Who knew applying to preschool and elementary gives the same pressure and stress as finding a…read morecollege? I'm not saying we are a Rancho Christian lifer, but I will say our experience in both the preschool and elementary school have been positive. After researching, talking to parents, and finally touring a couple of the Temecula schools, we enjoyed the fact that Rancho provided an environment that felt safe, enrichment classes that we felt were important (such as the arts), and also included a space for our kids to grow academically and spiritually. *PRESCHOOL REVIEW* We initially toured the preschool, since my daughter was not yet potty trained (and in order for her to proceed in her age level preschool, she would need to be fully potty trained). This wasn't entirely alarming since most preschools in the area have a "mandatory" deadline, which honestly can be stressful on parents. Both my kids "eased" into it; I've always believed that potty training should be a gentle transition and encouraged, not pushed. What set Rancho apart was the partnership that the admission team provided with us, recommending she start in the summer enrolled in the "Little Tots" program, which would provide her in a 3 month setting that eased her into the routine. Ms. Annalise was an amazing summer school teacher. She was in tune with what our daughter needed (especially since she was switching childcare). During the fall, she switched to Ms. Faith - another amazing teacher who also provided a safe potty environment. Soon enough, she was transitioned over to her grade level class with Ms. Jem and Ms. Shilpi. Three smooth transitions over the course of a year speaks volumes of the staff. She loved all of her teachers, and the app that the school uses - Brightwheel, provided a snapshot of their potty, eating and pix/videos for the day. The only thing I wish is that preschool and elementary somehow used the same platform to streamline communication and forms. Apps I had to download for the school are: -Blackbaud: for all application school forms, tuition/billing schedules, etc -Brightwheel: preschool only app for updates/communication -Band: Elementary school app for updates and communication Pros and Cons: Pros: -Rancho is an excellent communicator via Brightwheel/IG/FB/Email. It's easy to get a hold of someone via phone/Brightwheel, they are responsive which is important as a parent! -After a certain time in the morning, the entrance on the side of the school (closest to the preschool is closed), you will need to go to the front of the school and pass the guard check-in gate. I personally love this since there are measures in place to check any guest that comes in after a certain time. -Each parent/guardian is provided with a check in code. This is used to sign in and out of preschool at the front office. -Great school events and staff -Love that our daughter gets to see her brother (who attends elementary) at some of the school events! -Chapel: our daughter looks forward to chapel Wednesdays. Every preschooler has a blue chapel shirt; the service is age appropriate, while providing them with a spiritual baseline. Cons: -The exit gate isn't always closely monitored. There typically is staff around the area to keep an eye on anyone exiting (along with any kids trying to get out), but this could be better. -Summer school logistics was a little chaotic. And this comes from being a first time Rancho parent. We were unsure of where to go for early drop-off or late pickup. -Preschool feels siloed, I wish there was more cohesion between Preschool, Elementary and High School. Overall, we love the fact that our daughter has had a good experience with both the staff and her classmates. We feel that our voices are heard if there is ever an issue, and that for the most part administration is also visible and pleasant to communicate with! The school is large enough to offer a varied and challenging program including Internation Baccalaureate courses for talented students, and it is small enough to be concerned for the needs and strengths of individual students. The school sponsors a variety of academic, athletic, social, and team-building events which stimulate and motivate students. It has been a pleasure to help support my granddaughter's attendance at Linfield Christina School and celebrate her senior year activities as I look forward to her graduation.

Throughout my time here, I repeatedly heard messages from teachers and staff about how my role was to serve my future husband, become a mother, and fulfill those expectations. Which was interesting that they consider themselves a college preparatory school when they were only prepping the boys to roofie girls in college and the girls to be great homemakers. I attended for 9 years and I have heard so much victim blaming for victims of sexual assault and it wasn't until my last semester of senior year in bible class that i heard if it happened to you it wasn't your fault. I still remember that moment because of how long it took for me to hear something so basic and important in an environment that was supposed to care for its students. As one of the few female students in a predominantly white, male class taught by a white male teacher, I constantly heard sexist "jokes" with little to no accountability. I was called "woman" instead of my name, told a woman only belongs in the White House to clean it, and told classmates shouldn't trust my answers because I'm a woman. Even boys who were otherwise kind laughed along because they weren't the targets. What bothered me most was the contradiction of seeing posters in his classroom celebrating female scientists while the sexist treatment of actual female students was allowed to continue. I simply wanted my presence in the classroom to matter as much as my male classmates' and to feel that I belonged there regardless of my gender.

Van Avery Prep was my children's home (and mine) for 15 years ( I have 3 children ), I can not…read moreimagine what our lives would look like without them. Van Avery was a lot like our extended family; as a working mother it was very important for me to have my children somewhere where I knew they were cared for and somewhere that understood our needs as a family. My children excelled in High School academically and socially because of the strong base they developed while at Van Avery, they were both challenged and encouraged. They developed confidence in speaking in front of people ( lots of practice) and they develop the skills to communicate effectively, essentially they became equipped to enter High School and take advantage of all it has to offer. My children have all graduated from college now and I do give credit in part to Van Avery for their accomplishments. My children and I built long life friendships with our Van Avery contemporaries and continue to share our lives with them. Enrolling my children at Van Avery Prep was hands down the best decision I made regarding my children's education.

