I enjoy going to this place occasionally, and will definitely be back. I vacillated on how to rate them, but ultimately landed on three stars. Let's get into it. What they do well: cheap and fast. When I was there for lunch, it was AYCE for $19.99. You really can't beat that. The service is solid, though not stellar. The selection is pretty good, too! The restaurant is also well maintained. It's always clean and the decor is exactly what you'd expect for Japanese cuisine. Opportunity: the sushi has been falling apart all three times I've been there. It reminds me a little of what it might be like if i made it at home myself and didn't get the sushi rice right. That doesn't adversely affect the flavors, but it's annoying that I can never seem to dip it into the soy sauce and get it into my mouth without losing half the roll. Their service model also makes it so items from the fryer or other appetizers sometimes come out after the sushi rolls. There's no effort to synchronize the back kitchen staff and the sushi bar. This isn't necessarily an issue for me. I'm happy when there's food in front of me. But I could see others feeling like it's a disjointed approach and experience. Like I said, I'll be back. Great sushi! A little loud since all the booths are near each other but we didn't really mind. The sushi quality was pretty good for AYCE but it wasn't anything that was too special or anything. We didn't go in super hungry but we did order a good amount with variety! The stir fried udon was a bit overcooked and sticky/slimy. I also had to add soy sauce since it didn't have much flavor. Rolls were typical and they were smaller rolls which we liked since it gave us the opportunity to try different ones! I would not recommend the hand rolls (we got the California handroll and it was a whole entire imitation crab stick inside). Thankfully we didn't need pictures because my party is very familiar with sushi. Update: Just read the news article about the owner. Will definitely not come back. Will not come back. The place is chaotic and disorganized. Staff running in every direction. Food comes out random times and half the items were forgotten but since it's impossible to flag down your server you just end up sitting there. Wanted to just order a few ala cart items off the menu and asked the young man waiting on us how to order this. He said we had to fill out the paper card on the table. Sadly I don't think he understood English very well so I dont think he really knew what we were saying. The kids only wanted edamame and I wanted an avocado roll. Wife and father in law ordered 2 small items. It took forever to get any food to the table then father in law didn't get any food until we managed to flag down the waiter at the end asking if it was still coming. Finally got the bill and it was $158 bc we were charged the All You Can Eat rate. No one explained anything, it's just a disorganized rush in the door. I haven't paid $18.99 for all you can eat sushi for over 10 years, so that alone gives Sakura Sushi an automatic 5 stars. With this in mind, there's really nothing to complain about because the value exceeds everything else. We came here on a Monday afternoon and got the lunch AYCE special. There were only 2 servers for the entire restaurant and 3 sushi chefs in the kitchen, more in the back. The service could have been faster, but again, at this price it's really hard to say anything negative about it. The lunch menu is much smaller than their dinner menu. We went here for dinner on a Friday evening and it wasn't too packed but I can't remember the cost, possibly $30 or less per person. The usual suspects include: - agedashi tofu - vegetable tempura - shrimp tempura - miso soup - salmon nigiri - freshwater eel nigiri (dinner only) - yellowtail nigiri - white tuna nigiri - rainbow roll - green tea ice cream If you really want eel for lunch, they have it in a standard roll. I also recommend the cream cheese wonton! One thing I love about this location is that you order the appetizers and nigiri per piece. That way, you don't feel guilty about wasting any food because you set the amount yourself. The fish to rice ratio could be better. I'd consider it to be standard but obviously they need to make money somehow so again, no complaints here. Sister site to the one in Gilbert and both serve an affordable and tasty AYCE sushi experience. I went for their $19.99 AYCE lunch and I find the variety to be sufficient. The service here was insanely fast. We placed our order via paper slips and received our food within a few minutes. The fish was cut thickly but the ratio of rice about 2:1. While the rice texture was pleasant, I would have liked it to be