Back in 2015 I had an oil change performed at A1 Auto Service Center on my 2014 Mazda 6. Several weeks later my oil pressure light came on while driving and my engine sounds were alarming. I took the car to my dealership and they pointed out that the oil filter had likely failed as the oil had leaked out which caused heavy engine damage. I contacted A1 Auto Service Center and was told that since the oil filter was good when I drove away, that it was my problem to deal with. After a LOT of back and forth over weeks and months WIX, A1 Auto Service Center's oil filter supplier, eventually covered the damage to my car. However the approximate $5,000 in rental car charges that I incurred, due to not having a working vehicle for several months, was never recouped. After doing some research into the industry, it turns out shops like A1 Auto Service Center are required to have insurance to cover situations like this and they didn't have it. In the end A1 Auto Service Center put the responsibility on me to pursue their oil filter supplier while they refused to take any responsibility. A reputable shop would have provided a backup vehicle while they took point and got it sorted out. I understand companies being cautious about accepting liability but this should never come at the expense of the customer. I felt helpless as these two companies consistently pointed the finger at each other all while I'm incurring debt in order to secure transportation just so I don't lose my job and ability to provide for my family. The way the owner/manager conducted himself towards me was disgraceful, disrespectful, and showed a complete lack of care for my situation as his customer. Everyone I spoke to that was involved in this ordeal had similar things to say him and the way he does business. This is, by far, the worst experience in customer service that I have ever received. Great customer service. Tony was very helpful in diagnosing my car's issues - which turned out to be a faulty heater auxiliary pump and heater valve. He also offered to try and find the needed parts at a better price than his supplier was offering (since my car was an older model Jag). He wasn't successful at finding better pricing, so the parts ended up being pretty expensive, but the labor was very fair and reasonable. This is a no-frills, get 'er done, facility. No lattes and croissants in the waiting room; nor washed and vacuumed car upon pick up - but their labor rates are really good and as the other Yelp reviews have stated, they are fair and honest. Took my BMW X5 to Tony after having gone to a place that "specializes" in European cars and spending $$$$ and still was having problems. Not only did Tony and and his crew fix my car, they did it for a whole lot cheaper. I have since gone back to have some other work done and still got the same great service from Tony and his team. I thought that I was in need of brakes on my car. So I checked out A1 here on yelp and the reviews convinced me to stop by. It is only 3 blocks from my house so I drove over. Tony greeted me promptly and asked what was wrong. I told him and he reassured me that he will call me with the estimate soon. I told him I was there based on the reviews and he said "I've been in business too long to make a buck by lying or cheating a customer." That told me something. Tony called me telling me that my brakes were actually OK. When was the last time a mechanic said you didn't need anything done?? He explained the noise was due to the glaze on the pads and rotors and offered to do a regular brake job and it would get rid f the noise as well as fresh pads. Told him go ahead and about an hour later, he called me kinda sheepishly. In providing full service, his mechanic was filling the tires to the correct PSI, one of the tire pressure sensors was corroded and blew up! He offered to replace the sensor valve or a regular one. For now, I went with that. I walked back over to pick up the car and met Ryan who again, promptly greeted me and explained what was done. Brought a car in to get a pre-sale inspection. They have a great deal for these! Only took about 30 minutes, if that, and Ryan took his time to explain what was wrong with the car, why he wouldn't advise me buying it, etc. and then printed it all out for me. A week later I took another car there, Ryan remembered me and inspected the car. He printed out the details and his recommendation. When the engine light came on about a month after I bought the car, I immediately called and spoke to Dale. When I brought the car up the next day, the engine light had turned off by itself, but I had some other concerns I wanted them to check. I believe Jeff was the tech who worked on my car, and he spoke to me personally after doing so, and was very thorough with his explanation (essentially that everything was certainly fine, and I was just a scaredy-cat). Dale seemed to be a little more flustered and it seemed as if he was new to working at that particular shop, or maybe he just wasn't used to working in the office. They certainly have no qualms accommodating anyone or working after they close, and Ryan and the techs who work there are awesome! read more

