One star is way too many! Definitely go elsewhere, unless you don't mind getting taken advantage of, love to waste time, or if you enjoy being treated rudely. Should have expected the bait and switch coupon offering, based on other reviews... but the coupon says extra for "truck" yet when you get there, suddenly the coupon applies only to "light duty/pickups" not "trucks" as it very clearly states on the coupon. The tech insisted that my Ford F250 is heavy duty and costs extra. For reference, a Ford F250 is a Class 2B truck (10,000-lb GVWR). DMV (the same body that mandates the smog checks) classifies trucks up to Class 3 (an F350) as light-duty. True "heavy duty" truck classifications (Class 7-8) start at 26,001 GVWR... but i digress. When i asked about the difference in the process to smog check a "truck" versus a "pickup", the tech (wouldn't tell me his name) rudely said he would not honor the coupon and that he would not smog the truck. I had not said I wouldn't pay the upcharge, but since he could not explain WHY it would cost more he just shrugged and walked away. Next stop: BBB and BAR to file complaints. Not that they will do anything, but there should be repercussions for this shady smog check shop. read more

Nothing mechanically wrong with the car when checked, just hadn't been driven in awhile. Watch out! This place uses coupons to get you in, then if you have a 2 door coupe will charge regular price ($60) as the operator defines this as a "sports car". This is a shady method to make more money as my "sports car" is no more involved than a sedan, as it has the exact same everything minus 2 doors! Wow, wish I had read all the reviews regarding the deceitful bait and switch price tactics... Don't reward bad behavior. We need businesses like this out of our community. Save yourself from the unnecessary inconvenience and aggravation. Prior to taking my car to AA Smog Only, I confirmed with the owner via telephone, that the price of the smog check included the certificate transfer to the DMV (fee also indicated on receipt). When I arrived at his shop, I reconfirmed what was included in the price of the smog test. He then quoted a higher price than that which was quoted over the phone. When I confronted him, he stated that was his fee. Due to time constraints, I conceded to his new price. Yesterday, I received notice from the DMV, that the smog test was delinquent. I called the owner; he was unwilling to take my information to resubmit my smog certificate, unwilling to accept any culpability, unwilling to refund the DMV transfer fee, and had the audacity to tell me to take my certificate to the DMV. This F...kn jack. I called and got a bait quote for $40 after giving him my make model and year for a smog check. I get there and asked him again what it would cost me for a smog check and he switched it up on me for $45 (it's not the difference of the price, it's the inconsistency). I told him, I just called, he said "waYel 'y yu no say so?" and I'm thinking to myself...Should I have said anything or maybe I just wanted to see how ethical your business practice is? So he said, "Ok, Ok, $40"dalla, so I whipped out a coupon from Smogcoupons.com for $20 OFF, and he says, "it NOT mine" after he had realized that my cost would only be $20 + $8.25 State Fees... So I looked down at the coupon AFTER HE HANDED IT BACK TO ME with attitude and I was like, WTF??? under my breath. It's highlighted in red "AA SMOG TEST ONLY". So he does a double-take after I mentioned that it is and he says, "oh it mine, it mine." and laughs with a constipated look on his face. A few seconds later after trying to come up with a rebuttal he then points to his posted sign in his garage and says that the coupon is only good OFF the original price of $60 something dollars... What an M'eFFer. He then mustered up the audacity to ask me what I wanted to pay, WTF??? again, is this the PRICE IS RIGHT? so I told him that the SMOG GUYS in Aliso Viejo quoted me $25.95 with a coupon. M'effer told me. "go there then" in front of another customer. It makes me think why "The F" would you advertise this then? I can only assume that his bait and switch tactics backfired on him. The shop is behind the 76 gas station, in the same lot. After reading the bad reviews below, I know going in to be very polite to the Smog Test guy. You know, I want my $25 off coupon to be used. So I called in advance and he quoted me the price for my 1994 Nissan Altima, which has an extra charge cuz it is an old car. Other places were going to charge my car $70+ which is way too expensive for me. I went to the shop, waited for my turn, I was very nice to the gentlemen and