If I could give them 0 I would worse customer experience. The lady thats in the register didn't get her name latina, dark hair. I came in I was talking to my sister I never asked her anything right away she said theres no seats. I get its rush hour. Her reaction was like no his here first screaming. She was so rude I said were taking it to go. Screaming said what do you want. Excuse me that's not a way to talk to the customers. A previous person left same reason because she was rude. First didn't even greet us. Second has a nasty attitude towards customers. Third dont work in customer service if you don't know how to treat people or talk to them. read more

El Indio is a must in my family. We all go to El Indio for some comfort Mexican food. Some dishes are more traditional than others. The place is packed but the tables move along rather quickly. The table layout could be improved for their own efficiency and more business. More tables for two could speed it along instead of having larger parties having to wait for a table that only two guests are sitting at. Tortas, tacos, gorditas, coffee, agua de horchata - delicious. The jalapeños and carrots en escabeche (pickled) are sooo good. The jalapeños toreados are also such a complimentary touch. I heard about their vegan options and decided to try them. I thought the food was pretty good, but not amazing. Torta Cubana Vegana (when ordered sans mayo, eggs, or tomatoes) - it was a good sandwich but would've been so much better with vegan; it was dry without it. Vegan mayo is sold pretty much everywhere, so there's really no excuse not to have it as an option when you market and sell vegan sandwiches. Tacos - I tried the soya pastor (no sour cream, no tomatoes) and the soya asada. They were both ok. Nothing that stood out with regards to flavors. They do give you a lot of vegan protein; they aren't skimpy at all with the portion. The horchata was good. read more

It seems like every time we go back it gets worse at this location. My family has visited these restaurants since they were a whole in the wall. We know the owners and most of the older staff. So recently we stopped at Indio (63rd & Pulaski) in the afternoon for dinner. The restaurant was cold, freezing if you're sitting next to a window, the bathroom (besides being cold) it had tissue everywhere, even outside the bathroom floor. The toilet was dirty(with urine) the changing table dirty, and no soap..... you wonder if the employees washed their hand b4 touching your food. The wait staff was not great. We waited for the waitress to tend the table behind us(who arrived 10mins after us) to call her over and give us some coffee. Idk that I'd recommended this place anymore. This used to be the place to stop at after someone came in to visit since it's so close to Midway, I'm definitely not going to take anyone here anymore. U don't know what you're going to find. While searching on Yelp for vegan restaurants near my home, I came across Indio 2. I'm not vegan, but I am interstested in earning Yelp's Carrot Top badge and it requires visits to vegan restaurants. Two of my Yelp friends had been here and enjoyed their visits, so I really looked forward to mine! It started out well. The place looked nice enough and we easily found a table. Our server showed up pretty quickly and was a very nice young man. He brought us our drinks and took our orders. I ordered a steak burrito minus the lettuce and a cup of coffee. Although the coffee tasted very good, it was lukewarm. I was just happy it tasted strong enough. As we waited for our food, a panhandler stopped at our table asking for a dollar. The guy reads faces very well because we never had to say a word and he moved on to the next table. Deduct one star for allowing panhandlers to approach customers. Our food showed up. I hadn't thought to mention easy on the salt, though I doubt it would have made a difference. I did remember to say "no lettuce" and that was on my burrito. So I tried to pull off as much lettuce as I could as I made my way thru the first half. I figured I would take the second half home and do a better job of cleaning off the lettuce. In retrospect, I wish I would have done that. I mentioned the lettuce to our server. He offered to correct it and took the plate back. That was very nice of him. However, about this time, my friend finished his non-chicken chicken sandwich. He did enjoy his sandwich. I waited for a burrito minus lettuce. My burrito returned and although there was not THAT much lettuce on the first one, this one seemed a lot thinner. I also realized there was no rice in the burrito. I don't believe there was rice in the first one and I thought there was supposed to be. At any rate, I was not feeling all that great eating the first half of the second burrito, so I decided not to eat or take home the other half. My friend was curious about the burrito and tried the half I was going to leave. We then waited a long time to get our check. Minus another star. When I got home, I realized that I would probably feel better if I took some pepto bismal. My friend contacted me after he got home and said the steak burrito did not agree with him either. It's about 4 hours later and time for some more pepto bismal. Minus two more stars. read more