Our family has been part of Method Schools since 2018. So much has changed, mostly positive, some…read morenegative. Method excels in offering extracurriculars, sports, events, AP, honors and advanced courses. They have Dehesa Method Sports Academy which is tailored towards athletes in San Diego county and they recently started The Academy at Method which is a dual enrollment program designed to offer students an early start in advancing their education by taking college courses while in high school. Method has a lot of potential to be a Blue Ribbon school or even a California Distinguished School. It is a K-12 charter school registered in the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified with the California Department of Education. The school primarily offers virtual instruction. Overall my daughter has mixed feelings about her education at Method. As a parent, I appreciate the school's variety of course offerings. I went to a very good high school in OC and I wanted the same for my daughter. If you're considering Method for your child, Method has a yearbook, offers prom, has several yearly events for K-8 and the 9-12 events are mainly led by the high school ASB. As of this review, to my knowledge, Method offers National Honor Society, Hope Squad, Yearbook, and several others high school led clubs. There are some problems that I hope Method improves on. Firstly, lack of transparency. Since Method is primarily online, there should be no question for students or parents on who is leading the school. At an in-person school, most students and parents know who the principal or vice principal is. Most of our time at Method, we didn't know who the principal was. They sometimes call that person the Head of Schools, but you don't know if it's for K-12 or 9-12. Either way, it adds to confusion and distracts from learning. Unfortunately, Method is extremely biased and has double standards. I've experienced this many times, so it's not an isolated issue. Method's administration and teachers don't always respond to an email. Conflict is a part of life and not a fun part; however, when issues need to be addressed, communication is important. Method gets an F in this area. They do not know how to deal with conflict, whether it is with students or parents. Regarding the double standards, the teachers and staff send out emails stating that their meetings are 'mandatory', but it is not fairly applied to all students. Whenever we're told a meeting is mandatory, it's pretty harsh language, 'required' would be more appropriate but nonetheless we attend the meeting. Other students that don't attend are still allowed to participate in the event even if they didn't attend the 'mandatory' meeting which isn't fair. That means the meeting wasn't mandatory after all. My daughter took a college class her junior year but was not given a weighted grade for that class.College classes are more challenging than highschool classes. Regarding AP testing. As of this review, Method does not offer in-person proctoring for their offered AP tests. We are so glad they offer AP tests. It really benefits students so I strongly advocate for it. Unfortunately, Method doesn't really understand how the AP process works. We were told the school would pay the AP testing fee, and we were ecstatic. However, that excitement was short-lived as we realized Method was only supposed to provide us with the College Board AP code, if they would be administering the test. This created a lot of confusion. Since they don't administer the test we had to find a local school with a seat available, and pay $90+ out of pocket for the test, removing the AP code Method gave us. I wish Method had an honor roll system. My daughter worked very hard in high school and achieved 4.0 a couple of semesters and over 3.5 in several other semesters, but didn't receive acknowledgment. She also achieved high scores on the CAASPP test in Science, Math, and English but received no acknowledgment. I've noticed the staff seems intent on doing everything alone without incorporating parents or students. I'm sure they're overwhelmed by doing that. They often speak to parents as if we don't know or understand anything, and they treat us all like we're children. We have valuable contributions. It's frustrating not being heard. I wish I could add more, but this unabridged version is already quite long. I will say the staff and administration is nice and well meaning but they way they do things is extremely frustrating and sometimes backwards. Even the transcript request method is frustrating. They used to include the entire K-12 transcript, and it was like pulling teeth just requesting high school years for the transcript. It shouldn't be like this, especially when it should be expected that colleges only want to see 9-12 grades, not elementary or middle school grades. There's no perfect school. I'm just sharing some of what we've experienced. The flexibility is what kept us there for so long.

She was not professional and the kids had a very difficult time learning in her classroom. She mainly put the children on computer programs and I know there were complaints so towards the end she did some teaching time in her classroom. The teacher would play favorites, telling the children "just because these kids are smarter than you, it doesn't make them better than you". This teacher would give her favorite student authority to choose who they thought was being "bad" or "good" and place them in categories to either receive a treat or if deemed "bad" by this student placed on the list to be reprimanded and have to do push ups in front of the class. The students who were chosen as "bad" were actually some of the nicer and well behaved students. The teacher repeated many times in front of the class that the chosen student had the power to make these decisions about the others. There was a game another teacher lead at recess for PE where the students all stood in a circle and were instructed to say if they liked the students next to them or not. If they didn't those students had to move. It got pretty detailed and started focusing on clothing and facial features such as "I do not like anyone with blue eyes". All of this was shocking to me and in retrospect I can now see why my child was so uncomfortable last year. In 2018 there was a turn over in principals. The new principal isn't experienced in dealing with difficult matters. I did go to the head of the school and had communicated what I thought wasn't working and she was very helpful. I was able to give it at least 2 stars are for the quality of children/families in this school. If it weren't for the great kids the rating would have been lower.

I have been giving this school chance after chance, from kindergarten to 3rd grade we have been here and I feel I've wasted so much time and energy for myself and my son. Some of the staff are great and loving, but unfortunately the bad outweighs the good here.
