We had a spontaneous dinner with a large group and A Sushi and Grill turned out to be the perfect place to accommodate everyone's preferences. Since we arrived after 3 PM, we had to choose between the sushi or sashimi menu. The sushi selection and limited carpaccio offerings were more than enough to satisfy our seafood cravings. However, there was only one iPad shared among our group of 10, with a maximum of 50 items allowed per round. Each round reopened after a 5 minute cooldown, regardless if the cap had been reached. If your group is not especially close or aware of everyone's likes and dislikes, this setup could make for an awkward dining experience. The iPad also crashed a couple of times, particularly when we were nearing the 50 item limit. Even without a celebration, there was an option to have one round of dishes presented on a themed display. I saw many nearby tables happily eating off sushi boats and decorative platforms. Since our party was on the larger side, we were also invited to spin a wheel and ended up winning a $25 gift card toward our next visit. Certain items had to be ordered directly through the server, including miso soup and ice cream. Be prepared for a slower pace, as dishes often took 20-30 minutes to arrive between rounds. Still, everything came out neatly plated and freshly prepared. One issue was that the iPad lacked a clear indicator showing which items had already arrived, which would have been especially helpful for larger groups trying to keep track of shared plates. *Spicy Garlic Edamame: subtly spicy but intensely garlicky. I loved how every pod was coated in chunks of garlic. Easily the group's favorite appetizer. *Yam Tempura: hot and crispy with thinly sliced yam that was cooked through perfectly. The batter was light and delicate rather than overly heavy. *Baked Mussels: generously stuffed with kani, though I wish the portion had been smaller so the mussel itself could stand out more. The mayo mixture was not evenly incorporated, leaving parts of the filling slightly dry and underseasoned. *Salmon Carpaccio: the rose centerpiece was sliced thicker than the surrounding pieces. I appreciated how the marinade leaned toward a bright, citrusy orange glaze instead of the usual ponzu heavy preparation. A lighter and fresher rendition overall. *Tuna And Yellowtail Carpaccio: both shared a similar ponzu and jalapeño profile. The fish was tender and sliced well. Our group generally preferred the texture and seasoning of these over the salmon version. *Garden Salad: a mix of cabbage and tomatoes with sesame dressing. The vegetables were crisp and fresh, though the dressing itself felt fairly uninspired. I would only order this again alongside heavier fried dishes. *Grilled Chicken: hot, tender teriyaki chicken with a pleasant smokiness throughout. *Grilled Beef Rib: a surprisingly massive portion of tender beef glazed in a teriyaki style sauce. Many at the table raved about how close it was to falling off the bone. *BBQ Galbi: comparable to what you would find at Korean barbecue restaurants. The short ribs were tender, fatty, and deeply marinated. *Yakisoba: served steaming hot with softer noodles. The portion was modest but included beef, chicken, and shrimp. Everything was sautéed nicely and the proteins remained tender. *Salmon Nigiri: fairly average in quality, though still our preferred salmon preparation of the evening. The first batch of pieces leaned quite thin, but the rice itself was excellent with a noticeable vinegar tang. *Caramelized Salmon Nigiri: definitely choose this over the plain seared version. The topping of Japanese mayo added a smoky sweetness that complemented the salmon much better. *Tuna Nigiri: above average thanks to the tuna's soft texture and clean flavor. It was leaner in cut, though I wished there were more creative tuna variations available. *Yellowtail Nigiri: fattier but noticeably fishier. I strongly preferred the carpaccio preparation and would likely skip the nigiri next time. *Eel Nigiri: the unexpected favorite of the night. The eel was cooked perfectly and evenly coated in a sweet glaze. We did not encounter any bones, and nearly everyone asked for another round. *Squid Nigiri: heavily scored, giving it a satisfyingly chewy texture. The flavor itself was fairly mild, though I wish it came with some type of sauce. *Spicy Scallops: the seaweed wrapper remained crisp while the scallops had a pleasant bounce. The sauce leaned heavily into Sriracha mayo. The seafood to rice ratio was surprisingly generous. *Green Tea Ice Cream: the standard bulk version commonly served at Japanese restaurants. Depending on your palate, it may come across soapy. Overall, the variety and execution impressed the entire group. The biggest drawbacks were the slower turnaround times and the awkward ordering system for large parties. Still, the presentation, atmosphere, and attentive service made this feel especially well suited for dates or celebrations.

