We were looking for somewhere for a late lunch while passing through the area and relied on Yelp for an option and was not disappointed. Located in a strip mall we walked in and were immediately greeted and seated. We were the only ones in the restaurant, but there was a steady flow of customers picking up take out orders. My husband started with Shrimp in a Blanket. It was several shrimp in a spring roll and fried He enjoyed them and the were larger than we expected. He also had a bowl of wonton soup. He had the Smile Crispy Chicken, the portion was again larger than we expected. The Chicken was lightly battered and crispy and tossed with onions. It was very tasty ! I had the chicken pad thai and was not disappointed. It had a good amount of sweetness without being too sweet. Service was very good and attentive. This is a good Thai option in the area. read more

This might just be my favorite Thai food in the area as of now. Randomly found this place on yelp. We found out they've been open for two months now. Replaced an old Thai restaurant that used to be here. Same chef, but different menu. Owners were super nice. They were able to move some tables around to seat us (a larger group). Khao soi Noodle: I was introduced to this once in Toronto and haven't seen it yet around here. The owners mentioned it was their specialty, so we had to try it. It was really good .. I'd probably get it next time we come. It was basically noodles in curry topped with crunchy thick .. noodles? Flavor was great. It was too spicy for my kids, but perfect for the adults. Yellow curry (non spicy): This was really good as well. My oldest kid really liked it, but it was still a little spicy for him. He loved it though and pushed through the spice because the flavor was so good. Both our curries were a hit, and I'd definitely be back to try some of the other curries. Pad See Ewe: This also had a really good flavor. My kids ate it all, so I didn't get to try too much of it. I'd get this again as well, but hoping to try out their pad thai next time. Eggplant basil with ground chicken: good, but I'm not sure if this would be on my list to get again. The eggplant could have been cooked a little softer in my opinion. I would love if the basil flavor were enhanced as well. We did get this not spicy as well, so maybe the mild version is a little more flavorful. To note, our friend got the ground chicken, and it looked exactly the same as the eggplant basil with ground chicken, just the eggplant basil had extra eggplant added to it. Catfish basil: very good. And different from what I had pictured. The catfish was crispy, so maybe deep fried? Taste was good. All in all, had a surprisingly really good first experience here. Food was great. Solid spot if you're looking for Thai food in the Palatine area. To me, most of the Thai restaurants in the area are very similar in terms of menu and food quality (through Gumrai Thai feels like it has a minor Chinese inspiration). Smile is be a good choice if you're near the Harper College area, looking for a less busy Thai restaurant, or looking for a spot that's a little more value oriented -- though most of the Thai restaurants or pan-Asian restaurants that serve Thai area are pretty reasonably priced. I tried a variety of items on this visit, and found each to be solid. The pad thai had a fairly good noodle texture with a good balance of sweet and savory. This was overall fairly balanced with a good amount of egg, though I would've preferred a bit more peanut and green onion in the dish. The sweet and sour delight was pretty similar in crispiness and construction to the version I tried at Thai Buri. I was pleased with the crispiness of the batter and liked the generous amount of meat provided. It was also nice to have a generous amount of pepper to soak up the sauce. The panang curry was also fairly well balanced with just the right amount of sweet and savory. It had a good creaminess to it though I felt the basil was a bit muted. The mango mousse cake was a nice way to end the meal with a good creamy texture and delicious mango flavor. Overall, another good Thai option in the suburbs. It's fairly easy to park here and service is friendly. It's also conveniently located near a bubble tea shop if you need to hangout and chat more after your meal. read more

Absolutely gross. Egg rolls aren't homemade. The cucumbers were soggy. The rice wasn't even Thai rice. It was short grain white rice. The aroma of Thai rice has a distinct smell. My husband and I went to the newly opened Smile Thai And Asian Kitchen based on the recommendation of a friend. The decor is inviting and so was the manager. We had the orange chicken and the shrimp pad Thai. I loved the taste of the sauce and the abundant vegetables in the orange chicken. It was sweet without being too sweet. I judge Thai restaurants by their pad Thai. This dish passed the test. Classic and traditional but it was done well. We had the mango mouse cake for dessert. This was amazing. By far the best mango cake I've ever had (and after marrying into an Asian family I've had plenty). Give Smile Thai And Asian Kitchen a try, I highly recommend it! read more

The new additional menus are truly fantastic! Usually, if I crave authentic Isaan (North East Thailand) food, I'd have to make a trip all the way to Chicago, but now I can enjoy it right here. As someone from Thailand who loves Isaan cuisine, I'm so happy to see these menus at Smile Thai. The owner mentioned that the chef is from this region, so you can be confident you'll get genuine flavors. She also mentioned she'll be updating the online menus soon, but you can ask them directly--they're already available. We were very impressed by this new spot in Palatine (I think the city is listed incorrectly on yelp). Our favorite was the khao soi noodle with chicken - the base for the noodles was very tasty with soft noodles, and the dish was topped with crispy noodles for a nice texture. The yellow curry was also very good that wasn't too salty or sweet, which is the balance I personally like when it comes to Thai food since sometimes it can be overwhelmingly sweet at some restaurants. The restaurant owner is super friendly and personable, giving it a nice homie feel. I would definitely come back for the khao soi alone and try some other dishes! read more

Services was prompt and helpful, and after viewing the menu once again it was tough to choose, but in the end I had Khao Soi and wowza first time ever to have this outstanding dish! My wife and I have been in the suburbs for many years and I always wanted to try the Thai restaurant in this strip mall but never did. Aimlessly going through Yelp, I came across a new Thai restaurant called Smile Thai. Turns out this new restaurant is in the same location as the previous restaurant I wanted to try but the food looked much better. During our usual dinner debate, my wife brought up Thai food. Smile Thai immediately came to mind and away we went. Cozy and clean interior with nice decor. The woman helping us was very nice and attentive. We stuck with our usual order to see how the food sized up. Trio platter sampler, chicken Thai fried rice, chicken pad see ew, smile crispy chicken, and my wife had a mango lemonade. The platter was good, standard I would say. I'm not a rice fan but the fried rice was good as was the pad see ew. The smile crispy chicken was really good and crispy. I don't like lemonade but the mango lemonade was actually really good. I'd definitely try the mango green tea next time. Given the first experience, taste and quality of food, and how dangerously close this restaurant is I look forward to trying the entire menu. Just tried Smile Thai for the first time with a pickup order and I was very happy with my experience. I love seeing new Thai options in the suburbs and this place did not disappoint. The Pad Thai was delicious and the mixed fruit lemonades were exactly what I needed on a hot day after work. I was on a business trip and found this cozy Thai spot in the suburbs that close to Woodfield Mall. Went for lunch and had the Basil Lover with shrimp and chicken, added a fried egg on top it really gave that street food vibe and was so tasty. Lunch came with the soup of the day and an egg roll, and the portions were generous for the price.
