One of my top 5 mexican restaurants in the area. The authentic flavors are amazing everg time. The refried beans are my favorites. Always have great specials and happy hours. I ordered the Burrito Frito from the Lunch Special, only $9.99 and comes with rice and refried beans. The ambience is great for families. Parking js good with a lot of spaces.

Supposed to be a shrimp & Steak nachos

My family and I received very poor service from this establishment. We went on a Saturday afternoon after making a reservation with google. When we arrived to the restaurant there was only 1 other family and 1 gentleman who arrived shortly after us. The waiter seemed very inpatient, perhaps it was the end of his shift and we arrived. The menu consisted of a large variety of entrees which takes time to look over since we have never dined in here. I opted to get the "margarita special" which tasted like medicine. I requested to have a top shelf margarita instead and the waiter was irritated and asked if I didn't want this. I stated no, I can't drink it because it tasted like medicine. When it came time to place my order I asked for the steak & shrimp nachos which I was told they didn't sell that. I pointed to the picture that I found online where several customers had purchased it. He walked away then came back to tell me how much it will cost. I stated ok.... During the taking of our order, he would randomly step away without stating that he was. Fst forward the food came out. My nachos looked nothing like the picture. No onion, bell peppers or any other toppings. I asked about it. And he came back with a side of toppings. The bill came and I realized that I was still charged for the margarita and I didn't drink. The glass was still sitting there with only two sips missing from it. At this time another waiter had taken over. He asked if I didn't want it, I told him that I didn't because it tasted like medicine. I don't understand why would they even try to sell that to someone and charge me for it despite me telling them that I cannot drink it . Took a while for him to remove it and return to the table. Despite the poor service, I decided to leave a tip that would have covered the cost of the margarita. To be honest, they didn't even deserve that. They seemed bothered to served. Will not return. The only thing positive was that they were generous with the serving of the shrimp & steak.

Bar (far left small black tap is margarita)

Run from this over priced micro portion place! I wanted 3 chicken tacos w/ cheese and no cheese on the second attempt to bring food. First order wasn't mind after being placed in front of me. It's not clean and the margarita is from a tap & all syrup!

    Bar just inside the door.

Summary: El Troquero is a casual, comfortable spot with terrific service complementing Otis high quality food. For lunch I chose a tortilla soup, which surprised by its lack of spiciness. Most tortilla soups are loaded with tomato and chili flavor. El Troquero's had neither. It was more like a cheesy chicken noodle soup with chips substituted for noodles. Bell peppers were used instead of jalapeños. However, some pepper sauce doused on top and mixed in added a bit of heat. I was just as surprised by the generous pieces of chicken. Was an entire chicken breast included?Fresh avocados chunked on top added tastiness. The restaurant normally serves the soup with rice but they accommodated my request to omit it, which didn't at all detract from the flavor.

Beef from my taquitos that should have been on our nachos
    Cheryl G.

Ordered a supreme nachos which states it has shredded chicken and shredded beef along with meaty cheese. It is soupy cheese sauce! And hamburger! Was not worth the $10 they charged us. My taquitos were over cooked and tasteless. Overall not my favorite Mexican restaurant in town.

Two thumbs up - tasty food and sitting outside in the nice weather!

El Troquero is a family-owned restaurant with outstanding service. They immediately greet you with smiles and a basket of warm chips and homemade salsa. The salsa is "family friendly" (mild) and they have hot sauce on the table so you can turn up the heat as you desire. They have a large menu. Ask the servers which dishes they recommend. Some of our favorites are the chicken fajitas, pork tacos, chicken enchiladas and the homemade soups! Like the salsa, the soup broths are mild but flavorful. They serve tobacco peppers, chopped onion, cilantro and lime on the side so you can dress the soup to your taste. The portions are generous and the food comes out fast and hot. The servers are attentive and efficient. The restaurant is always clean and the atmosphere is casual. We never feel rushed at the end of our meal. El Troquero is located in the Schnuck's Hilltown Plaza. There is always ample parking. They have a few tables outside, a bar, and lots of TVs so you don't have to miss the game! My husband and I eat here regularly so we have grown to love the people here. We hope you visit them soon!

These are fish taco's? Fish particles and three tortillas...
    Darryl W.

The food was below average. I ordered fish tacos and they weren't tacos. It was smashed up fish that looked like leftovers with three tortillas. Very strange.