always smiled to show in good faith how appreciative I am for him doing this way past closing. He even offered to help me find another smog cap cuz I was going to fail. He charged me the normal price of what he charges everyone, so I showed the cash first and then gave him the $25 off coupon, and he applied to coupon to my car. Which totaled to be only $47 cash, which includes the certificate, smog test and the extra test for older cars. Like I said before, I was really appreciative and so he was really nice to me. Here's a little yelp justice for everyone who's ever been screwed over at this establishment. The shop itself is behind a 76 gas station and car wash, which makes parking a little bit difficult sometimes, and a bit hard to find. But there are ample signs, so you'll know where you're going. I tried getting a price quote by calling, but kept getting hung up on whenever I mentioned I had a coupon. The man who runs the shop is very rude, very Asian, and a hard-ass. The online coupons are only redeemable when you pay in CASH, which means I had to go and pull money out of the ATM in the 76 station. The coupons are also misleading because it is not $34.95, it is $44.99 for Trucks/Vans/and SUV's a detail that is not mentioned on the coupon. Not to mention the certificate comes out to $8.25. When I tried to tell him that there was no indication of the upcharge fees, he got flustered and grabbed the coupon out of my hand, tore it, and told me that I could go somewhere else. This was aggravating, but I've learned that the best way to deal with this type of prick, is be humble and kiss ass. I told the man, that I wasn't prepared for this, and didn't have enough money. He told me that I can go get money at the ATM. I argued that he has a Visa and Mastercard sign on his window, but was informed that there is a $3 charge for using credit cards. I asked him if he could do it for $34.95 (instead of the $44.99) and then I'd just tip him really well. I also told him I was in a hurry (not really, it was raining and I didn't want to stand around for that long). He was pretty reluctant, but agreed when I showed him the cash I had (about $50), and said he'd have it done in 20 minutes. 20 minutes later, he gives me the keys to the car, my receipt for $43.20 (including the certificate), and just stuck out his hand for the money. (again, rude and barely professional) I counted out $43.20 to the penny, and handed it to him. He then got angry and told me that I had promised him a tip. I acted surprised and totally apologetic, and responded "Oh, of course. I forgot, I'm so sorry." I then grabbed a stick of gum from my glovebox and handed it to him. "It's double-mint." Okay, to be perfectly honest, Mr. Nhuan Lam doesn't possess the greatest interpersonal skills, but I, myself, deal with customers of all ethnicities and culture, and can understand when someone doesn't act exactly like we'd expect them to. Now, if I'm not mistaken, Mr. Lam is Vietnamese. I've read a lot of articles pertaining to Vietnamese culture, and this has enabled me to understand that, generally speaking, they take time to warm up to strangers. But, when you transform from stranger into their friend, literally everything changes. They're sweet, curious and welcoming. I've been to Mr. Lam's AA Smog shop more than once, and he's become more friendly with me, even asking me about my car's stereo and making small talk. However, at the end of the day, what matters to me most is a smog test that's done quickly and at a fair price, where I don't have to wait in line for 30-45 minutes. read more

Trucks, SUV'S, cars 1999 and older always more at most places-So be prepared and ask so you know exactly the cost. I called this place to make sure they could smog check a 2012 Jeep Wrangler because ez smog couldn't do it. They assured me they could. He messed with it for 30 minutes and the nsaid sorry I cant do it. It would not shift out of first gear. The Jeep dealer said this is because they were shutting off the traction control improperly. Thankfully I read the Yelp reviews before coming here so I was prepared for this gentleman's somewhat rough demeanor. I called and made an appointment, and once I arrived the work was done promptly. He was not rude in the least, just somewhat quiet and not overly chatty. The price was reasonable, and while he ran the test my husband and I wandered over to the car wash at the front of the building to grab a couple of bottles of water and sit and wait. He told us to come back after 15 minutes, and when we did, my car was ready. He gave us the paperwork, we paid, said thank you and left. I would definitely go back here if needed.
