I called Matt over a weekend to request a chimney cleaning and inspection. I've struggled with smoke flowing into my house when trying to burn wood fires for years. Matt responded quickly and fit me in just a couple days later while on his way home from a day's work. He found the chimney didn't need a cleaning and said we'd stick to an inspection charge only. He took a look in and around the firebox, the flue and block in the attic, even the chimney cap. He found the original owner / his builder had never completed the block insulation around the flue in the attic and box above the roofline. YIKES!! Matt provided guidance on how to cover this with my general contractor (I'm in the midst of a renovation) and taught me how to prime the flue and build a low smoke fire when we move back in. Finally, he taught me about firebox intake to flue size ratios and recommended we close (to air) one side of our double sided fireplace because the flue is under-sized (sized for single sided fireplace). It is always hard to get a service person to come to Lago Vista. I don't know why, the view is great. We made the appointment with Matt about a month out. It was summer and we were not in a hurry. He called and confirmed the appointment and to let us know he was on the way. He and an assistant were on time. They reviewed our situation and thoroughly checked our fireplace and chimney out and made several recommendations as well as told us what the problem was not. They installed a smoke guard as the firebox was larger than the flu pipe could accommodate. They were very professional, personable, and courteous. I would certainly hire them again. Now we just have to wait until it gets cold enough to use the fireplace to see if the fix works. Really hope so. read more

I found ACE on a Google search and saw the awesome reviews on Yelp. I called right away. He was very nice and professional on the phone. He gave an honest estimate of services which were dryer vent cleaning, chimney cleaning and minor repairs to chimney. He arrived early (called first to make sure I was home) and was in and out within an hour. He inspected what I services I requested and found out that the dryer vent was pretty clean he just need to stick his hand up there and take all the gunk out. He also inspected the minor cracks in the chimney box and said they are so minor that he wouldn't even suggest to fix them (the only reason I requested that service was because the home inspector suggested a chimney sweep look at it to make sure it was safe). He didn't charge for services he didn't perform. Very honest professional. FYI, cash is king. I will def be calling him again for future cleanings. He talked me through everything he would be doing and after the service explained how it went and what to I can do to clean it in the future. So I needed a chimney repair and called this guy. 1. he said he would have to charge me $50 to come out and give me an estimate even though his site says "...FREE ESTIMATES in Central Austin..."; he said this would include a "fireplace and chimney inspection" 2. he came out and looked at the problem on the roof. Then he came inside ans stuck his head in fireplace for literally about 10 seconds and then said " Yep looks fine!". That was the "inspection". He tehn said he would get back to me with a repair estimate the next day 3. 3 days LATER i had not heard from him so i called him - no answer only an answering machine (meanwhile it rains and my chimney is leaking into the house) 4. next day called him back again and he answered; I asked whats the estimate? He says he does not want to do the job because it is too hard for him because he is a one person operation. 5. So i say what about my $50? He says he will mail me a refund check. 6. he never sent the check. p.s. I was calm and polite in all communications read more

Matt is a true professional at his craft. I had contacted two other chimney servicing companies in January, supplied them with technical information, pictures, measurements to replace a rear refractory in my Heatilator unit along with an order to perform a chimney and dryer vent sweep but never received any communication back on cost, date for service even after sending a follow up email to get the job done. I saw all of the 5 star reviews about Absolute Chimney Experts and decided to give A.C.E a call. Matt the owner answered my call and we talked about what I needed done. He gave me a quote immediately on the phone and we scheduled a date and time for service. Mind you our house is in Lago Vista a little out of his normal area, but said it was no problem. Matt called and hour and a half prior to arriving and was at our front door precisely at 9:30 as scheduled and was finished by 12:30. Matt swept the chimney and dryer vent and had brought refractory panels in case we wanted to replace the back panel. Matt inspected the panel and said it was not too bad but we were concerned with the hairline fissures so told him to replace it. He had the exact panel with a brick pattern, cut the panel to the exact size and installed it . We are so happy he was able to do it on site and indeed after removal saw that the old panel had a few more seasons of life in it, but we would need a replacement down the road. Matt is very meticulous about his work, very little to sweep up after the job was finished. He even hand picked the dryer lint on the driveway and swept it thoroughly. We were so impressed with his work, and he is a really nice young man. My first impression of Matt was when he pulled down the driveway in a first class work van that was very organized. I knew then that he took a lot of pride in his work. Needless to say, if you need chimney work done, even rebuilding a chimney. A.C.E. Chimney Experts and Matt should be your first call.
