In addition, unlike many other inspectors, he is an engineer and was able to provide guidance on structural matters (which fortunately was fine). He produced a 168 page report the following day (with lots of pictures), which also included a summary. We found him very knowledgeable and helpful, and highly recommend him.

Abe and Nick check every nook and cranny (crawlspaces, roofs, attics) They arrived on time and spent over 3 hours combing through the property. Abe uses his drone to check the roof. He even has a "back-up drone" just in case his high-tech drone fails for whatever reason. He is fully prepared for your inspection. He is able to explain complex issues clearly in layman's terms, or in our case, "first time home buyers" terms. He patiently answered our questions. His home inspection report is concise and easy to understand. This cannot be overstated. It includes a "Table of Contents" which makes everything easy to find. The report does not lack detail. It is well organized with very clear pictures. This helped us to negotiate repairs and buy in confidence. One of my best friends is currently house hunting. Her husband is a surgeon. She is worried that he might not be able to attend the home inspection. I immediately referred her to Abe and assured her that she would be in good hands. Over the phone, he was able to answer all of my queries and gave me a quick run-down of all the different services they provide and an accurate quote for an inspection on the house. He was also able to answer all of my "what-if" questions and ease my nerves by giving me a step-by-step on what to expect. Although my window for inspection was only 7 days, he was also able to squeeze me in for an inspection and got me my report within 3 days! I'm super grateful for that. On the day of the inspection, Abe and Nick let me join in on the process and even encouraged me to take my own notes. Neil actually called from South Carolina to make sure that my needs were met. They even arranged for an exterminator service to meet us to do a termite inspection. I had to pay them separately, but Scott and Scott made all the arrangements on my behalf. Neil M. was the person who actually did the inspection. Our appointment was for 8:30am. I arrived exactly at 8:30 only to find that Neil had been there for a while and already completed his inspection of the exterior and the grounds. He took time to go over everything he saw with me. I thought it was going to be a generic overview, but there were so many details that he found I could barely remember some of them. Thank goodness for the detailed report (more on that later). Once inside he meticulously went through every visible corner and space, giving me the lo-down as we went. He made it very clear what his responsibilities were and anything that he could not comment directly on he gave a recommendation for a specialist that could provide more details or even give a professional evaluation. Nothing was overlooked. He even recognized repaired wood vs original undamaged wood. I was very impressed. Neil was very thorough. He tested every outlet, every light switch, every faucet, every window, every door, and he turned on every appliance and let them run for a while to test the functionality. He crawled into the fireplace to look both up and down. He bravely went through every inch of the attic. The whole time he was explaining everything he was seeing. I'm surprised he didn't need a drink of water after. Regularly he would ask if I had any questions and if I did they were answered promptly and to the best of his ability. I know next to nothing about this sort of thing, so my questions were probably not the smartest, but Neil was very patient with me and took his time to answer all my questions. Scott and Scott very clearly state what they inspect and what they do not inspect, so I knew exactly what I was getting and I got it. The report came just over 24 hours after the inspection was completed....and it's 35 pages long. It is VERY detailed, down to the smallest thing. Even if something was perfect, it was mentioned in the report. Even when I had a question about the report I was given an answer in a timely manner. If you hire Scott and Scott you'll get quality service and VERY honest work. They give a small discount during the winter for a Monday-Thursday appointment, so get up early and do it before work. My appointment was at 8:30am and Neil said it wasn't early for him at all. They also give a small discount for cash, which may not be possible for some, but worth it if you can swing it. I don't know if I'll buy another house in Fairfield County, but if this deal falls through for whatever reason and I need to look at another house, I'll call Scott and Scott without hesitation.

What I didn't know is that Pillar Post no longer belongs to Dave Leopold, and is owned by some unknown person who I was never able to get a hold of. They were hired to inspect a very high end, luxury coastal home in Fairfield county, and not only did a poor job and came up with nothing but once many issues were found, post clothes, would not respond to me, or my clients. And this business I always want to give my clients 100% satisfaction, and ask that my vendors do the same. This company failed to be responsive or to rectify the situation at all. I will never recommend them again. Beware.
