I was glad that ABT gave me an early appointment right on the onset of the cold days in single digit during January 2016. The technicians showed up about two hours earlier in the morning as they expected to finish the job by one O'clock in the afternoon. Last time, they only did the air sealing job in my attic and weather stripping the second floor. I received my gas bill later that month and the fuel cost had indeed decreased to about 60% compared to the same period the year before from 11/11/2015 through 12/11/2015. Yeah! This time they came again to finish the attic floor insulation. That day on 1/4/2016 was freezing. It was dropping down to 9 degrees at night. However, after the attic floor insulation, it felt warm inside my second floor and my steam radiators were not even heating up during the evening while the temperature outside was dropping rapidly until the wee hours. The next day we had the same frigid temperature in Boston all day long. Again, my steam radiators didn't heat up until mid night. During that weekend after the attic insulation, I went up to the attic to take a look around. It felt cold up there instead of warm compared to the previous year because the unfinished attic had never been insulated before. That seemed to be a very good indicator that no hot air passed through the ceiling to the attic thanks to the air sealing job plus the new layer of insulation that they put on attic floor. As evidenced from the energy saving improvement, my gas bill in January was only a marginal increase of $11 from the previous month even though there were more cold days in the teens and the 20's during the month of January compared to November and December. So far, the saving realized has already paid for the insulation fee that I had to contribute besides the incentive received from Mass Save. Way to go ABT! read more

The job was to add two new roof vents, seal the attic floor, and blow in more insulation. The forecast was for rain all day, so I figured they'd probably call me at the crack of dawn and tell me they'd have to reschedule, since it wouldn't be safe to go up on the roof. But no, they showed up as scheduled, and told me they'd be happy to do most of the job that day, and come back a different day to install the vents. (I believe it's a pretty long drive from their headquarters to my home in Davis Square.) Then, during about 1 hour of no rain that day, they managed to install the vents too, so they didn't need to come back. They also noticed two minor preexisting leaks in the roof, which I hadn't known about. They not only pointed out the leaks to me, but took a stab at plugging them while they were up there, free of charge. Of course they didn't have time to fully investigate the leaks, so that work isn't guaranteed at all. I'm not actually sure whether the leaks are sealed now. I was also impressed with the way they maneuvered their huge truck into our small back parking area so that the insulation hose could reach the attic, and even more impressed that they managed to get the truck out again after a neighbor parked in their way and couldn't be found to move the car. It's always a wonderful surprise to find a professional who IS professional; timely, competent, considerate of the surroundings, and effective. ABT is all of these things. The prices we were quoted were firm and accurate, the crew showed up exactly when scheduled, the work was done effectively and neatly, the clean-up was great, and the quality control was wonderful. The results were better than we expected and we have a huge old barn of a home right on the water, creating all types of problems; access (when you have 4 floors and only one side of the house has a sidewalk while everything else is water), construction certainty (the house was built in 1892 and the As-Builts are a joke) and effectiveness. In 2 days following job completion, we were hit with 0 degree temperatures. Our indoor ambient temperatures held and even went up and it is the first time our heating system could keep the house warm in 27 years. ABT is also quite knowledgeable about energy efficiency, available products, recommendations based on site-specific conditions, and dealing with government rebate and grant programs. I would recommend ABT to anyone who has a drafty home with lots of quirks in an impossible location buffeted by fierce winds. read more

We used ABT as the contractor to install insulation in our attic. They are one of the vendors on the list of approved contractors working with National Grid Rebate Program. From the initial phone call, to the home visit and estimate, to the completion of the job, my husband and I were impressed with the professionalism of the representative (Romaine) and quality of the work performed. Five workers showed up and they were all polite, hard workers: conscientious of keeping our floors protected while they worked. They were at our house for about 10 hours and worked steadily along. No breaks, no standing around talking on their cell phones. It's rare to find a company to work with whose people are polite and professional, who do what they say they will do, stick to the estimate price, show up on time, AND do a great job. He did very decent job on air sealing within whole attic. I am defiantly feeling the difference after air sealing. This is an amazing benefit to any homeowner. Through MassSave, I paid a much reduced rate for the whole installation. The crew arrived as scheduled and were very professional. They were careful in removing the cedar siding on my home and were mindful of my plantings and shrubs around the foundation. They came in to assess the walls of my home to make sure and not apply too much pressure which could have damaged walls during the blow in. The difference in the amount of air leaking from my home was quite dramatic with this installation of blown in cellulose. I am looking forward to reduced costs of my heating and air conditioning expenses. José and Walter were professional, friendly, efficient, and respectful of the property. They were helpful throughout the process, completed the job in 2 days, and cleaned up well afterward. My house felt warmer on the first cold day, even before the heat was on. In addition, José averted a dangerous situation while replacing the dryer vent hose in the attic with an insulated one. They called the day before the scheduled date and were actually able to start that day 1 day early. After determining the cause of my old drafty house, they returned the next morning. This is the 5th insulation job I've had done (multiple houses), and the 3rd insulator I've used. ABT was the best of the 3, and they were all pretty good. Israel & Val did the installation, were prompt and enjoyable fellas to have around the house for 2 days. They were very self-sufficient: I just unlocked the house, showed them the electrical breaker & left for work. Tianna did the scheduling & it was effortless. They worked extremely hard & were more rigorous that other providers (e.g. insulated near the electrical service entrance to the house, whereas other providers skipped that part of the wall entirely). They removed & reinstalled aluminum siding, which is prone to dents & damage, but I've noticed zero damage. read more

ABT did spray foam insulation in my basement this summer and I hired them again through Mass Save for cellulose in the attic. I dealt with Andre for the basement and Will for the attic and both were very good to deal with, very professional. They arrived each day right on time and although insulation can get messy, they cleaned up everything. Both Will and Andre took the time to explain exactly what they were going to do, how long the project would take and the results were even better than I expected. I'm looking forward to lower heating bills and a warmer house this winter. We were very pleased with the service provided by ABT. The team, led by a warm, polite, friendly but very professional Jose, worked hard in not very pleasant weather conditions for 3 days to get the insulation job done. They were very careful to double-check their work, using their little infrared gizmo to check from the walls from the inside, to make sure they didn't miss any spots. We are now toasty warm as the temperatures plunge--a new experience for us! My only complaint is that they didn't clean around the front entrance as thoroughly as they should have. I was very happy with ABT. They arrived and introduced themselves as Will and Evan. They answered all my questions and were very polite. They did all the work and cleaned up beautifully. They had to go in and out of the house to get supplies and made sure the door was closed each time, that has not been my experience with other contractors.
