We scheduled an inspection appointment with Alan for 11:00am and he told us it would take about an hour. After the car arrived, he changed the estimated completion time to 2:00 PM. When I called to confirm whether it would actually be finished by then, he suddenly said he didn't know when it would be done. Five minutes later, he called back and said he wasn't going to inspect the car at all. The entire experience was extremely unprofessional. There was poor communication, constantly changing information, and no respect for our time. I would not recommend doing business with someone who handles appointments this way. Staggeringly Dishonest! A Calculated Scam, Not an Oversight. I am writing this review from a place of sheer disbelief. My experience at this shop transcended poor service and entered the realm of a deliberate, premeditated scam. I am utterly appalled. The job was straightforward: replace a pulley and a light bulb on my Range Rover. To make it simple, I provided both the new pulley and the new light bulb myself.A total price for the complete job was quoted and agreed upon. The deception unfolded as follows: The Assurance: On the day of pickup, my boyfriend called to specifically confirm the more complicated light bulb had been installed. The owner explicitly confirmed it was going to be done by the time I picked it up. The Discovery:After driving home, I found the light was dead. I then discovered the brand-new bulb I provided had been deliberately hidden under a grocery bag in my passenger seat,right where the pulley used to be and they had actually replaced. This is the proof they had the part but chose not to do the work. The Lie & Extortion:When I called, the owner first claimed I "never asked" for the light to be fixed. When that failed, he audaciously stated that completing the job I had already paid for would now "COST ME EXTRA". Let me be perfectly clear: This shop took payment for a job they intentionally left unfinished, hid the evidence of their fraud in my car, and then, when caught, attempted to extort more money to fix their own deception. This is predatory behavior. They are not mechanics, they are con artists who bet on you not checking their work. The audacity is staggering. Do not be their next victim. These guys need to be taken down. Total scam artist this guy. Took my f-type in. I wanted some things done for 3000. He was willing, even for the price, but would confirm if that was the best course. Coincidentally, he "found the problems," and they coincidentally were simpler jobs than my recommendations, but also a little more at the same time. OK. As long as I get my car fixed. The thing is...he never knew how to fix the car. It's still mostly the same except for one part, that I said would be a last priority...aka...not to be done unless we were all good on everything else. Who do these people think they are just fixing random stuff and charging thousands. Who cares about a vap leak? I need my problem fixed. At least if the seals had been replaced like I asked, maybe there would be a chance of the oil no longer getting into the cylander and thebrpm going crazy...info I had to get from another shop. I took my truck, '98 LR D1, in to Absolute on Monday for service as the transmission gear got stuck on reverse while pulling out of my parking spot. Quickly, I was given a rough estimate on the cost of repair which was about $2K (worst case scenario). I was assured that a more accurate quote would be given once the assessment was complete. On Tuesday, a follow up call included the following: 1) no need to rebuild transmission as it only needed a few tweaks. So the initial projection cost went from $2k to a little over $400 (79% drop) to cover labor 2) discovered coolant leak in one of the hoses. Problem solved by tightening some connections. No charge. $0 3) brakes needed immediate attention. Two wheels had no brakes (used up) and the discs were grossly damaged for all the braking. Other two just needed the brakes services. That cost me about $1100-1200 (abs compatibility required). Cant mess with that! 4) front suspensions need attention. They're pretty much out of commission. For this, I was quoted $500. He suggested that I take care of that as soon as I can. So, total cost was about 25% less than the initial rough quote AND I got the brake service taken care of with the added coolant leak fix freebie. I truly appreciate how honest they are and how professionally involved they get with the assessments. They told me what I needed based on that and they left it up to me to either get the service recommendations or not. At the end of the day, its my truck and I'll be the one driving it. A personal side note as some reviews that I have read touch on this and again, personal side note : if they do not appear "friendly" or "warm" when you interact with the mechanics or front desk personnel, keep in mind - you're there to get your vehicle serviced by a skilled mechanic. Ask the questions you need answers to and they will gladly & patiently answer them. Tell them if you need help prioritizing service recommendations or if you disagree with their assessment. Whatever you do, do it respectfully. In the process you will be surprised how your perception changes. And if you have no time in being awesome, there are other shops around. I searched high and low for a shop to fix what a previous shop had damaged. After much searching I fortunately found this shop. They rebuilt the engine to my car and after one year it's still running well. Even when there were a few adjustments needed after having it rebuilt they worked with me to get it running right. No additional charges. And unlike several other shops, (which Atlantic British recommended by the way and I wasted $1100.00 with them) Allen always spoke respectfully and never tried to dismiss or ignore my questions He made me feel he could be trusted with salesman talk. Allan was a nice guy, definitely knows Rovers... the employees seem not to... I had an air shock replaced, it was a bum part. I took it back after another shop I had a battery replacement with had. Priced it sagged only on the right side when parked... he charged me for the diagnostic (although in fairness his guy did patch a hole in my tire- but charged me and told me he had done a leak test and the shock was working as expected... one month later the car is still sagging on the right and I take it to Hi Tech to get it looked at. They tell me the left shock is busted now and the right shock is leaking (and the wrong shock for this model!) I took it back to Allan at Absolute after Hi Tech had put two new american made shocks in... Allen finally refunded me for the shock ONLY, no labor or diagnostic fees. He proceeded to tell me Hi Tech were lying about the shocks and to look up the serial numbers, which I did and they proved to be the correct shocks! I will never return to Absolute on Hoover (and it would be cool if Allan would wear a mask around customers. read more

