I have been a fan of Aahar for the past 2.5 years, and it's quite sad to see the severe deterioration in quality. Initial the food was extremely flavorful, I could say it was authentic and easily amongst the best South Indian restaurants anywhere. This was 2020. I can't say if they changed the cook, or changed the flavor to suit the palate of folks who limit their spice list to salt and pepper. The pros : people are very nice, helpful and service is fast. The cons: so many.. the food is just not good anymore. Everything has toddler-level spice aka .. flavorless. The sambar was awful - flavorless completely. The green chutney is very minty, and too salty. The dosa is still good, the masala has not an ounce of spice it in. The aviyal was way too salty. Onion masala dosa was literally masala dosa sprinkled with onions. That's just very lazy, I'm sorry to say. Fried idly was a ghastly mess of too much oil or ghee, could barely recognize the dish. Returned after about 5 years. Had previously worked nearby and visited regularly. Still as good as I remember. Good professional service, though, I forgot that a gentleman offered complimentary soup [small portion] for all guests while waiting to order or eat. When he asks, "soup?," say 'yes please.' Food still superior to other Indian restaurants and very reasonably priced. Good portions. We had two breads and two entrées for three people and have enough for another 3-person meal. Very tasty. Ok, I'm a fan! After a very fun little hike at Snoqualmie Falls where its cold and damp, something spicy was definitely needed afterwards! Not too far from the falls. Maybe about 10 min. This place was recommended by a friend. He said its the closest thing he can find that tastes like home for him. I wanted authentic, so he took me somewhere authentic. Everywhere I go, I always ask for recommendations. Waiter said to try the mutton, and I did. :) The spice was rated from 1 through 5 and I did a 3. Even with a 3 was a bit spicy! It was still delectable though! I got it with the basmati rice and some chai tea. YUM! I had my friend try some and he about died! He said he felt like he was home. So, I am now a fan of Indian food! I've traveled through most of India and over the years (lucky to have) lived in many places around the world. While abroad, I always looked for the food that reminded me of home. This place is something that does just that. Authentic is an understatement! We now live in BC and while we've eaten out many times in Vancouver and Surrey, Aahaar in little know Snoqualmie WA is better than any we have been to in BC. A reporter once wrote Aahaar was Seattle's best kept secret. I'd say it's WA's best kept secret! The food and it's flavors are not changed in anyway. It's made to give you a true taste of South India. The hosts are gracious and the staff most friendly. The restaurant is clean, bright and tastefully decorated. A story to share: Years ago, during a basketball trip to IIT Madras I still remember eating parothas from the street vendors. The parothas were something I always longed for since then. I found them here at Aahaar! Other notables or "must order": Rasam Wayanad chicken Chicken varuval Idlis and a sada dosa. We have tried Aahaar many times before COVID and their food used to taste very good. But today we visited after a very long time and highly disappointed with the quality and taste of food. Naan looked and tasted like store bought ones -not at all good. My husband felt the fish fry also did not taste as it used to before. Will not come back if the quality continues to be this way. I may have considered giving it a higher rating if we had some what decent service. The food was good, but nothing to write home about...although maybe I may say something different had we had a chance to actually chew and taste our food if we weren't hurried out by the servers. It was quite an annoying dining experience to be honest. Four of us were dining and were approached by at least 3 different servers on multiple occasions asking if we were done eating. Finally they gave up asking and just delivered our bill. I understand the place is busy but we were not there for an extended amount of time and that is no way to treat your customers. Meh!!!! I am proud to finally be able to identify my favorite type of Indian cuisine and it happens to be South Indian cuisine. I've yet to visit India but I've had the best ones in Malaysia, Singapore, NYC, Bay Area etc. I love the spice, the sourness and all that aroma boasting out of my plates. Ambiance~ it's pretty, clean and cozy. Food~ Since it's my first time and I love this cuisine, my friends basically ordered almost everything on the menu for me. Well, seafood anyways :) Who cares about the rest! Service~ fast & swift. No chit chat or small talk in such busy hour. Pros: Fried fish! So good, we had it twice. Mutton curry~ mild flavors ( guess they can tell I'm not Indian!) Asked for a side of fresh peppers and it was fine. Appetizers~ we had chicken lollipop and white shaved noodle like things. They were both fine. Pepper prawns~ a little too peppery for me. I love spice but not that black pepper burn. Cons: Goan fish curry~ epic fail dude! If I could I'd give them 7 stars... And I'm not usually generous with my stars on reviews.... This was by far the best Indian(Malabar) food I have eaten in the USA. They started us off with bowls of rasam as we entered which were so divine that we immediately asked for more. The warmest