My 1 star review is due to their lack of care. My son has been going there for 3 years seeing Dr. Lee (because its location is convenient for me) and always followed the regular checkup and cleaning schedule, yet they did not bring up that my son has a cavity during any of those appointments, until it is too late for a filling. Now they want to put my 4 year old son under full anesthesia for either an extraction or a root canal. WTF! Okay, so why do family take their young children to a pediatric dentistry than a regular dentist? For a pediatric dental office, the dentist should be specialist in seeing kids, him and his team should be experienced in working with younger children, be patient when they are not cooperative, have skills/tricks under their sleeves to help kids clam down and instruct them to go through the necessary procedures, be able to care for patients at very young age, and have sympathy for your kid if he/she is nervous. This place is none of that, they may have cartoon on and small toys at the end of the visit, but don't let those superficial things fool you, none of that can make up for what is lacking there, which is the most important thing for healthcare provider, CARE, they simply don't care. My son is nervous about dental visits and does not like X-ray, instead of helping him through that process, the assistant just tried a couple of times and gave up, so they did not get a good picture of all his teeth during the checkup. Then come to the cleaning, the dentist took less than a minute to just polish his teeth, handed us a bag of tooth brush and tooth paste and he is all done. When I requested him to provide more thorough/detail cleaning, he replied "your son is nervous and not sitting still, so I don't want to spend too much time, it may scare him". If you don't want to scare him, then you should do something to help him calm down and finish the cleaning! Not provide proper care shouldn't be the alternative here. What Dr. Lee did was if the kid is not still and nervous, he'd just do less work on him and get him out quickly. How convenient! Because this lack of care, they totally missed a cavity in his back tooth, and now they are telling me it is too late for filling, they need to put him under full anesthesia for either an extraction or a root canal. I immediately took my son to my regular dentist for a second opinion, even though he is not specialized in treating kids, his team was able to get a clear X-ray and look at the problem. My dentist confirmed that a cavity that size did not happen overnight, and emphasized the importance to take clear X-ray at least annually to catch issues early on to avoid serious dental work on small kids. As of now, I am still looking for pediatric dentist who could do the surgery without full anesthesia. I sincerely hope by sharing my mistake in picking convenience over quality care service here could help parents and grand-parents avoiding the same mistake. If you want a pediatric dentist who is patient with your kid/grand kid, actually care for his/her dental health than rushing through the appointment under 5-10 minutes so they can pack in more patients for revenue, do not pick this place. read more

I was repeat customer here, after experienced the unethical billing with this place and 5 minutes teeth clearing with Dr. Lee for my kid and I'm done with this place like other repeat customers that I know. Back in Dec, 2022 I was back this place for my kid's teeth cleaning and they told me that I have $200 balance due from last service(6 months ago) which both parties were agreed with insurance payment( same insurance used before) and I had paid remaining balance . No phone calls or Billing statement send to my home regarding the additional $200 balance until back in Dec, 2022 for the teeth cleaning, they asked me to pay additional $200. I was rip-off by this place. Think twice before you go this place ! read more

I took my daughter here for 2 crowns and she developed 3 infections over the span of 3 months due to poor procedure work with her fillings and crowns. When I took her back the dentist he had no idea what was wrong, gave us some anti-biotics and sent us away. Because the cause of the infection was not taken care of, her infection returned within a month. It's been extremely hard on the family and I had to switch to a good dental group that actually understood what they were doing. My daughter ended up having to have her two molars removed. It's been a nightmare and it started with this dentistry. The dentist here is also not very good with kids even though this practice is kids denistry. read more

I had the most horrible experience today. My son had done couple of fillings on his front teeth on the end of May & one of the filling fell out within a week . I called explain what happened & they told us to come back to fix it . Due to our busy schedule we couldn't go back till today 7/10. The office was so packed of people & we had to wait for 1&1/2 hours. I didn't mind waiting time at all till Dr. came to fix my sons teeth & saying it happens all the time u don't need to do anything ! If u want me to I will refilling it !! He was in hurry & bad mood ! He hurried so much he did such a bad job ! My son's teeth was so sharp & rough :( I was so furious!! I had ask dr. take a look & he say that's just how his teeth is !!! Hahahahahhaha Ridiculous !!! The entire office staff at ABC Kid's Dental are incredible. Aly helped set up our appointment and explained everything clearly, Nancy is one of the kindest souls I've ever met and took care of our son like her own, and Dr. Lee gave excellent detail and explained each step of our son's procedure. I cannot refer this dentist enough. It's nerve racking as a parent to think of your child in pain, but I didn't have that concern here. 11/10. read more

