This morning, I woke up planning to change the oil in my 2018 Porsche Macan. I usually go to my regular mechanic, but he was super busy. So, I decided to check Pep Boys online and was impressed by their technology for booking appointments. I filled out all the information about my car smoothly, and I even found a $45 coupon on top of the $118 oil change price. When I arrived at the Pep Boys location on Alicia Parkway, the guy at the front desk was very polite and friendly. I showed him the $45 coupon, and as soon as he saw it, I noticed a change in his attitude. Without even checking how busy the garage was, he told me it would take 3 to 3.5 hours for an oil change. Trying to save some money, I accepted it and decided to walk around the shopping mall to kill time. At 10 a.m., I looked for a place to sit and relax, but I couldn't find any bars open. After walking around fo 49 minute, I returned to Pep Boys and saw that my car was still parked outside the garage. I asked the front desk employee about my 10 a.m. appointment and why my car hadn't been serviced after waiting for 49 minutes. His response was, "Your 2018 Porsche Macan is very high-tech, and we don't have the right mechanic for it. We only have one mechanic who can work on it, and he's busy right now. When he's done, he'll take care of your car." I was shocked that such a big company only had one mechanic capable of handling my car. Frustrated, I stepped outside and called Jiffy Lube in Alicia Creek. They told me the price would be $129 and that I'd be out of the garage in 30 minutes. Without hesitation, I grabbed my keys from Pep Boys and drove less than four miles to Jiffy Lube. When I arrived, I was greeted by the most professional and happy team. The manager and employees were fantastic, welcoming, and knowledgeable about my car. I explained my situation, and they assured me I'd receive quick and proper service. I will definitely recommend Jiffy Lube for their outstanding service and expertise. I was embarrassed when Pep Boys told me they didn't have the right mechanic for my car. I'll never go back there again, especially after filling out all those forms just to get a $45 discount. I'd rather pay $129 and save my valuable time. Here is an update to my previous review. I received a call from the Pep Boys manager to address my issue with my previous visit to their shop in Aliso Viejo. The manager apologized for the service I received and explained their situation and since this was only my second visit I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. I did make another appointment to get a new battery and oil change for my vehicle on a Saturday morning. The technician that took my key informed me that it would be two hours for the battery and oil change. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR INTO THIS PEP BOYS. Took our Audi in for brake replacement and less than a year later the brakes were squeaking. When I took it back in, they argued that it wasn't a safety issue (not sure how squeaky brakes should be considered normal) and tried to weasel their way out of making it right forcing me to pay for upgraded brake pads even though they chose the originals. An update on my review. Shortly after my experience with this place, my boyfriend decided to change the brake pads himself the next weekend. He is very well-versed in car repairs and the only reason why he recommended Pepboys initially for a brake pad change was due to Lexus requiring a special tool to push the rear brake piston all the way in as they are electronic now. He managed to do the whole job in 1 and a half hours. The rotors were not "trashed" like the rude older pepboys mechanic told us they would be without assessing them. I even provided images of how they look, with no high spots or any considerable wear. No wobbles while braking either. I am still very disappointed with pepboys and will not bother bringing my car there for any service due to the poor customer service and rudeness of staff towards female customers who cannot defend themselves. read more

this place will make you pay thousands of dollars for no reason, I took my car to them for metal the sound noise coming from the front and the rear, later that day, I got to pick the car up advisor (GIOVANNY) gives me the work order he states that his technician diagnostic is to change the rack and pinion plus front and rear struts, and he tells me it's urgent is rubbing metal on metal you lose control of the car, they want $1644.20 just labor. so that's too much I bought the parts. Toyota Dealer I'm gonna attach the invoice. just part I paid $1700 labor I went to the shop and installed all the parts that Pep Boys recommended I paid $700 labor, still cheaper than pep Boys.... after all that, none of those parts were my issue for the sound at all it's completely something else.. I went back to Pep Boys. I had all the parts in the trunk. to speak with advisor (GIOVANNY) he tells me that you should've replaced them at our shop or a moron. I told him none of those parts you made me change is the issue I have. what difference does it make? his technician (Carlos) just went by the mileage and assumed it will be my struts in my rack and pinion, changing struts did not piss me off but rack and pinion it was $1000 just by itself and it has nothing to when I hit a bump I get metal sound. Giovanni gives me the service manager number (Rick Lynch) he's even worse than Giovanni he calls me and tells me my technician is experienced and it's not our fault. Yeah right nobody wants to take the blame. He doesn't even offer a apology as it being a service manager he cut me off a few times. they cost me little over $2000 I did not have to change because of their lack of experience and respect for peoples money.... bottom line this place is