We had windows installed a few years ago and didn't hit any delays or anything. We had 7ish windows/sliding doors installed. The majority of the work was fine, but their crew was a bit messy. We had some new construction doors (they didn't do retrofit) and the stucco was decently matched, but while they covered the patios with sheets it still got all over the place and it took some time to clean it up. It was painful as a lot of it dried. Then I noticed one of my sliding door rails had trim nails showing. They basically shot the trim nail too close to the window and you can see it when looking at the rail. Not terrible, just annoying. When they finished (took two days) one of the windows had a long scratch on it. It was an obvious scratch and they never told me about it. When I opened my blinds it was right in my face. I called them and they said I had to go through the warranty process, which apparently is typical for windows, but I was extremely frustrated that they didn't point it out and didn't educate me about this process before leaving. Either they didn't see it (unlikely as they are handling the window for installation), or they scratched it (possibly?) or it was from the manufacturer but they failed to educate me about the process to get it fixed. They directed me to the manufacturer and submitted the claim to get it fixed, but it was again, frustrating. Lastly, I paid to get screens with little handles on them. I noticed some of the screens had tears so I called them and they said they'll order them. They got them in and there were no handles on them when I picked them up. I asked if they could order the correct ones and they would. I then asked if they could deliver it when they're in the area and the person at the front was willing to, but someone (Derek I think) came up and immediately said no, I'll have to come back to pick it up. As someone who went through all this I figured the least they could do was drop off the screens for me, but they weren't having any of it. read more

For those of you working with a tight remodeling timeline right now, I would not recommend getting Milgard windows. I was given an expected delivery date in late May, yet I am still waiting for my window without any definite delivery date more than a month later. The window distributor and Milgard should both be responsible for setting the right expectation for lead time. If I knew back in March that this was going take more than 3 months, I would have chose other alternatives. Folks who work there are friendly, which is a plus side. read more

We did new construction for all but 1 window, getting rid of all the old single-pane non-tempered aluminum-frame windows. We also converted a previously fixed 16-ft glass panel into a huge sliding patio door. Freddy is the best! He's clear and communicative, gives great advice, is friendly, professional, and personable, and responds very quickly to calls and emails. He guided us through the entire process - newbies as we are, and explained all jargon that I now feel like a faux windows expert. Our experience with our GC who installed it has been a nightmare, but for all the mistakes the GC made (including splattering stucco all over the place and bending and chipping the frame), Derick was available to calm us down and think through how we can have our GC make the best out of a bad situation. He reduced my anxiety level by a factor of 5. In hindsight, I wish I had his team do all the install work instead of being done by our careless GC's crew. Our house is old and seems to have opinions about which renovations it will tolerate; windows apparently are not one of them. Shortly after purchasing the property, we elected to replace the existing single pane, aluminum windows (some of which would barely shut) with Title 24 compliant double pane units. We were a bit concerned about finances given the undeniably insane housing prices in the Bay Area, so went with moderately priced Milgard Ultra fiberglass sliders through an acquaintance's company (he's a good guy). He contracted out the instillation with a team he had been collaborating with for years. I returned from a business trip late Saturday night after the windows had been partially installed to find serious problems (I'm far from a licensed glazier, but could easily identify poor craftsmanship and issues with weatherproofing); it was as if the installation was performed by a band of high school miscreants... I was forced to depart on a very long run to cool off. We ended up very amicably parting ways with that company (the owner was a true professional and took full responsibility for the issues and has ceased working with those installers). We decided to start over and completely replace the windows. We spent months searching for the right company, and finally found A Wholesale Window Company through Yelp. We had lengthy discussions with the owner, Derick, and the head installer, Glen. They were very tolerant of our probing questions, back and forth on trim and casing, and somewhat jaded approach. In the end, we decided to go with Milgard Essence casement wood windows and a French door with black fiberglass exterior. The price was imminently reasonable for the high quality, wood windows; new construction installation; and the addition of French doors. Derick's team did a very nice job with the installation, and although there were a couple of misunderstandings during the process, Derick and team dealt with them in the most professional and fair way. The windows are absolutely stunning and add tremendously to the depth of our home. Perhaps related to the house's disinterest in the installation of new windows, or issues with Milgard, (the latter being more likely) there were nontrivial mistakes made in the manufacturing process that are still being rectified. Although very frustrating, Derick's team has been very sympathetic and helpful during this process, and I can't blame them for these issues, since I saw that the windows were ordered correctly. Given the outstanding reputation Milgard possesses and Derick and team hounding them, I'm confident the windows will be taken care of. In the end, we have gorgeous windows that were installed beautifully at a reasonable price. I had been searching for a year to replace 9 aluminum frame windows and a sliding door. The task can be daunting if you don't know much about windows (retrofit vs. new construction, aluminum vs. vinyl, and the list goes on...). I can't say enough good about these guys. I dropped