Wonderful dinner when I took a friend for her birthday. Service attentive but not intrusive. Quality of food was excellent. The eggplant appetizer is great. I disagree with other reviews as to small portions. We ordered 2 of the "little bites" per person and each had a full order of pasta and it was plenty of food for two people with hearty appetites. Chef/owner came out and greeted patrons, which is nice in a small restaurant. He also surprised us with a birthday dessert--a lovely touch. Wow...talk about inconsistent!!!!! I have eaten at A Tavola in the past and have been pleased, ....salads, pastas, soups consistent and delicious. Not certain what happed last night, 11/6/18. Dined with 3 friends and there were only 3 other diners there. When inquiring about the specials were told that they were out of several. As the place was essentially empty, we inquired about this and were told that it had been a busy weekend!!!!! This was Tuesday night....are they serving leftover specials????? We each orders a pasta, all were tasteless and tired. Two of us ordered the Malfade, pasta ribbons with basil pesto , pine nuts and goat cheese. I was acidic and just not good. The pesto tasted old and bitter. One of us ordered a half portion and honestly it was the exact same size as the full portion, just in a smaller bowl!!!!! Problem is we were charged for a full portion and a half portion???!!! One would think that there would be no problem serving a total of 6 diners memorable meals. I was just not good read more

I hate ordering chicken at restaurants because I always feel like I make it better at home. Not so here. The pressed rosemary chicken is amazing. Crispy outside, hot hot hot, full of flavor and so juicy inside. It never disappoints. The homemade pasta is also really good. Love this place! read more

We wanted to try this restaurant for the first time because I receive emails from them and the photo of a flat bread pizza with boars meat pushed me to make the reservation. we went on 1/25/17. I was very disappointed to see the two flat breads being offered we not the one I saw in the email marketing that I received. The web site does not note beer and wine only my 2nd disappointment, was looking forward to a vodka martini. The tables for a party of two are so close to each other that I could hear every word to the two ladies sitting next to us. Yes disappointment #3. It seems like the servers share the dining room, that is one takes your order another brings your order, can be confusing as we ordered a 2nd bottle of wine with one of them and waited a good 15 minutes before the wine was brought to the table. If you want salt and pepper you need to request it! I had the antipasto which was very delicious. My husband had the warm winter salad he noted is was just ok and nothing really special about , it was on the specials board. we then had the fig, arugula and gorgonzola flat bread pizza and the margarita. the fig was the better of the two. I am glad we checked out this restaurant but it is not on my I need to return for grilled flatbread pizza list. read more

The food for great, wonderful high quality clean food. The healthy food to table concept was nice. Small quaint atmosphere. However the day we visited was Mother's Day and the service was extremely slow and impersonal. I was aggravated from the moment we walked in having to wait 20 min even when we had a reservation. Being there is not a comfortable place to wait this was not a good start. The waitress was not attentive and service was very slow. Overall the quality was high but the service made the experience average and I don't know if I would go back again given it's high prices. read more

We have been to A Tavola a few times over the years and had great food and service. Unfortunately, we had a negative experience during our most recent visit a last Saturday night. We made reservations for 7:15pm, but we were not sat until 7:45pm. When we arrived, the restaurant was full and the hostess said it would just be "a few minutes." We never received an apology. Cozy and rustic atmosphere, with entrees to match. Our party ordered the eggplant purée and tomato/ mozzarella appetizers which were delicious. Our entrees were also very good- pappardelle with rabbit, Bucatini with seafood, and Porchetta. Both pasta entrees were light but flavorful. The Porchetta was one of the best we've had. Visited A Tavola for a birthday dinner. Service was great, but the food was marginal for the price. I had the Porchetta and it seemed to consist of a chewy piece of pork rind with no actual pork. Very disappointing. Partner had the skirt steak and it was ok, but not better than we could do on the good old backyard grill. Pass. read more

Went with another couple for dinner. Not having a full bar was a bit of an inconvenience. The service was great, and the food was good, although steaming the porchetta made it seem like you were taking a bite out of a live animal. I saw that it was steamed before ordering it, so I guess it was on me for ordering it, but the flavor was good, so if they roasted it it would have been much better. read more

The food is good. But, even though we had a reservation and the house was nearly empty, the hostess tried to seat is at the worst table in the room. When we requested any other table, she gave us grief about how busy they were, and then we got terrible service for the rest of the night. Not worth it. read more

We have eaten here many times but they did a very poor job on New Year's Eve. The food was fine but we waited 35 minutes for our reservation and the people behind us waited an hour. They clearly had overbooked and there is absolutely no bar or space to wait in. Also I used Vivino to check out the wine we ordered and the mark up was almost 400%. We booked a table last minute on a friday night and they were able to accommodate us, even when we came about half an hour late due to traffic. We decided to try a few of the piatinni- they were fantastic especially the sliced duck breast with foie gras, home made ricotta, eggplant puree. The RI squid was probably the only one that didn't stand out but it was still good. We also had the sauteed mussels and beet salad- both excellent. Our waitress was wonderful. We almost ordered the pork entree too but she recommended we wait because there may be too much food, and she was right. We still had a little room for dessert and had the EVOO cake which was light and refreshing. Overall we were very impressed and will definitely return. read more

