My wife bought AAA for discounts at a resort we were planning a vacation. On a Friday afternoon coming out of Atlanta, she had a blowout on the interstate - called AAA they were there within an hour and changed her tire and had her on her way. We scheduled an appointment to go into our local tire co for a new tire on Monday. On Sunday night - we caught a piece of construction material in the center of the front left tire and had ANOTHER flat. Have not had any tire issues in year - then 2 within 3 days of each other..... Called AAA again thinking they were going to disown us.... not so. They had a tow truck out to us in less than 1 hr - towed our lexus SUV to the tire shop - for not 1 but now 2 new tires. Nothing but GREAT service from AAA and the vendors we had experience with. I am a yelper - and I have never seen such love em or hate em reviews. There are very few in the middle. I have an AAA battery that just died after two years. I called them to come replace my battery since it was still under warranty and they said it would be 3 hours and 45 min. It was 8:00 pm that meant they would come by 11:45 pm. It was dark and raining and I was supposed to wait in my car!!. I took uber home and tried again in the morning. This time it was 90 minutes and once AAA came he took almost an hour trying every way possible to blame it on my car rather than the battery. I think their batteries suck. Finally he replaced my battery. Why in the world should I keep paying if they can't come at a reasonable time in an emergency? read more

I've had AAA for over 40 yrs, upgraded to premier several years ago. I needed a tow due to an accident, have never used the tow service before. They left me stranded in a bad part of Stockton in the middle of the night for over 4 hrs. Needless to say I won't be renewing my membership. I started calling AAA at 1pm today. Transferred me all over the place. Finally got someone on the phone and i had a meeting. 1 hour for that. Started again by calling at 630pm. Transferred all over again. Finally told a truck should be there by 850pm. I walked 1 mile in the dark by myself and waited. It's now 934 and they are telling me 1 company passed, but no call or text. Next guy calls and I ask what he is driving he said a tow truck. I asked can you tow a F350 dually? He said no. So iam back to square one and they now say the"new" call will be able to handle my truck. 957. Me driver calls me, can handle the tow and says he will pick up my keys at hotel because he can't get here until 11pm. AAA should shut their call centers down and just have reimbursement centers since i have had to find a tow truck for the third time in a year! Iam going to look into US RIDER for tow insurance. If I could give less than 1 Star I definitely would! I have been a member of AAA for over 20 years. After trying to access emergency road service last night, No More! Our truck broke down and we immediately contacted AAA for a tow. We were in mid-town Anchorage, Alaska, easily accessible. The weather was fine, the roads were fine, no big deals going on. We were initially told a tow truck would arrive within 55 minutes. Seemed like a long time, but OK. No truck an hour later. I called back and was given a new time. 1 1/2 hours later! I called 4 times and was put off with a new time each call. Lots of apologies....no action! After 3 1/2 hours we gave up. We used our phone internet to locate a tow agency, called and they were there in 10 minutes! AAA was useless. I certainly would not want to depend on them in an emergency. Completely Useless!! I had to have a tow back in August of 2017. My car was damaged during the tow. I reported it to AAA and they said they would assign a mediator to the case . Very disappointed my mediator was very incompetent and after many phone calls I am no further to getting my car fixed. AAA is an ok service if you don't have to deal with any of their service monitors or supervisors very incompetent. read more

