This is my first Yelp review. I've resisted because I didn't want one more company selling my preferences to "partners," but this was a special occasion. While I was trying to boot, my Dell displayed "Preparing automatic repair" and hung up with a blank screen. After a couple of restarts and googling on my phone, I tried the four solutions I could find but nothing worked. The issue was pretty exotic: VeraCrypt, an application I used to keep my drive encrypted, was conflicting with Windows 10, maybe the result of a Windows update, but for those of us who don't work at Microsoft, who knows. There's a long story about bootloaders and a pre-bootloader and decryption, but the short version is, this was a HARD problem. Shawn had to find a way to get around an encryption tool that was designed to prevent anyone from doing just that. Over a week, he stuck with it when I'm sure other shops would have thrown up their hands and said the dreaded words, "flatten and reload." At the end of the week, Shawn had decrypted my machine and it was booting normally with no data loss or need to reinstall anything. I was charged for 2.5 hours of labor. I've taken my computers to APlus for well over a decade, and this is why. They should be at the top of the Yelp rankings. read more

Darren is a superstar. He was so helpful with transferring my data to another computer, explaining things in detail about the upgrade for the hard drive, and very patient in making sure I was satisfied with how my new computer ran. BUT IN ADDITION, he even went as far as to painstakingly remove my beloved stickers with a heat tool and apply a new adhesive backing to each one individually to stick to my new computer. Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty! I mean they call this a computer tech store, but Darren is not only a technician, but an artist and a craftsman as well, and a really genuine, caring person. The only thing to be aware of if you're in a hurry is that when I first brought my (waterlogged) computer in to get checked out, it took longer than they said it would for them to do an assessment on the damage, and I had to call back a few of times to encourage them expedite the process. I think this was because they were really busy/backed up and overwhelmed with business, at least at the time I brought my computer in. But when all was said and done, they did a really great job on everything and Darren saved the day with the stickers, so I still give them 5 stars! read more

My husband found this little shop a few years ago - they've done a couple repairs for us and we've been happy with each one. They even told me, when I was having problems with my Samsung charging, that the cord I had was an aftermarket (I can only guess that I was given a different one when I took it to another repair facility that is usually in a big blue building) so I was able to order one online and that really helped. Only it started having charging issues again (these started, after replacing the cord, when I sent it to Samsung for some damage due to wear and tear) and we took it in today and the young man tested the cord and the receiver end and found the problem there. He took off the cover and found that one of the sauters was not holding and took it in back and resautered the bit for us - no charge! It wasn't a lot of his time (maybe 15 minutes) - but it was HUGE for me because the lack of charging was driving me crazy!! ;) I highly recommend A Plus to anyone and everyone that needs computer work. They're fast, efficient, very reasonably priced (on the stuff that they do charge for) and they are really happy to make their clients happy!! read more

My wife and I (ages 67 and 70) have relied upon A-Plus Computer Tech to fix our computer problems for the past five years. They are very friendly and helpful to us as "seniors" by explaining the issues that have arisen and recommending fixes. Their prices for services are very reasonable --- much less than Microsoft's store in Bellevue Square. They also are very responsive -- very quick turnaround time. Yesterday we took my wife's father's laptop (he is 96 years old) into A-Plus to ask them to clean up junk that has been downloaded from websites that he has visited over the past year or so, to set up his home screen with "large" icons that he can see, and to install software programs to block unwanted advertising. The tech at A-Plus quickly scanned the laptop to diagnose the problems, explained the problems to us, and fixed all issues -- including installing large icons on the desktop and removing icons that are seldom used to "clean up" the desktop. Bottom line: These guys are great. I highly recommend them. read more

I had a fabulous experience with my service on my Toshiba laptop. My 12-month old yanked the cord from my computer and broke the already loose power jack. I took my laptop in on a Friday and Alan called that evening saying it could be ready the next day for me. I opted to wait until the following week because Alan also ordered me a new AC power adapter as mine was cracked and I wanted to wait for it to arrive as well. I live in Mukilteo and Bellevue is a trek with a toddler in the car, but it is well-worth the trip. The customer service was great as was the estimate and communication about my laptop's status. Alan even recommended two parks in the area where I could take my daughter to play before making the 25-30 minute trip home. It was expensive for my service about $180 including the price of the new adapter but computers ARE an expensive luxury like cars. Plus, it is cheaper than a new laptop. I give them my highest recommendation and wouldn't hesitate for a second to bring future computer problems to them. read more

