We enjoy our tropical-themed backyard so much now :). Thanks to G (the owner, the foreman, and the hard worker) and his crew. We moved to Brentwood 18months ago. We needed a makeover of our backyard which was flooded during rainy season and poor arrangement of plantation, as well as front yard upgrade. I RFQ'd 5 contractors, and got 4 back ontime. The owner of Pacific Landscape Services (= PLS) is Gatzemani (shortname G). His quote was right in line with another 2, but we were attracted by his overall solution of our troubled yards, and he seemed to be a smart guy. So we did our leap of faith by hiring him to finish in 8wks. Based on our past experience of contracting, ontime seems to be a dream.... but G and his crew made it. 1. Quote is reasonable, G doesn't nickel/dime with small adjustments. I do suggest to communicate clearly upfront to avoid adjustment/rework. 2. G is the worker bee himself and the most skillful one. 3. G always said "have to do it right" vs shortcutting/ easy work, and he did. 4. G is easy to work with, and manages his crew effectively 5. We were impressed by the clean-up on daily base and final closure which really stands out his services. We no longer needed to hire trash dumping guys like our prev projects. 6. If you are uncertain about something, you can ask G who gives his honest opinion but respects the owner's final decision and executes it. 7. G has a broad knowledge of sub-supplier bases+ plantation. We took his recommendation for pavers, pebbles.. 8. They specialize in hardscape/ pavers/ drainage/ irrigation. We have a sloped driveway and connection to backyard through sideyard. The leveling/grading was a big challenge for everyone, but G did it. 9. Restored our deserted pond in the back and transformed it into a beautiful creekbed with moss rocks. The sound of creek river is so soothing and enjoyable (see pictures) 10. The only thing is the SOD which is not doing well. [6wks later after completion] The lawn is 95% good, there are still 2 brown spots at front lawn Few recommendations: a). Any material on color/texture, it's better go to stores (if avail), and/or check samples vs online/brochure. It is very different, esp with big areas and how they age overtime. b). Consult G and make your own final call. The creekbed was a recommendaiton from G, a master piece vs a pond with mosquitoes. We went with our desire of light pebbles vs dark lava stones (an idea from G), and we love our decision. c). Get involved and check the job periodically. We did/do find small flaws (not major) due to inconsistent labor quality during the job, eg. trash was not removed before installing gopher wire, irrigation lines popped after 4wks... G re-did the gopher wire the next day after being made aware, and we fixed the dripper line ourselves. Overall, a very postitive experience!! I highly recommend Pacific Landscape Services.

The project included removing several large palm trees, installing drainage systems on both sides of the house, pouring new concrete, and installing turf. One side of the house is now fully finished with clean, well-done concrete, while the other side has a combination of concrete and turf that looks great and is very functional. In the front of the house, they created a large concrete driveway that leads into the larger side yard, which really opened up the space and made it much more usable. They also installed turf in the front yard with a large concrete walkway surrounding it, giving the whole area a clean, finished look and nice curb appeal. Tino was punctual, professional, and easy to communicate with throughout the entire project. His crew worked hard, stayed organized, and paid attention to the details. The concrete work is smooth and well finished, the turf looks natural, and the drainage system was installed properly to make sure everything functions well long-term. You can tell they take pride in their work, and the quality really shows in the final result. The second was a wall we shared with our neighbors for our shared road. The third was a wall to wrap around our property to protect our house from any future landslides. Each time, everything about the process was FANTASTIC. Steve and Kristin were so accommodating, comforting, and communicative. The walls are absolutely stunning--we get comments about how nice they are all the time. Steve is a really nice guy--he is genuine, knowledgeable, honest, and he had an understanding that the work he is doing is a significant financial investment for us and so concerns are handled compassionately, with utmost patience. Steve's crew is full of respectful, considerate individuals who leave the worksite in excellent condition each time (and I have high standards!). Kristin's prompt communication was excellent (as was Steve's) and we were very pleased that with each project, the quote was accurate. When there was dump fees (I think for soil--but not sure--they had to hire trucks), we were informed well ahead of time and told why, and even then, we prepared for the fees, and they came in under budget. After seeing some stone work at a friends in Lamorinda we were referred to Steve and Avon and the work didn't disappoint. They were 100% on target with the style, their bid (when was the last time you didn't have to do a change order?!) and their layout and leveling recommendations. Also, and very importantly, the crew was always on time, patient with parking challenges, gracious and open to engage. The lead onsite took detailed notes, and the team was methodical and diligent. We have them coming back for two more projects and would refer them first for stone and masonry work. Project: front retaining wall customer cut around coast live oak roots. Back path with steps and landing in pavers, pergola patio leveled and filled with cross hatch brick, back patio in pavers with customer cut edging for grass, brick retaining wall and leveling for new sod, hothbub pad and walls customer cut to fit tub, planter box in pavers. They nailed the whole thing. So good.
