It's been a few years since I've been to Absinthe Bar, but it is definitely a unique bar being that they serve absinthe. It's not only fun to watch the bartenders make the drinks, but the atmosphere is very laid back and chill. We sat at the small bar when we came here and had a nice night ordering drinks and receiving good service from the workers. This is such a cool place but they have some major issues. Service was super slow. When hubby finally got his rum & coke it had zero alcohol. Next he asked for a double and it was still pretty weak- so we fear they are watering down the liquor. Another in our group ordered an Absinthe and she didn't like it. When she explained this to server he said "yeah I don't like that one either" and wandered off - not a great resolution. read more

Much love for this place. The Absinthe selection was phenomenal and their regular drinks were great, too. Recommend the sazerac. Swiss Haven, the restaurant directly above, supplies the food. It was terrific!! I needed gluten free options and the owner went out of his way to accommodate me. And the food was fantastic! I highly recommend Swiss Haven. The jungfrau sausage was very flavorful with a bright finish. The vegetable medley was perfectly done with the right amount of white wine, garlic and olive oil. read more

Good stuff. Never tried Absinthe, but it was pretty enjoyable. Bar tenders knew their stuff and were very friendly. I tried a Swiss Kubler absinthe with a beer special for $7 and my friend tried a 20$ imported French absinthe(forgot the name.) The Kubler was very Yeager/Sambuca tasting and the high dollar stuff was... worth it. It was not only good tasting, but pulled it off especially well for a 140 proof drink. They even sell one that's made locally in Denver there. read more

I never tried absinthe. The bartender and owner know the product inside and out and recommended some good ones for boyfriend and I. It is served in little wine looking glasses. A sugar cube is placed on a strainer on top of the glass and water is slowing dripped on the sugar cube dissolve it. Absinthe has a strong black licorice after taste. My tongue became slightly numb after drinking it. Boyfriend had about 6 glasses and felt very relaxed. Ha. Great service! And they have a variety of absinthe to try. Patrons are friendly...great find in Breck. P.S. Absinthe is about $20-$30 per glass. read more

The bartender was the sweetest woman ever! She seemed very knowledgeable about absinthe. She patiently answered all of my questions, and took the time to explain all of the flavors in each of the few drinks I wanted to know more about. I settled on what she said was one of the best kinds of absinthe in the world. It came in a small cup, but it gave me a very good buzz/high. I had a good time. I just about had a religious experience when I found out Breck had an absinthe bar. I'd just moved from San Francisco and had lived there just long enough to get hooked on chasing the green fairy. The owner Alfanzo is a hoot (he also owns the swiss restaurant upstairs). The two bartenders are good too, Sara(h?) especially. Their stock of absinthe rotates regularly, but all the standbys can be found. They've especially got a nice variety of white absinthe. The only downside is that the crowd is of a very widely varying quality, when there is one at all. read more

My friend and I have been wanting to try this place for a long time - so glad we finally got to! What an eclectic little gem hidden right in the middle of the Breckenridge Main Street. We walked in to find a cozy, comfortable, hole-in-the-wall type place with slight speakeasy vibes (exactly what you want in an absinthe bar). We then seated ourselves and looked at the menu and wow - they have so many options! And I mean SO many. Innumerable different types of absinthe listed by country of origin all with approachable little descriptions. I wasn't expecting to be so impressed, but this place is the real McCoy. Very focused on their specialty and a great place to enjoy absinthe, no matter what your tastes are. They also are committed to preparing it the old fashioned way with sugar and silver spoons and the water-dripping-contraptions (no idea what they're called, but it definitely adds some authenticity and theatrics to the experience!). Additionally, it's worth mentioning that while absinthe is clearly their focus, they also have non-absinthe options like you'd find at regular bars and some food, so don't be scared away if you're not a fan of the green fairy! Would recommend and am very excited to take more friends here in the future! read more

Wish I could do no stars...Mediocre at best. A group of 10 and I decided to hit this spot for something different and fun. We sure got different...Bar only had one customer which seamed like the bartenders boyfriend. Bartender was extremly rude and it looked like we crashed her bar date. Again...the bar was empty. I used to be in the industry and I would be more than trilled to have customer walk in to my empty bar. Very uncomfortable experience, we left our drinks almost full that's how uncomfortable we felt. read more

