Addl always, the food and service was stellar. Normally there is a nice wait but I guess we got lucky last night! Hostess was very friendly and had no problem fulfilling my request for a booth only. The table they sat us at was very clean and neat, even the floor. We waiting less than 5 mins to get our drinks and about 19 for Reg food which wasn't bad at all. Ive been going here since being a teenager. Im extremely disappointed! My drink had almost no liquor despite how they usually come, the super gigante burrito that should have steak shrimp and chicken only had 3 pieces of shrimp, the steak fajitas nacho and vety little cheese and was all veggies with hardly and steak. This is usually my fav place to go but that was the last time. It felt personal that the entire meal was off in such a strange way while the entire kitchen staff was laughing after leaving our table. What a great find! Showed up Friday night around 6 and this place was packed! We were seated immediately and started with a pitcher of margaritas and chips with guacamole and salsa. Margarita was on point, salsa was tasty, and the guacamole was very good. My wife *pictured, ain't she beautiful?) Ordered the carnitas. This is one of her favs, and thus was one of the best she has tried. I had another pork dish with a green tomarillo sauce that was outstanding. I didn't even use the provided tortillas. This was so good, I didn't even want to slow down to make a taco. I see some of the comments about communication, but we were able to do just fine. We will return soon! read more

We have patronized the St. Charles location for many years. The food used to be great. During the pandemic something happened. We have twice placed orders to go and both times they were a mess. The first time they failed to remove the tails off the shrimp in a shrimp taco. This time we ordered a combination burrito with no sauce and a quesadilla. We live five minutes away. When I placed the order for the burrito I requested no sauce of any kind. They put sauce on it and it was the cheese sauce which is full of salt which I have to avoid because of a heart condition. The same was true of the quesadilla, which we have never seen before. We picked it up just as it came from the kitchen, drove home and it was ice cold. The chips tasted like they were cooked in old oil which had gone bad. read more

We love this place!! All the servers are great and allow menu items to be customized. I get the chicken quesadilla with Verde sauce and cilantro and onions, yum! Did not provide all of the food for my order, made us drive back 15 minutes to get it, wouldn't offer any kind of refund. Food was still not ready when I got back even though we called ahead to make them aware of the issue. When I asked for a refund for the food we had to drive a 30 minute round trip to get, they said if I drive home and bring back all of the food then they would give me a full refund otherwise it wasn't their problem. I have no idea why these people have written bad reviews on this restaurant. I have been to several El Maugey restaurants in the area, while all are good this one is the best. I go probably at least one time per week and the food is ALWAYS excellent and service is great. Margarita's are to die for. I recommend the Pollo Loco, or really anything on the menu. I have never had a bad meal here. The ONLY problem is that sometimes there is a language barrier because pretty much everyone is native Spanish speaking, with English as a 2nd language.
