We have two propane, non-wood burning fireplaces, one inside and one outside on the open patio. The inside stopped lighting. Roman, the technician did a thorough evaluation and was helpful with recommendations. He suggested a new gas train assembly and said the our fireplace was set-up for a blower to improve heat flow but did not have it. After he installed the above, our family room was heated so much better than in past winters with the addition of the blower. The outs fireplace also did not light correctly & he was able to figure out the problem, fix it and advised us that we did not need a new replacement. The cold season had them booked but they sent him within a week. Regina was also helpful with our need for flexible scheduling. We had Abraham here for fireplace & chimney inspection and dryer vent cleaning. It's been a year since we moved in, and who knows when was the last time those got done. They were very thorough and explained everything. I have zero ideas about fireplaces; we never used this (or any other). We got details on the parts missing, the ones that need replacement, and an easy-to-understand quote on the job. And info on what if we replaced the whole thing. (It's a very old system we have.) They could not make the fireplace work, so we'll need to figure out options from now. It's so old even the manufacturer is out of business. The dryer vent was a surprise job. We tried to DIY it but couldn't make the brush go through. Per Abraham, it hasn't been cleaned in 5-10 years. It was clogged. So the initial estimate went up to double the price, but it was a much bigger job than expected, so it's totally understandable. They were upfront about the change and had me approve the new quote before the job. All cool. We have a very odd-shaped (old) vent, so it's not round. Super hard to clean. Now, I can finally feel the breeze coming in from the vent as I took a peak at the vent. (After removing the shiny tube thing.) They did a great job so that air can flow now. And the end of the vent can be seen as a tiny dot in the images. YAYYY. We were likely a hair away from a fire happening. It was so very clogged. Big phew. But now, we'll stay on top of it. We noticed our clothes dryer was not drying our clothes so I tried to clean the vent behind my dryer. It was not too bad so thought it may be the vent/exhaust fan that extends through the attic/roof. It was a vent that appeared to not be installed properly and it was clogged; however, it fell apart into three pieces and I could not fix or get it back into the roof so that was a problem. I reached out to Chimney Star and explained the situation to Abraham. He informed me that they had a long lead time but after my pleading was able to squeeze me in that day to inspect and give me a quote. He highlighted that in fact the exhaust duct was the incorrect size and they would replace it with the correct size the next day. The crew showed up first thing in the morning to install the new duct through the attic/roof, cleaned out the duct in the wall, and another employee verified that it was working correctly (which involved getting on the roof). I did not get any other quotes because I was in a bind and needed the fix done quickly but the response time and quality of work was above expectations.