welcome I have seen in any Indian restaurant, period. The owner himself took care of us throughout the meal and I have not met a nicer owner ever. We started off with the "curried chicken lollipops" which were so unique and delicious that I was hungry for more. Then came the "kerala fried fish" which was one of the most delicious fried trouts ever. It was so perfectly cooked, amazingly seasoned, strong malabar flavors but not spicy. Right then I was in heaven. We also tried the idlis which were very nice and authentic with 2 chutneys and sambar. For entrees we had the "chettinad chicken" and the "malabar mutton korma" along with "malabar parotas". The chicken was some one the best chettinad I've eaten including the real deal back in India. My mouth waters thinking about it as I write this review. The mutton was unique and flavorful and the parotas were authentic and took me back home. For dessert we split "The AAHAAR Special" 5 ways. It is basically Badam Halwa, Beets Halwa, Carrot Halwa, 2 scoops Vanilla ice-cream and warm sweet bananas. I am not usually a fan of halwas but this dish changed my thinking. The carrot and badam halwa were nice as were the bananas but the star of the show was the extremely unique beetroot halwa. I've never eaten anything like it and I wish I had tried this 25 years ago. Overall some of the best food, nicest and most friendly owner and staff and authentic malabar flavors. I'd surely be going here over and over again despite being 45 minuts drive from Seattle. We live in Olympia and good South Indian food is not to be found here. Driving to Aahaar's is worth the drive. Beautiful, flavoured just right, great selection on menu and good portions. We always get the spinach pakora, dosas, idli and vada, then move on to chicken biryani, Chettinad pepper chicken and garlic chicken curry. They don't ask you how spicy you want it. You get it now or should be served. If it's too spicy, ask for raitha to cool down the spice. Very small area for dining, expect to wait on weekends. read more

Oh such fantastic, authentic Indian food! The complimentary rasam was spiced to perfection. Majjige was a very refreshing drink to have first up. Chilled buttermilk with cumin, cilantro. Next up was thair vada and medu vada. One dunked in spiced yoghurt and the other perfectly crispy. Had Malabari paratha and mutton varuthakari. Both were a first for me. The mutton - spicy and delicious (and a huge portion). The paratha was the perfect accompaniment - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and not too oily either. Lastly had moksha for dessert - combination of warm badam halwa and ice-cream. Now have to make plans to go again. If only it were not 3 hr drive away from home. read more

My coworker recommended this place to me and my bf's ex took him here a couple times. That said, this place is pretty authentic. (Coworker and the Ex are both Indians) For people who doesn't eat spicy food at all, some of the dishes can be spicy for them. But, the spice in the food definitely highlight their food. Between 2 of us, we had mongo lassi, spinach dosa, Kerala fried fish, butter chicken, and an order of naan, plus, complimentary soup. Staff are friendly. They checked on customers very frequently. Seattle to Snoqualmie is a pretty long drive. Heading to Aahar for a meal makes the drive totally worth it (fine! it's a beautiful drive too). Every single time we've been here, there's been a bunch of people waiting for a table. We, surprisingly, haven't had that experience since it's always been (less than or equal to) 4 people in the group. Well, good for us, I guess. Given how busy the place is, I'd call the service amazing. They bring you a warm bowl of rasam at get go, which is a nice touch. We got the chennai chicken, which was spicy crispy good-ness. The masala dosa was quite good, served with a side of sambar, coconut chutney and a spicy sauce. The mutton varuthakari was so amazing with the Malabar parotta, although most might find the mutton dish on the spicier side. So beware. All in all, the food is a solid 4.5. A (heavy) meal for 2 would be around $40 tops. The space is a little cramped and you find yourself overhearing people unless you try really really hard not to. Something to be aware of. Went for lunch here. Wife got a dosa and I got a biryani. The staff is courteous and the food is good. The complementary rasam (soup) is delicious. The dosa is decent in taste and nothing much to talk about it either ways. The biryani is tasty, but the style is southern Indian (like a Tamil / Kannada style) not the Hyderabadi style. Finally a great south indian eatery! I had heard a ton about it from my foodie south indian friends and decided to make the road trip. It really is a roadtrip all the way to snoqualmie but it was more than worth it. We made it in time for lunch, hungry and well almost starving. The place was full but not too crowded and we were able to place order immediately. The items arrived one by one and each of them top quality and delicious. I can personally vouch for the following: 1. Mysore Dosa 2. Kerala fish curry 3. Idlis 4. malabar paranthas 5. dessert sampler especially the halvas :) The hosts were a bit uncoordinated but very polite and happy to feed us. Overall - great experience. "I haven't had such good fish curry in Bombay also." - My Dad I love their Kerala Fried Fish (sometimes has come out slightly over cooked) and their Goan Fish Curry. Even all their other curries are really good, not super greasy and oily like 90% of the other Indian Restaurants around the Seattle Area. Visited Aahaar for their onam special lunch. Onam is festival in Kerala and one of the highlights is the onam Sadya which is a combination of varieties of dishes. The special lunch was amazing and all their 22 dishes on the plate were delicious and authentic. I am glad we have Aahaar in Seattle. read more