I've been a member of AAA for decades. Although I like their Trip Tiks, Maps, Tour Guide books, and other convenient services which they offer, their so-called roadside assistance, is not always up to par. For example, several years ago, my car would not start. When the AAA tow operator came, he diagnosed the problem, as a battery which needed a charge. In fact, I needed a new fuel pump, which he failed to diagnose. As a result, I became stuck on the road the next day, with a defective fuel pump. When that occurred, a different AAA tow truck operator correctly diagnosed the problem, and towed my car to a repair shop. Unlike the first operator, the second one knew what he was doing. Since I was out of town, I had to leave my car for three days at a local repair facility, rent a car to drive home, and drive back three days later; the latter would have been avoided, if the correct diagnosis had been made to begin with. Recently, my car became disabled on the highway, because the air suspension in the rear, dropped very low to the ground. As a result, it was difficult to control the car, on the highway. I pulled into a rest area, and called the AAA. When the tow operator came, he insisted that I drive my car up a steep incline, to get onto the back of his tow truck. I asked him why he couldn't hoist my car up with cables, as the prior AAA tow operator had done on the road, when my fuel pump went out. He said that he couldn't do so. I told him that my car would not go up that steep ramp, at the rear of his truck. He insisted that I try; sure enough, I heard a sound similar to an obstruction striking the car at the bottom. He told me to forget it, and drive the car about eight miles to a repair facility. He was totally useless, and no help at all. He told me that I should follow him. However, he was driving very fast on the highway, knowing that I couldn't drive that fast, with my lower end too low to the ground. In any event, I made it to the repair facility on my own. When I came home, I complained to the local AAA office. I asked them if they could give me a credit on my next year's membership, for the unprofessional "service", which I received. They apologized, and stated that they would give me "an enhancement", which meant an extra tow call. The fact is, if I don't use their so-called towing service this year, that "enhancement" will not carry over to next year. If they were gentlemen, which they are not, they would have given my $50.00 off next year's membership. People should know that these independent tow truck operators may not be screened by AAA, for criminal background checks. The towing companies could be hiring violent ex-cons, or other deviants to deal with the public. AAA could care less, as their defense is that "the tow truck operators are independent contractors". I may opt not to continue my AAA membership, after it expires at the end of this year. It is too bad if someone becomes stuck out of town, in the middle of nowhere, and one is dependent on a towing service. Incidentally, I don't know who answers the AAA 800 number. While still out of town, I called back AAA back, to check on another tow (which fortunately, I didn't have to use), the operator who came on the line, stated "How may I love you", instead of "How may I help you"! What sort of supervisory personnel do they employ, who permits someone to make such a flippant remark! read more

You just can't make this stuff up. On Sept 7, 2008 AAA replaced the battery in our truck with a battery that has a 36 month *free replacement* warranty. Fast forward 2 years, 11 months & 3 weeks (yup - still under warranty by one week). The battery strands my son. We get AAA to come and the service guy notices some corrosion on the battery terminals. He tells him that the corrosion voids the warranty - no free battery. What a racket! read more

On Sunday, February 23, 2020, at approximately 3 PM, my husband, our seven-year-old daughter, our small dog, and I were driving west on Highway 20 between Williams and Clearlake Oaks California. Our car was going up a hill and shut down. Luckily we were able to get onto the shoulder of the road. There wasn't very much room there and on the other side of the guard rail was a sheer cliff. We turned on our hazard lights. We checked our phones for service, but had none. We were in a dead zone. We weren't sure what to do. My husband finally decided to hitchhike. He caught a ride with a motorcycle to the next town so he could call AAA. My daughter and I stayed behind, not knowing when he would return. When my husband got to the nearest town where he could get cell phone service, about 20 minutes west of us, he called AAA and let them know exactly where we were and they said someone would be coming to get us. The motorcyclist was nice enough to bring my husband back to my daughter and I. Then we began to wait. It became dark. We waited and waited and waited. We saw a total of four AAA tow trucks pass us by during that time. Each time we saw one, we would get excited that it was coming for us, but it would just drive by. A couple other concerned citizens stopped to make sure we were okay. Not once did we see a highway patrol or any type of law-enforcement. After about 4 1/2 hours, one of the tow truck drivers who had passed by once and was passing by a second time, stopped to make sure we were okay. He was not assigned to pick us up, but felt bad for us. He agreed to load up our car and take us to the next town so that we would be safer and have cell service. If it weren't for him, I don't know what we would have done or how long we would have been on the side of the road there. Once we got into the next town, Clearlake Oaks, California, the tow truck driver unloaded us near a gas station and he left. We began calling AAA to see what was going on. We called several times and each time they said that they were trying to find a tow truck to come get us. No truck ever came. Finally, around 11:00 PM, we got a final call from AAA letting us know that they could not find anyone to come get us and that we would have to try again in the morning. We could not believe what we were hearing. Why did we pay for the service if it can't help us when we need it? Luckily, we had blankets, food, and water in our car. It was starting to get very cold and our daughter had fallen asleep. We thought about sleeping in our car all night, but decided to walk to a motel. The next morning, we called AAA and they sent a truck to get us and towed us to our mechanic 124 miles away. I have never been so disappointed in a company. I really feel like canceling my membership because why should I keep it if it does me no good when I really need it? I plan on trying to get reimbursed for my motel fee and the extra miles I had to pay, out of my pocket, beyond 100 miles. read more

Customer service pawns you off repeatedly to anyone but themself. No one wants to take the time to help you. I bought a battery through aaa which is still covered under full warranty and they are doing everything they can to avoid honoring the warranty. I have been passed off half a dozen times in 3 days of trying to get this resolved. Explained my situation 4 different times (I shit you not, FOUR). I've now been passed off again, and as I write this I am currently stuck on a ringing phone that hasn't been answered for 25 minutes. The last guy didn't even say he was transferring me. He just left me in the dust to wonder if I'll waste my life in an endless abyss of being on hold because of their horrific customer service or if he's just screwing with me behind the scenes because he's bored of answering people's questions and actually doing his job. I'm just going to buy a new $200 battery because $200 is worth less than having to deal with these people for one more life questioning, soul sucking minute. read more