Don't tell anyone I went to a VEGAN restaurant. They serve meat too, but I went full-vegan. The L word is over used so it becomes less meaningful, but I really do Lurv this place. My doctor said soy reduces testosterone so I'm not going to make a habit of fake meat, but I always give credit where it's due: The Torta Cubana was out... of... this... world. (Dramatic pauses build suspense). To quote Frankenstein's creation: Bread goood. Very satisfied with the torta. The soy was not detectable as such. Soy chicken, soy sausage, and soy bacon. Nopalitos goood. Nopales are baton slices of cactus sauteed with onions and pasilla peppers. Deep, rich flavor. Best tasting vegetable side I can remember. Texture good and firm too. They have a drive thru, which surprised me. I like the atmosphere inside so I'll never drive thru. Some reviews mention a language barrier but I had no problems. They have a breakfast menu, dessert menu, and all the meat. I don't recall seeing seafood. If I lived closer I could imagine eating here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But not all the soy. Meat goood. Vegans, vegetarians, and non-hippies alike will enjoy the depth and complexity of this food, and the familial atmosphere. Git here now! P. S. This place came highly recommended by a Yelp friend (thanks again!) The restaurant was easy to find, clean and service was great. Our very nice male server gave us our drinks and brought roasted jalapenos and two tasty salsas. I waited, looked around, waited some more then realized that we weren't getting chips haha. This is the first Mexican restaurant (for me) that doesn't serve chips at the table lol. But I didnt understand why when they place the beautiful salsas in front of you. Of course the salsas went on my tacos and my friend's gordita, but I was puzzled. Their vegetarian food is really good and unique! Ordered two soy steak tacos, two soy chicken tacos and a vegetarian burrrito. The vegetarian tacos were on point. Onions and cilantro add an authentic flare. The burrito was so big for the price. That alone, earned them two stars. Also, the salsa they served on the side was so good! I also ordered a medium bean and rice which came in these large containers. I knew this place had veggie options but I had a bad experience at el Faro and thought they were affiliated. I'll be honest I was worried that no one would speak English and therefore not know what "vegan" meant. I hate having to explain sometimes and just wanted some food quickly. Luckily I was able to ask upfront if the soy meat was vegan and they knew what I was talking about, it was a young girl who helped me. There is nothing Vegan on the south side so I'm very happy to find this place. It's not solely a vegan place but they have a vegetarian section which can be veganized. I love that I can enjoy going to an authentic Mexican restaurant again, and be able to order vegan tacos. At first I was like, I hope they made it delicious. I've had some poor attempts at different restaurants. I've had almost every vegan option on this menu. My go to's are tacos soy Al Pastor and their vegetarian Cubano torta. #yum! They have to work on the seasoning for the soy asada and the chicken. It's very bland. Vegan doesn't mean bland. Flavors can be a lot better. Get some comino and onions and garlic going. Best vegan asada tacos on the southside! My gf really likes the soy chicken with nopales but i like to keep it classic with the soy asada. the soy chorizo is pretty decent too. The only downfall of this place is that lack of a good spicy salsa. A good salsa is half the flavor and experience for me. They do serve two salsas but neither of them are spicy and they both have onion and cilantro which I'm not a fan of. But they do give you a grilled jalapeño, so that saved the entire meal for me lol i def recommend this place tho. The prices are extremely reasonable and service is good. read more

Why?! I loved this place, you guys! I really did. It's hard finding good meatless options in the area and I was sure I'd struck gold. The soy tacos are great. Al Pastor, Tinga and Pollo were my personal favorites. Their agua de Jamaica was a little too sweet for my taste but watered down it was great. Also, the serving was huge so I felt like I had 64 ounces (with it being watered down; not complaining). It was all good until I got up to pay one day and I saw the busboy clear some tables and take the dishes behind the counter. No big deal! Then I saw him grab the the salsa that was just on the table and pour it into a big container. He did the same with the three little salsa containers (the black ones that they bring out with the chips) and left it on the prep table in the kitchen. Curious to see what was to be done with that leftover salsa, the one that the previous guests had JUST (double) dipped their chips into, I lingered around. I wasted time, made small talk with the cashier, inquired about their dessert options... That's when I saw it! One of the taqueros reused the salsa and packed it in to-go containers. Other workers noticed my shocked and disgusted face and nudged the guy to take the big container of used salsa toward the back but the guy that did it smirked and walked away. The damage was done. Not even their great tasting tacos could save their total disregard for food sanitation. Listen, I've worked at a Mexican restaurant. I understand that many people don't finish or just taste the salsa that's brought to the table and leave it, meaning throwing it out is wasteful BUT saving it? That isn't a way to run a restaurant. If you're worried about that then don't fill the containers to the brim. Bring smaller portions of salsa to the table and if the customer wants more than they can just ask. You wouldn't lose money that way and you'd be following proper health regulations. So sadly, I won't be back. read more

Been here a few times and it is constantly good. I was here yesterday for diner. I had pork meat in green sauce. The meat was tender and the sauce was really good, not too tangy and not too spicy. My friends had chicharron en salsa roja and queso panela a la parrilla (grilled cheese). The queso comes with delicious tomato sauce that some how brings out the flavor of the cheese. This dish also comes with salad, rice and black beans. We have also had the chiles rellenos, they are good (not as good as my moms', but they are good. But again no body makes better chiles rellenos than her so) As said before, they have many of the same dishes as El Faro. the menu is not as extensive. But they do have some of the favorite vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. Dessert lovers, they have the Faro cake here. I'm a long time resident of the neighborhood and have been going here since they opened. The breakfasts are good and cheap from Huevos Rancheros (the sauce is excellent) to the Soy Chorizo with scrambled organic eggs (no funny after taste) served with rice and beans. The "Torta" veggie "Cubano" is also very flavorful. They really took a giant step up by offering Vegetarian entrees and they havn't failed. They also have good original Mexican soups that are very good and other good lunch/dinner options most under $10. Meat, chicken and pork dishes are also excellent. The wait staff is friendly and personable with carry out on most offerings. This has always been a restaurant, first called "Heap Big Beef" in the 1960's than morphing into an "Arby's" down the road.
