Uh oh... After spending more than $15000 to have a new, metal, insulated garage door put in, we've reason to wonder if we made a bad mistake. Everywhere else we go in any of 4 vehicles, we can open garage doors from as far away as 1/4 of a mile; the same applies to gate security devices. This brand new garage door motor and master control unit won't open the door from any of the four vehicles parked outside in the driveway, 4 feet from the master control unit. Each of the technicians who has come here to troubleshoot the system have literally worn out the door-opening units in our vehicles, repeatedly blaming the vehicles. Blaming our vehicles? The vehicle is too old. No. One of the vehicles was purchased a week before the new garage door was installed, and its door opener works at three different houses and five security fares. The vehicles have an incompatible type of garage door opening software/hardware. No. One of the houses we go to has a newer master control unit built by the same company. Bravo Sierra. We were also sold numerous exterior and interior security cameras : half of the outdoor cameras refuse to work more than momentarily. We spent $700 to obtain what should have been the hardware fix for this problem, but guess what? Our hardware is the problem: a little research has shown that the manufacturer withdrew this model of camera 3 1/2 years ago, so I guess A1 Garage Door had to clean out their stocks... Worse yet, the AI receptionist reports that the company does not service these cameras which they sold to us and installed recently. What wasn't revealed until A F T E R we signed and paid for the contract was that we have to pay $62/month for software and services to run those very same cameras. No mention of it before, verbally or in writing. No disclosure whatsoever. Caveat Emptor. Let the buyer beware. A few very good technicians. Some very good products. I am located in Round Rock, TX. I scheduled a technician to perform a tune-up on my garage door because it was making a horrible noise and the $29.99 offer sounded great. On August 19, Cody Deaver, also known as Orion, came to my home. Before the appointment, I had already applied garage door lubricant myself. After inspecting the garage door opener, Cody told me I needed a new opener. He then presented three Lift Master garage door opener options. I was shocked by the prices, which ranged from $1,200 for the basic model to $2,100 for the higher-end model. I explained that I wanted to do some research, get a second opinion, and consider my options. Despite this, he spent approximately 30 minutes trying to convince me that I needed a new opener. As noted in the inspection report, he identified numerous failures. He even offered to go to Home Depot, purchase a Chamberlain opener, and install it himself. I found that very unusual. I did get a second opinion, and I did not need a new opener. The issue was a single wheel around which the belt wraps that had not been lubricated. The second technician applied lubricant to that wheel, inspected the door, and it now works as good as new. Clearly, Cody did not thoroughly inspect the garage door. Had a proper inspection been performed, he would have noticed that the wheel simply needed lubrication. I feel that the company sent a salesperson rather than a qualified technician. DO NOT TRUST! Called for service. They tightened a belt but then actually sabotaged the belt sprocket by filling it with debris causing it to make a horrendous noise and not close properly. Well not even 24 hours after said tune up the spring broke. I suspect the tech did something to the spring so he could sell me a more expensive repair. I feel awful having to update my review to 1 star, but my recent experience with A1 was terrible and others should know how I was treated. My garage was having trouble closing. It would get to the sensor and open, like something was in the way or sunlight, but that's not the case. I called and made an appt for their $29.99 garage service (which I understand does not include sensors) and advised the phone operator (who was great btw) of the sensor issue. Michah came out and was rude from "hello". He kept looking at my garage with a disgusted face and saying it was too old to service, insisted I needed a new garage door. I didn't dispute that. I understand my door is from literally 1981 but it's working fine other than the sensor issue. He refused to service my door and kept speaking to me in a very condescending manner by speaking really slowly then saying "do you understand what I'm saying?" I have no idea why he was treating me like this. I was so taken back by his attitude during our entire experience I asked him to leave. I called the company the next day to let them know about my experience and haven't heard anything back so guess they don't care about their customer experience. A1 has been my "go to" company for the 23 years I've lived in this home and I assure you when I do buy a new door it won't be from them, which is a shame. read more

