Had a perfectly fine experience. He smiled as he greeted me, gave me a price and I asked where I could get a cup of coffee. He pointed me to the car wash waiting area and said he'd be done in 15 minutes. In 15 minutes my nose was still in the book and he walked around to tell me it was ready. I really like this smog shop because they were honest. I have three cars and I was going to another smog shop in laguna niguel for the past 2 years or so, but when one car failed for something minor and the guy didn't tell me, I didn't like the response, so I went looking for a better smog shop. I went and found AA smog and the owner told me to get my car fixed before the smog check. I did and it passed. I feel Lam is very honest and credible and knows what he's doing. Nice guy! read more

I read through the reviews while I was waiting for the work to be completed. I was in and out in 15 minutes. The price was very competitive and less than the last time I had a smog check in Mission Viejo where I waited an hour. It is a one man shop and yes the guy seems very Vietnamese. He is there to get the work done and not to make a friend. However, i did get him to smile and all I had to do was smile back at him when I could not understand his heavy accent. If you live in Laguna Niguel and you want a convenient place to get a smog check this is it. If you pay cash it is cheaper than the Chevron across the CVP. read more

GET A PHONE QUOTE FIRST! Two stars are generous; and only for price. When I called around for prices, I was quoted some astronomical prices for smogging my 2007 BMW. This place was the cheapest - 4 years ago. When I arrived, the owner yelled at me and was very aggressive, as I didn't know where to park due to all the spaces being full. He was trying to tell me to double park the other cars (which I would never normally do), but I couldn't understand his English very well. When it came time for this years' smog, I didn't feel like getting quotes again, so I reluctantly returned. I called in the AM, told him my car and year, and was quoted $40.00. When I arrived in the afternoon, I was greeted with a bill for $50.00. I explained that I'd called in the AM and was quoted $40.00. He then asked me for cash, but I only had $22.00. I told him this was not communicated, but would pay him $22.00 and the balance on the card. He seemed angry, and begrudgingly took my card and charged me $40.00. I doubt I'll return again. read more

Here are three tips for making this place work for you (worked for me at least): 1) Carefully read the terms of the coupon/discount. You'll see that vehicles older than 2000, more than 4 cylinders, and SUV/trucks are all an additional fee. In addition, you'll see that a certificate fee is NOT included. Finally, you'll see that it is cash only. From what I understand, if you use a card there is an additional $3 fee. 2) Get there early. Because so many people have found the coupon/discount, this is a popular place to get your smog check. I arrived 5 minutes before they opened in the morning and was out the door within 20 minutes. 3) Bring cash. As stated above, there is an additional $3 fee if you use a card. Good luck. read more

I agree with all other reviewers. I found this place in SmogTips.com. The website says "We'lll beat any competitor coupons". And it also has $25.00 OFF printable coupon. $25.00 OFF of what??? I called this place ahead of time to confirm what the add says and told him I have a coupon from another place for $24.95 + 8.25 certificate. The man said sarcastically "If you go to Santa Ana you can get it done cheaper". I then asked him what is his OUT THE DOOR PRICE. He said "$40.00, you pay cash and you come now". I went ahead and got it done just because it was convenient for me at the time. So my suggestion to everyone who reads reviews for this establishment, Get OUT THE DOOR PRICE commitment from this guy over the phone ahead of time, clarify everything including what year and type of car you have. Get it in writing when you arrive before he starts any work on your car. It is just a hole in the wall place with no waiting room or anything, but I don't mind that as long as the man honors his words. As far as this man character, he is unprofessional and does not honor what it says on his website. I showed him his ad on my Note Pad, he acted like he doesn't know what I was talking about. If he wants his business to survive he should start honoring his ad and accept other stations coupons like it says or take it off his website. Hope this helps. read more

I called ahead to confirm his location (intersection of Crown Valley & Niguel Road ), gave owner my car details,told him I wanted all inclusive price,and was there 15 minutes later at which time he actually quotes his price which was fair & lower than other stations.He then tested and then was finished within 15 minutes & I was gone. To me time is money ! On previous occasions (at other more visible & popular folksy locations) the wait time has streched to ONE hour and MORE while you wait and wait. This test center cannot be seen from the street, so you might have a car ahead of you, but probably not, which means no wait, and thats for me ! I'll take a slight communication problem to overcome anytime to avoid waiting for an indefinite time. read more

I agree with the other reviewers that have stated this place uses bait and switch tactics. I called before my visit to see what the price would be for my 95 car. The guy quoted me at 62.99. I found a coupon online for $25 off and when I presented it the Asian gentleman went off on me as to how he can't take it and 62.99 is the cheapest he can do my car because it's a 95 and he needs to do an extra test. I argued that there was nothing on the coupon that said anything about which cars it covered, it was simply $25 off ANY smog. I couldn't understand half of what he was saying but he got very flustered and told me he won't honor it and turned his back on me and went to his desk. I've come here before when a different guy was working who was very friendly and honest, and he honored the coupon I had at that time for the same vehicle.. This guy for whatever reason flat out refused to work on my car and turned his back on me. Very unprofessional and misleading, definitely go somewhere else if you have an older car. read more

I wish I could give ZERO Stars!!! This the the absolute worst business! If there are good reviews, perhaps they reflect a previous owner. I went there In Dec. 2013 and then today, Feb. 2014, and the barely-English speaking man loudly YELLED at me both times! My car failed in Dec., so I had it fixed. I brought it back for a re-test. As soon as he saw me he started yelling that it was going to fail again....OK, whatever. It has to pass now, I thought. When I went to pay, the yelling got worse, and he was screaming something like, "I TOLD YOU LAST TIME"!!! What he told me, I don't know. I was starting to fear for my safety. He left my car sitting in his lot, windows rolled down, key in car....not good. Please go to the CHEVRON station across the street...it's always been good. I only went to this guy because I didn't need an appt.....now I see why!!! read more

Number one smog guy! I always bring my vehicles here as the price is always reasonable and the service is good. I rarely have to wait long. If he's busy, he'll let you know so you don't have to wait. I've had two cars smogged here and I'm taking a third car this week. Not the most customer friendly guy but it's no frills and he gets the job done efficiently and at a good price. Used the online $20 coupon. Owner joked that I was taking money from him using the coupon (don't offer it then...). The online ad's price is VERY misleading. It shows $34.95, and $44.95 for "trucks" in fine print. Brought in a jeep cherokee and they wrote up the price at $72.95 plus $8 for the certificate and a $20 discount for the coupon. I questioned that the price seemed higher than the online ad and was told the difference was because my car is an SUV (I later confirmed the ad doesn't mention anything about SUVs). Even if I had brought a truck i was still overcharged. Total cost was just over $60 (which means you're paying $80+ if you don't bring a coupon). The car passed and was done quickly, but walked away with the feeling I wasn't treated honestly which was confirmed when I looked at the ad again. This business has very deceptive pricing. I called before arriving and asked about their pricing for smog testing. I was told if you have a sedan it is $62 and $72 if it is a non-sedan (e.g., SUV). I asked did these prices include everything and the owner said yes. When I arrived to the shop I told them I had a $25 coupon printed from the web and they said I could use it. When I got the estimate they wrote $62.99 and deducted the coupon of $25. The adding of $0.99 was a surprise but I thought it was minor. After they did the work they added another fee of $8.25 for DMV processing. I disputed the bill and said I asked did the price of $62 include everything. They said yes but said they still must charge for DMV processing. I indicated to them the coupon does not say excluding other fees such as DMV processing. The other person working with the owner said your car passed the testing as if that justified the surprise fee. I felt they are a classic bait and switch shop.
