When they were unable to fill my meds because of an unusual shortage, they called every commercial pharmacy in Howard County to see if they had the meds. They treated my elderly mother with respect and compassion that I'd lost faith in. The pharmacist himself delivered critical meds after his delivery team had gone for the day. The pharmacist should be training other pharmacists in the art of caring for patients. They carry hard to find products and conduct themselves with professionalism and integrity. I wish them success. Twice now, I have gone to pick up prescriptions and was asked to pay full price because the medication is "popular." I called my insurance company and learned that Charlesmeade Pharmacy never ran my insurance. The last time I went, I tried to explain that they had not run my insurance, but they insisted that I needed to pay full price. I asked why this had not been communicated to me beforehand, especially since I had spoken with someone on the phone earlier that day. They then attempted to bargain with me to pay less than the original amount they quoted. This seems absolutely wrong--they are refusing to run prescriptions through insurance and are instead negotiating prescription prices.

Too many to list: orders constantly getting canceled with no explanation, corporate website constantly going down, standing on line for 40 minutes to talk to a real person about a problem because no one picks up the phone, being turned away at the counter because the pharmacy's system "went down again due to the weather". (Not kidding, Walgreens hasn't updated their pharmacy system since the 90s.) I tell you all that because if you're dealing with similar headaches at any of the big name corporate pharmacies, it's time to try an independent pharmacy that actually knows how to run itself competently. Charlesmead does that well and comes as a breath of fresh air after all the corporate BS. At Charlesmead, you can easily fill prescriptions over the phone with an automated system from this century. Prescriptions get filled within hours, and someone will call to let you know it's ready. If you have questions, a real person will actually answer the phone. They even do same-day deliveries, if you can't make it to the store. I wish more mom and pop shops like Charlesmead were still around. You can tell they actually give a damn about their customers and pride themselves on doing a good job. I can't tell you how much more smoothly my experience is since I transferred here months ago. I will never leave this place. An important note: You may notice *some* prescription prices here are a little higher. That's because independent pharmacies don't benefit from Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) who negotiate discounts for corporate pharmacies. If you're not sure if your medication will be affected, ask the pharmacy. If price is a dealbreaker for you, fine. Personally, I will happily eat any extra cost if I don't have to jump through hoops every month just to get my medications. You can't put a price on your sanity.

During my most recent visit, I was clearly sick, holding a box of DayQuil/NyQuil while trying to pick up a prescription. Instead of asking how he could help, he immediately (and condescendingly) told me I'd need to purchase the medicine downstairs--assuming I wasn't there for a prescription at all. That kind of dismissive attitude is the last thing you want to deal with when you're already not feeling well. Customer service training feels long overdue. A pharmacy should be a place of care, not condescension. Thankfully, I've since found a local pharmacist just a few blocks away who takes my insurance and treats people with kindness. I took a chance but I definitely have no regrets. I walked into the Ruxton Pharmacy this morning to pick up a prescription and to possibly refill another. What could have taken an hour at CVS took me 5 minutes at Ruxton Pharmacy. There was no one in line, the phones were not ringing off the hooks. The gentleman who helped me was kind and personable. Bonus points: The prices I paid were at least 25% cheaper than CVS or Walgreens. They also have an A-mazing greeting card selection which I will take advantage of the next time I return. After bringing the issue to the attention of the Pharmacy Manager, she was kind and gracious. Made the corrections and even reached out to my providers office to ensure no there would be no future issues. Would definitely recommend because of her service just, Not the other guy!