Horrible.."UPsold" me a fancy spring conversion kit for $2800, when I probably just needed the older spring adjusted... DID NOT diagnose properly.... garage door would stop midstream.... You would think they would know how to troubleshoot a Genie with the blinking lights....that tells you what is wrong...NO First they told me the door was coming down with too much weight., hence the spring conversion kit spiel....then .they told me the unit was hot, and used a leaf blower to cool it down in a 110 degree garage...WHAT A JOKE... Then they say the sensors are off... Turns out the battery for power failure lasts maybe 2-3 years....mine was 5 years old.... I unhooked the battery and the door seems to work just fine now... They said the $2400 conversion kit used rollers that were junk....UNREAL....the more expensive kit rollers were enclosed, always lubricated....so why would they have the junky wheels on a $2400 conversion spring kit.... nice way to make you spend the extra $$$ After two tech visits, and $2600(senior discount ) the door was still not right...called the office..asked to speak to a manager....was told I would get a call back in 72 -90 hours or something like that....HORRIBLE... never did hear back... one more thing.... was told AFTER the install and payment, that I could prepay $150 for a spring adjustment ,because in one year the door would ""weigh" 25 lbs. or so, and need adjustment, should be @ 5 lbs... said it would be $250 down the road without "prepay".... $250 to adjust the spring? He then continued pushing additional repairs related to the rails. One door did need trim replacement due to sun exposure, but after doing some research later, I realized I paid significantly above the industry standard for the work that was done. The technician was extremely pushy and would not take "no" for an answer. Another frustrating issue happened immediately after the tune-up. One of my garage doors would not close because the safety eyes were misaligned. Mind you, I called right away and these were supposedly adjusted during the "tune-up." When the technician returned later to install the weatherstripping, he told me he would have to charge me another service call just to fix the issue--even though it was directly related to the work they had just performed. What really bothered me was that I mentioned I'm currently recovering from cancer and that money is tight right now. That didn't stop the representative from continuing to pressure me for additional services and add ons. I honestly feel bad for elderly homeowners or others who may be more easily persuaded under these kinds of tactics. Called the company because I had accidentally backed into my garage door back in March 2026. The garage door was brand new because I had just got keys to a new build 3 weeks prior. A1 came out and initially gave me the quote it was roughly $680 or so to replace the damage I did. Which was already pricey but I was willing to pay it because I needed it done. Then they upsold me on springs which took my bill to over $1400. It's May now but it had been sitting with me every time I open or close this garage or even look at it. It felt like at the time the sale on the springs was an upsell. Customer won't know any better so just say they need something else for the overall maintence of the garage door. I felt that at the time even as they were driving away but didn't get to check reviews until today 5/21 after just being fed up with this door. On the day of service they fixed the damage to the door and placed a new bar on. While telling me the garage weight went from 5lbs to 20lbs. Because of this they wanted me to now buy new springs for the garage door. Keep in mind like I said, i had just got the home 3 weeks ago, no one has ever been in the home since its a new build. Meaning NO wear and tear from years of use. The door isn't even a year old. Not even a month old to me at that point. The $600 quote to fix the damage now jumped to to $1400+ because of the new springs. As a customer I feel like they sell it as "well you don't want wear and tear on your garage and parts due to the new weight". Which seems right but I had told the guys I had just moved in 3 weeks ago, boxes were still in the garage. There could be no confusion on the door being new. After checking homes builder and looking online. The doors are rated to hold much more weight than just 20lbs so there was no need for this sale to happen. So I got tricked into buying the springs under the guise of protecting the maintence of the garage. My bill jumped from $600 for the initial damage to suddenly $1400 by the end. I've been so irritated by this for over a month now and every time I open the garage I think about it. The garage was before whisper quiet and now it's extremely loud when you open it. Garage door is above a bed room and if you are a light sleeper you will be woken up by it. No amount of WD-40 is going to reduce the noise because of this heavy bar they added. It's just a constant nuisance now. They also got the outside seal done as best they could but I can still see it's not perfect. So getting in/out of this garage is a constant reminder that I was tricked into over paying for something, t's loud nuisance now, and it doesn't not look completely perfect. When they worked on the seal they seal they said they'd work on it as best they could but since the garage is metal you don't want to over work the dents/seal and mess things up. They really got over on me so I won't be coming back here if I can help it. Then I look at reviews and it's saying the same thing. I had heard of the company before seeing their trucks all the time and called the first emergency number I found. Which was a mistake. Just looking at multiple reviews people have also complained about the pushy sales of unnecessary items. With at least 3 other people also sold springs they likely didn't need, or just simply over charging people because several reviews also say they had similar experiences. I couldn't back my car out so called A1. While they say they offer the best service and understand pricing frustration in responses to reviews. If multiple people say they experience upselling, and overcharging where other various other companies charge a fraction of A1's cost. It starts to look like more of a pattern of business practice of A1. I now just have this constant loud $1400 reminder anytime I go out of my home and I can't recommend this company. Especially, because multiple people have had similar issues. If it was 1 review saying this I'd be maybe inclined to believe it was a bad experience but several reviews with the same story is just a pattern. read more