a joke it's dangerous actually to go there I don't even change your oil there a simple as that... Had new brakes and roaters installed in October and they have NEVER stopped squeaking. Took it in today and Rick said, "it's normal, all brakes squeak" I told him that's not true and he said, "go stand on the street and you'll hear them all squeek." WHAT??? My husband had just completed 6 weeks of radiation and had taken our small event to attend granddaughters college graduation and take grandson camping. We took in to have brakes checked at the Pep Boys in Alisho Viejo. Our main contact was Jovani. Got the call after tech looked at and was quoted 5,000,00. They said needed 1. New brakes and rotors 2. Cracked brake drum needed replacing 3. One inch of play on ball joint. We are on a limited social security income as we were on mission field for 15 years and knew that we were going to have to sell RV as there was no way of paying that. I asked if he could just do the brake job that was quoted 2,000.00 for us to get our van home 2 hours away and they said too dangerous that wheel would fall off if we tried. Picked up RV and drove home cautiously and took to our good friend, reputable Christian mechanic. My daughter who has a mechanic friend said that he worked for pep boys and they use scare tactics. Brought my car in (RUNNING FINE) to check out an oil leak that had been coming from the bottom. They gave me a call to say it could be fixed and we agreed on a price. The next morning, they called to say they took a cover off the engine to fix the leak, and they could not put the engine back together. I literally drove my car there in fine condition, and after they took it apart, they could not put it back together in running condition. Mechanics should put vehicles in better condition, or at least the same condition in which you brought it.... Not WORST, and not un-drivable. Regardless-- engine now ruined. My options were pay $8000 for a used engine, or get it towed home. The car was worth less than $5000 so I got it towed. The fact that a large National chain could offer no other solution baffled me. But, ordeal over, fine. But worst? They left EVERYTHING that they'd taken out from the the hood, ALL OVER my backseat and throughout the car. Nuts and bolts everywhere, pieces that were not the engine, filters, OILY residue, all over my backseats? Why?? I had jackets back there (that I left in the car because I expected to pick it up fine the next day) ruined. The inside of the car was left an absolute mess. Why? The car now being absolutely unusable after driving it in functioning perfectly fine (just with an oil leak) was one thing. The condition they left the car in is the reason for my review. Completely unnecessary and disrespectful. PLEASE AVOID PEP BOYS! I decided to write this review in the hope that others will not be subjected to the horror I have experienced after visiting this location for a simple battery replacement. Pep Boys ruined my vehicle and cost me substantial money in subsequent repair bills. After being forced to pay for negligent service, I had to have my vehicle towed away. I have never experienced anything like this before in dealing with a vehicle or anything else for that matter. Pep Boys provides a courtesy inspection notice when they check your vehicle in, and that document clearly showed there was nothing wrong with my vehicle, no warning lights on the dash, and nothing else to indicate that I was there for anything other than a battery replacement. However, if something goes wrong, the staff will simply lie to you and tell you that you brought your vehicle in and complained about items that you never even mentioned. They do this with no documentation to support their statements and simply because it will help them not take responsibility for any damage done to your vehicle. I spoke to Giovanny and showed him that my vehicle would not start, his answer was to take it to a dealer and that it was not their problem anymore. I called the next day and spoke to the assistant manager Ray , who promised me that they would refund my money and pay 100% of any needed repair bills for the damage they had caused. Well it turns out that Ray flat out lied to me. I then spoke to the store manager, Rick, who also lied endlessly, and made empty promises in an attempt to make me just go away. All in all, I spent significant money to repair my vehicle And hope that no one ever experiences the same as I have. Please AVOID this location at all costs. There are alternatives. I don't want to be inflammatory or too unkind... but I do want to put out there that I brought my car to this Pep Boys in Aliso Viejo. I was given an estimate to fix the issue for just over $2000.00. I was told that all of the itemized repairs were necessary. Something didn't sit right with me... so I picked up my car and brought it to my longtime mechanic when he opened on Monday. My car was fixed and my bill was $280.00. I was shocked. I have been thinking about that price difference for the last 2 weeks. My appointment for tire change and alignment was at 12:00pm. At 02:30pm the car ( 2019 Toyota 4Runner ) was still on the lift, none of the 4 new tires were mounted, no one was working on my car. Beware of the FREE tire rotation. Twice, I went to the Aliso Viejo Pep Boys location because it's close to home, and they offered this service for free. Both times, after the rotation was completed, the service advisor told me that a rear strut was leaking fluid and suggested it be replaced. So, I took my 4Runner to my regular mechanic, someone I trust (Saddleback Automotive in MV) for its next tire rotation, and had them check for a strut fluid leak. I was told they're all "dry as a bone." I'll never go back to Pep Boys for any kind of service. read more
