Joanne was our guide this morning. She was extremely knowledgeable and also full of wonderful side-bars and tidbits of information. A natural story teller. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and wish we could have done this tour on our first day here in Albuquerque. Nevertheless, we loved knowing the rich history of the land and the people, learned about the Pueblo architecture, Xeri (??) landscaping that the city initiated 25 years ago thus saving 50% of water consumption! This is a great place to take your out-of-town guests! Jesse and Mike clearly love what they do and have a heart for ABQ. We did the City Tour which includes a tour of downtown, Old Town, UNM, Nob Hill, Bart Prince's and Gertrude Zachary's houses (you'll learn more about them on the tour), and the upscale ABQ neighborhood where several Hollywood films and TV shows have been filmed (not just Breaking Bad), and the city beach (which doesn't fit most people's criteria of a beach). Trivia Q&A gives you chances to win little goodies. Most of us were out of towners for the Balloon Fiesta, so they also talked to us about Southwestern food, folklore, and culture. Keep your sticker after the ride to get little perks and discounts at locally owned and operated ABQ businesses: we used it to get a free ice cream dessert with our meal at Old Town Pizza down the street from the Trolley. The Trolley location is also ideal: a five-minute walk from Old Town. Leave your car at the hotel and stroll around after the tour! : ) *Update: Note to Stephanie P from Oakland, CA: I am from the Bay Area as well, and people from Cali typically aren't impressed with NM food (I feel the same way, I'll admit). What a great tour!! The staff is very sweet and very knowledgeable. The tour gave us so much information as to where to go and what to do. Would definitely recommend taking this tour as you first get into town. We went by historic places, famous filming locations, and beautiful Pueblo style shopping areas. This was a really cool and efficient way to see the city of Albuquerque. Learned a lot about the city history and the current present and future state of the city. The trolley was very comfortable with TV monitors also giving features in between the live tour guide who was very pleasant and knowledgeable. This was the best part of our trip to Albuquerque, and not just because I won the trivia contest and my buddy won the scavenger hunt (in record time, nerd). The tour was long but the guide was able to expertly keep things interesting the entire time. I was really impressed with their ability to weave humor, hard facts, trivia, and interactive games to make the tour seem like three or four hours was fifteen minutes. We took the Bad Tour but I'd bet my paycheck the whole experience would be similar on their other tours. I would start my trip to Albuquerque with one of these tours so that the rest of your visit is richer and better informed. read more

My husband and I are a big fan of Trolley tours, and this one was one of the best ever. Why you might ask? Because not only is it owned and operated and built to their specifications, but Mike and Jesse have great personalities and really care about you having a great time on their tour. The tour was very interesting, and Mike and Jesse made it fun and really go out of their way to interact with everyone asking questions and giving out prizes. They want you to love the city as much as they do. We traveled through where lots of filming takes place, and they even have a TV that shows clips of where things were filmed, what areas used to look like, etc etc. Even using the discounts provided by this tour was helpful in saving money. I've been hearing so many great things about the Albuquerque trivia tour, over the years, and if you know me, you know I'm a geek for local knowledge. Alas, it wasn't to be this holiday season, because I'm an absolutely amazing dad. More on that in a minute. Let me describe the Piñon Express trolley tour, first. I feel like I shouldn't, um, provide any spoilers, but then again, everything that happened during this ride was carefully detailed in the tour description, including the cookies and hot cocoa. So yeah, spoiler alert. We embarked from Hotel Albuquerque, cruising the streets of Old Town and Civic Plaza, gazing at luminarias and lights, listening to an audio recording of the Polar Express. (My wife: "The thing about that movie, that story, it's really boring. Totally uneventful. It's lame. But you know, Santa gives one kid the first gift of Christmas and that's, well, that's it. Oh, and the dramatic tension is the bell that the kid loses, and finds at the end. Yeah, that's about it. Don't watch the movie.") This company knows A) how to shun political correctness and B) what this season is really about. If you have some axe to grind with the ol' Christmas tradition, don't take this tour, it's all about meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus (does she have a first name, dear patriarchy?), singing songs, listening to some terrific stories, and politely smiling through Santa's questionable Greatest Hit. I'm a huge fan of Olde Schoole Christmas, the holidays the way they used to be: caroling, baking cookies, connecting with neighbors and friends, handing off that weird fruitcake to some unsuspecting sucker. ABQ Trolley Co crafts an event worthy of my childhood. My kid loved it. Oh yeah, getting to that Awesome Dad thing. I've been hearing, lately, that I've earned the Amazing, Totally Incredible Nobody Tops Me dad award, which is, you know, really cool. But I can't help but chuckle at how we merit my qualifications. Yes, I do indeed purchase tickets to kids activities upon which I -- gasp! -- actually attend. I also photograph said occasions, sharing kiddo pictures with friends who often deem me the Most Amazing Dad Ever. If that's all it takes, sweet. But to be fair, there were six other Most Amazing dads onboard our tour, which kinda deflates my false sense of superdaddy glory. read more

