I normally don't write reviews but in this case I had to. I recently messed up my gear shifter by trying to disassemble it. Eventually it got to the point that I could not get my truck out of park. After consulting my owners manual I figured out how to get it out of park on an emergency basis which allowed me to drive it, but I couldn't shift it back into park. This meant I could not remove the key. I had to put it in neutral and use the emergency brake whenever I turned it off. I drove it to this AAMCO in Carson City, and Joe the manager came out to help me even though I did not have an appt. Although it was not possible to fix it completely because I need a new part, he got me back on the road, and to the point where I could use all my gears and get the key out when I needed to. My experience with this business has prompted me to give it a great recommendation. read more

Avoid at all costs. Bill was $2777.11, $465.28 was likely an unnecessary repair that created a plugged carburetor which will cost more than $500 to fix. Offered them the opportunity to repair the carburetor and Woody refused. The details: Drove rv from Reno to Carson, no problems. She is a vintage Travco 440 (Grettle) so you don't go up hills with less than 1/4 tank as the fuel sloshes to the back of the tank. Transmission rebuild was complete so the tech took it on a ride, up hill. Apparently he didn't have enough gas so guess what happened? Yep, but this guy decided it needed a new fuel pump and filter. When charging $119/hr the tech should know where to install a fuel filter-not this guy. He installed it inline to the generator instead of engine. Even worse, took him 3 hours (husband says it shouldn't take more than 1 hour). When we picked up Grettle, we had no idea we were in for an exciting ride home. After gassing her up we started home. On the hill coming north from Carson she began to sputter and a big black smoke came out. Hubbie couldn't lock her into 1st gear; says shifter cable is out of adjustment. He limped her through washoe valley and toward home but she wasn't freeway worthy so he went through town. Why he took the Wells overpass I will never know but the engine totally cut out just as he crested the top. With vacuum assisted brakes, no engine =no brakes. It was an exciting ride down where eventually he pulled her off to the side to get her restarted. Thankfully we didn't hit anyone and no one hit us. Hubbie had to call them to find out where they installed the filter; back of the coach inline to the generator. Hubbie performed an engine compression test, everything 105-110 psi. Definitely a plugged carburetor due to no fuel filter inline to the engine. Called to have them repair the issue they caused and Woody let us know we were on our own. For now, I will be sleeping in the dog house as I insisted we have a shop do this repair because the hubbie has too many projects. Good Grief! read more

I brought my car in for what I thought was a transmission problem. And it turned out that the transmission was fine and the problem was that a fuse had burned out. They replaced the fuse and the car was fIne. They did not charge me anything for this. The staff was very efficient and friendly. They now have a customer for life. I took my car into them because I was having transmission problems (I couldn't put my car in reverse) they checked my car and then qouted me at a little over $4000 to have my whole transmission replaced because it was damaged and that the new transmission wouldn't be as good as the original. They told me I would have to leave it with them for a few weeks while they worked on it .They then wanted me to apply for a loan so I could get itp done. I took my car to another mechanic in town that a family member recommend for a second opinion (Unfortunately he passes away recently) but he took a look at it told me that one of the chains broke and he could fix it in a day. He did he got the part fixed it and charged me $80 and my transmission is still running well to this day. I will never go back to Aamco again. read more

My transmission "slipped" when coming down 50 into Carson City. When I got into town, the dashboard lights were flashing and the car "lurched" when starting. This was on a Friday afternoon. The Subaru dealer was booked out over a week and said they couldn't even do the diagnostic until that Wednesday. We were supposed to leave Sunday. I called AAMCO and Carl said bring it in right away and we can look at it. He did an initial inspection and determined that a full diagnostic was required. He told me that the transmission was in a "failsafe" mode I later learned Subaru calls "limp mode". They did not have the time to do it since it is a two hour test and they don't work on weekends. I ended up dropping the car off Monday morning they looked at it right away and in a couple hours told me what was wrong, that they could fix it as soon as the part came in. They got the part late that day so had to finish the test drive on a Tuesday. I picked it up on Tuesday morning and drove it over 200 miles, some through mountains, back home. I want to thank Carl for the excellent service. The car was even parked in the shade when I went to pick it up. It was a valve body issue and was expensive, but probably not as expensive as it would have been at the dealer (if they even could have gotten me in). The oil change for my F250 diesel truck cost $250.00! I was told the oil I requested was very expensive, ie $14/qt. I later learned it was $14/gallon. The cost at several other shops by comparison would have been in the area of $150. read more