We called the service number and were quoted 40 minutes until arrival. No biggie. 40 mins go by and no one has arrived...but that's okay because things happen and it was probably just taking longer than they thought. Then another 40 mins go by. We have been waiting for 2 hours and call the service number to see what the issue is. They quote us 15 minutes. Not 5 minutes after hanging up with the service number, the person that was supposed to come help us out called and said it would be another 40 minutes!!! The amount of time we waited was WAY TOO LONG but also no one called to let us know what was going on...we were just waiting, waiting, and waiting. I would not recommend this service. Maybe I called them during a slow time cause they were fast and efficient. My car wouldn't start and the customer service rep was nice and quickly put a call out to have someone come jump my car. The guy called me a couple of mins after I got off the phone with AAA and was there in less than 15 mins. It was a rainy day in Dallas so I'm surprised he was so quick. Came and jump started my car, told me my battery was bad but my alternator was good. Music to my ears. I told him I just put a new battery in 5-6 months ago from auto zone and he advised me that it was still probably under warranty and to just drive it up there and get a new battery. I did just that and Auto zone had a new battery in my car in 20 mins. I got my car problem resolved in an hour during a gloomy wet day. I called AAA at 7:04 pm on 1/2/18 and was told by their automated system that I would receive a call back in 10 minutes, I called back again at 7:30 pm as I had not received a callback. I was needing a jump start and they were no where to be found. I finally received a call back at 8:37 am on 1/3/18 from Ohio, my membership and myself are in Kansas. Thank heavens for my auto insurance roadside assistance, I called them at 7:31 pm on 1/2/17 and they were at my vehicle at 7:48pm and I was on the road at 8:00pm. read more

OK - I am officially disgusted with AAA. I needed them again this morning as my battery was dead (ding dong left the lights on - which admittedly makes me no smarter than a door knob). However, this is why I purchase emergency road side assistance. I called and was greeted by the usual gum smacking sarcastic customer service who advised me that this would be my last paid for call (who knew you only get to have 4 emergencies in one year - nevermind that two of my tow calls were cancelled due to AAA's issues). She then advised me that my jump would be within two hours. I advised her that I was in fact in the vehicle with no heat in below freezing temps. To which she replied "As I said Mamm, two hours" WTF??? So, I waited and waited and waited and waited. THREE hours later the guy shows up. Now, I have to say, he was fantastic. He told me to wait in his car and warm up while he jump started mine. He was very friendly and nice. As for AAA - they can go, well you know what themselves. Bad customer service, essentially useless since you can only call 4 times a year and just plan frustrating. Ugh. I'm over it. read more

This company has went down hill i have been a gold member for 7 years and needed a tow so i called and they sent a tow truck i specified i needed a cherry picker not a flat bed since my driver side cv joint was broken so they dispatched a company called chicago automotive tow company the guy came in 2 hours and came with yes a flat bed so he sd no i can do it no need for another towtruck he put the car on sum lifts dragging it n its back wheels half way there the car falls off the tow truck damaging my bumper punctured right tire and dented my passenger fender he put it back on the truck dropped it off and left sd sorry man so i called AAA filed a claim and was called twice to set up a visit from the tow company manager after sending pics to AAA and a visit from the manager to confirm i get a call from AAA saying sorry your car was allready like that take us or the tow company to small claims court thanks you good bye talk about professionalism this will be my last year as a memeber .. read more

My mother had a dead battery and had purchased one for $143 the year before, with a 3-year warranty. Within one year, the car could not start, and she was told that the battery now needed to be replaced for another $143 and that the warranty was void because she had driven the car insufficiently. When the first battery was sold to her, no one said anything about the warranty needing a certain number of miles of driving per year, and the warranty description cites no minimum number of miles. It seems to me that a battery should not be destroyed within a year merely from insufficient driving. My recommendation: do not sign up with AAA. read more

