While I was in Charleston I had a good experience with these guys - they installed new exhaust manifolds and a few other things. In the month after I noticed some rattling sounds and noticed that the oil intake pipe wasn't as secure as it was before. Didn't think much of it other than sloppy work. In the months after the repair, I noticed more noises, but just assumed that I had to replace the engine because the shop told me that it sounds like the "lifters" were starting to go. I'm a traveler so I'm always on the go and recently (in Austin Texas +10,000 miles, 5 months and 4 days after the work), the noises became so bad that I started calling around places and getting quotes to get another engine put in. While they were diagnosing the noises, they discovered that there were a couple of bolts missing from the exhaust manifolds and had to redo the work that was already done. They changed the gaskets and secured them properly. On top of that, they noticed another exhaust leak in a different spot which was probably there five months ago as well, but Folly either didn't see it or didn't bother looking/checking. So far I had to pay $400 to fix their work and it looks like there's another 300 to go. Joey refused to refund for reimburse me for that however he did say that if I was in town he would take care of it. Unfortunately I am not and now I'm out $400-$700. Attached are photos of the work that was done then and the work that has been done now. They tried to argue that "well it's over 10,000 miles later and you didn't notice any noise right away" - This type of repair job should last over 100K, maybe they were sloppy cuz they knew I'm a traveler. read more

I'd give it 1 star but my experience was pretty on par with most mechanic shops today. Horrible communication. Maybe they'll answer the phone, maybe they won't. Maybe they'll call you, maybe they won't. Maybe you'll get your car back tomorrow, maybe you'll get it back 7 days after they said you would. Maybe they'll let you know exactly what they're doing to your car, maybe they won't. Best part is...my car still has unresolved issues and I'm down $500+ read more

There's no stress like the stress of having to find a reliable mechanic to work on your car. Lucky for me, I have found my new go to guy! The neighbors on Nextdoor all recommended this place and after my car mysteriously lit up error lights like a Christmas tree, I gave them a call. The gentleman who answered the phone (who I believe is the owner) listened to my issue and told me to pop by. On the call he mentioned that he would likely not have time to look at my car until Monday (it was midday Saturday at this point). No problem for me, so off I went. Check in was a little awkward, but mostly because they were busy and I wasn't sure what to do. One of the guys pointed me in the direction of a slip to fill out and had me leave my keys in the car for them. The main guy confirmed again that it would probably be Monday. Monday rolled around and I got a call pretty early. They had diagnosed the problem and wanted to try out a solution- not confirming that it would 100% solve the problem (my car had to be difficult). They gave me a price estimate and let me know again that this was a starting point and we'd see if it fixed the problem. Lucky for me- the first solution proposed worked like a charm. I got a call back within a couple hours to let me know it was all fixed. I confirmed their hours and scooted over to get my car! I appreciated that the guys were not only up front about timelines and pricing, but they were true to their word and stayed in contact. I felt very comfortable with the work that was done and have had no issues since (it's been about a month since the service). Go here if you have car trouble- it's a no BS environment. My wife uses FRAR for all of her car repair needs. I use a different mechanic because they are NAPA certified and I like the added protection of a warranty. This alternate mechanic can be pricey, so when I had my first real breakdown (180,000 on the Forrester, I'll love you forever Subi), I opted for FRAR as they were closer and had always been recommended by my wife. We got the tow, and FRAR diagnosed the issue. It was the repair that my NAPA certified mechanic had done 3 months prior. I batted back and forth between the two mechanic shops and this was the result. FRAR agreed to charge me nothing for the diagnostics and allow for the tow of my car to my other mechanic who agreed to not void the warranty. (The big reveal) A+ auto also covered the cost of the tow. It may be expected, but there was no question on their end that they would cover the cost and even set up the tow for me. I know that we all have probably been frustrated by our car service experiences at some point, but FRAR is a really great shop and I appreciate their customer focus. So, I suppose this is a review for both shops, but I would recommend FRAR to anyone. read more

These guys are the last of the old school auto shops. Honest and reasonable. They don't do unnecessary work but fix what was broken. Been going to them for 15 + years.