Wow. These guys really helped me out!!! My Transmission went out on my home from work. I got ahold of "Woddy" at the local Aamco in Carson City, NV. He stayed open late for Me, so I could drop off my SUV. The crew were able to find and fix my Transmission in a good time. So I was able to get back to work in Lake Tahoe. Took the van into AAMCO Carson City because the transmission was acting up and I suspected that it would probably need replaced. I was hoping that if that was the case, to at least get a full flush to get a few more miles out of it. Woody quickly diagnosed the problem, called me and let me know that there were serious problems with the tranny and that it should be replaced. He said not to worry about the flush, it wouldn't do any good and he didn't want to charge me for something I wouldn't need. These guys are good, and they have been doing it for a long time. The guys here at the Carson City AAMCO were awesome, they helped me through a tranny problem without trying to sell me a new tranny. I really appreciate their professionalism and taking the time they spent educating me on my converted CJ7. They inspected the transmission and gear box and did a test ride to determine that the slight noise I was hear shifting into 3rd gear wasn't serious enough to tear into it at this stage. They suggested I monitored and if it persists or worsens then we can take the more aggressive option. I really appreciate the honesty and not tearing into it costing me a lot of money out the gate. They did all this without charging me a dime..... I will definitely use them in the future. I did schedule for them to fix a rear differential leak that I was quoted over $700 to fix at another shop and they quoted me a quarter that amount. read more

The end of January, I took my Acadia to Amco in Carson city when transmission started acting up while I was visiting the area. The gentleman was pretty grumpy but that's besides the point. He told me there was nothing wrong with my transmission but possibly my spark plugs need replaced. I paid him over $100 for the transmission test. I had taken my car to an auto shop. They told me I had a transmission leak and recommended I take my car to a transmission specialist to have it fixed. These guys are really cool; really nice; and very honest. They were able to see my car right away. When I got there, they offered to give me a ride home while they worked on my car. I didn't ask or expect it; and its not even an official service they provide. I am a pretty busy guy. My weekends are precious to me; I don't like to waste it sitting around the shop. I really appreciated it. It turned out that I didn't have a leak in my transmission after all. The cap simply was not tightened very well. They could have totally ripped me off, but they didn't. They didn't even charge me for the inspection. Wow!!! I will be going to these guys again for all of transmission needs in the future! read more

I was blown away by their lack of customer service. I stopped by on my way home after experiencing what I believe to be transmission problems with my car. I asked if they could check my fluid as it appeared to me to be a little low. I explained the problem and they said they would look at it. After waiting nearly 30 minutes, the guy up front came to me and said it is nearly 12 and my guys are going to lunch. I asked them what time lunch ends and he said 1:30. I then asked again if someone could just quickly check my fluid and the man responded they were too busy. Do not waste your time here as they will end up wasting your time. read more

I brought my Nissan Frontier in for their free transmission inspection and was surprised how thorough they were , they even dropped the pan to check for metal / parts . The only issue I had is that they could not give me a solid quote for transmission and labor , gave me a $700.00 range in price, I'm sure they no their labor cost and priced the transmission while I was there, so what is the issue ? read more

Transmission work did not last the full 90 day warranty period. They replaced it with another used transmission at no charge but that will not be covered by any warranty. Money would have been better spent on a new transmission. read more