I'm an IT guy, although my focus is entirely on networking and has been for the last decade. However, I still have a number of computers laying around for various things. I personally no longer have the patience to troubleshoot and wrench on computers anymore. I have better things to do with my time. This is where A Plus computers comes in...I've brought three different computers to them over the last year and the service has been exceptional and fast. Each time the technicians have found the problem I was having and got it solved. It's been well worth the money spent for me to not have to deal with the problem(s) and use my time more suitably to other pursuits. Bottom line, these guys save me time and money and I find them invaluable when I need them. I'll continue to use them when I need to troubleshoot or get some new hardware installed. Wrong Diagnostic Safe your time and find somewhere else guys, my pc was unable to boot into the system so I bring it here, then they said because it's a custom pc they need to charge me 50 USD, I said that's fine as long as you can give me the diagnostic. They called me a few hours later and told me my motherboard was failed, I asked how so? They said well it's short, and they suggest replacing my motherboard with them. I decided to take the pc back home and replace it through warranty, but guess WHAT!!! The motherboard is fine!! The CPU is where the problem is!!!! When I switched my CPU (3700x) to my old one (2600) and it boots up!!!!! I should've done it before I even go this place!!! Anyway, those guys can't even tell if the problem was the CPU or the motherboard, I will save some of your money and go somewhere else!!! read more

The first time we called these guys was a Saturday Morning after our router connection was broken by a Comcast upgrade. One of their technicians came out after work and fixed it for us. And he showed us how to to turn on the Ad Blocker on our Chrome browser and helped with several other computer things. Then our router died and a guy came out the same day and installed an newer, faster one. I also had them upgrade my Desktop machine from Windows Vista to Windows 7. They installed a Solid State Drive and my machine now runs incredibly fast. And i recently found that a scanner driver had been "lost" by the upgrade and called them and they send me the link I needed to update my driver. These guys are really responsive and I'll use them first, every time. read more

I came with my laptop to fix the start button which was loose. It was the only computer repair store open Sunday morning which I appreciated. The employee seemed knowledgeable and accommodated my need for quick turnaround. He did the job affordably. All was well, until I had an SSD drive put in at another store and was informed the back plate which this employee removed to fix the start button was missing. I'm not sure what he did with it, but he did not put it back in after unscrewing it. It did not effect the laptop yet, but there's no reason for not putting the back plate back in. I give 4 stars because the employee was knowledgable and they were open at a time no other store was, and maybe what happened was simply a mistake. read more

I had been less than thrilled with the last experience I had with another company so I thought I'd give them a try. I am so glad I did. It was like magic! Alan Parsons pulled off the best hat-trick that I witnessed in recent years!! I was stuck with a printer problem, unable to convert scanned copies into an editable format. With sheer ingenuity and patience, Alan resolved the nagging problem with my printer. First, he identified the problem, took control of my PC momentarily and resolved the issue within minutes. Before talking with Alan, I consulted several other "experts" who agreed to look into the issue; which meant I had to take my PC over to their store and keep feeding the meter. My daughter dropped her white iPad and shattered the entire screen! It was Thursday afternoon 02:30 and I called A Plus Computer Tech about the problem and the fact that we needed to leave town the next morning. They gave the correct estimate right away and offered to try and fix it that same afternoon, even if it meant working after hours. We brought it in at 3 PM, they had the (white) screen in stock!, and we could pick it up at 7 PM. We had a Lenovo laptop that would not boot and brought it in for diagnosis and possible repair. Alan patiently and knowledgeably answered my questions and indicated ~3 days for diagnosis. As promised, three days later I received a call indicating that the hard disk had failed (expected answer) and was given a quote for a new SSD, installation of Windows, updated drivers and restoration of data to the extent possible. The staff at the Bellevue store is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They have always courteously assisted me on any number of computer problems that a right brained, non-techie like me runs into. I have had very poor luck with all of the other computer repair stores in the Bellevue-Redmond area and Computer Tech in Bellevue is head and shoulders above the competition.....And their rates are very fair and equitable. They somehow mange to not talk "over your head" while at the same time not "talking 'down' to you". Their policy of a free diagnostic of your computer equipment is great.