I'm a total sucker for all-you-can-eat sushi, and thankfully my family is too. With a fair price and a huge menu, A Sushi is our go-to anytime we need a soy sauce fix. Even though it's busy almost every time we visit, the service is always attentive and quick, and somehow they always find a seat for us. One of my favorites is the Salmon Citrus roll with lemon. It's zippy, tangy, and super fresh. I'm also a big fan of their crab rangoon, which hits that perfect crispy, creamy balance. The highlight for the kids (and honestly for me too) is when they bring out the festive sushi boat with dry ice flowing around it. It feels like a whole production. And if you go for a birthday, get ready... they sing a hilariously adorable song while banging a drum. It's equal parts embarrassing and wonderful. My only small critique is the TVs all around the restaurant playing TBS and sports. It's not really the vibe I'm going for with sushi, but it definitely doesn't stop us from coming back.

I've been here about 6 times since they open and my previous experiences were good with friends & family. However, I hope these guys aren't getting super comfortable, as on this last trip of mine, there seems to be a decline in terms of the quality of food & service. The initial presentation of sushi to the table was still spot on, but I looked at my Sushi Boat, and most of the order was wrong. I do feel as though the service needs to engage with everyone a little bit more frequently throughout the experience. I struggled a bit to get clarification on my orders, refills of water, and the status of my round of items ordered. The non-sushi items from the kitchen were good, but they took much longer than usual, and when I got my soup, it was just "lukewarm". The price point continues to change, and I'm okay with that, but I do hope the level of customer service improves with it for everyone's experience. My star reviews are going in the wrong direction so please put more emphasis on the customer.

Honestly coming from the East Coast, I wasn't too sure about the AYCE out here but this place was pretty good! They had a bunch of veggie options and my sister said the sushi was good. The waiting staff was very friendly and the restaurant seemed clean. You can even order a presentation for your sushi rolls which make it a little more fun. Even if you're not a sushi eater, they did a good selection of dishes from the kitchen and appetizers.

Came with a huge party for lunch which was not much of a wait if at all. I was really excited to try this spot because who can turn down anime figurines and sushi boats and it definitely delivered. The fish was fresh and ratio was fine. The only complaint that kept it from being 5 stars for me would be a lot of our orders being forgotten. Otherwise this was a solid spot for AYCE sushi! Lots of grill options too!

Great menu options and good service. The decorations are nice as well. There's a cool anime figure collection at the entrance and Japanese-inspired paintings all throughout the restaurant. If you order enough rolls, they'll even bring them out in a cool bowl!

The beef short rib, salmon skin and eel hand rolls were so good! That marinated beef short rib was soft and just delicious. And there's just not a lot of selections of sushi like other places. I gave it a 2 star because it was a bit confusing. The menu says (3 pcs) but the waiter said it's 1 pc per order. Like that doesn't even make any sense. So what we've been getting is just 1 pc for the other ones and just put on the qty like 3x.. We also had wrong orders sent to us but we took it anyway. Just a note, if you order on the first batch or so, make sure you take a photo. Sometimes they forget what you put on there until you remind them "Just waiting on this item.. still."

I was so excited when this spot's portion sizes were not huge! I loved the toy decorated plate. We were able to try so many different items. Their sushi came in nice petite sizes and was not loaded with rice. Their appetizers were also tiny portions so we got to try so many options, loved their fried chicken and beef rib. All of their sushi rolls were tasty, Green Dragon was probably our favorite. The nigiris were also tasty. We also ended with one of each of the ice cream, loved the cookies and vanilla. Definitely recommend this spot! Staff was friendly and quick to get our orders. Spot was located in a big plaza with parking.