While I have my own mechanic that specializes in Honda's, I've used these folks for a couple of years now to do my oil changes and they do a great job without any hassles. Its not convenient for me to do my own any longer so these folks do a great job and I save a large chunk of money when I purchase my oil changes in advance for both of my Hondas. Do the math!!! You too will save a bunch. Many of the "quick lube" places make more money on upselling you on things you may or may not need (air filters, wipers etc.) that has NOTHING to do with what you went there for in the first place.... an oil change. I can buy and install those things much cheaper at an auto parts store. A-1 doesn't pressure me in any way and I enjoy the occasional friendly chat with them while I wait. This place is awesome. Tony is great and the shop is very flexible with your schedule. Further, the enterprise rent a car up the road provides a flat rate for this shop. Why 5 stars? The price (i called 14 places) was unbestable, the work was great everyone was nice and explained everything. I tried to use my own parts (which some worked and other were cheap/wrong) but some needed to be replaced. The cost was still reasonable and got my car done in 24 hrs. This was a timing belt with coolant flange repair on a 2002 tdi vw new beetle. read more

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome auto shop! I'm bringing all my vehicles here moving forward whether its for a small oil change or repair a bad water pump. My husband stumbled on A1 Auto Service first and he suggested I should bring my disabled Jeep to be diagnosed and fixed here. No pressure at all when the only way to get the Jeep fixed is to change the entire engine....options were given and ultimately I decided on my own what to do. Because of that, I brought another vehicle to be serviced here. Ryan was courteous on explaining the mechanical jargon. Customer service was superb! They were willing to work around your schedule....I mean, they waited for me to pick up my car an hour after they were close!!! And they provided a loaner vehicle on their expense. A1 Auto has proven time and time again to be the place to take my vehicle. Really nice guys, incredibly fair prices, excellent work... what more does one look for when looking for a mechanic? Finding a mechanic is a pain in the butt! Building trust with a mechanic is the hardest part. Taking your car to multiple places to get quotes and to be without your car each day sucks! When getting quotes, make sure to check out A1... and with time, I can almost guarantee you'll want to continue to build your relationship there. I've seen a couple reviews from people claiming that the work done didn't fix they problem and they had to return to the shop. From what I've found over the years - mechanics can only do their very best to diagnose a problem and fix it - sometimes there is more going on than they can see. With any shop, there is always the occasion where you have to return for further investigation if problems continue to exist. A mechanic only test drives your vehicle, upon repair, briefly. One time I even had a sound that existed when I drove it... and every time the mechanic drove it, nothing! Talk about frustrating for both of us. read more

Back in the Spring of '15 my starter was going bad and I was taking a risk holding it off and driving around. One day going to work, my car wouldn't start and I was sad. I had to leave it in front of my apartment complex where I would also risk getting a parking ticket for parking over 1.5 hours. It was there for 3 days. Fortunately, no ticket! In that time, I was looking for a shop that does excellent work with a reasonable and fair price and these guys popped up. Requested an appointment after hours and was emailed back late evening saying that they ordered my part and was in the shop 2 days later. (Could have been next day, but I was carpooling to work) These guys were great, efficient, nice and friendly. They got the work done in about 3 hours and my car has been running like new ever since. The only thing I would say is that while they were swapping out the starter, they spilled some of my coolant and replaced it with a generic coolant. My car takes a specific coolant and I don't like mixing fluids, so that kind of upset me...but since I'm easygoing, I let it go. The positives by far outweigh that one negative. I can trust these guys and would return in the future if anything else happens. read more

