Our breakfast order was delivered incorrectly twice in the same morning. Went to pay the bill, and was presented with an extra plate charge. When I questioned that, I was confronted by the hostile owner who told me to leave, and don't come back!! We visited your location this afternnon at about 12. The food was delicious and would have been 5 stars but the server was awful. When my 74 year old mother checked out and forgot to order her coffee the server rolled her eyes and then stated "again anything else?" She was very condescending. What a horrible experience! We saw this cute cafe and we were so anxious to try it. We arrived early on 9/29 and there was an employee who wore a happy orange top with dark hair, but she was anything but happy. Right away she had an attitude towards all the customers. We all looked at each other and one lady said "can she really be so unhappy she takes it out on the customers?" We will never come back to this bakery. The breakfast was mediocre and we walked away wondering why this bakery would ever have this woman working there. The place we stayed at said the bakery has a horrible reputation and that the only reason they are in business is because they are basically the only game in town. Sad. read more

This is one of our favorite breakfast spots and normally would give a 5 star. We drive 25 minutes to get there. Today was a disappointing experience. My two girlfriends and I just finished our meals and we're talking and finishing our coffees when our waitress came to the table and told us it was time to leave. Driving along 160 on route from Durango to Mesa Verde I didn't expect to find anything to distract me from my goal of an afternoon of cliff dwelling gawking. Then road sign announcing yet another tiny town barely registered. Except, the "Galleries Open" sign caught my eye. Galleries? Here? Is this some sort of tourist trap camouflage trick like at Four Corners? Well, why not check it out, I though. Worst case I lose 5 minutes and get the self satisfaction of suspicions confirmed. Much to my inner cynic's dismay, Mancos is indeed a for-real little art town. Salida's younger sister. Places to grab a snack are in short supply, though. You can choose between the biker bar or Absolute Bakery. Not being dressed for a biker bar, nor really wanting booze 11 am I chose the bakery. Having already had a mediocre breakfast at Applebees in Durango, all I really wanted was something to rescue the bland that had settled over me. The many baked goods in the case on the counter looked like they'd fit the bill. I chose the pecan bar. Pecans, chocolate chunks, sugary gooey goodness. Buh-bye bland. Hello awesome! It had a nice balance...not too sweet. Not dry. The right tipping point between chewy and crumbly. While not crowded, the tiny place was doing brisk business. Everyone seemed as genuinely pleased as I was. Next time you find yourself between Durango and Mesa Verde, follow that sign into Mancos, check out a gallery or four (I recommend the bronze sculpture gallery) and definitely stop in at Absolute Bakery. read more

My wife and I came here for breakfast. Decent place, good food, good coffee. We appreciated the coziness and cool vibe. Here's the rub: I bought the house brew and on the menu it clearly stated "IN-HOUSE BOTTOMLESS CUP." So we go outside and enjoy our breakfast. Being from out of town, we decide it would be great to buy some locally made granola from this place and so I go in and buy $14 worth of granola for our friends back home. While doing this I request a refill on my coffee and both baristas refuse saying they don't do refills. I was speechless but managed to point out what the menu said. They said it was for IN HOUSE. I'm sorry, you don't have any tables in house, my wife and I ate our breakfast out on your sidewalk. So that doesn't count? I just spent $40 at your business and you can't give me a simple coffee refill??!! I don't care if it's Covid season or not, get a new cup!! What a way to piss off the customer. I was impressed here. I'm a tough sell when it comes to bakeries...I am a chef myself, specializing in pastry and breads. This bakery was well received after two weeks on the road away from my own kitchen. Excellent. Breads are made from organic flour and good ingredients. Treats were very tasty. We got some bars to go, for a post hike treat, and they really hit the spot after 10ish miles in Mesa Verde! Breakfast was top notch too...the veggie breakfast burrito that I had "Christmas style" was really really good. Kids meals were great - the both scarfed down their plates. My wife got a "create your own sandwich", which was really good. I ordered the pesto pasta with chicken, and it was pretty bland. The place is popular with locals, and there was a lot of friendly chatter. I went for food, which was disappointing. I had the breakfast special, which sounded good but was poorly executed and, at $12, overpriced by about 30%. My special was mostly tasteless and heavy on bread (actually thawed English muffins). We ate breakfast here twice during Memorial Day weekend. On Sunday morning, we walked in and were seated right away. We both ordered egg benedicts, which were absolutely delicious. Halfway through our meal, the air conditioning started blasting. It was 8:30 a.m. so it really wasn't that warm. All customers were cold and had to go get sweaters/jackets to finish their meals. We also had to wait a bit to pay for our meal. the server finally came to tell us that customers have to go up to the counter to pay and she gave us our table number. I would recommend to the servers that they tell their customers this right away so that we don't have to waste time. On Memorial Day, we returned to this restaurant, because the local bed & breakfast didn't actually provide breakfast. We ordered different breakfast dishes which were also delicious. I ordered a soy chai and my fiance ordered coffee. The cafe has a self-serve coffee station which would be fine if it had coffee. All four containers were out of coffee, and when the wait staff was notified, they said, yeah we can't keep up. I think the coffee should have been taken off of our ticket since he did not get a cup until the meal was almost done. And he didn't finish that cup because we were ready to leave. Also, the server never came back to tell us what table we were at; the line to pay for the meal was extremely long because there were people ordering to-go meals and who came in to buy bread or other products. I would recommend that the self-serve coffee be better maintained and the servers begin cashing customers out. However, that being said, the food is delicious! read more