We've been taking my 6 year old son to see Dr Lee since he was 1.5 years old, after trying one other dental practice. We recently took my daughter for her first appointment as well. We go every 6 months and have never had an issue, except sometimes the wait time can be annoying. We chose him because he is a pediatric dentist, not just a regular dentist. We wanted someone with experience and training with children. That being said, Dr Lee has always been professional and informative with each visit we've had. His office is very kid friendly, with an overall welcoming atmosphere with toys, books, tvs at each dental station, treasure box, etc. The staff have been pretty nice and accommodating as well. I think it's important to know (and accept) that Dr Lee is a very no nonsense type of dentist - he tells the facts and explains the process/procedure with minimal fluff. While he doesn't jump through loops or do magic tricks to get your kid to feel super comfortable in the dental chair, he also doesn't tie kids down or force anything. He sorta just lets them try to figure it out, which has worked with both my kids. I can see how it can be interpreted as abrasive/off putting, but that's just how he is. With both my children's first appointments, he asked which tv show they wanted to watch, had us sit with them in the chair and hold them, did quick small looks into the mouth, showed/explained the tools he was using, and then had an in depth conversation with us as parents about how to proactively avoid dental issues (this was a very frank conversation that took us off guard at first, but it was well intentioned). Overall, with his guidance and check ups, my 6 year old son has had no dental issues ever. I'm hoping for the same with my daughter! read more

This is the worst Kids Dental I experienced. The doctor's skill is so so and he seems not focusing on doing his job. Maybe, he has something else more important so he doesn't care his patients. In one word, the doctor: 1.low level dental skill 2.lack of energy for his job. 3.low level communication skills. BTW, the performance of the nurse and the reception desk employee is average. I have no idea how the dentist here is still practicing. He in no way should be allowed to. He has zero social skills. Being that he is working with children he should be patient,kind, and understanding. My 4 year old needed to have some work done. Once called back into a private room my daughter was nervous seeing all the tools. She became upset. Dentist told her once she stops crying to let him know so he can begin. I took my daughter and left. He acted as if my daughter was an inconvenience. She had never needed work done and was understandably nervous. I was shocked how he treated us. I am going to contact the board to report him. Please do not send your child here. We have since found an amazing dentist who is kind and extremely patient. My daughter has no complaints about seeing her dentist twice a year. read more

In my opinion, choosing a dentist for your children always comes from referrals (I was referred from a friend). You never want to have a bad experience, since it can create the trauma of 'going to the dentist' for the rest of your life. We came to Dr. Lee hoping to get started on cavity work (since my son was complaining his teeth were hurting), but he wanted to get to know my kids first. He wanted to get to meet them, make them feel comfortable, and get a better sense of what kind of procedure would be the best fit for my kids. This first visit made my children feel so safe that when they came back to do the 'real work', they weren't anxious or scared!! The staff was great, office was clean and fun for the kids AND my kids aren't afraid of the coming! I would definitely recommend this office to all of my friends. read more

Our five-year old had a good dentist, but we needed to find another one due to our insurance coverage. Our HMO coverage selected ABC Kids. We couldn't be more pleased with the choice. Dr. Lee is very communicative with the parents and careful and kind with the children. My review is long over due and this is going to be a long one. I believe Dr. Lee is the best dentist I know. Better than any of my dentists. My son has been going to ABC Kid's dental since he was 21 month old. He teeth are prone to cavities and his four incisors were in a bad shape by then. Previous pediatric dentist we saw recommended extraction as a part of treatment and I'm glad I went to Dr. Lee for a second opinion. Dr. Lee not only saved my son's incisors with crowns and but also made me feel safe and comfortable with thorough explanation about anesthesia. Afterwards, Dr. Lee taught me how to better care for teeth. I love his 'limit time for sweets' rule as known as 5 min rule in our home. My son does not get many sweets like candy. But when he does he only eats for 5 min then drinks water to wash away sugar. All my son's bi-annual check ups, cleanings, and few minor fillings have been easy breezy because Dr. Lee and his staffs take time to explain what is going to happen. My son is now 5 and he enjoys going to ABC kids dental. In fact, once he felt face forward and had blood on his mouth. First thing he said was 'I want to go see Dr. Lee' while crying. I wish I could feel and say that about my dentist. I highly recommend ABC Kid's dental and Dr. Lee. read more

Absolutely love Dr. Lee and his staff! We've moved away from Irvine and still drive over an hour to see him. Our oldest one had to have his teeth capped due to cavities. Dr. Lee performed an awesome job and our son hasn't had any problems ever since. Went to him again a couple of days ago to get my oldest a teeth cleanung and my youngest to get his teeth checked out. They were both having a blast. My older one was all fun and jokes and giggles with both Dr. Lee and his dental hygienist. My younger son who is extremely shy and unfriendly with strangers was having a great time, too, really taking a liking to Dr. Lee and letting him examine his teeth. Dr. Lee is very professional, courteous and easy-going with kids (at least ours), and I can only recommend him to any parent seeking help for their children's dental needs. read more