Tech looked at the damage, quoted $462.00, includes a 29-point inspection, realign the rollers, reset torsion system, level the door. Used one hammer, one screwdriver, popped the rollers back into place, ran it up and down, works fine. I asked if he was going to adjust the price for the 15-minute job, he said no. Charged $59.00 trip charge, $23.00 for shop supply, (2 paper towels), and did not do any 29-point inspection. What a rip off. Then tried to sell us a new door for $15,000.00. Do not recommend this company. They are an embarrassment to the community. P,S, they block their email address you have to get permission to contact customer services. We have been working with this company since we had the original door replaced back in 2013. Our experience back then was top-notch and so have follow up visits for maintenance. Had them out today and met Andrew, who was so personable and didn't walk in with a hard-sale attitude. I initially called for a check-up and once we realized that we were over the 5 year age of when the springs were last changed we talked through the options of replacing those and some other options to consider. Again...Andrew, our service person didn't hard-sell, no bait and switch, not pressure whatsoever. I received 3 quotes for my garage (replacement of springs, rollers, bearing and opener) and A1 was not the cheapest but they were by far the most through with their initial inspection and didn't the time to explain everything to me. They even price matched a lower quote I received on the opener replacement. The work was too quality paying attention to the littlest details like coiling up the extra wire at the sensors. My brother and I found out and immediately intervened. We forced contract termination and a refund of the $12,500 my parents paid as an initial deposit. A-1 installed a door and opener last year. After installation I added insulation which changed the weight of the door. I had A-1,come out to adjust the spring. I was told that with the adjustment the spring would work properly but its life would be shorter. After having some issues with the door, A-1 came out and with no hesitation, told me that information was incorrect and that a new spring would be needed. They have ordered the new spring and will install at no cost to me. Professionalism and integrity is all I can say. read more

Outstanding work performed on 3 garage doors in need of attention. Preston, the technician, stuck around to do what needed to be done in a professional and courteous manner. Replaced springs, door seals, rollers..... turned out to be much more work than expected, however Preston explained to me all the load factors with the old equipment. Doors now work flawlessly, are adjusted better than when they were installed 5 years ago, have correct springs (original springs were incorrect), and seals seal everything up the way they are designed. You might spend less.... IMHO you' get less and will be disappointed. 5 stars all the way. read more

Don't use them ! They installed a new door and opened a few years ago they put stickera on everything saying lifetime warranty. When you call that's not the case if any part is covered by some warranty you still pay for them to come out plus labor if it's a covered part. In my case the door was blinking a code and not working they would not tell me why the code was wanted me to pay for a tech to come out. I looked up the code it was just something was blocking the safety sensor. They wanted a service call for that no way someone who works with this every day did not know 10 blinks was safety sensor. read more

I feel completely bamboozled by this company, and after dealing with their technician, I now see exactly how they run their business--it's a hook, jab, and uppercut routine. My garage door spring broke--not an old system by any means. I called A1, and the rep on the phone told me she couldn't see if my parts were still under warranty. Apparently, only the technician can see that information on his tablet when he gets to my home. So, I agreed to have him come out. When the tech arrived, he diagnosed the broken spring and then sat down at my kitchen table to pitch three different repair packages. This was negotiation number one--although I didn't realize it at the time. I chose the middle option, which came with a five-year warranty. My previous repair had only included a two-year warranty, and--just as you'd expect--the spring failed right after that period ended. So now, I was "on the hook" for a brand new spring. Then came the "24-point inspection." I figured it was just a routine check--but instead, the tech took apart nearly every component of the garage door, laid them out, and started pointing out issues. Suddenly, I was being shown a price sheet with hundreds of dollars per part, each needing replacement. And because the door was now disassembled and non-functional, I felt like I had no real choice but to agree. End result? A broken spring turned into a $2,190 bill.