This last time was the last time I will ever call AAA again after being told someone was on the way several times I finally changed the tire myself. What a joke of a company. Was in an auto accident on 7/1/14 around 6pm. Called for a tow around 8pm. Told them I had an all-wheel-drive vehicle and would need a flatbed. The truck arrived around 8:30 but was not a flatbed... No big deal, mistakes happen. The guy left and said he'd call another truck. I received a call around 8:45 letting me know they'd be out to tow me at 12:50. 12:50am. I told them this was unacceptable and to try again. He called back about 20 minutes later saying he could bump me up to 12:30. Absurd. I said try again. In the meantime I called the office again to talk with a manager and explain my situation. Spoke to Christy - who was very nice and apologetic - she agreed that this was unacceptable...and then did nothing. I have been a paying customer for nearly 10 years and I finally call on them for help and receive horrible service. I clearly was already not having a good day, but waiting with my wrecked car until 12:30 was about the last thing on earth I wanted to do. I guess my issue is that they accept failure and made no effort to help me. I asked if they would call another tow company for me and cover it, and they flat out refused and said I can do that if I want. The tow arrived at 11:30, so not the full 4 hour wait, but I think 3.5 hours from the initial call is a tad unreasonable... On a happy note, the driver was a very nice and knowledgeable guy, he's just working for a sinking ship. Avoid triple AAA, opt for the Costco equivalent. That's what I'll be doing. read more

Our nightmare with AAA began when we ran out of gas on The Blue Ridge Parkway in NC. We were in our '67 Firebird Convertible and the gas gauge isn't always accurate. The first call to AAA resulted in being disconnected. After 10 mi,urea and no call back, we called again. This time we connected with someone who had no understanding of The Blue Ridge Parkway, so it took almost 20 minutes of explaining before she understood our location. After waiting for over an hour when the ETA given was 37 minutes and after eeadingvthe horrific reviews, we called back only to be told there was no record of us calling and the case number was invalid. We had to give the whole story all over again and were then given an ETA of 45 minutes or less. It has now been over an hour since we last talked to AAA and we are still sitting on the side of the road without assistance. They create unsafe conditions for their customers. I am surprised that lawsuits haven't put them out of business. read more

After that I called 2 more times where they had entered information incorrectly and I had to call the trucking company. Waiting in -30 degree weather, not safe AAA. I have been a AAA member since the early 90's, and their service certainly has declined over the decades. About 6pm yesterday my car stalled while I was driving north on Western Ave. I barely got to the side of the road before the car gave out completely - all the transmission fluid and radiator fluid had leaked out due to something that hit the underside of my car. I called AAA to request a tow, and they said someone would arrive within the "window" of the next 3.5 hours. After 1.5 hours, I called again for an update. They indicated it would now be 4 hours from my initial call, and was now an "estimated time of arrival" rather than a "window of arrival." When the 4 hour mark came and went without a tow truck or a call, I called AAA again. They reported that it would now be another 2.5 hours at a minimum before someone could come. As the initial 3.5 hours now stretched to over 6.5 hours, I finally cancelled the AAA request and called a local tow truck service which arrived in 15 minutes and provided excellent service for $90. Knowing I was stranded in an exposed and vulnerable location on a busy street, AAA should have done a much better job: 1) They should have been more accurate in their initial projection of the time it would take to get service. Had I known at 6pm that it might take 7 hours for them to show up, I would certainly have chosen to find someone else to tow me home. 2) They should have contacted me directly as the delays piled up. Instead, I had to call them to find out. 3) They desperately need to increase the number of available tow trucks in the winter. Their repeated excuse that the "weather is really bad in Chicago today" was lame. It had been sunny and in the mid-30's all day. If that was the cause for such ridiculous miscalculations and delays, I wonder if perhaps they have someone sitting in Georgia or Florida making decisions on how much capacity they need to address roadside assistance demand during a Chicago winter. read more

Called AAA due to a flat tire while in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Waited over 2.5hrs and called in to the call center to get ETA of help, to no avail. After 2.5hrs, I changed the tire myself, in the rain. Called the call center back to let them know I changed the tire and to cancel the service call, and they told me that I had caused them a big inconvenience... Wow. Been a member for 6 years with zero calls for help. Called and cancelled my membership today and ask for a refund for this year's premium, and was notified they don't give refunds, even though they provided me zero service. As far as I am concerned the AAA group is a fraud and thieves- And the overall customer ratings prove it. read more

They just have nasty ladies there the supervisor did not even call me as they promise. People if you can get service some where else do so they have just gotten to be terrible when it come to their customers. I had purchased a Battery for my truck when it died through AAA. They pushed their battery and warranty so we went with it since they had them right there. 2 years later and the battery is dead and under warranty, but they are making up every excuse to not replace the battery. They are making up new terms that are not in writing and citing procedure that makes 0 sense to anyone in the car world. Their dispatchers and customer service have promised over the phone the battery would be covered, only to have a tech some out and not replace it then have the same representative lie and give me attitudes and excuses. The local tow company owner has been nothing but arrogant, even cursing at me. They would rather lose customers then honor their own warranty. Do not buy any products or services from them! Get towed to your own shop of choice and let them touch your vehicle. Dishonest businesses like this have no place in our world! read more

