for diagnostic to them. I found another AC company that is fair and honest that charged me $200 I will give 5stars to that company for not taking advantage of people in this heat. read more

A+ installed my top of the line Lennox AC & Heating one year and 4 hours ago. We woke up this morning with our AC showing a communication error. Arturo arrived within an hour. He was extremely professional and patient with a frustrated customer. A couple of hours later everything is resolved, my AC is working and A+ covered it under warranty. I appreciate the repairs were done under warranty. I also appreciate Arturo educating me on what monthly maintenance is required to keep the drain lines clear and operating in good condition. This summer my air conditioner went out. It was blowing nothing but hot air and that is a serious emergency here in TX. So I go to look at my AC unit and see that it has a sticker on it from A-plus saying to give them "a call because your unit may be under warranty". I just bought my home about a year ago so I don't know what the previous owners had going and I figured it was worth giving them a call. I called they told me it was not covered but they could come by and find the problem. I called around to a few other AC companies in the area and these guys were available the earliest and since time was a factor i went with them. I was told it was likely a leak and there was a hourly cost to check. The rate was calculated by the half hour. I was wary of this, so I started a timer on my phone. I started when he started and ended it after i knew he had clearly stopped and gave him about an extra 10 minutes of grace. To make a long story short he did the search for 30 minutes, he charged me for almost double. I tried to air on the side of human error and let this issue slide. The main Issue was I needed to replace my air conditioner's coil. I talked to one of the managers and the job he quoted was expensive. I asked if they could do better on the price. He reluctantly moved the price an inch. I agreed on the job. He said he would get back to me. I took several days to hear back from him. In the meantime the upstairs in my house is reaching 95 degrees! Needless to say I didn't wait any longer and got another company on it. I told A-plus to forget it. The other AC co was responsive, came out quicker and were much less expensive. I seldom complain but A-plus in my book was a disappointment. I understand this is the busy season for them but their lack of communication was uncalled for. They gave me the impression that because I called them from the sticker and had agreed to have them come out once that they had me in the bag. Then after this was all said and done the manager emails me. He said sorry that I thought they too long and claimed that they had in fact gotten back to me days earlier..........Not true! He said they left messages on my phone and his worker spoke to me when I cancelled and claimed that I told her "I didn't check my messages, yet". Believe me when I say that if I'm going to sit here and write this detailed reviewed on this, then you know good and well that I was diligently waiting on any contact from them. I received none!! I don't know if he is being misinformed by his staff or it is him that is creating this fabrication, but I won't count on them again. Good luck to you if you do.. read more

I called the company for an emergency air conditioning repair during the summer. They were quick to arrive, but that is the only good that came from it. 1) Because it was an emergency they charged 4 times more than other AC companies would have. $286.00 for a dual capacitor repair 2) They repaired it for the night, but a week later it broke down with the exact same problem. 3) When I called the company to come back...They stated it would cost me another $85 for a return service. Which I would not pay for. 4) I called another AC company for emergency, and they charged $75.00 total to replace the dual capacitor. 5) The other AC company reviewed the part that A-Plus put in and said that it was completely the wrong part. Since another AC company has fixed the repair I have not had any problems since (3 months of hot weather). I will never recommend this company to anyone, they will not provide any Warranty for a repair that they do. Even within the same week of replacing the hardware. In response to the business: Sorry but there is nothing but lies from these guys. They never tried to repair 2 items or even told me. Sorry BBB is worthless anymore, they get paid by businesses to stay in business. Only real info comes from review like help and Google. read more

