AAA road side assistance is a joke! My car needed a jumpstart so I had to call AAA around 5:30 PM (I was stranded in the parking lot of my workplace, about 30 miles from home). The automated message pointed me to the website link where my exact location was noted and promised to connect me "shortly" to a technician. Then the wait began. Thankfully I had someone help me through. Next day morning 8:00 AM, I get a call from AAA that a technician will be on his way! A good 14.5 hours after I had called for assistance! I have been using AAA for nearly 2 decades now and it has become worse. Last year I had my brand new sport car towed (2022 Toyota Supra). Tow truck drive took 2hours to get there, was super hyped up to talk about my car but left me hanging due to dispatch inputting the wrong town for the destination. Driver took off in a hurry. Had to wait 2 additional hours for another tow truck to tow the car. 3 days ago(4/1/23) I need to tow my old school car due to a transmission leak. Waited 3 hours and no one showed up at all. Waited and called repeated and dispatcher could not get a hold of anyone. So now I'm stuck. Tried again last night (4/3/23) Waited 2 hours and still no show. So my question to Triple A is: what do I have the membership for if now I have to tow my own car??? As I write this review, my car is still sitting there in the same location when I called for a tow 3 days ago. What if I were stuck in the middle of no where? If you have to make a call in Chicago make sure to request that they do NOT send the call to On The Spot Road Service (one of their contractors). I waited THREE hours for tire air only for them to never show up. AAA couldn't even get a hold of the driver to get an update when they missed the arrival window and had to contact the dispatcher. Horrible service. First call was around 6:20 am on a Saturday morning. We were out by Bartlet lake Horeshoe Dam rd. The weather was hot in the desert it was suppose to get to 106 degrees. The person on the phone said they would be to us in 1 hour. Called back at 1 1/2 hours was told they wrote down wrong information they will be there in 1 hour. A sheriff's car tells us they called him not us to report they won't tow from the dirt road. This was a wide well maintained service road. No problem we moved the truck to the asphalt road called them. The next operator tells me the notes are wrong she corrects them and says 1 hour. They will call me back with info. I wait another hour and call them use the automated system since they can't get my info correct. It says they are 6 minutes away. 1 hour later I call and they tell me they can't find a tow truck in the state if AZ. This is 6 hours after the 1 st call. What? I ask for a Supervisor says I should call and get a tow and apply to have them reimburse us. Dogs barking in the background. I said so your telling me AAA will cover it with the receipt. He says no you can apply and it shows we've tried. He also says that they may have someone in 3-4 hrs they will call me. I say ok knowing full well I have been lied to all day. 7 phone calls and they can't get us a tow. They never called us. We called insurance company and they came with the nicest man. When I got home I had Facebook messages from 2 towing companies that were in cavecreek the closest town maybe 10 miles from us. AAA never had contacted either of these companies. I was told that they hear this all the time. I'm a premier member of AAA free towing for 200 miles we were 40 miles from home. This is crap. Why have a service that lies. I've had AAA for many years and I have a big family who has their service. We get it for trips thank God we weren't stuck between here and CA in the desert. Being at Bartlet Lake area was far enough. Don't trust AAA they won't send help their operators can't take directions properly and they say 1 hour automated system says 6 minutes. Supervisor says..... all lies no tow truck no calls back. I'm only giving 1 star because you have to star. They deserve no stars. I'm embarrassed I have recommended them in the past. A few years ago I used them to tow our car into the shop and the driver told me they only pay $15 to the towing co. I guess this is maybe why. At least they showed up that time. Picture this. I'm blocking traffic because my car shut off while I was driving. I immediately call triple AAA and it takes about an hour to get to the bottom of my membership status due to being transferred from department to department (with a 15 min hold time each time). When it's all settled they send me a text and say they will have a driver to my location in 2 hours. I wait for 2 hours in a freezing car only to get another call from a confused tow truck driver saying he is another 2 hours away and he can't fathom why AAA didn't find another tow truck driver for me, instead of him. (The tow truck driver was great but doesn't work for TripleA.) I broke down at 4:10 and my tow truck driver right show up until 8:30 or 8:45. Don't use AAA. read more

Car tires suffered a bad case of dry rot and lost 2 tires because of it--one running on a donut, the other flat. Had an appointment for 4 new tires and AAA did a fantastic job getting my car towed in addition to providing a ride to the dealership at Star Nissan. Got to the appointment 10 minutes early, perfect timing. Mind you this was in the parking lot of my condominium, not even a real roadside emergency and still made way to get it done. If I could give AAA zero stars, I would. We have had a membership for a few years and have used their assistance once. My battery was dead and they sent someone from Hawks Towing in Glenview to jump it. He supposedly jump the battery but then the car wouldn't run after he left and I had to have the car towed by someone else to Toyota. The Toyota service department said that the person who jumped the battery completely fried the computer which costs us almost $2400. AAA was slow to respond to any of our communication about it and then decided they were not responsible. Hawks Towing also decided they were not responsible. AAA is a waste of money read more