Tony was great. Had problems with the power to the engine and could only go 5-10 mph. Dropped it off with Tony to do a diagnosis. He called me the next day to let me know what was wrong and how the part worked. No one likes to have their car break down, but I'm glad that when mine does I can bring it to A1 Auto! I have had the chance to work with Ryan and the crew at A1 a few times over the last couple of years. The first time was when my husband's car had a rod that snapped in the front end. We had been to other places before, but as luck would have it, A1 was the closest to where we had broken down. We took the car in to them, and after a thorough look-over, Ryan gave me the estimate on the repairs. We went and got verbal estimates from another repair shop (just to make sure), and the price that we were quoted at A1 was more than fair - it was much more affordable! Car repairs are expensive enough to begin with, but once the car repair shops add their labor and jack up the prices on the parts, it usually gets really outrageous. The estimate was affordable, and the work was done so quickly! The damage to my husband's car was pretty severe, and the tow truck had made it worse, so I was surprised when I got a call two days later telling me that the car was ready to go! We have worked with A1 a few times since then, and they have always been great. The customer service both over the phone and in person has been wonderful. They seem to be willing to bend over backwards to take care of you, which is something that I love about them. They try to work with you the best they can with finances (car repairs are still expensive, but at least A1 is honest!). Ryan even took me behind the counter to show me the prices he had looked up on the parts we needed, so I would know that he was not trying to overcharge me. I always recommend them to friends looking for a mechanic. It is really hard to find a mechanic that you can trust - that you know isn't adding items onto the bill just to squeeze a little more out of your pocket. I will never use A1 again and I warn people against using A1. My car ran and I could drive it before taking it there. I can no longer drive the car and the work I paid for was not done. I had it brought home today and it won't even lock. My car had a full tank of gas when it was taken to that shop and came home on empty . Had a major issue with an o2 sensor that was improperly installed before I owned my truck. Unfortunately the fix was the worst case scenario but they took the time to attempt the low cost repair before replacing the exhaust manifold. They had the most competitive pricing on labor/hr and the parts were reasonable. They also installed the o2 sensor that I purchased. Other nearby shops wouldn't install my own o2 sensor and charged much more for the parts and labor. They also inspected my rear brakes, at my request, for no additional cost. I will definitely be sending my truck their way next time I have repair needs. read more

SHORT REVIEW: Untrustworthy, Unreliable, Incompetent DETAILED REVIEW: My young adult daughter lives out of state from me and had a problem with her car not starting. She asked for my assistance with getting her car repaired. Road side service was not able to jump start the car and it had a brand new battery, so that was clearly not the problem. Her car was towed to A1 and they took it in on a Saturday afternoon. By Monday afternoon, they still had not conclusively diagnosed the problem, but believed the car needed a new starter. PROBLEM #1: No communication from A1. We had to call each time for an update, they did not call us to tell us what was going on. On Tuesday, they replaced the starter but that did not solve the problem. When I asked the manager, Greg, how that could be since they had diagnosed the starter as the problem. I told him I was confused about that. He became condescending and rude retorting, "What's so confusing about it?" PROBLEM #2: Rude, sarcastic communication from staff. I spoke to the owner, Tony, who assured me they would get to the bottom of things. They supposedly determined that a "connector wire" was bent and once straightened out, the car started again repeatedly with the old starter. On Wednesday, the car was released with a clean bill of health. Minimal charge for labor, and no new starter needed. It seemed too good to be true, and it was. Two days later, the car failed to start, showing the exact same symptoms as before. Car was towed back to A1 on a Friday afternoon. I spoke to Tony again, but he was "with a customer" and could not talk to me. I asked him to call me back when he had time to talk. He called me back a short while later and told me he'd "figure out what went wrong, OK?" I told him it really wasn't OK and that we needed to figure out where the diagnostic went wrong in the first place. I explained that it concerned me greatly that the owner of a business was not more bothered that his shop had possession of a vehicle for four days without solving the problem. Furthermore, my daughter was stranded, again, with a car that wouldn't start and was forced to obtain a rental car for the second time in a week. His response was to tell me that he didn't have the vehicle for four days, that it was really only two business days. PROBLEM #3: The owner of the business was insufficiently concerned about the mistakes made by his staff to properly diagnose and repair the car. On Saturday morning, the manager, Greg, called me to tell me they were going to replace the starter. When I expressed my confusion about why they would replace the starter when they had already done that earlier in the week without positive results, he retorted, "Do you want to come down here and diagnose the problem yourself?" At that point, I must confess that I lost my composure. I told him we'd have the car towed to a different shop and not to do anything further with it. PROBLEM #4: More rude, sarcastic behavior from the manager coupled with a complete disregard to correct a problem they failed to correctly assess the first time. Bottom line: There seems to be no integrity or pride to stand behind their work. When one adds in offensive behavior, I wonder how they stay in business at all. read more