What a great place. I had always wondered about the myths and stories about absinthe. This came as a recommendation from a bartender while driving up to Breck from Denver. We were greeted by Dustin, a laid back looking, very polite guy. He answered all of our questions and was very patient. He made several recommendations which were greatly appreciated. That said this bar is a fantastic place to try absinthe for the first time because they have a great selection (I assume, if you're Ernest Hemingway you may find the selection somewhat lacking but you also probably stopped reading because of the poor writing anyway). Despite being a michigan fan, the bartender was really helpful in picking something out since we were staring, slack jawed, at the menu. He was even nice enough to only charge us half price since we hated it so much we didn't actually drink much of it. They also have a great selection of Belgian beers to help drown the taste of black licorice. read more

By far my favorite place in Breck, the absinthe selection is huge, and their food is absolutely amazing. The staff is always accommodating and helps you pick the best absinthe for what youre feeling like. The absinthe flight was one of the best deals I've ever seen, costing under 30 dollars for what would normally be over 40. So if you're looking for a drinking experience that goes against the norm I strongly suggest wandering downstairs to the Absinthe bar on main. Their obvious highlight is their incredibly vast absinthe selection, but they also have a full bar. The hospitality in this place is unbelievable. The down to earth staff was completely interactive, attentive, and helpful, but beyond that the owners are just genuinely great people. Me and my girlfriend were wasted in a closed down town Breckenrdige with no ride back to where we were staying. The owners husband then offered to take us home and got us back safe. That would never happen in Dallas!! Great drinks, great service, great atmosphere.I will be visiting this place every time I visit Breck. We were here during Mud Season in September, so the place was empty. We were new to Absinthe and had no idea what to expect. The bartender educated us on the various levels, tastes and pricing. He was extremely informational and made some recommendations for us to check out around town. It is below the Swiss Haven, so be prepared to smell some of the cheeses being cooked from upstairs. Went here because one in our group wanted some Absinthe. Only one bartender and he was slow and not focused for only having 5 tables in the place. Three in our party had Absinthe and the other 2 had just a drink and bill was $125. Not really much atmosphere at all. read more

This place was awesome!! I've never had Absinthe before and neither had my friends I was with so we figured we'd give it a try. The bartender, Michael, was so amazing. He was so informative of Absinthe and really took the time to explain everything to us and how it was made and such. The bar only had us and maybe about 4 or 5 more people (all locals) and they were all super nice. Michael and his roommate talked with us majority of our time there and told us about the city and snowboarding and such. They had pretty good music playing and there was room enough for me and my friend to dance a little bit. Overall, it was an awesome experience and I would most definitely recommend this place to others! read more

Came to this bar tonight with 10 people from Fort Lauderdale. Two female bartenders and one male, which all seemed to be super rude. After trying to get their attention for 15 mins to order drinks, One of the female bartenders even asked where we were from because I guess our order was so far fetch . Oh by the way don't call the male bartender chef he really took it to heart. I work in the industry and the hospitality was lacking. We walked out and decided to take our money else where. My friend and I have been to many bars and have had our share of absinthe from the states and in Europe... I must say, this bar stands out superior compared to the rest!! Not only they have a great range of variety when it comes to absinthe, but the staff just puts it over the top. I stopped by a total of two times and the first experience was mediocre, I mean the product was outstanding but the service stunk. we sat at the bar and the lady behind the bar seemed like she did not know what she was doing and seemed careless at the time. Although giving that I love absinthe I decided to give it another try. About a few nights ago I stopped back in with a friend. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a beautiful girl (who seemed like she was sent from the heavens) asking us we wanted to be seated at the bar or a table (already a great start). We of course chose the bar. She introduced herself as KATELYN. Not only she was prompt with her service but she also was super knowledgeable about her craft, and above all her demeanor and attitude were celestial. I mean I'm kind of "foody" and have dined-out close a million times, honestly it's my job to critique about food/drinks, venues etc And back at home (NYC) I'm constantly surrounded with the food. - Ive never seen anyone so devoted and passionate with carrying out her work the way she does. She was AMAZING!! She really brightens up that place with her contagious smile. I wish I could bring her back with me to show her off to my friends and possibly share her insight and expertise to some of the local venues near me. Overall drinks, atmosphere and ambiance were great!! BUT KATELYN was the key component who really solidified it for me - and really sold me on this place for life!