by looking for some advice on a couple of replacement windows for a reno and ended up picking up all my windows, a huge patio door, and my new entry door through them. I originally dealt with Freddy; he was very patient and not at all pushy. He put together an initial quote in less than 10 mins end-to-end, and it was much more competitive than a similar quote at a big box store. I called/dropped-in a couple more times to clarify some measurements and went back and forth on the entry door. They were really honest about pricing and advised on which sizes were stock and which were custom, which lines they could get a better price on and which would be more expensive. For the entry door, I dealt mostly with Glen and he was great, calling in to the manufacturer a couple of times to clarify available options. I was in a bit of a hurry to order before the holidays since I expected there to be considerable lead-time, but Porsha called within a week to advise on the window delivery in the next couple of weeks. In the end, I should have them a month early! My order may not have been the biggest one (less than 8k) but they were just as responsive as I'm sure they would have been with larger clients/contractors/builders. I can clearly remember the first thing that i said to my wife when we walked into what would become our first house for the first time: "we're going to need to get the windows replaced" So after getting quotes from two other 'reputable' places (Anderson & Pella), and checking out places like Home Depot and Lowe's, we finally stumbled upon WWC on Yelp and decided to drop in and see what they were all about. We went into their showroom and were greeted by Glen, who was very helpful. We already had an idea of the brand and style of windows that we wanted, but other than that, we were really kind of clueless. Within 5 mins of talking with Glen, I knew more about windows than i had ever wanted to and that made me feel a lot more comfortable about what we were in there to do. I mean, after all, replacing all of the windows in one's house is no small deal. But what really impressed me while talking with Glen, and then later with, Derick, was their honest and straight forward sales approach. For example, we have a couple of irregularly shaped windows in our front living room that would cost an arm and a leg to replace because of where they are and their shape. Derick told us that while he would be happy to change those window for us, that it probably wasn't really even worth it for us to do so. In fact, the way he put it was "if it was my house, i would just do this..." which turned out to be a much cheaper--though every bit as effective--solution to making our house more energy efficient. We did NOT receive this same type of attitude from Anderson or Pella, but i won't get into that in this review too much. After our initial meeting, Derick asked us to go ahead and email the dimensions for all of our windows and doors to him so that he could get us a quote. And this is where it really gets good, because on top of the fact that they didn't try to up-sell us or sell us crap that we didn't need, their quote came in WAY lower than the 2 other quotes that we got. *40% lower*. I'm talking thousands of dollars cheaper for the same quality name brand windows. Needless to say, we went with WWC. With regards to the actual installation, they retro fitted 7 windows and tore out and did new construction for 2 sliding glass doors all in about 2 half days. The crew showed up on time, they explained what they were going to do, and they cleaned up very well after themselves. It was *almost* as if they were never there. In addition, during the short time that they were there, both Glen and Derick stopped by at least once (i wasn't home personally for the whole installation) to check in to make sure that everything was going smoothly. Outstanding customer service, detail oriented, whatever it takes attitude, impressive quality, responsive to emails, and overall great experience from start to finish. We chose Derick, Glen, and team at Wholesale Windows over 3 others (Brothers, Advanced Windows Systems, Bay Area Window Pros) for the replacement of 9 windows in our home. Prices for vinyl replacement (retrofit) windows were all comparable between companies; however all others recommended simply going with the replacement vinyl. Derick was the only one who even had us consider the option of new construction windows. Yes, new construction is more expensive (and admittedly less profitable for Derick); however considering our home value and location, it made more sense from a long term value standpoint. After an exchange of several rounds of emails and a visit to the showroom in Santa Clara, we decided on new construction fiberglass windows (Milgard Ultraline), albeit at a higher cost, but still a good and fair deal. Glen later came out for detailed measurements, talked us through our different options for window configurations, and set up our expectations for timing of window ordering, delivery, and installation. The installation of the 9 windows and the stucco patching of a faux window (initially estimated at 2 days) actually took longer than expected (tools from their truck were stolen the previous weekend, which caused them to revert to manual installation techniques plus rain delays). The work stretched to 5 days of actual work, but Derick insisted that the standard of quality of the work would not change, even with the delays. We were impressed that he was readily communicating status and did everything required to get the job done right. Old windows out, new windows in, inside trim repaired, caulking down, stucco outside back up. During the final walk through, I even noticed that one of the exterior screens had a small tear, so Derick ordered a new replacement screen and had it dropped off after arriving a few weeks later. Also, no pressure from Derick, one of the owners. Well, when the crew came and began installation I realized I never really thought about craftsmanship. Lucky for me these guys are FANTASTIC! I had both retro and new construction windows due to some quirky features of my home. The installation took two and a half days (quick!), and went just as Derick had briefed me. Each day the foreman Mark would tell me exactly what would happen, and when. Everything did go exactly as he stated! I had the same guys at my house everyday; they are neat, polite, and treated my home with respect, leaving it as clean or cleaner when they left.