Poor communication between customer and service manager resulted in incomplete sub par workmanship. After telling the service manger numerous times what work I wanted done to my car. A full week later only a portion of the work (that was repeatedly requested) was completed when I picked up my vehicle. The final cost was literally 4 times the amount that was quoted. And when I returned the vehicle to them to correct a mistake they made. I was asked to pay up front for the work, to correct their mistake. I have had problems with them in the past and thought I'd give them another chance to redeem themselves. This was my last mistake with them. I took my to the shop next to theirs to get their mistakes fixed to make my vehicle safe to drive again for a fraction of the cost they asked for to fix their mistake. Military member recently relocated to the area. Was looking for a good honest mechanic. Overseas mechanic messed up my alignment. Bad weather was coming and i wanted to be safe. Brought it here to find out what was wrong.They suggested changing one of the ball joints and an alignment. Absolutely didn't fix the problem. Snowed shortly after and spun out on the freeway. I originally went to A1 Auto Service Center because of the perfect reviews. I went to the shop, they let us in early, and were extremely kind. Told them that we were on a budget and needed to have an estimate on the work that needs to be done. Keep in mind this is after we had taken our vehicle to get a diagnostic the day before. They call saying our bill would be $239, which was what we were expecting. We get a call saying our vehicle was ready to be picked up and our current bill is $394! Needless to say, I was not thrilled. The lack of billing transparency will definitely make me take my business somewhere else. I gave this rating a 2-star versus 1 because they did do great work on my fiances vehicle. read more

Probably the best auto mechanic experience I have ever had! I brought my vehicle here thinking that all of my breaks and rotors needed to fixed. The quote I got from les schwab was for 800$. After telling Tony this he said well I will only replace what need it and it still won't be that much. An hour after I dropped my car off tony called and said that the rear breaks were still 40 percent good and that he will clean them but not replace them. I have never had a mechanic SAVE me money. Tony might of lost 400$ on my car today but by being honest he just gained a customer for life and I will send everyone I know to A1. No need to quote or compare prices this place is legit read more

Just before the record breaking heat wave set in, my AC decides to stop working (of course). So I take it to A1, thinking and hoping that all it needs is charging. They call me up an hour and a half later and say that it's ready to go. I pay the $100 for AC recharging and drive off only to have the same thing happen. AC for the first few minutes and then nothing. Back I go to the shop. They promptly got the car back in the shop to re-examine the problem. 10 minutes later they say my problem is a broken thermostat. So they put a new one in and in total, 4 hours and $200 later I'm good to go. Nice guy running the show. Would I go back? Maybe. read more

I took my van in there because it was over heating. They informed me that I had a blown head gasket. Quoted me a price and there was now I could afford to pay the quote so they recommended a company to see if l could get a loan. I got the loan, with extremely high interest. What really pissed me is that they over charge for parts. Don't put bolts back in to where they go, missing bolts or of manifold. I also am missing the gasket that goes in between my engine and timing belt cover, so dirt and grime can possibly get in and totally screw up my van. I will never take my van back there. I had to take it back 4 times because of things that they did wrong. The things are: messed up so my cruise control wouldn't work, had to take back because smoke was coming out of the engine department, I had to take it in again for smoke coming out of the engine department because instead of putting it the correct gasket they used silicone to fix it but that didn't work, and the last reason it went back is because they didn't change the O2 censor which is what I wanted changed in the first. I found that Greg was rude. The mechanics come into the wai8room swearing about something, which to me is very unprofessional. I want my money back. They did a bad job on my van. I have broken parts of my seats, I told them about the broken parts of my seats and basically ignored what I said. I wrote a letter to Tony saying that I was going to sue him for a refund the money that I paid them, since they made many makes. I shouldn't have to pay for them wasting my time since I had to take it back 4 times. That is totally unacceptable. They also seem to buy a echeap parts but increase the cost of the parts close to 200% What a total rìp off. There is no integrity or politeness in this office if you ask a question. read more