I've had good experiences and bad, but my bad experiences were so outrageous I have really no choice but to give them 2 stars. I've been a member for over 5 years my family more than that. The Chicago auto club has treated us very well over the many years we've used them. Missouri/ southern Illinois though, that's a story. Once, I was stranded due to a blown CV axle, on the side of a 2 lane 55 mph road. AAA argued with me for 3 hours about weather my vehicle could be towed. (Because it was mildly lowered i requested a flatbed truck & removed the bumper covers on the side of the road mind you). They argued that they would have to charge me extra for "special equipment" to tow it, (without ever seeing the vehicle). I finally got towed, after 3 hours of arguing over the phone, and hoping not to get hit by a semi. (Without the special equipment either!) the last time I attempted to use AAA I made my first call @ 2pm, again requested a flat bed because the vehicle was moderately lowered. At 3:30, a flatbed truck drove past us and never stopped. I called back, to request another truck and ask what happened, the driver said "it was too low to tow" (again, never stopped his truck). They sent out another truck, at 4:00, I was told they would send a flatbed truck. At 5:30 a repo style truck arrives. Me and my friend attempt to help the driver get the car on the repo truck. ( while the driver was on the phone with his boss) after a few minutes of realizing that wouldn't work, and again, as I told AAA about 8 times so far, would need a flat bed to be towed. I'm then told by the driver that their flatbed hasn't run in a long time. And he left. I called AAA again, frustrated, but calm. I'm told by the rep, that they will deny to tow me automatically for the next 24 hours for wasting their time. I'm furious at this point and demand to be towed, as I'm a gold RV plus member and have been for a long time, what I was asking for wasn't a lot i felt, but he refused to help me. And also refused to file a complaint on my behalf. I called the Chicago auto club to file complaints about the Missouri club, and was told I'd hear back from AAA. It's been a week and I've heard nothing. Extremely disappointed in the service I've received in Missouri and southern Illinois. read more

Been a member for 50 years. Called today for tow from soft desert area. Tow truck arrived. As I was 200 feet off gravel road but on hard pack he said AAA would only cover 100 feet. He simply would NOT drive the extra 100 feet. Called to AAA Manager. Response was - that's what the regulations state. So they lost a 50 year member because they would not allow the driver to go the extra 100 feet. OBVIOUSLY - canceled membership. read more

Had AAA & never used it. My daughter slid into a ditch so I then renued my membership thinking it would help get her a tow out of the ditch. It happened at 4pm they said that by 6:20 they'd have her car out of ditch. I called every hour after being told "she is next" & "the tow driver is at the destination" & he was not there at all. At 10:20 pm, when I called yet again, I was told then State Police put a ban on towing & they closed the road she was on. Well it isw now 2:00pm the NEXT DAY & still no car & the ban was turned off at 9am! What is the purpose of having AAA? I asked & he said you are given priority. I told him I could have called my own tow service from my town 3 hours away & It would have been quicker & MORE of a priority! My daughter broke down on Route 1 N Saugus last night at 8:30pm and called AAA Southern New England, and was told she had to stay with the vehicle. the tow truck did not arrive for two hours, so she had to sit on the other side of the guard rail for 2 hours, at night, in the dark, UNACCEPTABLE! Do youself a favor and skip the AAA membership and just call a local towing company directly (Gateas in Peabody is awesome), and save yourself from a miserable experience. read more

My wife just called this morning to get the car towed to the dealership. AAA came quickly and took the car, but when he got to the dealer he just left the car in the lot with keys in it. The dealer just called saying they found a car in the lot and ran the VIN# to discover it was ours. I'm usually not very big on posting reviews but I felt its necessary due to the terrible situation I just encountered. I came here to warn anyone who uses the AAA roadside assistance from the auto group at 601 N. Union Ave. My mother was a part of an accident where a woman ran a red light and caused a front end collision with my mothers car and her car just today at 1:30pm. The AAA roadside towing person that was sent was completely rude and snide throughout the whole process. The woman, originally admitted fault for the accident but when he came on site he kept trying to coerce her to say that it was not her fault and lie to the officer. When I told him it was very unprofessional and bad customer service, he tried to cover his mouth and continue coercing in a lower voice. If this is the type of service that is the norm, I wouldn't recommend anyone using this location if you can help it. It was very unprofessional and the exchange made an already difficult situation that much more uncomfortable. read more