seasoned better. *Miso Soup: hot, salty, and simple. My bowl did not contain seaweed or tofu. *Seaweed Salad: sweet and chewy. The single serving was enough to last me the entire meal. *Yellowtail: my favorite piece. This was tender and fatty without being fishy. *Salmon: not the fattiness salmon I've tried but still tasty. Our first round of salmon was noticeably cut thicker than the second. The thicker cut was preferred given the amount of rice given. *Spicy Salmon: would not order this again as the salmon wasn't minced properly. The mixture needed to be more fine so then it could mix with the Sriracha better. Overall, this was a poor take on the classic spicy tuna. *Tuna: sweet and lean but not fishy. Nicely soft too. *Tamago: on the sweeter side and I would have preferred some greater density to the egg. Doubling the thickness would make it equivalent to the standard size of what I usually have in other restaurants. *Ice Cream: grocery store quality and not freezer burnt. Not extraordinary but I like having a dessert option included. Still the best lunch value AYCE sushi in Arizona. The seafood quality isn't mind blowing but it definitely surpasses the under $20 price tag. The service is especially fast and friendly here so I prefer this location over the one in Mesa. read more

We got seated right away and I loved that they put a party of 2 in a pretty big booth. I love the big red water cups. Some food came fast, and others were forgotten (twice we had to remind). Specialty rolls are pretty filling and come with 8 pieces. Lots of specialty roll options. One of the nicer ambiances for an all you can eat sushi. About $31 a person for dinner. Salmon avocado roll, rainbow roll (really delicious and just the right amount of rice with generous amounts of fish inside and on top), shrimp tempura roll (freshly fried shrimp, but kind of non descript), and Out of Control roll (very delicious and very generous fish filling, not too spicy even for my kids) Eel & avocado hand roll (pretty good) and New York roll (not that good, topping if real mushy and filling is too spicy) Eggplant tempura, yakitori tasty but over burnt, onion rings were good, freshly fried. Green tea ice cream, tasty but not very flavorful, creamy, but kind of bland. I thought I was crazy but they don't properly wash their dishes. I mean as in, i felt dried rice texture on the plate and smears and it wasn't just one plate. Partially due to heavily worn plates wearing down the luster but that is being apologetic, never seen that one. I liked the sweet potato roll with the crispy tempura bits. The avacado roll was okay. I'm not a big fan of sushi but love finding places that are a happy medium for my boyfriend and myself. He loved the sashimi. I'm kind of glad they brought some extra as our waitress seemed to have disappeared for quite some time and didn't really come to check up on us. This was a must stop place for my vacay visiting family (the locals), who have told me about this place at every turn. The hype was well deserved! The restaurant is pretty quiet, so it's excellent to be able to talk without shouting but better still is that there's four screens with different shows or movies playing so kids (or adults) can focus on something else other than conversation. A+ in my book. Service was quick and friendly, another plus but better still? The food is cooked to order. So you only get the freshest and nothing reheated. Okay, so let's talk food. Miso was perfect, small bits of tofu and Nori which is usually a minus in my book but the miso was so flavorful with just the right amount of salt that I can't fault them for small tofu or not enough Nori. It would have had none and still be a high score. The tempura is lightly battered and no taste of oil or only breading, you can taste the freshness of the veggies in each bite and how flavorful on their own they are. The mushroom and yam were by far my favorite, and the best thing here is that you get to pick what tempura you want. Love only broccoli? Only order as much of those as you like! The rolls too were quite good, the chicken roll was a pass for us but it could be good for someone just starting to get into sushi and not so into the fish aspect. The sweet potato roll/hand roll is something I will be raving about forever, I've never seen something like that offered and that might be my new favorite way. Very much recommend if you love sweet potatoes. Some dishes are noted to have spice but lacked in it (I.e. spicy tuna) and some undersold how spicy it was (crazy volcano). So be aware of your limits! For about 50 with tax for two people this was definitely well worth the trip and cost. I only wish they had one in LA! read more
