We first stopped at Aaron and Jess's buggy ride which was wayyy too touristy with 10+ people in the buggy. We wanted an authentic (or close to) experience and were so happy we drove further to Abe's and got our private buggy! Our coachman John was great! He was so friendly, very happy to share information about his life and community and we even got a stop to get some free onions and 25 cent eggplants from one of the homes along the way! It was a truly lovely ride and a very educational experience. John was a delight! read more

Took my kids there today and had a great time. Arrived shortly after they opened and were able to get on a buggy immediately. We opted for the 6.5 mile ride which was maybe 15 minutes too long for my 4 year old by my 6 year loved every minute. Made a quick stop at a bakery and picked up some fresh and delicious Amish baked goods then made another quick stop at an Amish home and bought a well made and very affordable dress to fit my daughter's American Girl doll. Our tour giude/buggy driver, Elizabeth, was very knowledgeable and great with my kids! This tour is a must do for kids or for anyone that wants a leisurely stroll through the country. read more

I was so excited for my buggy ride after waiting for about an hour. The prices are ok, we are a family of four (2 adults and 2 kids) and paid $100 for the 45 minute tour. The driver's name was Paul. Honestly, he wasn't very informative and seemed very disinterested in the tour. We were one of the last groups, so I could understand that he's be tired after a long day, but it was a little disappointing. We were supposed to make a stop at a farm and we never did, which was also disappointing. They are a better option than Aaron and Jessica's buggy rides down the road, that's for sure, but I wish I could have gotten more out of the experience. If you're looking for a buggy ride, they are one of the better options in the area, but don't expect an over-the-top experience. read more

Earlier in the day we had gone to "A is for buggy ride" by the Red Caboose motel which I highly recommend. http://aisforamishbuggyrides.com I wanted to try out this buggy ride as they allow well mannered pets and I could bring my dog. We opted for the 30minute ride, our driver grew up Amish, never baptized and turned Mennonite so he was able to answer many of our questions. He pointed out several Amish homes in the area. It was good but I personally enjoyed the A is for buggy ride better. Since there isn't a listing for them I'll review here. They offer 5 different rides, we originally wanted to take the 80 minute ride which considered of visiting an Amish home, touring an Amish wood shop, small craft store and an active dairy farm. Unfortunately there was a death in the dairy farm family so we weren't able to go but the driver offered 45 minute drive to do all the other stops. We ended up riding along with a family of 4, it's quit a tight fit in there but after we got situated it all worked out, after all this is how the amish travel. I can't remember our drivers name but he grew up Amish, never baptized and married a Mennonite, they now have a 7 month old lil boy, horses name is molly-she's smart, top speed 5mph. He apparently appeared on the show Amish mafia and is close friends with John Shmucker, I've never watched it but thought I'd mention it. The stop is just down the road a bit and is actually the "lil country store and mini horse farm" if u have seen this advertised, so get more bang for ur buck and do the buggy ride and get both. The mini horses and Pygmy goats were cute, the lil country store had homemade crafts including amish made potholders, locally made leather belts, items for baby, cheese, and Rebecca's homemade root beer made with sassafras extract. Try the hard pretzel sample, delicious! He then took us to the wood working shop and upstairs where the family has church. I thoroughly enjoyed this ride, our driver was full of information, about Amish life, his buggy, how Amish use profane and pneumatic air to run their home vs. electric, how Amish church works, how they do weddings, life as an Amish child, what baptizing means for them..no questions off limits. read more

They stayed open late for us. The driver was attentive, knowledgable and patient. They had well cared for petting zoo animals and seemed to take good care of their horses. The ride was a pleasure and the driver's knowledge of Amish culture coupled with having our own buggy really made it worth the cost (we took the 4.5 mile ride- three of us). We took a good sized family on a wonderful buggy ride this morning. I really recommend this for traveling families that are enjoying everything Lancaster county has to offer. It take about an hour total and I have to tell you that our family (kids and all) really enjoyed the ride and the adults really enjoyed learning about the Amish people. I cant tell you about the other operators in town but Abe's does a great job. Our driver was a very friendly man named Earl who has nine children and seventeen grandchildren! No question was off limits and Earl always answered with a gentle manner and a smile. We did a lot of things this weekend in Lancaster but a ride with Abe's was the most enjoyable for everyone. read more

Abe's is really a great experience. Nancy was our guide, a very nice lady with a genuine disposition and lots of good cheer for our boys (1 and 2). The amenities are great - there is a petting zoo and a playground and none of it feels tacked on, put on or out of place. The buggy was simple, comfortable and clean, and we were given the choice of open air or closed. Kids rode for free and the value was high. I recommend it whole-heartedly. read more

After waiting more than 30 minutes at a different buggy ride place, we called Abe's which was supposed to be closing in 5 minutes to see if we could get a ride. The man on the phone said absolutely, come on over! We went and it was only my family on a small buggy with the loveliest tour guide imaginable. She answered all of our questions about the Amish people and smiled while doing it. She even let my daughter who was sitting in front hold the reins for a while. read more

Our ride was so fun. I took my 2 year old and 15 year old grandkids. Both loved it. Our driver was friendly and very informative. No question he couldnt answer. We had our own buggy. We saw many other buggy rides on our ride. All were overcrowded. I feel we had a far better experience. After we fed animals and the kids got to play on a nice playground. No pressure to buy things. We took a buggy ride on the last day of our visit in Lancaster. So glad we did, and even more pleased that we chose Abe's! My 3 year old loved it, and couldn't get enough of the swing set on the property while we waited for our turn. The thing I will remember from this ride was the enjoyable conversation we had with our driver. She was so sweet and talked about her honest experience in living the Amish lifestyle, and also debunked many of the common misconceptions seen on TV and movies that portray the Amish. She was a gem! We wanted to show our 15 year old son the culture of the Amish and Mennonite people. He went fighting and screaming because it would be boring according to him. We arrived around around 3pm and paid $15 per person for a 3.5 mile ride. Our son who does say "I'm a teenager, not a child,played on the playground equipment, feed the small horses, chickens and pygmy goats. The horses are well treated and given lots of attention by the staff. We were introduced to Ruth Anne who is of Mennonite faith and the horse Dixie. It was a wonderful experience and since Dixie decided to make an extra leisurely walk, our ride was slightly over 1/2 hour. The best part of this place is all the buggies are for one family per ride, no sharing of the buggy which was nice for individual attention. Ruth Anne is a teacher in an Amish school and was very willing to answer questions and we never once heard our son complain about being bored. When the ride ended our son asked if we could return next year to take a ride again. A successful and pleasant ride all the way around. read more

We arrived about 9:30 in the morning and were able to ride right away. Our guide was Sam and he was very willing to talk and answer our questions. My family (with little kids=short attention span) went on the 3 mile tour mostly just to say we rode in the buggy. The kids loved the horse and animals, but our guide didn't have much to say unless we asked questions (maybe he was a new guide???)...nevertheless, that was a little disappointing. We were at Abe's over the past LAbor Day holiday. We took their 4.5 mile ride and our driver Earl Jr, was very informative and gave us a very good overview of the amish culture. We went on two rides with our granddaughters. We had a great time on both rides! Our granddaughters, ages 6, 7 and 11, had a wonderful time! Our driver, Paul, was very socialable and encouraged us to ask questions. He also provided information on the Amish and areas we passed. On one ride, the horse was docile enough that our granddaugher received a driving lesson. The horse on the other ride needed a firm driver so no driving lesson that time but everyone still had fun!
