This place has a beautiful layout for small and large parties. We had a group of 6 and were able to sit in the central area of the restaurant. The waitress was very polite but extremely busy serving everyone there. The management tended to making sure tables were cleaned by the bus boys and didn't notice that our table and the tables around us didn't get our food or refills for a while. I will say I do love their lunch options here where I ordered the chicken tortilla soup with the beef Reynosa salad at a reasonable price. This was a good meal. read more

FYI the menu offers Australian Sea Bass I have ordered this and I did not get the Sea bass some other type of fish covered in sauce went back with a picture of what Sea Bass looks like they admitted they do not have any fish that looks like Sea Bass still on the menu with a hefty price if you stick to traditional Mexican food they do a good job with that Oh and if you're a Member of there points club that seems to have vanished double check your app the points don't seem to get applied to your app Who knows? read more

Last night was not good except for the margaritas. I always order the same thing & it was mediocre & less than warm. My husband's chicken that was supposed to be grilled looked like boil in bag. Meal on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm. The food has been consistently well prepared. We come for the Australian sea bass with Guerrero sauce. More increasingly, the service and time to table has become unacceptable. Timetable after sitting: 3 minutes to server acknowledgement 8 minutes later drinks arrived Appetizers within 5 minutes 48 minutes after ordering, food arrived. First time having server come to our table since we got our drinks. 14 minutes waiting for our first refill and Tabasco sauce. Finally ready to eat my cold sea bass. Ask them to warm it in the microwave. We ordered medium well steak. After waiting this long, my son no longer wants to wait for a remake and will just be eating fast food on the way home. Unfortunately, the days of Abuelo's being a more upscale restaurant are behind us. The price per meal is still the same with small increases for certain items. Online reservation option was not shared when we called trying to reserve a table for 13. There was no effort to seat us after we arrived for an hour and part of our party had to leave. Abuelo's in Midland is outstanding. We've been there and also ordered takeout - probably 15 times over the past few years. Never had a bad order or meal. The portions are very nice, prices are definitely reasonable, and the service has always been incredible. I love this place and it's our family's go to for excellent Mexican / TexMex food. The last time i was at abuelo's was 20 years ago at its original location. The old location had a more authentic mexican style. The staff and waiter was very nice. Service was poor, they got my order wrong: brought chicken fajitas instead of Angus beef I asked for. When I pointed it out they said they'll prepare a new one but brought the same plate with a few poorly prepared beef pieces and the few chicken pieces they forgot to remove. Abuelo's was a good restaurant however it wasn't fully up to par. The chips were not what I was expecting and I didn't like the fact that there was three different dips for the chips, but it seemed very crowded very unorganized and because I don't speak a whole lot of Spanish sadly, I had to have my boyfriend who does speak Spanish perfectly translate to the waitress. The decor of Abuelo's is beautiful, breathtaking, gorgeous but it is not what I would expect a beautiful pure Mexican restaurant to be. I expected more better authentic rice, Spanish rice, especially and the enchiladas were just not fully up to par. Other than that. CURBSIDE So I placed a curbside order for around 4pm, since they wouldn't be super busy around that time. The Curbside orders take 20 minutes which I think is quite good/typical compared to other restaurants. However, when I arrived I spent an additional 30 minutes waiting in the curbside spot, 10 of them were on hold with the store waiting for them to answer. I ended up going inside- the manager said they would look into it, and of course the order was already ready, just no one taking it out to me. I'm glad I went inside to get it, the curbside orders seem very neglected, and the hostess just kept transferring my call around but no one was helping or answering. Disappointed we spent over $100 on this order just for it to go cold and soggy. read more

We had dinner here on a Sunday night. We were seated quickly and the waitress was really attentive the entire meal asking us if we needed anything and refilling waters. We liked the complimentary chips and salsa and trio of little salsas that came out with our drinks. My only complaint was the salsas were all very thin and so very hard to eat without making a mess. Both our meals were out super fast on hot plates and tasted great. Really nice interior dining area, very open and bright. The menu had calorie counts next to each item, and some items offered to let you swap corn or flour tortillas for Lettuce wraps. Really nice that they had a vegetarian menu and a gluten free menu page as well! Service was excellent, however, towards the middle of our meal we couldn't help but hear a manager berating an employee very loudly. As she waddled by our table, we clearly heard her beligerently swearing. Then she sat at a table, and continued with ugly words not suitable for that type of environment. ABUELO's ruined my Mother's Day Meal. I paid almost $80 for a cold meal and not everything cooked. we had 3 meals delivered by Door Dash, but was only given 1 bag of chips and 3 dinky salsa. supposed to get chips and salsa with each meal so the site states. i ordered a shredded beef enchiladas and a cheese enchilada, there was less than 1/4 beef in the enchiladas closer to only 1 bite of beef and the cheese was hard and congealed, not even melted. my sons shredded beef Durango burrito had no meat in it either. what a let down. I like Abuelo's but this evening was slow. The hostess was rather indifferent, and told us it would be 45 minutes, even though there appeared to be plenty of open tables. We elected to sit in the bar (5 in our party). Chips and salsa arrived quickly along without drinks. The waitress kept us in chips, but not salsa. You can always tell when you enter a well run restaurant. A typical Saturday night at an Abuelos, at least where I live, is always walking into a loud crowd of hungry, waiting people. The Midland restaurant was completely different. The entry was quiet and inviting. The staff that took our name was pleasant , professional, and very clear about the waiting list. It was interesting to watch as we waited for our table. They maintained that pleasant atmosphere throughout the Saturday evening crowds. We had a text message that kept us updated about the wait and summoned us when our table was ready. Wonderful communication! The professionalism continued with a very capable waitress and support staff. The food was great and arrived quickly. I might add that our party included three children under 4 years old. Low quality beef that looked old. This is a major red flag. Invest in good quality beef and people will come back. The guacamole in my Dip sampler was way too salty.