I cant tell you what its like to have been on a motorcycle for weeks and see a place like this pop out in front of you on the road. This was truly one of those magical "oh hey ill pull off here and check out this little town" moments. The food is very good, large portions, ownership awful. My complaint is about the Rude owner and the way she conducts business. I took friends there after raving about the food. We were there at 9:30, one of my friends cannot have caffeine, for medical reasons . He poured himself his second cup of decaf coffee, which was only 1/2 cup, the pot was empty. (we had not received our food yet, which was fine, we were enjoying conversation, not in a hurry). He politely asked the server to bring out more decaf, we were told they would not be brewing more just for him. I went to the front to speak to the owner, she adamantly told me they would not make a pot of decaf for one customer. I explained he had a medical condition, she told me to bad. It cost $30.00 to brew a pot of decaf coffee and she could care less about his condition. She went on to argue with me about brewing another pot of coffee, talking about her profits and how difficult it was to cater to special needs. Hard to believe! Who runs a business this way? My husband and I will Never go back. This is an unacceptable way to conduct business. Absolute bakery will never get another dime from me or anyone I know....I will definitely tell everyone to go somewhere else! read more

This place is the tops! I have to say this is one of the best breakfast places in the 4-corners. Everything they make here is pure awesome. I have always been treated very well here in the past several years. This is a must stop place on my way to Telluride, Moab, The Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, etc... I will starve myself the night before so I can have a huge breakfast here and take away their macaroons for snacking on. Their biscuits and gravy are superb! Real, sawmill gravy, made with the drippings like it SHOULD be. (I abhor cream gravy). The times that I have been enjoying my breakfast I have found a used book that I want. I'm really disappointed with the bakery lately. We moved here 4 months ago and so many new friends have recommended this place. Unfortunately after eating there I think 6 times in the past 4 months I don't think I'm going there again for a while. First, the shared wait staff system is not working. On at least 3 occasions we've sat upwards of 20 minutes waiting to order before being asked repeatedly if we had ordered yet in the moments afterwards by each member of the staff. Then after all that time, the eggs often show up somehow burnt on the bottom with clear albumin inside. Today the server argued with me about what over medium means so I politely paid for my daughters brownie, told them to have a nice day and left. This became true for us one rushed morning on our way from Mancos to Mesa Verde. It was with great sadness that we waited for our to-go vegetarian breakfast sandwiches, because we knew we could not linger in the charming Absolute Bakery. We also regretted already purchasing factory-made sandwich bread elsewhere -- the sourdough looked amazing! I kicked myself not many days later when I bought cereal, remembering Absolute Bakery's house-made granola. Ugh. But all of that is my fault -- let's refocus on what Absolute got so very, very right.