We used to love A Tavola for their fresh homemade food, but the quality has gone down dramatically in the last few months. The small menu hasn't changed in 2 years. I really liked the two Parsons restaurants that were here before this - Catch and Parsons Table, so I wanted to give this a try, since Chris Parsons recommended it in a newpaper article. But meh, it was not that good. Salad for $11 was a small bunch of mixed greens that they didn't bother to clean the slimy bits out of. Bucattini with mixed seafood - pasta was way overcooked, the sauce was tasteless and sparse and some of the seafood was overcooked while a piece of squid was almost raw. Pasta pomodoro - plain tomato sauce - looked beautiful, but tasteless. Rabbit with pasta - just ok. Not a lot of flavor. All very small portions. Both of the two aforementioned restaurants had rather small portions, but they were so delicious that they were just right. The food and the wine are both WAY overpriced for the quality. I've only been a few times but every time I am there it is very,very crowded. Plus the restaurant is one room that is not very big. The severs are so friendly and genuine yet it does take a little while to get your food. Overall it's not my favorite restaurant and unless something has changed, the entree is usually small in comparison to the price you pay for it. read more

We started with a half dozen delish, briny oysters from cape cod bay which came with shallots, horseradish and lemon. These were the only ones on offer but they did not disappoint. Next we shared the homey pasta that looks like a zipper with a memorable tangy tomato sauce with goat cheese - I kept saying ummmmm and wished there was more. Last we shared the porcetta which we learned was pronounced with a hard "k" and not "ch" as we had been saying. Loved the tangy, bit of heat in the vinegared pepper and currants. We are regulars at A Tavola and can't say enough about our favorite restaurant in town! The food is delicious, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the service is impeccable. Great wine list, and fresh, local specials. We love that our kids can order real food in kid size portions. Our boys love the steak, and our daughter usually goes with pasta. We love to try the specials, but the bolognese is our favorite. For an unusual, but delicious dessert, try the olive oil cake with basil gelato. read more

Great food and wonderful, friendly service. The staff was responsive and seemed to really care that you enjoy your meal and evening out. The restaurant is small and a bit loud as it was crowded but not so much that you couldn't converse. We sat at the counter giving us an opportunity to see the meal preparation which may have added to the noise a bit but it was interesting to see the chefs at work in a compact and highly efficient kitchen. I can't get enough of this place. I came in last week for their Rose wine dinner and it was outstanding. Each course got better and better. The gnocchi with lobster should be put on the menu all the time. The wine pairings were perfect. Our server was so great and gave us a little description about each wine. I can't wait to come back. After dinner we walked to the back on the restaurant which is home to their garden. They are growing herbs, radishes, lettuces, and so much more! My previous review was filtered on Yelp for some reason, but I did just want to provide an update regarding the credit card issue I encountered whereby my actual charge exceeded my authorized charge by $17.00. I called and left a message at A Tavola upon seeing this discrepancy when reviewing my credit card activity online. A member of the A Tavola staff did call me back on Tuesday 12/6 and confirmed that my findings were accurate. I'm still not sure how the wrong amount was charged, but she was very apologetic and stated that a credit would be processed immediately. I confirmed posting of the credit a couple of days later, so the issue ended up being resolved after all was said and done. read more

I can't agree with the rave reviews for this restaurant. Our experience was very disappointing. The food was good but certainly not great, my main, a fish plate, came with undercooked potatoes, the fish was good and well cooked. I do not complain about small portions but there is some expectation of high quality with these prices and that was not achieved. Additionally the service was not at the level one expects for a restaurant at this level. The restaurant is crowded and noisy, to the point of really not being able to enjoy your meal. My husband and I are a fan of Vittorio's through his restaurant, Bistro 5. A Tavola didn't disappoint. The cured meats were very flavorful, especially the lamb sausauge. We split an order of their bolognese and it was amazing. I've been searching for the best bolognese and this is now at the top of my list. For entrees we had the gnocchi with shrimp with citrus and basil sauce. The combination of flavors was wonderful. The porchetta (roast pig) was something we had to try. And it didn't disappoint. The roasting process Vittorio goes through takes days to get the flavor and melt in your mouth texture. You won't find this on any other menu. It's a must try. The seating is a little tight. The service very good. The wine list is accommodating for the dishes they serve. Our server was very willing to have us try a sip to make sure we would be happy with our wine selection. I've been waiting for a restaurant like this in my area! It stayed true to the piattini concept of small plates to share so you can try a bunch of different items without gorging yourself on a meal-sized appetizer. I havent seen this much outside Boston.(Beware though, this may throw some people in your party off as there's a big size difference between small plates and appetizers). I liked the eggplant and homemade ricotta dishes so much I tried (and enjoyed) others I never would have tried before, like duck sausage and cuttlefish. It was all very tasty and served with delicious fresh bread. I had the chicken dish, which was a hearty portion and really tasty. I wished I'd had the porchetta my friend ordered because it came in a really neat presentation, under a glass dome that trapped the wonderful aroma and released it at the table. Very dramatic. The wine was served in 2 serving portions, kind of like the piattini concept for wine- we were able to taste a few different kinds without committing to a whole bottle. Our waiter was very friendly, and honest about the fact that the restaurant is new and they were working out a few kinks. For a place open just a few weeks I was impressed and I can't wait to see how it improves even more as time goes on! read more

We used to frequent A Tavola on a regular basis for several years (from the Parson's Table days to the early days when the owner was cheffing), until a below par meal two+ years ago--it was bland with some of their signature menu items replaced with lackluster options. We were disappointed to remove this from our list of favorite local restaurants. Last night, in the midst of a move and on hiatus from cooking for a few days, we thought we'd give A Tavola another try to see if the kinks were worked out and the food more exciting. Sadly, this was not the case. The pros: service, the bread, oysters, and the beer and wine choices. The chicken entree, however, was not good. It was visually unappealing--akin to something that sat in a cafeteria food line for an extended time. The skin was not crisped, but was limp and shriveled in a very unappetizing way. Peeling away the skin, the chicken itself was over salted and looked poached. The sides were sparse and didn't complement the chicken. We really wanted to love A Tavola once again, but it's just not there. read more