Stopped by on a Friday for lunch with friends since we wanted to try the place out. For all you can eat at $23.99, it's reasonable as everything is made to order. We tried the following: Chicken Katsu - I think it was a bit over fried and oily Calamari - decent, my friend said it could use some seasoning, but I was fine with it Yam Tempura - good sized and delicious Beef short ribs - felt like it was more bones than meat Fried udon and Yakisoba - we specifically ordered these 2 to see the differences, but they honestly tasted and looked the same Salmon Citrus roll - one of the best dishes! Refreshing Salmon skin hand roll - also decent Sushi nigiri - all were good, discovered the volcano was just smashed fish Loved the sushi boat presentation! Made it a bit more fun. Overall okay for the price, but definitely don't expect high quality fish. Nice that there were photos for most of the items to help us order more easily. Leftovers are charged a minimum of $5, but at least you can take it home with you.

We came here for our holiday sushi fix as Sakura sushi was not open. The decor was chill, modern pan Asian and lots of booth seating options. We were shown to a booth close to the sushi bar and it actually felt very intimate and secure despite being one of a dozen diners. The wait staff, Justin greeted us immediately and gave us a sense of the parameters for AYCE . We put it a page of orders and the seaweed salad came out immediately as well as the shrimp tempura. Both were excellent. Seaweed salad was ample, nicely seasoned with a few sesame seeds . Then the rolls. I started with nigiri. NB here the rolls are singles, not pairs which is fine. The whitefish was creamy and delicious . Salmon was equally good. My daughter ordered a Kano salad which I'd not heard of, Evidently she'd had it in nyc and had not seen it since. It beat our expectations...thinly sliced surimi cucumbers and ? Cabbage? In a dressing. It was very good! Then a volcano roll, which came in a boat with ice and steaming away from a pour of water into dry ice. Very dramatic and way cool. I noticed our server, Justin was right on the spot with the next round of sushi as soon as our plates were finished. Also, he handed everything to us with both hands, a two handed gesture of honor that I truly appreciated. Justin topped our visit and now ASushi is on my favorites list. They also serve soju!!!! But as I was driving, I declined, but good to know. Thank you

    Heavy on the sauce.

A- for A Sushi and Grill Which means it's a failing grade if you're my parents. It's a good thing you are not. I both love and hate how thin they cut the fish. Cutting it thinner means you have more room to try more assortment and variety but I also hate it because service can be slow during the busier lunch/dinner times and the thin cuts can leave you wanting. Another positive here is that you can buy fresh wasabi to go with your meal. I would love to give this place a 3.5 stars but I guess I'll round up. They're not bad for an AYCE establishment.

Daniel's service was impeccable! He is so sweet & so accommodating ! The ambiance is very nice. I felt very comfortable eating solo. I was happy that the sushi came super quick after I ordered. Quality of fish was good but not excellent. I would come back here and try more ! I ate soooooooooo much after my gym workout. The price was 23.99 for the lunch special ! If you come here , ask for Daniel! He is the best !

This place never fails to meet all expectations. When they say all you can eat they really mean it. I'm a salmon sashimi lover and I can eat it here all day long. The quality is pretty top tier too for all you can eat. Shoot this place beats out a lot of high end sushi places too when it comes to quality. Service is always amazing and the waitresses are always on point when you are ready to put in your order. Ambience is decent as well. I'd highly recommend getting their snow crab legs and the wagyu nigiri! The smokey flavor they have on the wagyu nigiri is unmatched!

When we walked in it had a very fishy smell, so it kind of made us second guess our choice. But we went for it anyhow. The greeter/server was very pleasant and sat us. It was very clean inside with ample space between seat. We browsed through the menu and started with our usual edamame and pot stickers. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

On a Sunday evening, after checking out the Desert Botanical Garden, I was looking for some food in…read morethe area. I came across Zu Izakaya and it's great reviews as one of the options. I love Japanese food so my decision was made. I drove over and parked in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): I've been to Japan and there are plenty of izakayas there. Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!

Our uber dropped us off in the back of an apartment building and we walked a short distance to the restaurant. The restaurant is very loud, we were sat at a high top table and it was kind of awkward being elevated in the middle of the restaurant with lights beaming directly on you. Ordered a bottle of Sauvignon blanc. It was nice that it arrived in an ice bucket, but was disappointed by the stemless glasses. The service was extremely slow. Had to ask for soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. When someone that was not our server gave it to us, it was basically empty. The sushi was just alright. For the price I would've rather gone somewhere nicer. My roommate and friend did not like their rolls at all (avocado roll and spicy salmon) the spicy tuna was good, pretty hard to mess that up. I would not get the soft shell crab roll again, the roll was big and falling apart immediately. Nobody in our party of 7 finished the food they ordered. Overall not great service or sushi, I wouldn't come back here.