I've been coming here for about 6 months now. Last appointment we had to have a cavity filled on my 4 year old. Dr. Lee was very good with her. She was scared and he got the job done while keeping her calm. Fast forward to today. I had her teeth cleaning appointment and also my 2 year olds. My youngest screamed and they were totally understanding. Once again we got the job done together through a little patience on both sides. Glad I found this office. We had awful experience here, my son ends up with 11 cavities and 2 root canals plus crowns as Dr. Lee recommended for treatment after 3 years been my son's dentist. I had an appointment for my son, and let me tell you. I can't thank them enough for taking care of him as soon as they put him under. My son is 3 and needed major work done. They were very open with the work that needed to be done and what they recommended. It ended up being cheaper than initially. I was very anxious about him going under but the anesthesiologist was very thorough and explained everything to me to put me at ease. The receptionist was very nice and she helped me read my insurance claim and understand it, she would even keep me updated with how my baby was doing. The dentist himself was self explanatory and let me know what to do and what was recommended. He answered any questions I had. I definitely recommend this dentist. They wanted to bring me in earlier but unfortunately I was at work so they worked around what time I could go and everything worked out. I am beyond pleased and my son is doing great like if nothing ever happened. read more

I will never forget how Dr. Lee repeatedly called our child "uncooperative" after she was frightened at the equipment and cried during a cleaning. Granted, kids can make things challenging, but 3 trips in a row we heard the same thing. The impatience on his face was evident. I keep debating wether I should write this review or not...but I feel I should, for other parents whose children have anxiety towards the dentist. My daughter is extremely nervous and scared of the dentist...at another dentist she threw up from being so scared...so we decided to try ABC Dental since it seemed to be geared toward children. My daughter walked in already scared and crying and I could already see dr lee was not in the mood for a special needs patient. He was so extremely rude...even said "I don't know what you teach your kids at home, but..." And told me my daughters behavior was totally unacceptable. She's scared to death! She even soiled her pants while in the chair she was so frightened. This dentist had no patience and should not being working with children. read more

Patrick W Lee, the dentist, tries to be friendly but a competent dentist he is not! After having gone to his office for 2 years and watched him clean our child's teeth 4 times, I can confidently tell you that this guy is careless, sloppy, impatient, and uncaring. He likes to push for topical flouride ($45) and especially extraction and sedation because that is where the money is. He spends less than 10 minutes on exam AND cleaning, and charges $120. That's fine if he's good but he is not. He either does not remove all the plaque or pokes so hard that our child's gum bleed. He is not a gental dentist. It's all about $$$, and not doing a good job with this guy. read more

My daughter have been there yesterday but totally disappointed. They strongly wanted Nitrous Oxide to reduce my daughter's action during treatment but I didn't agree with that because she is just 5 years old and I worrid about her health. After that doctor told me if my daughter make small action during treatment, he will change white to silver. He didn't explained why cavity filling material should be changed depending on action scale. Anyway, I agreed it to have treatment and I left there because I had promise. In 5 min, my wife called me saying my girl crying too loudly and doctor also no willing to continue. So we just quit treatment and returned home after paying x-ray fee. Today some parents told my wife that before shots on gum usually put some band around that spot to reduce pain but no that kind of small favor. I don't know doctor's response is typical or not but my feeling is that doctor's response too avoiding and totally not favorable after I denied Nitrous Oxide. I heard that America doctors really don't like using antibiotics for kids health compared with other countries. But why here love to use Nitrous Oxide? I did my best to write things unbiased but let me know if you feel like that. read more