We had a fantastic time on the trolley tour. It was the first thing we did in Albuquerque and it was a great way to get introduced to the city. We took the trolley in December, when it's operated from a heated van. We saw tons of sights like Old Town, Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, ABQ BioPark Zoo, National Hispanic Cultural Center, Bricklight District / University Area, Nob Hill, and more. I took the murals tour of downtown, Barelas and Nob Hill neighborhoods and had a fantastic time. The tour guide was really excellent and the trolley driver was wonderful, too. The murals are really fun to see this way and I learned about some off the beaten track places that have beautiful murals. Be sure to take a hat, wear sunscreen and have water or a cold drink. Great service, great ride, organized staff, comfortable bus. What more can you ask for?

This is a must for anyone who truly wants to know the history of Albuquerque and all the rich folklore around it. The tour is about two hours long and they take you through historical sites UNM the Rio Grande cute little neighborhoods breaking bad and better call Saul and other famous movie sites. The tour guide we had was funny engaging and deserved a good tip. I hope I'm not the only one who gave him some cash. read more

For some reason the trolley tour I was on was an entirely over 50 crowd, (aside from one other gal from L.A.), and for a moment I was a little disappointed. Not because I don't love middle-agers (hi, Mom!), but because I immediately thought, "darn, I'm sure this isn't the type of crowd that the trolley takes to the meth-house from Breaking Bad." You have NO IDEA how excited I was to be wrong! So what if I was the only one to give a big "woo-hoo!" when they asked if anyone watched the show. Not only did I get to see Jesse Pinkman's house in all its glory, we also went past lots of other places where the show films. Thanks, trolley guys. You made my trip. All that meth-talk aside, this is a superb addition to the Albuqurque tour scene. The guys are fun, I learned lots of cool things about the city, its residents, the film-industry, etc. A little trivia-playing, tips on where to drink and dine, and locations of rare must-see spots that only life-long ABQers would know. Amazing tour!!! This review is so over date (a few months). Normally, I wouldn't bother, but this place is worth the review. You board the trolley at Hotel Albuquerque (nice hotel). The reception staff are super friendly, and the trolley look so cool! There is custom tiling and nice wrought iron (I think) supports. Looks very ABQ! The tour guides are so friendly and funny. They often joke around with you and teach you how to be an ABQ local (like the New Mexico Lobo call...kinda like the Gators chomp chomp thing for you Floridians). They also tell you great spots to eat and places to visit. The tour winds in and out of communities (sounds boring, but Breaking Bad is involved), downtown, UNM, and Route 66. Along the way various video clips are played. My only complaint was that the video clips were VERY loud. However they were interesting and really made you realize how much ABQ is used in the entertainment industry! There are also little trivia questions that the tour guys ask you along the way. The prizes ranged from New Mexico cookies, lollipops, and even salsa! That's what I won, the salsa from El Pinto. It was absolutley delicious and was much appreciated. You also get an ABQ Trolley Co. All Stars brochure. This offers you discounts and freebies for many restaurants and shops around town. We used these during our visit--sometimes it saved us money, other times we just got a nice bonus. There are even some exclusive promo codes for hotels for your next visit! Overall, this was such an amazing tour. We learned so much, and it was cool later driving around ABQ by ourselves and remembering something from the tour. Recently went on the BaD Tour - a tour of the landmarks for the Breaking Bad show - and it was so much fun and is a definite MUST for anyone who is a fan of the show! My husband and I had a blast seeing all the locations where the show was filmed. We are such huge fans of the show and as soon as the tour tickets were on sale we purchased! If you are a local or someone visiting, I highly recommend the BaD Tour if you are a fan - it's a must! Jesse & Mike are great - funny and down to earth. Very easy going and they make the tour fun, especially with the trivia and stories about the filming of the show! Good times! read more

