They showed up right on time, jumped on the job immediately and were finished in less than an hour. One of my trees had many leaf-covered branches growing through a mess of electrical lines. They took considerable care and were able to remove it without incident. Sy called back the same day I left a message. He came out, gave us an estimate for pruning and dead limb removal (2 trees), then we had to wait a couple weeks for City permits. He and his crew arrived on a super cold day (11/17) but finished the job quickly and cleaned up too. So the last review that began with a Wow kinda made me wonder. But, I woke up recently to a giant branch and various things in my backyard. I Yelped A-1 and made a call. The receptionist took my information quickly and within an hour Sy had called. But I missed the call, and not only did Sy call back but he took the time to come and actually see the backyard. We spoke briefly and he recommended some additional trimming of the tree. Best part, I was having a BBQ at 3 PM so Sy decided he could move the fallen branches immediately and return to do the trimming. I agree with most of the reviewers that Sy was prompt when responding to my initial call as well as following up on when they would potentially remove our tree/weed. I had Sy price out removing a large weed in the back, evergreens in the front as well as some tree stumps along our fences in 2013. I remember being quoted around $700 or 900 for all of this. We opted to wait on his services. This year we went for it. This time we only got an estimate for the backyard weed - it was $750. I questioned Sy re: the jump in price and he said he most have quoted us two years ago. I was surprised by the price jump but my husband and I decided it was worth it to get removed. I would recommend anyone who uses him but opts to wait get a written quote. I read the reviews here and was impressed with the comments re: clean up and care taken by the crew to not destroy any existing plants. I can not say that I had the same experience. Because they put the chipper in the alley and used the pathway along the garage they trampled my hostas as well as some another plant nearby. I was disappointed with their carelessness in not picking up the branches. I would just say if you use them to explain to them to take care with any plants you don't want damaged. Overall, we were happy with the removal but I think we would look else where next time if we need anything additional removed. read more

A-1 by name, A-1 by nature. They came round and quoted on a weekend, and it was the cheapest quote by about 5% - not a lot - but not negligible. They removed the elm tree next to my house two days later. A team of 4-5 people chopped it down, and removed the stump, and tidied up every step of the way... even going so far as to put protective barriers down so as to not inconvenience my neighbors with sawdust. Based on the reviews here, I called A-1. Sy came out the same evening, took a walk around the tree with me and discussed what needed to be done. He said he'd try to schedule it in that week while in my neighborhood -- the office called the next morning, and by the time I came home from work, it was done. Better than that, except for a little bit of saw dust on my ferns, there was no evidence they'd been there. There were a lot of potted plants on my deck under the tree and none were disturbed. The removed quite a bit of dead wood and might as well have evaporated straight from the tree. I'm really happy with the straightforward service, the promptness, and the cleanliness. I had a ceder tree stump on the side of my house behind a fence in a very tight space that needed to be removed. The previous owner has buried the stump under grass that was always dying.