At least twice AAA sent out the wrong truck. A few weeks ago the battery went dead (due to alternator failure) on my SUV, while I was driving with two other passengers. My wife called AAA and a wrecker arrived, but was only authorized to repair a flat tire, for some reason. Even if AAA had completed the work order right, the driver couldn't tow us across state lines as we wanted, especially after it got dark, due to licensing and a faulty headlight. AAA eventually sent another wrecker that towed our SUV the 120 miles from Ohio to a shop near our relatives in Michigan, but couldn't carry the 3 of us, since 2 men came with the wrecker, and it only had 2 seats. We ended up having my son come down and fetch us all, costing 4 more hours, and whatever gasoline it took. Bottom line: When you finally get thru to AAA, say clearly and frequently you need a tow truck and for what distance. Also say clearly and frequently that you have so many passengers that need to ride in the tow truck. Another time, a few years ago, our car would crank and crank but not start running, due to a faulty shaft sensor. AAA sent out a pickup truck with jumper cables. Like the recent story above, we had to wait for a tow truck to arrive and haul our car to a local shop to be diagnosed and repaired. We'll be switching to Gieco (our insurance company) Road Side Assistance, when our AAA membership expires. read more

We flagged down a random tow truck and paid CASH for them to change the tire. This mri invite around 7am someone from a tow company started calling me saying they were in their way. I never answered. I was at home with my car asleep. I NEVER received service! I am LIVID!! I pay a lot of money for this service and how dare you not show up! We were not even in a safe location! I was left stranded for up to 3 days. Reps continued to place me on hold. Al I asked for was a tow from Guernee IL. to Libertyville Illinois. After speaking to other tow companies, they advised not to rely on AAA. The company's are low balled. AAA cares more about saving money than taking care of customers. I couldn't believe I was on hold for 3 consecutive days with only a "Sorry for the wait, we will send someone ASAP " Yeah, Right! Illinois AAA IS THE MOST WORTHLESS INVESTMENT ANYONE COULD EVERI VEST IN! I hope AAA Insurance is not like that! I pity anyone stranded in Illinois and relying on AAA Road Service! I've been a AAA member for over ten years and recently found out that all those years of paying the membership fee was totally worthless. On 6/26/22 I ran out of gas and contact AAA via there chat service for what I thought would be a simple gas delivery service. Made the request a little after 8pm. I received a notification that they would arrive around 9:02 pm. Waited and waited and at 9:30pm I followed up to get status since no one had arrived. The status update said the revised arrival time was now 11:52PM !!! I attempted to reach them by phone. Was waiting on hold for 45 minutes until I just gave up and hung up. I wound up having to walk to a gas station, buying a gas can and some gas on my own to put some gas in my car to eventually get home. I finally got a call from a AAA service provider at 1:10AM!!! Of course, I told them that I no longer needed the service. If you're looking for reliable roadside assistance, do yourself a favor and look somewhere else. Goodbye AAA! Update: Evidently, I'm not the only one that's not satisfied with AAA's level of service. Here's a review from the "Top Consumer Review" website: Poor customer satisfaction- The biggest shocker to us about AAA is that they receive an "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau because they haven't responded to over 75 complaints made about them. Many of these are not resolved and they have a long list of unhappy customers wanting compensation for services they feel they paid for and did not receive. Customer reports online all sing a similar song of anger toward the company being slow to pay out claims, tow trucks taking hours to show up or being cancelled altogether, difficulties with customer service, and more. I called AAA at 1:13 today 3 /2 for a tow truck I was told someone would be there within an hour I explained we were on a busy street with three lanes on a corner she said I'll mark it Rush. 3 x's I called back saying what's going on it's over an hour. oh they just left they will be there shortly. I also got texts saying they were on their way. But no one came I actually got a text saying they should be there you should see them. I replied no one is here. They arrived at 3:17 we waited 2 hours and 4 minutes I'm on a very busy street and a bus almost hit my car. cars went so fast by me so close my car shook. My husband had to go to the bathroom and had to go across six Lanes of car's to get to a place to go. We have been Premier Members with two memberships for over 20 years I'm canceling them and I don't ever want to use them again. read more

