We were greeted by a young man who opened the door for us. Inside was a good number of folks for 4pm on a weekday. Not overcrowded but enough for friendly ambiance. Once my husband & I made decisions, our order was taken at the counter. Bill had a peach cobbler latte with notes of peach and caramel. I had a fruity drink with flavors of pineapple and coconut. Both were wonderful. We tried the sweets as well. I had a lemon bar. Bill had New York cheesecake. We found some comfy chairs and waited for our orders. We didn't have to wait long. Kind and friendly staff, quick service, and some of the best coffee I've had recently. Coffee was smooth and rich, not burnt or bitter. Coffee and muffin were a little on the pricier end of what I've seen locally, but not bad. They also have abundant indoor seating, and I could see this being somewhere to sit and read, work, or study. read more

Stopped in this afternoon for a quick pick-me-up and A Special Blend did not disappoint! I ordered the Iced Mocha with oat milk and a blueberry muffin. The coffee was delicious- super smooth, not burnt. It was perfectly creamy and flavored well. One downside was there only being one size for iced drinks. It was so good I would've loved a larger option! The blueberry muffin I got warmed and this was definitely the move. It was sweet, warm, soft, and filled with berries. Definitely want another next time! The service was also a hit! My order was taken almost immediately upon entering and I had all items in hand within 5 minutes! It was pretty empty inside, only a few other customers, but there seemed to be plenty of seating even if it were packed inside. Cozy little spot in downtown High Point with some of the happiest people! Stop by for a drink and snack and watch your heart fill! My order was taken quickly and made to order perfectly! I was even offered a piece of cake because they recently celebrated their birthday! My iced coffee was awesome and the decorated cookie was yummy! Met a girlfriend for coffee today and I knew exactly where I wanted to go! My friend opted for the Sweet & Spice coffee, a delicious seasonal feature! I never grow tired of a London Fog and this one was super tasty. It was hard to resist the wide variety of baked goods but I had just had breakfast and could not eat another thing. I was able to pick up some locally made dog treats, by The ARC, for the neighbors dog though and an adorable handmade sweater ornament for my tree, made by Azerbaijani Socks. Emilia makes the most adorable little treasures!! Service was super attentive and friendly. There is plenty of room to relax with a group here and the vibe is cozy and peaceful. Their goal "is to empower individuals and promote a more inclusive society for all." Their mission "is to enhance and improve the quality of life for adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities by providing meaningful employment and skills training within an interactive community." Tasty food and drinks, cozy space, and kind service. During my first ever visit, I was greeted at the door by a staff member and the staff/managers were extremely helpful. I got the delish apple crisp drink and also the spinach pastry. The pastry was flakey and totally hit the spot! I was impressed by the size of the space. There was a room that can be rented by the hour for meetings. Their conference room has a discounted rate for non-profits, which is really cool. There was also a poster hanging advertising the opportunity for to volunteer with the coffee house as a manager/trainer. I just love that this coffee shop provides an opportunity for a population that is often systematically excluded from the job market to get specialized job training and mentorship. In addition to being a cozy coffee shop with lots of laptop loitering space (#1 thing I look for in a new haunt), there was a shop in the corner of the store. The shop had thermoses, local goods, and coffee. I chose a bag of whole bean coffee and the staff graciously agreed to grind the beans for me. They asked me what kind of coffee maker I have so that they could get it for right. I appreciate the attention to detail. I originally came here for a Yelp event and am so glad I discovered the place. I'm looking forward to stopping by the next time I'm in High Point! read more

It makes me so happy that we have a local non profit coffee shop like this in the High Point area. The location is not to far from work so that makes it super convenient for me. It was my first time here and I got their white chocolate iced coffee which was so yummy. They have a good amount of options to choose from on their menu. Everyone there is so sweet. The cashier even handed me a card that thanked me for being a kind customer. If you haven't experienced the amazing place that is A Special Blend, you need to put your Starbucks down and make your way there ASAP! We arrived at 7:00a, and the staff was eagerly awaiting to welcome us. The place is so bright and inviting and the drinks we ordered were delicious, but the highlight of this coffee shop is the incredible staff who work hard to make sure you leave smiling. They have so many options on the menu that you will have a difficult not finding something you like! It's very easy to get to this shop and they have a great parking area. My daughter said this smoothie was the best smoothie she has ever had, and that is coming from a Juice Shop junkie!!! I visited the original location of A Special Blend with some frequency when I lived in Greensboro, so I was glad to see the High Point location open its doors. The mission - providing jobs and training to adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities - remains the same, and as with the Greensboro location, this shop has plenty else going for it. It's a bright, clean space with plenty of seating, and the staff are kind and welcoming. The menu boasts some fun seasonal flavors (as well as regular coffees and baked goods). I opted for an Apple Muffin Latte (apple, cinnamon, and brown sugar flavors), and it provided a tasty afternoon pick-me-up. A Special Blend's drinks tend to run sweet, and this one was no exception. While that suits my preferences well, those with a greater sensitivity to sweetness should brace themselves. Pricing is in line with what you'd find nearby. The idea of a coffee shop as a community-oriented "third place" away from home and work may seem quaint, but here, thanks to a comfortable environment and caring people, it has the potential to ring true. read more

I was finally able to stop in at the new High Point location for A Special Blend. The staff here are just as wonderful as they are in Greensboro and they gave great service. My coffee was nice and hot. I ordered the Americano and they left enough room for cream, which I appreciate. They also offered to heat up my pastry, which went very well with my coffee. I visited the High Point location after recently finding the Greensboro location last month, and had a great experience. I was looking for a relaxing coffee shop with some baked goods to spend a few hours working outside of my home on a weekend. A Special Blend provided exactly what I was looking for! Clean, comfy, cozy, with free Wi-Fi. I wasn't aware of the unique mission of this organization but love it! Having worked in the nonprofit industry for several years, I love everything about what A Special Blend is doing. The manager (Sherri?) was also very patient and sweet to the employees (and customers). Some other FYIs - Lot parking is available right beside it - Be patient, clear, and kind. The employees are very sweet, and it's helpful for everyone to repeat your order to make sure they got it all. - Listen up for the "card" they give you so you know when your order is ready. I've been the person and have witnessed the people who have accidentally ignored them not realizing what they were calling out. As someone who doesn't drink coffee or tea, I love a coffee shop that offers baked goods and smoothies so I can still appreciate the vibes. I got a delicious strawberry smoothie. I also ordered a few baked goods (cinnamon sweet bread, honey butter cruffin, and lemon cruffin) to take home, and they were tasty! It took over 30 minutes to get one iced latte. They're busy due to parade, but the service is extremely slow. Five employees and a manager back there. One employee keeps walking around everywhere else and took the order of someone behind me, because he knew them (asked them what they wanted and said he'd go ahead and make their order). The manager made 0 drinks - she just kept reviewing to see where orders were without helping at all, besides grabbing food items occasionally. read more
