After work I met my friend here we both just wanted a shellac manicure. One of the employees started on her and then 20 minutes later one on me. There were a lot of staff around so I do wish that they waited on me sooner. When I told her I wanted shellac she insisted that I get powder dipping. I say maybe next time but she wouldn't let it go. She made comments THE WHOLE time. When when I was walking out she said next time come and I'll do powder dipping. I would have enjoyed myself more if I didn't feel pressured the whole time to get something I didn't want to get. Overall the manicure looks pretty good, she did make two of my nails bleed while cleaning them up. There was dried up blood on the side of my nail which was disappointing. Went to A1 nails yesterday, had Tony as my nail tech he did my nails exactly how i wanted them without giving me any issues about nail design unlike other nail salons I've been to in the past. I would highly recommend A1 nails to anyone along with Tony as a nail tech when i go back in 2 wks for a fill in and color change im going to get my pedi done as well. I felt very welcome as soon as i walked in the door for my appointment. As far as cleanliness goes I would also rate that as a five-star I feel not only does a nail salon have to look good and clean you also should feel welcome before even at sitting down with your nail tech if those don't meet the standards then your nail experience probably won't be as good either, not saying that other nail techs don't know what they're doing it's just those are the key things I look for before sitting down in a chair. read more

I always go here for manicures when I'm in town visiting family. Even during busy holiday times they always manage to squeeze me in, even without an appointment. All the staff is very friendly. The manicures are well done and last for a reasonable amount of time. They have lots of colors to choose from and also have no problem if you bring in your own polish. The only thing that *might* bother some people is that the staff chats a lot with each other and not in English. I don't care, but I know it does bother others. read more

I came to get my shellac taken off. I wanted to get my nails done again but the staff is not friendly. The lady that was attempting to take off my shellac kept saying.. oh no way this is shellac.. it's not coming out. I told her where I got my nails done and that is was in fact shellac and not gel dip or anything else. I had one nail that had an acrylic and she didn't even take it off. I had to come home and cut my nails. Long story short I need to find a good nail salon near by! read more

This is the absolute WORST place i have ever gone to, do not waste your time or money. First of all i live not even a block away so its convenient for me to go here but i will never, EVER go again. I have been getting my nails done for years. I never break/chip my nails but every time i go here my nail always break the same or following day. I have been there a total of 3 times. The last time I went back to get my nail fixed the next day he said he didn't have time to fix it and i would have to come back another day. I don't remember his name but he was rude as they always are when I go in there. On top of that i have paid less at other places and received better more efficient service, they are to expensive to not be great at what they do. If i'm going to pay more money than a normal nail salon I expect the service to be better and my nails not to chip. Follow my advice, save yourself the head ache and the money. A1 Nails is not worth the money you spend. BAD Service all around. The shop looks nice but that's about it. read more

He is always professional and kind. Helen does a wonderful job on Pedi's and they are standing in line for her mani's. I have recommended this salon to many of my friends. I visited A1 Nails on 8/13/19. I have taken this time online to articulate my experience as I would not wish this type of physically painful pedicure experience and the ensuing personal wound follow-up discomfort and necessary personal care on anyone. On this date, a male manicurist/pedicurist ( I was told his name was "Tony") performed a pedicure for me. His demonstration of my pedicure was extremely physically rough on my feet to the extent that when he used the foot file on my feet he filed so deep and so hard on my right foot that he sliced off a chunk of skin on the side of my right big toe. It was very painful and burned immediately. I told him I was uncomfortable on the spot and he continued with nearly the same approach. His poking at my toe cuticle felt cutting and painful at times and was far from a pleasurable experience. I also told instantly he was hurting me. I reported my concerns to the pedicurist himself that he was too rough when he completed his service, and showed him the physical damage as well as the Manager in Charge, Helen. Helen asked me if my toe was bleeding, and brushed me off with a response of unprofessional annoyance to my report of concern. My toe did start to bleed and seep fluid and has continued since that date with careful cleaning and antibacterial medicine. It is very difficult for a wound to heel on an exposed portion of a toe due to the necessary requirement of wearing shoes. It is time-consuming and painful. I called Helen a day after and explained to her how severe the damage was to my toe. She did not apologize or offer any solutions. Today, August 19, 2019, I went into A1 Nails to show Helen my wound so she could see the depth of my concerns. She acknowledged my presence, continued to work on her client, then she ignored me and walked away from me to the front of the salon where she accepted a phone call continuing her business as if I was not present. I continued to wait for help to no avail as I was invisible to the manager of the salon. The treatment I received was horrifying. I will never return to A1 Nails. read more

A1 was the only nail salon I would go to when I lived in the Troy, Royal Oak, or Madison Heights area. They consistently gave nice clean pink and whites, regardless of the technician. I never had "thick" nails here. read more

I really tried to like this place. I went here on and off for two years - kept trying it again despite multiple issues because it was close and convenient. I really didn't want the hassle of finding a new place or traveling distances in traffic to get there. However, I finally had enough of this place. They do "ok" work (nothing special - moderate variety of nail colors, not really known for nail designs, manicures generally last fine) but their customer service is terrible. Examples (just a few): -I've been made to wait very long periods without being told a better time to come (after asking if they could do it) -Another time rudely sent away - told to come back another time - because they wanted to close early -I've specifically made an appt with Helen, only to get there and be handed off to someone else while she sat and looked at her tablet. -I've been "pressured" on how I should cut or style my nails. At one point, I had Lan exclusively doing my nails...really liked her. She was always very friendly, dependable and did a good job. Unfortunately, she got sick and could no longer work there. Eventually they were down to only 3 people working, which is tough, but you can't take that out on the customers. At that point, you either had to make an appt or call before you came, which was fine...but they always rushed the services - being somewhat abrasive with the nails - and made you feel you were bothering them by being there. The final straw was when one of the men did my nails on a Friday and by the next day, a pocket of polish on both thumbs had cracked, snagging all of my clothes. I went back there at my earliest availability on Sunday afternoon to have him repair the two thumbs (because filing the polish down only made it worse). They decided to close early and so he said he couldn't do it. When I told him it was damaging my clothes, he argued with me about whether anything was wrong with the polish (it was quite visible and you could feel it when you touched the nails). He finally told me to come back another day to have it fixed - because they wanted to go home early. My schedule didn't allow that, so I had to go to another salon to redo my entire manicure. Prior to this, I'd never asked them for a redo or complained to them about anything, but enough was enough. A-1 is one of the best nail salons in the area. I have been to most of them and A-1 does the best job. I live in NYC but return to this area at least once a month. My nails never chip when Helen does them and they will always try to fit you in even when they are busy. Their prices are some of the most reasonable in town. For gel nails and a pedicure I have paid almost double in other area salons. I always go to Helen. However, a few of the male technicians do not have a very good grasp of English and you have to make sure that you are understood. read more

Finally stopped in after work after driving past this place for 8 years. I paid $2 more than if I had just traveled 5 more minutes east for a "just ok" shellac manicure. Their selection of gel colors is not very good, they only have maybe 40-50 old woman colors (5 versions of mauve is not needed in any nail salon). While I was in there an over anxious woman didn't care for the way her pinky nail was painted on her pedicure so she fixed it herself and they didn't even apologize to her that she wasn't satisfied and had to paint her own nails- they seriously couldn't have any cared less about her because she had already paid. None of the staff hustles or readily greets customers. While they wait for customers to pick a color, they are all way too glued to their ipads watching movies etc. If you can find no where else to get your nails painted, than go here. If you want to actually get a quality job and interact with people who don't mope around like zombies go anywhere else. They charge quite a bit for doing a half-assed job. read more