I have windows that are leaking and was referred to A-Plus by a neighbor. I spoke to a nice lady named Debbie who set up an appointment for an estimate. She even called back later in the week to confirm. But when the time for the appointment passed and no one showed up, I called the company. They said someone or the estimator would call right back. Being loyal customers of this local HVAC company for around 15 years we seldom had any reason to complain until recently. After two service calls and several hundred dollars of wasted money on back-to-back AC unit calls, followed by a dismissive response to our complaint over the total ineffectiveness of the 'repairs', we are sadly forced to cease our business with this company. One of our home AC units is currently on the fritz, not cooling its designated area below about 75-degrees on average (hotter in the afternoon). Our units are typically capable of cooling any designated area to under 65-degrees, if one wishes, and therefore this reduction in performance was both notable and unacceptable. Upon calling for service we promptly received one of their employees within a few hours, despite it being a Friday evening; prompt service response has always been one of A-plus' great strengths. The technician proceeded to repair the unit, which according to him required hosing down an offending piece of the AC unit with water. For both the response and 'maintenance' cost we paid a little under $200; despite the fact that there seemed to be little change in the AC performance we were told that the problem was fixed and the unit would be responsive shortly. By the next day there was no discernible change, and we had to again call for the same employee, who performed additional 'observations' on the unit and who told us the lack of cooling was due to a dirtied filter (this despite the fact that I could observe air freely moving through the filter's grate, dirty or not). While he was there we replaced the filter, paying additional service costs to him, and he told us the unit should be responsive and cooling, now. Hours later, with no change in performance in sight, we called the A-plus offices and spoke to Greg, who informed us that "AC units typically do not cool an area below 75 to 74 degrees" (this despite the fact that our other units, as of writing this post, are cooling the house into the mid-60s, for testing purposes). Greg dismissed our complaints and insisted that the only available fix for us now was to purchase a new unit (and even then: AC units "typically do not cool an area below 75 to 74 degrees"). No discounting or refunding of the several hundreds of dollars we'd already spent for our 'fixes' were forthcoming. Having now spent hundreds of dollars on two service calls to fix our AC, and with no discernible results evident, and having called their offices, only to be nonsensically told that our AC unit was effectively "always" in such a state to begin with, we are left in a saddened state of shock, and with little recourse other than to find another HVAC company with which to do business. There was a time not too long ago I would heartily recommend A-plus for any residential HVAC job, but after this expensive, fruitless and nonsensical endeavor with their offices I must sadly recommend strongly against using their business. read more

I learned of A Plus from a great deal on Angie's list, $139 for 4 hours of handywork...how can you beat that!? The handyman was really nice, installed 3 ceilings fans, 2 light fixtures and 2 sets of blinds in that 4 hour time frame. They also came the next day from when I called and were on time. We bought an Angie's Deal for $239.00 for 8 hours of landscaping work. We had 3 Holly Shrubs to be taken out in the front flower bed and replace with new shrubs that we furnished. A-Plus sent out a guy in a car that doesn't bring a shovel (this is landscaping right?). It took him 8.5 hours to remove the shrubs, after we bought a shovel for him, planted the new ones and left the dirt that he had dug out of the flower bed in the yard, with the brick border laying in the yard that he removed. He left not saying anything. Didn't ask if we wanted him to come back and finish. NOTHING! Now I've been told by the manager that he told us it would take more than 8 hours. He never said that to us. We would have made arrangements which we have paid for extra time for other professional services as it was needed. The manager of A-Plus said there are two sides of the story to every situation. Sounds like to me that they are not interested in making the customer happy, just accusing them of lying, taking this employee's word over the customer. They have offered to pay us back 1/4 of the cost and for the shovel. I am not interested in making a deal so they can remove bad reviews. NOT a happy customer. read more