We went on the trolley tour today and it was so much fun! But first, a disclaimer: I'm not a fan of tours. I don't like doing the traditional tourist thing. I've been there, done that, many times in many places and a lot of these tours are very lame, boring, plus I don't like my plans predetermined for me. But then I got married and like an idiot, I was unaware that EVERYTHING I was going to do from that point forward was suddenly predetermined : ) Needless to say, I ended up on the tour. And I was pleasantly surprised. I don't recall the names of the guides, but the female tour director (Ashley? I can't recall her name) was very friendly, nice, and enthusiastic about her hometown. The driver was more reserved but was courteous and professional as well. Ashley(?) was also very knowledgeable and gave us lots of information about ABQ, but it wasn't just boring facts; she told us stories and included trivia plus little prizes for us answering correctly. I especially liked the tour of the three different Albuquerque residential neighborhoods. My wife and I are seriously considering relocating here, so showing us a sample of the homes was very helpful. Lastly, I liked the fact that the tour didn't drag on forever. At 90 minutes long, we got a good historical summary, a great view of some of the major landmarks and lots of information about the city, and just when people were ready for a bathroom break, the tour was over. They also offer military discounts, an additional perk we were able to take advantage of. I recommend this to anyone who wants to know a little more about Albuquerque, even if you are a resident. Most of the people on the trolley with us were locals, so we got some really interesting info from them too. read more

October 2016: My wife and I are planning to move to Albuquerque - the Trolley Tour was an excellent introduction to ABQ! Our tour guide (Allison?) was upbeat, entertaining, and most importantly informative. We were amazed by the many "Fun Facts" about Albuquerque. The 90 minute tour was well worth it. Best part - we went through several different neighborhoods which gave us ideas about where we would like to settle. (we are east coast transplants) BONUS: We used our ABQ sticker for 2 for 1 admission to the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History. Update: October 2017: My wife's father visited us a post Balloon Fiesta. We were a bit disappointed that 1) the Trolley was in for servicing and we rode in a van instead. I had to change my seat from being next to a window to having to sit in the middle seat in the back because one of the other passengers couldn't fit into the back seats. 2) The driver who was also the tour guide focused mostly on telling us about which stores we could spend our coupons in. The tour was nowhere nearly as informative as our first tour the year prior. Would have liked to have seen more of the architectural and artistic highlights that make this place unique. Next time we have family or friends in town we'll be sure to ask 1. whether the fun Trolley is in action and what the Tour guide's focus will be. read more

Went on a "Bad" tour(they are not allowed to call it a Breaking Bad tour) this past Saturday. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We went to several filming locations in Abq, including the White House, car wash , Sauls office,Pollos Hermanos(twisters) and so much more. It was a 4 hr tour with the most amazing hosts ever. They have trivia and give prizes. They are very knowledgeable about the series and keep you engaged. I won 2 prizes, and my fiancé won one. They stop for a bathroom break and free drink at Twisters, and a break at the car wash. Reserve ahead of time, because the trolley holds 34 people and sells out fast. read more

