I called A Test Only for information and the person that answered the phone was friendly and professional. When I took my car down the next day it took only 20 minutes. I stayed in the waiting room and the gentlemen turned up the air conditioner before going out to retrieve my car. I thought that was cool, pun intended. I highly recommend A Test Only for getting your vehicles smog tested. I used yelp to search for a smog shop in Fairfield. After reading the reviews I selected A Test Only. I called ahead to see if they would be able to squeeze me in on a Friday afternoon. Instead of having me come straight over they advised me that they had two cars in line and if I arrived in 45min the wait would most likely be shorter. When I arrived, Igor who was very friendly immediately assisted me and smog tested my 2002 Honda Civic. I was in and out in under 15 min with my car smog certified. So it makes a difference when a company changes ownership. The old crew "Helpful, courteous, wants business", the new organization, "couldn't care less". I have called a few times to double check on timing to get my RV in for its smog. I have taken all my cars here. LOTS. So when the guy I was talking to confirmed the price, implied a relationship that was there in the past, and asked that I bring it on a certain day (tuesday) because it would be easier to get the RV in and out because of less cars in the parking lot, I agreed. I called this weekend and he confirmed that tuesday or weds would be best. I stated cool, i'll see you on tuesday at 8am. I showed up this morning parked it, all setup so they can do the smog. When the guy shows up he tells me that the cover of the engine (this is based on a Chevy G30 van) needs to come off, so Im like, ok I guess ill do his job for him. Then he asked for the hood to open, and asked what year this is. I told him its a '92. Then after he comes back says well the engine is a '91, and I am not going to be able to do this. I wont go into details but basically I questioned what the heck, with all the conversations over the last couple of weeks etc. He said he cant do them, he doesn't have the experience..... dude its a chevy van!!! How simple can you get, oh yea, its not plug and play like new cars, with new cars its basically plug in the computer and see if there is an error. Oh you don't know how to plug in the hose in the tail pipe? Dude you got problems. If he knew to have ME remove the engine cover before anything he knows how to do a van... When I asked you guys are licensed by the state and if the DMV notice says to take to a Test only station (which he is) what do we do then, he says, there are lots of other places in town and he can refuse service to anyone.... Parking was a bit of a challenge since there's only one way in or out. They had to shuffle the cars around to get to mine. Luckily I wasn't in a rush it took about an hour total. There is a waiting room with tv if you like watching Jerry Springer Show- I don't. The service guy who helped me, Ed although nice kept forgetting which car I was mine. Fast service but the rips people off. I brought my truck in for a smog check. Told him I saw an advertisement for $40 bucks. He charged me $40 for the truck. THen tells me I didn't have a EP sticker for my new air filter. Then I brought back my second vehicle (Accord) an he charged me $49. I ask him why the difference and he told me it was for new customers only. The advertising never said anythin about new customers price. So at this point I paid about $90. Trying to renew my vehicle registration, DMV says they never received my smog check. I called back A Test Only and they told me I have to get my truck retested and that they need an EO# stick for the air filter. This time they will charge me an additional $33.20 to retest the truck. Most places don't charge anything but this place wants me to pay another fee to get it tested? WTF? Would not recommend this place to anyone. read more