This dentist is awesome! They are so good with the kids. My daughter is scared of all the dental procedures and they are really patient and helpful to her. They put on movies for the kids to distract them. The dentist is really nice and gentle. I like how he talks to me after each visit and asks if I have any questions and explains everything well. My daughter was seen today for a major dental procedure where she had to be anesthetized. Dr. Lee, the staff, and the anesthesiologist were all superb!! They explained everything to my husband and I from billing to the procedure and what to expect after going home. This is our second visit and we have been completely satisfied with their service. Scenic murals, lego coffee table, Disney movies, wooden activity cubes, & video games...all kinds of things to keep your kids busy & relaxed. The receptionist is super courteous & informative. Great communication line with the doctor. Dr. Lee & his staff were extremely informative & gentle with my son's first visit. Onto taking care of 9 cavities & onto posting another review. They also went over costs & gave us a breakdown AND chart. I didn't feel like I was a cow being milked this time. They explained their assessments well, gave us tips on preventative care, & let us know what kind of treatment is recommended & the things that are non-essential. So far I am impressed. We love Dr Lee. I've been bringing my 3 here for about 2 years now. It is a very busy practice, and I can understand some of the comments suggesting that Dr Lee doesn't care or seems to be lacking in compassion towards some of the patients. But really, it isn't true in our experience. He takes a "no nonsense" approach, but not in an unkind, uncaring way. He's very practical. At the end of the day, he has a job to do and needs to get it done and takes a no fuss approach. The parents can be there every step of the way to soothe and comfort while he does what he is trained to do. My daughter needed a cavity filled. She is older now, but she has significant trauma of anything medical due to her history when she was younger. As soon as she found out she needed to do this she was terrified. Dr Lee didn't sugar coat what needed to be done. But he was patient, and explained everything every step of the way. He gently pinched her hand to show her what the shot would feel like. He ran the tools against her skin before putting them in her mouth so that she knew exactly what to expect and what it would feel like. He didn't play up to her hysterics but was calm and professional and confident, which was exactly what she needed. He let her know she could trust him and he didn't let her down. And I was there with her every step of the way to make sure she was emotionally comforted and supported, enabling him to do what he needed to do. We find him very honest - he doesn't just say they need something done - he actually takes pictures and shows us. My middle son may need braces at some point - he explained the different options without pushing a decision on us and suggested we have time to think about what we want to do, so medically this is his recommendation, but as a parent, go home and think about how you want to handle it. We requested x-rays once a year rather than every 6 months (it's a weird, parent thing!) - no problem at all. We appreciate the little toy they receive after every visit, and the goodie bag with a new toothbrush and paste. Dr Lee has a quirky sense of humor that I can really relate to. I think he is one of those people that you either love or hate. We are very much in the love camp. Skilled, professional, funny, quirky but kind. The nurses are all great too. I am saddened to see the bad reviews and felt the need to comment. I have been taking my children to see Dr. Lee for ten years, nearly since he opened his practice. Dr. Lee and his staff have been wonderful with my four children. My children have had serious dental problems (three of my babies had holes in their teeth when they came in!), and he has helped us overcome them with compassion and kindness. And several of his staff members have been there for the full ten years--a sign of a stable environment. Dr. Lee is a wonderful dentist, and I would not think of taking my kids anywhere else. read more

My daughter Milan has been going to ABC Kids Dental for about 2 years now. The staff are truly caring and help to make my child feel comfortable. Dr. Lee is wonderful with kids. We have been going to Dr. Lee for our daughter since 2010. She is anxious about laying back and relaxing at the dentist and has been getting so much better with the patience and help of Dr. Lee and his staff. Any concerns I've had are addressed immediately and they help to answer all my questions. She recently had two cavities needing filled and we also opted to have two sealants done for her deep molars. I could almost guarantee she would need Nitrous to calm down, and Dr. Lee did everything in such a timely manner without any type of sedation, made the process so much less frightening for her. I recommend Dr. Lee to all of my friends with children. My daughter feels so comfortable there and that means the world to me! Extra pluses are the nice, kid-friendly decorations and toys, as well as the TVs in the ceiling for the kids to watch. That just adds to the wonderful experience. read more

First impression was great. There were a lot of toys available. Upon walking in, my two year old made herself at home and played with all the toys in the waiting area. The support staff was excellent too. My complaint is with the Dentist, Lee Patrick. He didn't even smile or acknowledge my daughter. She was fine until we got into the chair and she screamed, as expected. After the quick examination, he asked me if she's like this with the doctor and I said "yes, it's the age, right?" He said no, it's her personality. He said most of his patients at that age don't behave like that. In a nutshell, he said she has trust issues. I fought back tears and felt like the worst Mom on the planet. He didn't interact at all with my daughter to try and calm her down, and in fact acted very annoyed that she was scared and screaming. As a pediatric dentist, I thought he would be more compassionate and understanding that this could potentially happen more often than not in young kids seeing a dentist for the FIRST time. I will not be going back to ABC Kid's Dental. It was such a bad experience for both my daughter and I. read more

I just started going to Dr. Lee this year with my five-year-old daughter. Their front office has been good about working with my insurance. My daughter ended up having several cavities. My daughter has been scared about going to the dentist, especially from all the noises of the drills and cleaning equipment. When she was supposed to have her fillings done Dr. Lee was very accommodating about how and when to do her fillings. More importantly he helped educate my daughter about how best to avoid cavities in the future. read more

I took my 7 month old son to get his first dental check up here because he already had 4 teeth. I had a bad experience there because the hygienist jumped into cleaning his teeth without helping him warm up at all. I stopped her, and then she jumped right in again and he was screaming. I know he was only 7 months old, but I don't think this was done as well as it could have been. I am not going to go back. While others have had positive experiences, I did not. read more