This place is an absolute gem, and I hit it every time I'm around Snoqualmie. It's got a bunch of vegetarian options, which I'm a big fan of. The sambar and idli is super solid. I've been getting the dal makhani literally every time, and though the rest of the menu also looks amazing, it's so good that I can't switch it up. Just as a heads up, this place is pretty spicy. Edit: while eating leftovers the next day, my brother found a small piece of metal in one of the dishes :( Ordered to go shortly after opening and was told 30 minutes. When we got there, the restaurant was empty, but it is COVID time. Masala Fried Idli: really liked this appetizer, looks like breakfast potatoes but the rice cakes have a crunchy outside and soft center. The onions and lemon wedge also help add lots of flavor. Cheese Masala Dosa: while I didn't find the cheese too good in the dosa, I liked the items included for dipping. I think next time I would try a more plain dosa. Kaikari Kurma: really delicious sweet flavored vegetable dish. Lots of delicious coconut flavor. Mysore Koli: chicken in a reddish gravy. Lots of flavor and decent amount of chicken chunks. Mutton Biriyani: rice did seem a little oily and it could use a little more meat for the price, but otherwise tasted really good. Poori: fried bread, who doesn't love that? It was a nice change from the usual naan. I used the dosa toppings on it. There are two concerns that might have brought my review to 4 stars. 1. Prices. It is a little expensive, but not terrible for other similar places. 2. Spice level. I don't mind spice but my family does. Because of that, we only ordered items listed without the spice warning. We still found everything had a bit of spice. I would describe it as a tingle, but my brother said his mouth was burning. A lot of other reviews had a similar concern. Sorry for no photos. This place got me into Indian food. I really enjoy this place. They always seem to be busy, but I've never had to wait long to get a seat. I recommend the house soup. It's so good. Best south Indian food I ever had. Loved the Majjige, pomfret curry, mutton biryani and madras coffee. They know how to turn up the heat while keeping it flavorful unlike north Indian restaurants that just throw more red chilli powder on mild curry. Try the majjige (spicy buttermilk). Delicious! Could use better presentation since the taste is so authentic. Comes in a plastic cup with a straw. The madras coffee should be in a steel or glass cup and all the food should be in steel containers. Other than the presentation it is as authentic as it gets. As other Yelpers have mentioned, even though it was crowded at lunch time, its well worth the wait. This is the best Indian restaurant in and around Seattle. The most authentic South Indian cuisine. Love the rasam soup they give as complimentary. Aahaar stays true to authentic Southern Indian food, which is a refreshing and different to most Americanized northern Indian restaurants that serve Tandoor and other common dishes. We root for local eateries, especially unique ones like Aahaar. Food here is average. One thing that really bothered us was the male owner or hostess because of how awkward he was with people. Especially with children!! We ordered the kids meals which are supposed to have no spice, but the food came spicy. Even after sending the food back two times, they still brought out spicy food. As an adult, spice doesn't bother me,but for a 5 year old, they thought it was a volcano in their mouth. Even though three of my kids didn't eat any of the food,they still charged us for it. The female owner is super nice and down to earth, but everyone else that works there is odd, awkward, and can be hard to understand. They have very high prices here for the food that you receive. The best tasting dish I had here was was the eggplant ennagai. It was a spicy peanut tasting dish that left me wanting more. The chicken, and other dishes, come with mostly sauce and only a couple pieces of protein. Plus, you will be shocked by the price of these dishes! The malabar parotta bread is tasty, but it is overpriced and expensive. During the evenings, and on weekends, there are waves of Indian people waiting to get in or sitting outside. For us, the business is oddly run and leaves a cautionary feeling every time we go there. If I have a taste for eggplant ennagai or malabar parotta I will order take out going forward, but I don't think we will go back as a family. Nice little indian place in the downtown area of Snoqualmie. Parking is plentiful in and around the area. We were promptly seated and served the complimentary 'soup' which is similar to daal or sambhar but a much lighter version of it. We ordered a aahaar Dosa and paneer makhani which comes with a modest serving of basmati rice. For breads we got the paratha but they left much to be desired. Too bad this place doesn't serve naan. The entrees were made fresh and arrived hot. Spice level is medium across the board and it appears you can't request spicy even if you wanted to. Service was quick and attentive.
