We did our inspection with Steve and his team a few weeks back. I see he has a good track record of 5 star reviews, but our experience was very different. It started when my wife first met Steve at the property and warned him that the house was packed with a lot of the sellers personal belongings. His immediate reaction was that he should have charged us more. She couldn't tell if he was joking (we paid $3900, more than any inspection we had ever done in the past, our last was just a year ago). He brought a team with him who seemed mostly to be trainees and they ran through the house haphazardly, and not knowing my wife was in the hallway, two of them agreed not to do a thorough inspection because Steve told them he didn't charge us enough. When we received the report, there were a lot of photos that claimed that they couldn't insect critical items, like fireplaces. Two of them had a faux plant on the hearth that weight less than 10 lbs, and the comment was that they couldn't access the fireplaces to inspect. The entire report referenced suggestions to hire experts to further inspect critical areas of the home that we fully expected the home inspection to cover (like the roof and fireplaces). Lastly, I specifically asked Steve if they could perform a well test (in writing) to check the flow in gallons per minute. He agreed to do it, never did it, and when I asked said I need to bring a well company in to do it. Wish I hadn't even had an inspection done. read more

I cannot sing enough praises for Stonehollow, Naoki and crew. I will attest that realtors really don't love them - I know, because my own flatly told us they aren't her first pick because they are very thorough and have cost her some deals (speaks volumes...) We couldn't be at the inspections due to COVID-19, so they called us over facetime and later from home to answer any and all questions. A 70 page report later and Naoki's incredible explanations, photos, comments, also cost us a beautiful home due to the owners lack of maintenance. Sure, we were a bit disheartened but that was in the short term. We know that shelling out a solid $70K in unforeseen expenses in the next few years as well as the ongoing maintenance for an older property would have meant we'd be buying a money pit. We specifically asked for Naoki again on what we hope will be our home and are receiving a repeat discount. Seeing as this is a new build, it should be straight forward, but even the builder let out a sigh knowing who would be doing the inspections. Stephen and his crew of 4 came to inspect our house .. every window was opened, every plug was tested, every crevice analyzed. We went through necessary updates, safety updates, and "in a perfect world updates"... Even-though it was down pouring, the team went outside and went through the whole outside of the house. Steve was extremely helpful and knowledgeable as he inspected our house and answered our questions over the phone afterwards. We were buying an older house, and wanted to get one of the best inspectors to make sure that there weren't any potential issues, and were glad that we went with Stonehollow. This is going to be my first home purchase and having a 3 hour walk thru with Steve was a great way to start. He had 3 other very competent inspectors buzzing all over reporting back to him, while he walked me thru every part of the house explaining issues as he saw them and pointing out the positives as well. Steve is great!! He came to the house on time and with a team of guys so that they could do the inspection and Steve was able to talk to us and walk us through and answer any questions that we had. They did a very thorough job! Steve even gave us his cell phone number to call in case we had any questions. He also had someone come to collect a water sample and bring it to the lab immediately so we didn't have to wait long to get the results. We got our report back in less than 2 days even though it was the weekend! The report was very organized and was easy to understand, especially for someone like me who does not know much about this stuff. There were pictures that went with everything and important things, like the main gas shut off, were pointed out in the pictures which was very helpful. He gave us his honest opinion about everything and was EXTREMELY knowledgable. There was not one questions he couldn't answer. Although we did not end up going through with the house (his inspection showed us how much was wrong with the house under the surface), we will be calling Steve again to do the inspection on our next home! read more