When KeepItQuerque chose to fete our principle Crowd Funders by taking a "Best of ABQ" tour Mike Silva and Jesse Herron were "in" from the start! Why not? As one person close to Mike said, "he bleeds Cherry and Silver!" And Jesse is also a #LocalBoyMakesGood, graduating from Eldorado (don't hold that against him!), working with the Film Office (among other ABQcentric roles) and always as a devoted advocate of all things Burqueño! And when, at the last minute, several guest could'nt make it Jesse didn't bat an eye. Instead he went into "Custom Tour" mode! Basically he suggested that we KeepItQuerqueños already knew the "Best of Burque," so why not do a customized "Bad" tour? And we got on board! We really enjoyed the tour and thought it gave us a great overview of the many different aspects of ABQ. Not for people with dogs sensitive to sound I wish I could review this tour better, but our experience was unfortunate. My wife and I booked an open air trolley tour with our dog, and were eager to explore the city, but upon starting off, I could see there was going to be a problem, or rather I could hear it. The trolley is a very loud vehicle, with poor suspension, and incredibly loud squeaky high pitched brakes. While the sound was unpleasant for us, as was the rough ride, it was absolutely unbearable for our big-eared Corgi, who shuddered I'm fear at every traffic light as the vehicle squealed to a halt. After the first stop in the tour, I could tell that the experience was going to be a nightmare for him (and us by proxy), so we asked to be let off so we could walk back to the hotel. When we asked for a refund at the hotel, we were told that was "impossible". Everyone was friendly about it, but that doesn't change the fact that the poor upkeep of the vehicle led to the cancelled tour and the poor experience, and should have resulted in a refund. The Trolley Tour was great and mostly well done and I can recommend it. However, it wasn't without flaws the day we took it. We took the general ABQ Trolly Tour, not one of the specialty ones. Here's what was great about it: --Mike is very good at aspects of public speaking that keep people engaged and interactive. This is a special performance skill that not everyone has, so it's nice. Also makes the tour feel more professional. --Bonus that these guys have a lot of love for their hometown. --Just because the trolley doesn't stop somewhere of note doesn't mean they don't mention it and explain it, like even a kids entertainment center that they say is fun for adults too. Gives a lot of local flavor. --It's the perfect length of time so it's not too short or too long. --They have a lot of fun giveaways you can win for knowing various fun facts, and they're mostly very useful local things. For instance, I won tickets to the botanical garden where I was planning to go anyway, so yay! Here's what's not so great about the tour that I think can be fixed and would have guessed these guys should have figured out already: --It's a tour, and it's $25. That's pretty steep, so expectations are somewhat high. --THEY DON'T TELL YOU ahead of time that there will be tons and tons of giveaways along the tour. This is bad planning. First of all, people put off by the high price might otherwise take it if they know this. Also, we ate brunch anticipating a tour. Then we get on a trolley and within literally the first 20 minutes we're handed piles of pizza, a sopapilla, and a bag of Halloween candy. Later on the tour we're given two different kinds of cookies from two different bakeries. And some salsa. My partner and I ended up with three packages of salsa, and what are we going to do with it? Tourists can't fly with it. We should have known better, but our salsa was confiscated at the airport. --This is the WORST kind of giveaway food. There is nothing healthy about it, and the day we took the tour, we were the only non-retirees on it and possibly the only people under 70. So, even worse, giving elderly people this food. Also, having eaten pizza and sopapillas around both ABQ and the country, I can say this was some of the worst of both I'd had. The cookies were very tasty, but we gave most away; it's just too much. And what adult needs Halloween candy? And if you have to give out cookies, why not the New Mexico state cookie? I found out other places that the state has its own cookie, whereas it's the perfect thing to learn on this tour instead. --At the end of the tour, nearly as everyone is departing, Mike asked us all where we were from. This should have happened at the beginning of the tour, to help break ice between strangers and help people talk to each other who are on the tour. I highly recommend that they change the formula. Charge less for the tour, and give away less food or no food. I understand promoting local flavor, but that is done in the restaurant giveaway "wins" and they could really pick better pizza or just eliminate it. And tell people what to expect. For now, expect to be fed and come hungry. read more

Sometimes these hot summer days make us feel like we've run out of ways to get creative in enjoying our city without overheating...until we jumped aboard a trolley tour. Even our lil 1 year old son enjoyed the whole duration of the ride. As longtime Abq residents, we were surprised just how much we did not know about Abq's history, architecture and neighborhoods. We were lucky enough to get Mike and Jesse as tour guides, as they made the ride quite entertaining. The only downside (which cannot be held against the trolley co.) was the occasional impatient and, downright rude, driver who would honk and zoom around us, especially near ART construction areas. Fun and interesting tour of Albuquerque. I did the two hour Best of Albuquerque tour one day, and the hop on / hop off service the next day to visit the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. It was still interesting information and trivia the second time around. Included some Breaking Bad sites. Entertaining host. read more

I took the general city tour. It was longer and more comprehensive than a lot of tours, the guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. Portions of the tour have recorded narrative. While these are also well done they are not well integrated into the tour. All in all a worthwhile activity especially if you only have a limited time in Albuquerque read more

Update: I took the "Bad Tour" this year, which is the long Sunday afternoon tour of shooting locations for AMC's "Breaking Bad". It was super! Not only did we roll past all the homes where the characters live, the lab, the car wash, etc....we heard tales from the set and watched clips and interviews with cast and crew on TVs mounted in the trolley. We played some 'Bad Trivia' for prizes and got some free sodas at Los Pollos Hermanos. We had opportunities to get off the trolley and take pictures at some of the locations. Jesse and Mike are huge fans of the show and really know a lot about it. It was a lot of fun! read more

We called in Hotel Albuquerque today 16th September 2017 at 2:10pm only to be told that the last tour for today had left. Last tour was 2:00pm by their calculations! We leave early tomorrow and won't get a chance to complete this tour. Very annoying Not easy to fine the location. It's inside the Hotel Albuquerque. We are road trippers from Ireland and found this really upsetting as we had done our homework for this trip. read more