I specifically as them about the engine and transmission. The manager laughed and said no it's fine just needs new plugs. Payed $2000 for that. Noticed a week later engine light came on and took it back. The manager then told me my coolant is leaking into engine and the vehicle is junk. Recommend I sell to another person so it's their problem. Overall they got my money & I'm stuck with a POS car. All of this could have been avoided had they told me the issue from the initial inspection that cost me $150 cause I would have been able to return the vehicle to the dealership that sold me it within my 48 hour purchase grace period. read more

Terrible service. Bought in my LR3 with an electrical problem and an engine light warning. They told me they could not do anything about the electrical problem, and the engine light they said fixed but 2 weeks later it is back. More than anything, their attitude was really like they did not care to have my business, since I did not have a straight forward problem. It's a Land Rover for god's sake, when is it going to to straight forward!? Took it to Independent Landrover Complete Auto Service, 407 S Central Ave in Glendale and they fixed the electrical problem, which was exactly what I had suspected and they were nice, gave options and advice. Absolute Rover at no surprise given the admittedly stunning workshop comes in highly recommended here on Yelp as the often referred to go-to Rover shop of LA. How this is possible is beyond me... To get to the less mechanically relevant details: let's just acknowledge that Alan does NOT wear a mask in his shop. Let that sink in. Beyond a health and safety point of view, from a customer service perspective, I think that's worth noting as you're rarely discussing anything to do with the service with anyone other than him directly (his employees do wear masks). So, setting the scene for that kind of cavalier attitude:  His demeanor is less than welcoming or informative once you get into the service details or breakdowns, or any topic he would love to let you know he is an expert on by discounting and disregarding your position or even general questions. There is no way really to understand why this is, it just is. Nothing is positively framed, he leaves you with the maybes, no certainty - even after dropping thousands, expect him to literally shrug.  As far as the work...yes it may seem as though Alan has extensive knowledge, but do his employees? When I took my car into another shop with old school Land Rover-trained mechanics they called the Absolute Rover work "good on paper" and "half-completed." These guys were top notch and good people, what they really meant is that the work was subpar at best. In truth, it was unsafe.   For example, several of the parts from a recent service were installed correctly in the air but not considered while on the ground, and...in use. While I don't think this was nefarious or on purpose as to come back into Absolute, it should suggest that you're really not getting what you think you're paying for. Again, Alan may have the know-how or cred (how this is, is again, is beyond me) but he's definitely not the one under your car. All and all, I would highly suggest avoiding this place - not because of the fact that it's completely unsafe COVID-wise, not because of the exorbitantly high labor costs for in truth, standard, slightly better than dealership service - but because you're guaranteed to find a small shop focused on English and German motors with someone who is safely willing to discuss the process with you, not dismissing your commentary with an apathetic run-down of BS services that are barely done correctly, if at all.  A dozen Rovers in the shop means that a dozen people should be going somewhere else. Don't be fooled for the aesthetic or the baseless reviews - avoid this place at all costs and if anyone works for the city regarding COVID safety...yikes read more

