Courteous. Despite a filthy chimney, they were very neat. I have no basis of comparison for their fee, but it seemed reasonable to me. ACE Chimney Sweep (aka Bonafair Chimney Sweep), owned by Matt Bonafair, is a fantastic chimney sweep service. Matt is experienced, prompt, friendly, courteous, and efficient. He works hard to get the job done right and is very good at following up on unexpected problems. I started using Matt for my chimney needs back in the winter when I bought my house and needed the flue swept and inspected. Since then, he has also repointed my firebox, repaired an ornery damper, and did a fantastic job installing a wood mantel shelf on our limestone chimney. This review starts 2 winters ago. I have lived in my Clarksville house for 30 years, and when I moved in, the chimney was condemnable, and never really would draw the smoke. Then a couple years ago, I decided to fix it up, got some estimates. First of all, Matt, was the only guy out of the bunch, that could use a tape measure... I was in construction for 25 years, before my current gig, and I look for these kind of things! The work done looks fantastic, and SOLID, he really is well trained at his trade. We had a Malm fireplace installed about four years ago and all was well until Harvey hit Texas. After that, we were getting rain inside our house, not from the stack but around it. We called the company that installed it five times and they would not return calls. Matt came over yesterday and saw some potential problems, one being the seal was broken. He sealed that plus any potential leaks and today it rained and no water! I appreciate the time he took before he came over to the house, he was concerned it might be a roof issue and didn't want to come over and say he couldn't fix it. A review way overdue. In early January, I contacted Matt to address some safety concerns that came up in a home inspection for our new house. Matt was very helpful over the phone and asked for me to send the portions of the inspection I had concerns about. He followed up the next day with his suggestions and estimated costs for repairs. I was impressed and relieved that he could fit me into his schedule within the week. On the day of service, Matt and his colleague made sure our floors we protected, took to making the repairs inside and outside the fireplace and were soon on the roof, doing a fine job of capping and protecting the exterior portion of the chimney. He was extremely helpful showing me the ropes of operating our gas unit and how to open/close the flue (super noobie to having a fireplace) and made suggestions on installing a protective door. We had a wonderful experience with Matt. He's friendly, super responsive, and honest. We recently moved and wanted a good inspection and cleaning of our chimney. Matt was fantastic. He was able to get me in the day before thanksgiving with just a few days heads up! We just bought the home and needed to add a gas log set up, as well as make sure everything would hold up to fires. Wow....wish I'd called Matt long ago. I've never had the chimney swept (house built 6 yrs ago) but figured I should have it done, esp since I was often having the issue of smoke pouing into the room within the first 30 min of lighting fires. First of all, he was already booked out 2 wks but made an exception to squeeze me in. Next, he was very friendly, professional and courteous as he went to work. Finally, the advice (at least 6 recommendations) that I received aside from the thorough cleaning was worth the fee in and of itself. In fact, I wish I'd included him during my warranty inspection as he noted that my chimney length was 3 feet shorter than code which could be contributing to the smoke problem. Matt was awesome. He was able to get the job done at an affordable price, and went way out of his way to help us install a new cap on our chimney, despite the high grade of our roof. On the other hand, if you're comparing chimney sweeps, I would not recommend Capitol Chimney. Walter promised to call me back twice and never did. Because of our high chimney, he informed me that there are a lot of easier jobs to make money on. I'd also advise against All American Chimney Sweeps. He actually came out and looked at our job, promised to call back, and never did. I called him 3 times leaving voicemail, and emailing through his website, no response. I guess like Walter, he decided he didn't want to do the job and rather than telling me directly, left me hanging for several days by sending me to voicemail/ignoring my emails. I just uploaded a picture of their website which hopefully with help you. I am only basing this on two phone conversations I had with Matt. Here is the problem I had, I recently bought a house and the home inspector told us we had a chimney problem and it was causing a leak in our house. I called Matt and sent him an email with the details asking for a free estimate as he advertised on his webpage, he called back the next day. He told me that I probably didn't have a chimney problem, and that he didn't do free estimates, I asked about the webpage, and he was like that is old and outdated, and that I needed to pay for him to come out and inspect the chimney. I just had the chimney inspected by the home inspector, and I thought his webpage was bait and switch it isn't fair you advertise one thing and then don't offer it. He told me he is honest and forthright and everyone loves him because he always tells people before he charges them, to which I said except on your webpage. He got upset and told me to stop haranguing him. I think it's a consumer protection issue, you can't advertise things you don't offer, if you advertise something you should uphold your offer especially when it is on your webpage. read more

Would hire again. I've hired ACE Chimney twice in the past two years to sweep my chimney. Responsive, timely, and reasonably priced. I have a prefabricated chimney (not masonry) that Matt and his assistant Drew swept in about 45 minutes. Also climbed on the roof to ensure my chimney spark arrestor and crown were intact. Matt had some recommendations for me to improve my fireplace which I appreciate. He also took the time to show me how to take the doors off my fireplace so I can overhaul them rather than spending a lot of money to replace. read more

Just had my chimney swept, before the busy season starts, as I do every year. Tried this gentleman based Yelp reviews. I couldn't be happier with this decision, and I'll tell you why. Last season, another chimney sweep which will remain anonymous, wrote me an estimate for $600 to replace my damper. So when ACE came out, I was ready to get hear the same thing from them. It turns out that the damper door was rusted open, and within 10 minutes Matt (the owner) had repaired it to perfect condition! I offered to pay for the repair...he wouldn't hear of it.. AWESOME! Since I had never had the chimney cleaned in over 20 years wanted to have someone inspect. They came out and said the chimney itself was great and perfectly clean so nothing needed (gas fireplace) but saw that the cap needed to be replaced as it looked like a limb had dented it and messed up the screen. Came back 2 weeks later and replaced the cap and I am all set. Very professional and quick service. read more

I had Matt out to clean the chimney of a house built in 1920. He came out but would not clean the chimney as he said he could not state that the fireplace would be safe to use after cleaning. His assurance of safety was not an expectation that I had. While the chimney may need a liner to ensure safety, It was not clear that ACE would not clean the chimney unless I committed to the installation of a liner. I applaud ACE for holding its position on this but they need to be very clear that issues that they find must but be corrected (by them or someone else, but I expect them) in order for them to clean the chimney and firebox. read more
