I absolutely can't say enough good things about Paul and the AB Marathon repair shop. I have never encountered a shop that is so honest, fair and friendly as this one. I've had everything done from basic oil changes to body work to major repairs on our two cars and I trust them implicitly. Most recently, I took my car to get the interior shampoo'd at a nearby carwash and my car immediately went on the fritz. I took it to Paul and asked him if he could figure out what was going on. He not only fit me in right away, but called me shortly after dropping my car off to say that the cleaners had gotten water into the electrical system, which was causing the lights and horn to go off on their own. He dried the electrical system out, ensured the car was running well, then called me to pick it up. When I arrived, not only was my car running perfectly, but there was no charge for the time they invested in drying out the car. I was floored at the kindness and generosity, and actually felt guilty that they didn't bill me for the time they spent on my car. Needed an oil change and routine maintenance check before I drove to Cali for the summer. Great service; Paul and Matt were very professional and informative. My car was in better shape than it was before(someone hit me while I was pulling out of a space) FYI: If your car requires a synthetic oil change be prepared to pay more than the $28 price because that price is only for conventional oil. I finally have a neighborhood mechanic I can trust and with great value. I bought 4 tires from tirerack.com and had AB install them which only cost a total of $60 for all 4 tires + $2 each tire for disposal which was at least $48 cheaper than other mechanics that I called for quotes. Also, my car was making a strange sound while I was getting the tires installed and they determined the muffler was loose...they recommended I go to CarX b/c they already had the parts and it would save me time. The mechanics are good guys and Eddie who's managing the place made me feel like I'd been a customer for years. coffee, tv and internet use in the waiting room. F yeah! I've been meaning to write this review over a year ago after I moved to Andersonville and used yelp for an good oil change, auto repair shop. The reviews on here were SPOT on. Well today was the day I had to finally get on here and rave about the service I've had at AB Marathon. This morning started with a walk to my car to find out it would not start and I had to assume it was my 6 year old battery that I put off changing. I was scrambling of what to do and decided I would contact AB and see if they had my battery in stock for when I had the car jumped. I was quickly told it was in stock and given a price for parts and labor. I mentioned I will try to get over there ASAP as soon as I get this car started. But Paul had another idea, they could be at my house in 15 minutes to jump the car and get the entire process done very quickly. It happened so fast and I was back home within 30 minutes total with plenty of time to get to work, etc. They were under construction inside the shop installing new lifts but they took the time to talk to me, give me a free water from the cooler, and explain the basics of batteries, cold, etc. while still making kind small-talk. Before I knew it everything was finished and I was on my way. I work in the retail industry and know how important customer service is for a business. I can honestly say that each time I have gone here for my routine oil changes, brakes, and most recently before this a check engine light...the service has ALWAYS been well beyond excellent. I would give ten stars if I could! After the guys at the Car X on Western and Foster tried to convince me that I needed new brake pads and rotors, I went to AB to have my car checked out. They did it for free and told me that there was nothing wrong with my brakes, pads, or rotors. They were honest with me, which will always make me go back, and they were really nice. The owner, Aladdin, took the time to show me the pads and rotors on my car and to explain what they had checked. I really can't say enough good things. Go here! read more

These guys were very nice and informative. They let me in last minute for an oil change just before they closed and found some work that needed to be done. They showed me each of the parts that needed repair and most of them looked pretty terrible. They even showed me what the new parts looked like and explained how they fit together and how they would repair them. I took the car for the evening and planned to drop it off the next morning. The check engine light came on immediately after the oil change and when I notified them in the morning they cleared the codes and diagnosed it as related to the issue they were fixing. I found the yelp 10% check-in discount when I dropped the car off the next day and they let me apply it when I mentioned it after the work was done. They said they warranty all their work and hopefully I won't need to take them up on that, but if so I'll update the review. Off to pick up my car which had brakes, flex pipe and belts done in one day. read more

Excellent service. After moving to Chicago from out of state, I was scouting for a reliable auto mechanic and came across the Yelp reviews about AB Marathon which are impressive. I also inquired about them from the Every Block forum and just the same as on Yelp, everyone gave them two thumbs up for their exceptional service. (btw-if you are new to Chicago or just looking for an interactive community forum, Every Block is a great resource.) This auto shop is a class act and lives up to the five star rating everyone gives them. Steve greeted me right away and was able to fit in an oil change for my vehicle within minutes. He was super friendly and when I told him I would be across the street with my kids at the playlot he said he would waive and let me know when it's ready. Not only that, when I was in paying for my service, Steve tried to help me out by putting my stroller away in the trunk. I will continue to put my trust in AB Marathon for all my automotive needs. This place saved my life hahaha, I bought my car a week ago and out of no where the engine started smoking, the check engine light came on, and it started making a terrible humming sound. I took my car there and they did a full inspection of the car, told me everything that was wrong, and fixed it all for a very reasonable price! I was expecting to have to fork out over $1000 to get my car fixed but all the repairs totaled in the low hundreds :) the whole process was very smooth and easy, I just dropped off my car yesterday afternoon and got it back today. Although they said they can usually do same-day service if you get there before 10am! They were very polite and knowledgeable and professional. This being the first time ever having to go to a mechanic I was expecting it to be a lot harder, but they made it painless! We bought a "new" used car and brought it in to have it looked over. Of course we were anxious, worried about the car, and this was also the first time we brought a car here (thanks yelp for the recommendation!) so you never know......BUT this was a wonderful experience. They're busy but if you call in advance they will coordinate a good time to bring the car in. They were efficient with their assessment and they called us promptly to tell us that the car was in great condition and he would recommend no changes or fixes. We were concerned about the battery and while he said it's getting a bit low, he said we should just keep an eye on it when we get our oil changes. I was so impressed with this level of honesty and customer service. We will continue going to AB marathon for all our car needs. And it's in our neighborhood! Yay! read more

When a serious medical emergency hit an out-of-state family member and we knew our tires wouldn't make the 400 mile journey safely, AB Marathon not only made time in their booked up schedule to get us in, they acquired, installed, and balanced the four tires to ensure we could be on the road within four hours. Not only that, but they did so for less than others had quoted and displayed the friendliest customer service we've even experienced (they even conveyed best wishes for our ill family member). I came to the shop in a frantic and Paul was soo nice and assured me that they will do everything they can to help me. He checked in with me multiple times and is a super honest guy. Not the typical place where they try to sell you off on things or say something else is wrong with the car just so they can make more money. the customer service and the quality of work was beyond great, they even drove to my car dealership in evanston to pick up transmission oil for my car! Went here due to the rave reviews, to take advantage of an advertised special. They didn't have any other cars or customers waiting and you would think when you tell people you are in a rush to get somewhere that they would get to the job ASAP, especially when they are not busy. Instead, they made it all about what they found wrong with my car. It surprised me that they spent so much time on this, since I'd already said that I knew my car had problems but I didn't have the time (or money) to address them and had to get going. Yes, they were friendly and polite, but I felt like I was being seen as an easy mark during a low traffic period, which I did not appreciate. When they finally got around to it, the service I went there for was done fine. I really wanted to like this place, but I'm skeptical about returning. read more
