Over the summers, this place can sometimes be considered to me a second or third home. I value the products and the tasty food Freddy and his team deliver; however, something of utmost importance is the way I am treated here every time I enter those doors. I ordered their Sao Paulo acai bowl. It was flavorful and refreshing. It was loaded with acai, granola oats, fresh fruit (kiwi, pineapple, and I think mine had papaya) and topped with shredded coconut. It wasn't overly sweet. Perfect when you want something on the sweet side without packing on the calories. They also sell supplements and protein powders. I even found almond butter! Really yummy and healthy acai bowls! The consistency of the acai was perfect, not hard and not liquidy. It was just right and so good with the honey, fruits and granola. The sandwiches are huge! I got the tuna sandwich which was healthy and hearty. What I liked about it was that it was not drowning in mayo, instead it had a nice citrus taste in the tuna. Good bread and fresh ingredients. Just tried the Pagode bowl and the MFD sandwich, they are really tasty but definitely overpriced for the potion. We got the large bowl for $10. Everything tasted fresh and the texture of the Acai is great, but I've had great for a cheaper price. The sandwich I can say was really good! I don't like pesto, but this was light and fresh, I would have that again. I get they are a health store but I do wish they had better drink options (bottled), most of it is kambucha unless you order a smoothie or juice which is also pricey. read more

However, Downey only has about 2 other cafes serving this dish, so finding this spot that specializes in Acai bowls was definitely unique! The place had a good variety on the menu, even offering a choice to customize your order. I chose to do that because it's not something that I have ever come across before. I got a medium (2 scoops) bowl with granola & agave plus my three topping choices of strawberry, pineapple, and kiwi. The Acai was very thick & rich tasting because it is pure Acai rather than a smoothie blend with various other fruits/juices mixed in the base. I liked it but it also left a very sweet taste in my mouth for hours after. The granola and fruit toppings were generous and very good! Overall, the place was a good find and different from what I've had before because of the pure Acai blend. Also the man working there was very friendly and helpful. I try to get an acai bowl every chance that I can get so I like to think I know what is good and what is not-so-good. Although it's hard to go wrong to make a simple bowl of fruits and acai, this, you'd be surprise to find out how other places dilute their acai base with other ingredients since acai, in itself, has to be imported and is expensive. I stumbled upon this place while on vacation and this has been one of the most surprising food discoveries I've made in a long time. Because of this place, I know what great acai is and because of this place, it's ruined acai bowls for me here at home in the Bay Area where I can't seem to find a place that mimics the quality here. Even just looking at the pictures, you can even tell how thick the consistency is and how it holds its scoop form which is how authentic Brazilian acai bowls are suppose to be like-- not slushy or goopy.