Lots of options for sushi, drinks, and appetizers on the happy hour menu. The spicy tuna roll was a refreshing roll with just the spicy tuna, cucumber and rice. A simple roll that still has a good spicy flavor but not too overpowering that it takes over your meal. The Vegas roll is a classic if you like fried rolls! Can't go wrong with this one. The nigiri was top notch. The yellowtail nigiri quite literally melts in your mouth and the flavors are buttery and soft. It's my personal favorite whenever I want nigiri. When I walked in, I was promptly directed to where I should go so I could place a takeout order. The genuine courtesy of the staff here was just what I needed after a long day. Lots of great options for sushi but ramen sounded amazing on a chilly winter day. I ordered a couple options and requested for the toppings to be separated so my picky eater could pick out what she didn't like. The food was out promptly and packaged with such care. Once I got it back to my daughter's hospital room, we were able to feast on the best meal we had all day. I will definitely be coming back to this place again and I am grateful for their kindness just when I needed it. Highly recommend!

Our server was attentive, happy hour was good and everything came out quickly. The cucumber salad was super refreshing and gyoza were yummy with a delicious sauce. We ordered sake bombs, and I absolutely love that they serve them with frosty chilled glasses. We tried two different ramen bowls and both were packed with flavor. The spice levels felt pretty accurate, the eggs were cooked perfectly, the meat was tender, and the noodles had a great texture. Each bowl had its own flavor profile, but both were equally delicious. We also tried the takoyaki (octopus balls). I was already getting full, so I wasn't as excited about them, but my boyfriend described them as a BBQ pancake bite. Overall, this is a great spot for ramen. I did notice the music was all girl bands and no boy bands. Clean restaurant, good service, flavorful food, and a fun atmosphere. I'd definitely come back.

We were very sceptical at first but the recommendation was spot on. We were seated right away and our server Bela approached immediately. She was very friendly and went down the menu telling us all about the specials and her recommendations. We needed no recommendations because we were there for one thing the Bei special. The special was an assortment of various rolls assembled beautifully making each piece stand out. The first bite was divine and as we worked around the ring of rolls they got better and better. The sauces brought perfect harmony and complemented the fish. The sushi was incredibly fresh not having the fishy order lingering. The rolls melted in your mouth like butter leaving you satisfied. It was so good we placed a second order. Bela stopped by frequently checking on us and also telling us about the restaurant and the area and provided a friendly atmosphere that you do not often get in northern Midwest. The Spider Roll was very good except for the sauce on top that did not suite our palate but after removing the sauce it was fantastic. The Hot Mama Roll was also amazing. The flavors went well with the Yuki Mango Nigori Sake. We also tried some of their beers and spent a while catching up. Belas service was second to none and made this reunion fabulous. The sushi at Bei was better than 95% of our sushi restaurants in my state and the price was very good. They also have a cute cat robot that delivers food! Thank you Bela we hope to come back again on our next trip to Arizona to try more food.

We tried two rolls: The Birdgang Roll - unique, super flavorful, and had the perfect little zing. I didn't even need soy sauce, which never happens! The Fire Dragon Roll - the kick combined with the eel sauce was incredibly well balanced. So good. We also ordered sashimi and nigiri, and this is where Mikito really won me over. I don't normally eat sashimi because I usually find it too fishy, but the quality here was on another level. * Bluefin Sashimi: melt-in-your-mouth delicious. * Yellowtail Sashimi: super light and clean. * Salmon Nigiri: not fishy at all--just buttery and delightful. Everything tasted unbelievably fresh. We sat at the bar and chatted with Jay, the owner and chef, and he was fantastic. Great conversation, clearly passionate about what he does, and the service overall was friendly and prompt. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend!! If you love sushi--or even if you think you don't--give Makitto a try. It's truly a standout.