We had the option of both dinner menu or lunch menu which was nice. Basically, smaller portions/prices for lunch. And they always have specials so we had plenty of choices. What a great experience. It was pretty empty because of the time of day. Maybe 5 tables of folks. We were greeted with a smile and welcome by a hostess. Our service and server wwere terrific. I apologize for not remembering your name (tall, thin, blonde hair, big smile). thanks for a great experience. :) Chips and salsa were brought to the table. Homemade chips and one of the best salsas around. The right amount of heat and sweet with a nice texture. We munched while we considered our options,' My daughter ordered the Enchiladas Espinaca y Hongos mushroom & spinach , my future son-in-law ordered the Blackened Salmon with jalapeno butter and cheesey potatoes and salad, while I had the Burrito de Pescado Special and chose the optional roasted pablano cream sauce, All the dishes were right on. Flavors popped and inviting. I had the dinner portion of the burrito Pescado. It was enormous. A complete lunch to take home or two people could easily share. The salmon with jalapeno sauce was cooked absolutely perfect. Sauce amazing. The spinach mushroom enchiladas sweet and earthy with chipotle mushroom cream sauce and Chihuahua cheese rocked the house. Our server was on the spot checking in on us and taking care of everything constantly. This visit was a reminder how great Espinos is. Prior to coming here, I came to the realization that not only am I a brussel sprouts and chocolate chip cookie connoisseur, but I can now add fajitas to the list as well. We'll start with the positive: -decent chips and salsa. Chips were sturdy but the salsa had little flavor. I'd give them a 2.5/5. -they were decent with the refills of water but due to it being so hot outside AND inside, the ice melted quickly. -we got a few pitchers of the wild berry margarita and surprisingly, it was really good. Unfortunately, due to the heat and us getting it over the rocks, it melted quickly. Room for improvement: -better circulation of air in the restaurant. I'm amazed at how hot it was and there wasn't one person in that place that wasn't sweating. AC in the Stl summer is a necessity, so beware if you choose to go. - this is the first time EVER that I've gotten fajitas and it didn't come with guac. Not even the little scoop that you usually get on the salad! NOTHING. The fajitas were pretty good; they had a decent amount of seasoning but the rice was relatively bland. Overall, I'd give it a 3 out of 5. Not the best but it could certainly be better.

If you…read moregrew up in the Valley of the Sun, you'll recognize the cues immediately--from the painted Arizona landscapes on the walls to the complimentary bean dip served alongside the chips. The "Serrano" Connection For those in the know, the original owner was part of the legendary Serrano family (of the Phoenix-area Serrano's Mexican Restaurants). That heritage shines through in the food, specifically that addicting bean dip. The chips are exactly how they should be: plentiful, thin, and warm. The salsa is mild and tomato-forward--a classic AZ style that hits the spot. The "Patti" Experience The heart of this restaurant is the service. We were served by Patti, who is truly one of the most gracious and welcoming people you'll meet in STL. She goes out of her way to make you feel like a regular, even if it's your first visit. She is a gem! The Food & Drink * The Siete (4.25/5): This combo features a crunchy taco, cheese enchilada, and pork tamale. The enchilada sauce is that specific, authentic Arizona red sauce I've missed. Also, finding a properly executed crunchy taco in St. Louis is nearly impossible, but Salina's nails it. * Chicken Fajitas (4.25/5): These are excellently executed. The chicken was actually marinated and seasoned before hitting the grill, and the dish is naturally easy to navigate for those with dairy or carb concerns. * Cadillac Margaritas (4.25/5): We upgraded to Cabo Wabo tequila, and at two for under $20, it's arguably the best value in Chesterfield. Strong, fresh, and high-quality. Insider Tips (Ask for Patti!) If you want the true Arizona experience, you have to go "off-menu." Ask Patti for these specific items: 1. The Cheese Crisp: A classic Arizona-only appetizer. Get it with Hatch green chilis on top. 2. Chili Colorado Chimichanga: The Chili Colorado is excellent on its own, but asking for it inside a chimichanga is the ultimate pro move. The Verdict We don't go out for Mexican often, but Salina's is our exception. The menu is versatile enough to accommodate various dietary needs without sacrificing that authentic "touch of home" flavor. Whether you're a Southwest transplant or just looking for a family-run joint with incredible service, this is the place. I'll be back for the Chili Colorado and, of course, for Patti!
