We've been bringing our daughter here for years, so this was very disappointing. We called about her loose crown, were quoted a special rate over the phone, then showed up and were charged much more because the promo was supposedly only for new patients. That was never disclosed when we booked, even though they asked for her information over the phone. They only x-rayed the one tooth for a price that seemed similar to a full-mouth set of x-rays, and refused to check the rest of her mouth, saying it was an "emergency appointment." Since the appointment was scheduled a week later, that made little sense and was never explained in advance. Overall, the communication and pricing transparency were very disappointing, and we'll be looking for a new dentist. read more

My kids absolutely love coming here. There are games and books in the waiting area. The staff are so friendly and kind. The murals on the walls and decor is very kid friendly and calming. There are 3 doctors here and all are great. They show a genuine interest in the kids - they ask their birthdays, which grade they are in and talk about their interests. The dentists and hygienists have always been really nice. The entire office is geared towards kids between the many TVs, the video and arcade games, etc. I do not really like the front office, however. I've sent emails to them with questions that have gone unresponded to, and after careful analysis of my explanation-of-benefits letters and the invoices I've paid the office, I found that I overpaid something like $30 over time. I mentioned it to them (they never told me) and they said they would add it as a credit to my account. I found it odd that they would not tell me about this until I brought it up. read more

Yesterday my son was seen here for the first time. I had tried to get him in late last year to have his cavities filled but they were fully booked. No work was done yesterday but we did meet with the dentist. She's very friendly and knowledgeable. She took the time to talk with me about what's going on. Unfortunately I think the previous dental office didn't fill my son's cavities well. He has a hole in one tooth and an infection. Anyhow, the dentist and staff were friendly. Dr. Kim is the best! My kids absolutely LOVE going to the dentist. They usually only go for routine checkups. But my 6 year-old needed a tooth extraction and cavity filling this time. I was nervous about the nitrous oxide and because he HATES shots. But he did not even flinch when he got numbed. The whole thing was over before I knew it - he was minus 2 teeth and plus 1 cavity filling. Dr. Kim was so gentle and talked to him calmly through the entire thing. I was probably more scared when I saw those big pliers come out, but I don't even think he knew what was happening. The front staff is so great too. I had some questions and I felt they answered my questions even more throughly than I had expected. So great! Can't say enough great things. Thank you! read more

I just went yesterday with my two children and honestly they were excited to go to the dentist! Going in, I felt very safe because they make you wait in your car and have you call in first and the doctors and assistants all have both face masks and shields on. My daughter already loves this place and wants to be a dentist now thanks to Dr. Joyce, and my son, who went for the first time, loved it as well. The televisions, toys and decorations help the children, but I think the gentle approach of the staff makes all the difference in helping the children feel comfortable and not scared. read more

We've been seeing both Dentists at this practice for 4 years. The dentists and staff are friendly and flexible. My daughter has a serious heart condition and the dentists and staff make sure she is pre-medicated before the appointment and they double check the time we administered the med as well, so that it is exactly one hour before they will continue with her regular check-ups. Dr. Chang is fabulous! She is patient and uses very creative ways to help your child feel safe. I highly recommend! My two year old is not an easy child and each time we go, she allows the dentist to do a little more. There is no judgement or pressure from Dr. Chang or her staff. Looking for a good children's dentist is difficult enough, but finding one with great bedside manners who knows how to make children comfortable in a dentist office is remarkable! This is the magic that Dr. Joyce Kim provided for my niece at Irvine Kid's Dentist. My 5-year-old niece needed to have 4 cavities filled on 4 separate visits. She's highly allergic to almost everything, including numbing gel (used before getting a shot), rubber gloves, and other basic supplies usually found at a dentist's office. Dr. Kim made sure that nothing was used during these visits that would cause an allergic reaction. Dr. Kim walked and talked my niece through every moment during each visit. Even when my niece started feeling uneasy, Dr. Kim was very patient and simply understood what she was going through and took a moment to wait until my niece was ready to go again. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Joyce Kim for your child's dental care. Their kid-friendly office has TVs and games in the waiting room and super colorful scenery painted throughout. There's even a TV on the ceiling that plays the latest Disney movie so your child can watch something while lying in the dentist chair (so smart!) My son is 5 years old. And Dr. Kim did X ray for him since he is 3. And every year when we come for cleaning and check up, she said he needs filling. And finally we decided to do it last appointment. I was asking her is that too painful for a 5 years old, if yes we can do anesthesia at hospital. She said many kids did it with laughing gas and they are totally fine. Then she split our filling to 4 appointments. And no one did tell us he needs to be fasting before filling and she blamed on me giving too much food to him before filling. And my son was vomiting 3 times all over his clothes and chair and he was shaking and yelling on the chair during 1st 1 hour filling appointment. My son has never complain any tooth pain in his life, I don't think any parents can accept 4 times terrible filling experiences like this. Definitely will not come for 2nd appointment! read more

2.5 stars for Dr. Kim 3 stars for the staff Not sure what all the raving reviews are about. My experience here with my daughter was just ok. The "cleaning" was the shortest cleaning ever - I didn't even know it happened. Dr. Kim was very quick to tell me that my child was anxious and suggested that we come another day for xrays. I thought my daughter was doing fine and asked that the xrays be completed on the same day (and it only took 10 minutes without any protesting from my child). Since this is an office focused on children, I expected the dentist to be a bit more kid friendly with a more pleasant and patient demeanor. I was disappointed. The staff was upbeat and pleasant though. I will take Dr. Kim's strong suggestion and seek a second opinion. read more
