They helped me get my husband's Christmas present in about 5 mins. I walked in, told them what he liked and BOOM they handed me their suggestion. The bottle they recommended was a HUGE HIT, literally the best bottle he had yet....we ended up going back multiple times to buy more of the same bottle, after he shared his friends bought more too! They seriously know how to pick a great bottle!!! My husband is now a syndicate member....if you don't know what it is, ask! You get to help determine the newest bottles with a long list of other benefits! I had the pleasure of visiting the ABV Barrel Shop in Arnold, MO. This is the ultimate home of single barrel bourbon bottles. As soon as I walked in the door, both owners, Jim Fasnacht and Steve Akley, greeted me like an old friend and offered their knowledge of whiskey as well as samples of their available products. From the cool handmade bar to the vintage bourbon signs, the shop has an authentic bourbon vibe. Jim and Steve travel to different distilleries across the US and select the best single barrel offerings available. They also bring in the distillers for tastings at the shop. I was able to meet Gary Hindegardner from Wood Hat Spirits as part of their Meet the Distiller events. It was an amazing experience, one of which they can only offer. The most unique liquor store I have been in. They only sell single barrel, barrel proof spirits. you will not find soda , beer, wine, seltzers. No chips, ice, or Styrofoam coolers just single barrel spirits picked by Jim, Steve, and members of their syndicate. Every bottle has a story of the pick and the distillery. I enjoyed stopping by and listening to the conversations. What is truly unique is you can try a sample before you buy. Yes, there may be a charge for the tasting severed in a mini Glencairn glass not a plastic cup. If you are in the area stop by and look around. If you are looking for true unicorns this is the place. I wrote a prior review of this business, but wanted to provide an update. The products offered are constantly expanding. Nearly all are single barrel picks - the best of the best, none of which you will find in any other store. Steve and Jim have developed relationships with small distillers throughout the country, gaining access to individual barrels within their respective rick houses. They then sample multiple barrels, picking out the best of the bunch, buy the entire barrel, get it bottled and that's what is available in the shop.