I called at 12pm for a tow truck I was told one would be to me in 25 minutes. Then they didn't show. An hour later I called AAA for them to tell me I'm still on the list. Another hour later I'm still waiting in 30° weather with a car I couldn't start because of overheating and my child with me. I called AAA again to ask what company is coming to me so I can call them for a time estimate. They told me B&B towing is coming I know all about B&B my ex husband worked for them and left there because the workers are always drunk. I called B&B and the man that answered was incoherent slurring words how unprofessional is that. I told him 3 times I couldn't understand him he then slurred again and said they are coming now and mumbled some stuff and hung up on me. Okay so I waited another 1.5 hours and they still didn't come when I called they answered and hung up on me. I called back and they hung up again. I called AAA and told the lady they wouldn't answer me and the man who answered sounded drunk and that they still haven't come at this point it started getting colder I had to call someone to get my son Walgreens had no where for us to sit inside and my kid wouldn't behave in there and wanted to go home I had no money in me to get him lunch we were hungry and cold. AAA then said they were going to call B&B I told her they wouldn't answer me she said "they will answer my call" I was on hold for a while she then came back and apologized and said another company was contacted and they are on their way. They asked if I could leave the car and keys so I did cause I had to get to my son and my ride that came to rescue him had to leave soon. The driver of the new company called me and said he will be at my car in 5 mins when I said they should have called you first and that the first company had me waiting for over 3 hours to not show up. The new driver said that was not right of that company when they dropped of my car they asked what company was supposed to come when I said B&B they even said "I don't know why AAA uses them they are known for drinking on the job and not showing up many people have stopped using them" I should have not been waiting for over 3 hours for a tow I understand I needed a tow an hour away but if they came to me at the original call time they would have been back to mchenry way before 3pm. If they didn't want to tow me that far they shouldn't have accepted the request. I have had AAA since 2009 I have never had this issue my father is the account holder he has had this account for so long he's unhappy with my service. I'm upset I had to sit in the cold with my child for hours for B&B to blow me off. I constantly heard there are high called in my area. I suggest looking into B&B don't work with them they are drunk on the job what would happen if they took my car and passed out drunk driving it down to melrose park what if they crashed with my car what would have happened. Be cautious of who AAA sends to you if they are not AAA themselves and are sending out a contracted company find out first who is coming and make sure they are a reliable company. I purchased AAA for my children. My son has tried to use the twice and they never show up. The most recent time was tonight when he needed roadside assistance while visiting Chicago. He called AAA at 8:00pm and they said they would send someone ASAP. He called back at 9:00pm and they said give them 1/2 hour to get there. He called again at 9:45pm and they told him it was a mistake in their system and they couldn't get there until 12:30am. I was able to make different arrangements to get him and the vehicle home safely with someone that was able to get there in actually an 1/2hr as promised. What's the point of having roadside assistance if you cannot receive roadside assistance! I have the Premier Membership, I can only imagine how bad people with the lesser packages are treated. A few minutes later she got a call back saying the contracted tow company they dispatched REFUSED to go help. Told her they would call another tow company. NOBODY EVER SHOWED UP. DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN. The worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life, including discrimination!!!! Since 5pm in the afternoon we tried having someone to tow my sisters car, specifically said that she doesn't speak English, they assured me they would be helping her in Spanish or Portuguese. 2 hours later the driver call her being super disrespectful because he couldn't find her car (even though someone told me on the phone they had her exactly location already), and after she tried to communicate with her poor English, he lost his patience and CANCELED the ride. 4 hours later when my dad got to the location, the driver told us they couldn't take them BECAUSE THEY HAD A BABY IN THE CAR. what ARE WE SUPPOSED to do?! LEAVE THE KID BEHIND SO YOU CAN HELP ME WITH MY CAR? Well, we took care of that, we called an Uber for my sister and the baby. Now my father is at the same location, the VERY RUDE Lian (I don't know if that's the driver) told me on the phone that this issue is going on since 5pm and that they couldn't find the car, and they couldn't Communicate with my family because they don't understand English, and let me tell you, he was YELLING at me on the phone!!! ITS NOW 11:55pm and when I call asking for am time estimate, they don't even have a driver schedule to go and they don't have an idea on what time they will be able to do so. I have been a AAA member in a variety of states for over 20years now. (It seems each state has its own "club".) This current year will bey last. They have changed the policies so that you cannot utilize full benefits of your membership for the first 2-4 weeks of renewing/joining. Why? No idea. I cannot use what I've paid for???? Ridiculous! In addition, I was told I'd have my new membership card within 2 weeks. It's been 3 weeks - no card. I call to check status. Member "services" had NO idea if the card had even been mailed yet.