We recently moved into a new house, and had a long to-do list that neither my husband nor myself felt up to achieving. I had a look on Angie's List, and A-Plus had great reviews and a coupon, so I called them up and booked a handyman for four hours of work. They sent Kevin and he knocked that list out with ease. He installed two fans on our high ceilings, hung a mirror; a towel rack; three paintings in difficult and hard to reach places, put up curtain rods in the bedroom and even offered to help us move some boxes around when he was done. Ugh... we have been dealing with their BS for over a month now! No one wants to own up to "their" mistakes. Argued with my husband over a $ .50 (cents) piece of weather stripping for our front door! If you can see Light coming through pretty sure air is coming through and it wont pass the City's inspection! Had to come back and spray more insulation as there was only 3 inches over our bedroom and per city requirements its supposed to be 12-16inches! HELLO!! You know the city is coming out to Inspect your work! Do it right the first time and get the hell out of our House! When they did come back to do what the city inspector Told them had to be done to pass, they knocked a pipe off under our sink- because they didnt caulk around it the first time. Then stepped through our sheet rock in the garage! OH but NO that wasnt them, and they aren't owning up to their shady work! Luckily we just rent, otherwise they would've had a much bigger problem to deal with! I dont know Why the landlord went with these people? I was hoping for FOX service. The Landlord is Fed Up with their excuses and is now having to fix the issues himself! The guy from A+ even argued with the City Inspector about their "work". Dumb! One of my wife's friends recommended this company because our 22 year old house ac was out. This was a very big investment for our home and I really wanted a professional company to take care of the install. I had the worst customer experience with this company! I know it could be unfair to judge a company just by one technician's service. But I told A+ I was not happy with their technician, and their response was like they do not really care if I am happy or not. If I do not want to use their service, it is fine for them. I never seen such an arrogant service company... Here is what happened: I found my house A/C cannot cool below 80 degree. When the A+ technician came, he only used 15 minutes for inspection and diagnostics. Note that I paid $76 for the 15-minute inspection and diagnostics. The technician told me that my A/C was low on refrigerant and had some leakage issue, he can add the refrigerant but would not be able to test the refrigerant leakage, as the device happened to run out of battery (sign of bad management in this company) . He said he would ask the office to call me later to schedule a separate appointment for leakage test. Needless to say, they never called me. Three weeks later, I called them, wanting to schedule an appointment for leakage test, and found they wanted to charge me extra money （around $50）just for returning service call!!! I argued it was not fair to me as the device went out of battery that day, not my fault. The person on the call (David) started to blame me that the technician said he waited at least 15 minutes for me to finish my call before he started any inspection on that day, and they were really busy, they cannot accept that I wasted their time! I told David that the technician was lying to him, as I was on the phone for only 5 minutes and even during the call, I pointed him to the indoor A/C unit so that he could start the inspection work. He only spent 15 mins in the inspection. I told David that my house has the RING video door bell system, and I can show him the video proof that the technician only stayed in my house for 20 mins for all of his work. But David did not believe me. He even did not say one word of sorry. So even if later on they waived the returning service call for me, I rejected their service. How can I trust a company whose manager would start with blaming clients for wasting their time and blindly defending their staff? One month later, my A/C stopped working again. I hired another company, and now I know what a good customer service is. Compared to A+, this company really cares about clients! They spent almost one hour for the complete inspection. And after they fixed the A/C problem, they checked every A/C vent to make sure that every vent is blowing cool air. I remember after the A+ technician added the refrigerant, he only checked a couple of vents in the kitchen and he is done. I believe A+ might have good technicians too! But I would stay away from this company forever!! read more

I wanted to go out of my way to leave a positive 5 star review for A+ Heating and Air. I had a terrible week. We just moved into our condo from an apartment building downtown and we're first time homeowners and upon moving in last Saturday discovered that our downstairs AC wasn't cooling. Its supposed to cool both offices (my husband and I work from home) the living and dining area and the kitchen. We called Stan's Heating and Air on Sunday and paid their tech to come out and take a look at our system and they told us we had a kink in our line and that we would need to replace the line. Well that was going to be a very expensive repair as we would have had to pay for the AC work in addition to contracting out painters and contractors to repair the exterior wall of the condo and the HOA wasn't going to pay for that. We were thinking it was going to cost us upwards of $6K for that whole thing and as you can imagine were very upset. Especially since we just closed on the condo and everything appeared to pass inspection back in March. Well, after giving me a quote Stan's called me back and told me that because the attic was on the 3rd floor they couldn't do the work. At this point we'd been without AC for 4 days and I was completely desperate. When I was at my wit's end and on the verge of a breakdown I happened to see an A+ van pull into the parking lot of the condo and ran over to the technician to tell him what I was going through and pleaded with him to please come look at our AC. We called the office and David scheduled the service call so that Donald could come take a look at our unit after he finished up the job he was on. Donald came and looked at it and found out that it was missing a metering device that should have been part of the original installation of the unit in 2017. Needless to say, this should have been caught in our inspection but I appreciate Donald taking the time out at the end of his day to fit us in and then David having Angel (another tech) come take care of it the very next afternoon. WE NOW HAVE COLD AIR AND THIS COMPLETELY FIXED THE PROBLEM! I feel like A+ is extremely honest and reasonable and they didn't try to rip us off or sell us something we didn't need and I really appreciate how courteous David was in communicating with me when Angel would be arriving and giving me status updates throughout the day. FIVE STARS! If you have heating or AC problems call A+! I'm even planning on having them do some handyman services for us in the near future.