The guy in office called up Land Rover dealership in front of me on speaker and as soon as he gets onto parts department takes it off speaker. Gets off phone and says part is $640 which seemed a little high for a 1 strut to open rear door. Did the job everything working well so far but decided to check the dealer website that I heard him call, the strut was $195. He overcharged me $445. Called him back and he claimed he ordered from somewhere else other than the dealer he called in front of me and quoted me from. Shady business. I didn't even mind paying a little more for the labor. But once I took it to a different mechanic after being charged almost $1000 with still no guarantee as to why it's broken, I got it finally fixed. This auto shop is about to lose their license. I took my Jaguar to get fixed, I was told it would cost me $3000. To get fixed without showing me anything specifically just told verbally! When I questioned the owner he got in my car yelled at me as he was driving it out of his shop and crashed it against his own wall! I yelled at him, to stop because he didn't realize he crash into the wall and was going to cause more damage to both his wall and my car! When he got out of the car he was in an absolute rage. He said a few bad words and told his worker not to worry about it, because he ran to the front of the shop where we were standing. After he saw the damage he cause he offered to fix the bumper and the damage he caused below the bumper. I asked him to take my car out of the shop but he said no at that time and told me to take it out. Before I did I took a picture of him in my car next to the wall he had crashed my car into. When he saw me taking the picture he almost ran me over with my own car. I yelled at him to stop and I yelled at his worker to see what he had tried to do to me (run me over) he's workers loyalty is to his boss so he put his head down and pretended like he didn't see anything. At that point, I knew the owner of this shop could actually hurt me so I got in my car and slowly pulled it car out of the shop and parked right in front of his shop. I've been going to these guys for years. I have a LR disco2. They are very honest. Strait forward and knowledgeable. Besides keeping my rig in great condition for years. We even got to the point where we had to rebuild the engine and they redid it flawlessly. They even handled all my upgrades and generally treat my truck better then I do. I'm always abusing it and pushing the engine to its limit so I'm confident I'm getting the best service and most honest diagnosis and even presented with cost affective options if I need some extra time. There is another LR repair shop near my home that I've used, but they are super expensive. So I decided to give Absolute Rover a shot and couldn't be more pleased. The service was fast, efficient, friendly, and they were very honest about what my car needed and what could wait until I had more money. Been taking my 2001 BMW M3 to Absolute for over 2 years the service is great, their work is solid and turn around time is quick but most importantly they're honest. Recently my M3 was leaking coolant after doing research online I narrowed it down to needing a new water pump and drove my car in expecting to do this pricey job, after the guys at Absolute inspected the car they told me I didn't need a new pump, I needed to replace a connection point that had a bad seal. Complete Abandonment. Went in because I read the Yelp reviews.... thought they would be true to the reviews. Unfortunately, farthest from the truth. Alex was nice enough but I felt that once he discerned that my repairs were being paid by the insurance company... he suddenly changes his tune. He immediately represented that he would charge me $2000 approximately to take apart my engine. This was all fine with me. You should get paid for the work you do. My insurance adjuster however, many times,stated that Alex would not work within the confines of the insurance settlement. Even this was fine because not all people need or want to deal with insurance companies. Absolutely understandable. The reason for the one star review is the Abandonment Issue. Let's just say he loaded all the dismantled engine parts into a few boxes, placed them in the trunk and told me to go elsewhere. His excuse.... I have lost both my mechanics. Really!!!! Are mechanics not responsible to reassemble, remedy any unfinished work? Is this in the confines of professional behavior for this type of profession. I have 2 Land Rover vehicles. I take them in regularly. I drop at least $400 at very LEAST, every time, and thats because I decline many of the "other services" they "suggest". I believe they are skilled when it comes to this specific brand of vehicle, but DO NOT EXPECT: 1.warm friendly service (his wife is friendly), even though I've taken my vehicles to them for over 5 years. They will send you a Christmas card. 2. a discount of any kind for loyal consistent service and/or referrals.Like I mentioned before I have been a loyal customer, with two Rover vehicles, for over 5 years, and have paid my balance IN FULL EVERY visit. 3.them to take responsibility for their mistakes. For example, on a recent visit, I noticed, after taking my car in for service, that the ALIGNMENT was off when I received the car back. It was not "off" prior to the service. I asked the owner about it and he became very DEFENSIVE. He never offered to correct it and sent me on my way. Hence, I have not gone back for any "minor" services and am looking for other options. I'm even considering bringing my car back into the dealer. 4. local car service. They might call you a cab. They've been at this location, dealing with LUXURY cars and charging LUXURY prices for many years, the least they can do for customers, at least loyal and local is offer car service to the nearest coffee shop, etc. read more

Beware!!!!! is my opinion. I took my Discovery in due to a clogged air conditioning drain. The fix that. Then I was that the "Service Engine Soon" light was on. Well, I didn't remember it being on when I drove in and I was suspicious because it seemed to be running fine. I forgot about it for a few months, I don't drive much so it's easy to do for me to do, then took it in to my neighborhood fix it guy. He said someone had disconnected all the cables and that's why the "Service Engine Soon" light was on. In my opinion places like this give auto repair shops a bad name. read more

I usually go to the dealer for everything but once I had to go to Vegas and needed new brake pads before I left. I called the dealer and they couldn't fit me into their schedule prior to my departure. I found Absolute Rover on the Internet and they were awesome. Same day appointments and much closer from where I work than Hornburg Service up in Hollywood. Most of everything I do is covered under the extended warranty so I still have to go to the dealer. However, brakes and rotors are not covered under the warranty and the dealer price is way expensive. Last time I took my car in for scheduled servicing, the dealer told me I needed brakes and rotors and quoted me $1,700. I took it to Absolute Rover and got it done for $1,100. Just called them up and they told me to bring it in and had the car back to me on the same day. read more
