Janet from Critter Sitters really saved us!…read more If I had imagined the perfect kitty sitter, Janet Green of Critter Sitters surpassed it. She was everything I hoped for in a sitter and more, going above and beyond my most hopeful expectations. She was responsive, dependable, friendly, knowledgeable, flexible and all around wonderful. I can't begin to express what a relief it was to have Janet watching our cats when everything else seemed in chaos. My husband and I were trying to navigate a trip to help my elderly mom after knee replacement surgery (the day before elective surgeries were halted due to COVID-19) and had the trip extended unexpectedly when we realized she needed way more recovery time. When I had to change our first meet and greet due to my flight getting canceled five times (due to the pandemic) she was understanding and accommodating. When I finally got back (for just one day before returning to my mom) Janet listened attentively when I introduced her to our three kitties and when I showed her the medications for our elderly cat, asking great questions. When we were gone she visited our kitties twice a day, every day. She sent the most adorable pictures after every visit so we knew our cats were being looked after, along with detailed text updates and even occasional videos of them playing. Her messages were a ray of sunshine in what was otherwise chaos. If all that weren't enough, she found a better way to give our 19 year old IBD cat his twice daily medication AND she gave him his subcutaneous fluids. Having Janet as our guardian kitty angel was like having an old trusted family friend looking after our cats.

We used Critter Sitters for many years, through multiple pet sitters, multiple pets, and multiple…read morehomes and always found them to be professional, reasonably priced, and attentive to the needs of our pets. Recently our pet sitter through Critter Sitters retired and we met with our new sitter one time. Everything seemed fine and we were scheduled to go out of town and had confirmed with the new sitter employed by Critter Sitters that everything was in order. Yesterday I asked for clarification about the billing since it seemed substantially higher with the new sitter over what we had paid previously - in response, I have been told that the sitter's schedule has changed and that I should seek care for my animals elsewhere. With little more than a week's notice, this was very unprofessional and disappointing to say the least. I've tried to communicate my experience to the owner of the company but the line has been busy for some time; will update this review if new information becomes available but sadly, I can no longer recommend this business and would seek care for pets elsewhere. Update: the owner responded and while appreciated, I find the way this situation was handled by Critter Sitters very unprofessional. I can include the text conversation for reference as I did not negotiate: I asked a question about a price difference between two different sitters employed by the same company, a difference of over 300 dollars. The only "policy" I see enforced or followed here is poor customer service.

I was very hesitant of using Barking Up the Right Tree at first…read more After having 2 pet sitters quit on me because of my overly aggressive cat, I didn't have much confidence that this would go any different. However, my sitter - Andrea - is phenomenal and probably one of the first people ever that my diabetic cat lets near her. I am very happy that I have found her. I do find that they are a bit pricey. $2 for every additional cat seems a bit much, considering that the process would be the same, especially when you already are paying extra for medication administration. But I guess that when you have a good pet sitter, it's worth the extra money.

OUR EXPERIENCE WITH BURT WAS A NIGHTMARE. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM AND WOULD NOT HIRE THEM AGAIN…read more We hired Barking Up the Right Tree (BURT) for the first time as part of a five-day, five-night pet-sitting engagement for our two dogs, agreeing to five walks and five overnight stays with a female sitter (our dogs tend to prefer women) and a military discount. During this time, we experienced three issues, all of which we brought to their attention (vs. of the other way around): 1. The first pet sitter brought her fiancé along without our knowledge or permission, which we caught on our doorbell. The excuse was that he was experiencing "a distressing personal situation." This is not only extremely unprofessional; it's a liability. We let it go and asked that it not happen again. 2. The second pet sitter, who was booked for an overnight stay, left at 9:45 PM to spend the night at her own home. At first, we thought she went to get dinner, but after two hours, we contacted the owners again. They confirmed she went home because she interpreted my offer "to stay in our guest room if she wanted" meant she did not actually have to stay overnight, despite the fact we paid for an overnight stay. They sent her back and took one night off our bill. At this point, I started wondering if I needed to fly home; this was not going well. 3. A couple of days later, we returned home only to find that the first pet sitter had burned the interior of our built-in microwave and melted the interior door panel by heating up metal dog bowls in it, twice. She could have caught our kitchen on fire. When contacted, the owners confirmed she did it but claimed she didn't know you can't microwave metal or where alternate bowls were located. I would assume this is common sense, but you'd think you'd stop the microwave after it started sparking the first time. I also sent her a photo of my instruction letter where I had explicitly mentioned where the other bowls were. Despite our open communication throughout this experience, their manager blamed us for the sitters' errors and made both excuses (e.g., "they're not our employees; they're independent contractors") and sarcastic comments ("we don't put trackers on them"). She informed us that our "old" microwave was worth $100 "if that." It's a built-in, name-brand appliance with a replacement cost almost three times that. After everything, she also decided it was a good time to ask for proof of my husband's military service, questioning his integrity. When you trust someone with both your pets and your home, you might expect them to treat you a little better.