Reviews are very good and so we gave it a try on a Saturday evening. When we arrived there were 2 people eating at the sushi counter, otherwise it was empty. During our time there another couple came in, so it was not busy and easy to get a table. The server was very friendly and service was great. For that I'll push my rating to 4 stars. For me, this place is personally 3.5/5. Everything was decent but nothing I would rave about. And that might just be me, because people love this place in other reviews. It was possibly just a bunch of little things that made me think it's just okay. I thought the texture of sushi rice was a bit too soft, I know it's sticky rice but I felt like it was a little over cooked and too soft. I also thought both of my rolls tasted exactly the same. Which thankfully I thought were good tasting. The stuffed jalapeños were definitely a miss, they were so under fried so mostly a mush of ingredients in a jalapeño. And initially I liked the karaage but had a couple of tough pieces, so overall that was just okay. Miso soup was solid. And I realize that the appetizers are cooked in the back and not by sushi chef, and people rave about the chef. However like I said, both rolls seemed pretty similar tasting and one was supposed to be more spicy. All very standard flavors, like I would expect from AYCE sushi. I think I'm just looking for more delicate flavors with higher quality pieces of fish. I likely should have tried some of the special items listed on the rotating items board near the sushi bar. Next time we go back I'll try sitting at the sushi bar and trying some speciality items. People have said this is the best way to enjoy this place. We will likely come back during a lunch or happy hour special, if I like it better and I can upgrade my review I'd be happy to give this small, local family run business all the stars.

I enjoy going to this place occasionally, and will definitely be back. I vacillated on how to rate…read morethem, but ultimately landed on three stars. Let's get into it. What they do well: cheap and fast. When I was there for lunch, it was AYCE for $19.99. You really can't beat that. The service is solid, though not stellar. The selection is pretty good, too! The restaurant is also well maintained. It's always clean and the decor is exactly what you'd expect for Japanese cuisine. Opportunity: the sushi has been falling apart all three times I've been there. It reminds me a little of what it might be like if i made it at home myself and didn't get the sushi rice right. That doesn't adversely affect the flavors, but it's annoying that I can never seem to dip it into the soy sauce and get it into my mouth without losing half the roll. Their service model also makes it so items from the fryer or other appetizers sometimes come out after the sushi rolls. There's no effort to synchronize the back kitchen staff and the sushi bar. This isn't necessarily an issue for me. I'm happy when there's food in front of me. But I could see others feeling like it's a disjointed approach and experience. Like I said, I'll be back. But if you're going to this place, make sure you're managing your expectations.

"How's everything so far? Good? Ok."…read more After completing my workout I was wondering on what I should eat afterwards and I just so happened to be craving sushi. However, the usual spot I recently ate at for all you can eat sushi had shut down...I did remember watching a video about the sushi challenge for Crazy Tuna on TikTok awhile ago and I was amazed...But I didn't want to attempt and be pictured in the hall of shame. So I came here. "How are we doing so far?" I showed up during the evening and was greeted by the hostess and they kindly showed me how to order. It was pretty similar to other all you can eat sushi spots but this location does not use a tablet to order which I liked. The ambiance was dark but well lit. It was quite cozy while I ate alone. "How are we doing so far here?" I glanced over the menu and saw a plentiful amount of sushi rolls and nigiris...but I lately I've been enjoying handrolls...On their menu there was not an option for handrolls so I asked a kind, attentive server about it and they said "just mark HR next to the one you'd like". So I ordered 3 spicy tuna handrolls and miso soup for the first round. I did not wait too long for my food to arrive. The quality of the food was delightful and fresh. I really enjoyed the "How are we here?" sushi rice; it had a nice vinegary taste to it. Besides the sushi hand rolls I also ordered some specialty rolls which I unfortunately do not remember the name of...but it was delicious. The miso soup was pretty standard for its taste, nothing too special. While eating I did notice that the service was odd...but I was not annoyed by it...Some servers would stop by my table to check up on me frequently and ask "How are we doing so far?" Maybe they had a complaint about their service l? Who knows? This kind of service was quite funny to me but I still enjoyed my food. Overall, Crazy Tuna will be my go to spot for all you can eat sushi in Chandler. The price is reasonable, the service is top notch and very attentive, and the atmosphere is cozy. I rate this place a 9/10. Adam Nguyen Copyright 2026 - All Rights Reserved.
