I wanted enjoy this restaurant more than I did. Maybe it's historically slow on weekdays, but the dining room felt pretty empty. Nice small place, has a bar section and high tables. TVs were playing the superbowl. Noise volume was good, not to loud but able to hear it. Our server was great. She was attentive and made our dining experience nice. Substitution is available from the menu, just a little up charge. Free chips and salsa. Food was decent, felt a little dry but priced good. Of all the Acupulco Restaurants around, this one is my favorite. Today, we had a short wait for our food. Which was nice. Very attentive server that was kind of busy! The best part was the Seafood Chimicanga that actually had seafood in it! Years ago, when Acupulco was new, that particular item was always delish and exactly what I liked, really really really liked but then, all of a sudden, it was mostly, RICE! SO I stopped ordering it. I was his only customer in the bar area so we chatted Mexican eateries and burritos. Whoa. I'm positive my Acapulco Burrito was out in 10 minutes or less!! Sam brought it out in a handled stapled shut paper bag. Imagine my surprise when after I arrived home I emptied the bag and found a paper bag of chips and a little cup of salsa. I thought was very thoughtful and then realized: I guess I've never got an Acapulco meal to go before. The burrito, well half the burrito was delicious and hit the spot. In all nonesty, I'm a creature of habit and always get the Wet Burrito. Today... steak sounded good. I will have the rest of the burrito for dinner. Went to get dinner and drinks here to catch up with a friend. Prices were reasonable and the food was very favor full! I got the Acapulco bowl which was more like a salsa then a rice bowl but I still really enjoyed it. Chips & salsa are included. I would skip out on the chocolate cake, it looks good but wasn't great- I honestly think Domino's chocolate lava cake is better. This one was too soft and too much chocolate. I have not been to an Acapulco in at least 15 years, but I am glad we gave it a shot on this trip to Minnesota. The queso was the highlight, and it was truly amazing, my daughter almost ate the whole bowl. The chimichanga my dad got was great as well, but the sauce on my wife and kid's burritos was off, it just tasted weird, we really couldn't put our finger on it, but I assume it isn't usually like that. The salsa wasn't that great either, but the chips were perfect for the queso blanco. The gal that sat us and waited on us was great, she was friendly, attentive, and made this a pleasant experience. Went here with some family this past Saturday. I knew going in that eating here at prime lunchtime things might be slow and I was right. We got there and they were slammed. Not sure what happened but we only saw 1 Bartender, 1 server, and 1 manager. It took about 15 minutes to get seated, and once we were seated about 10 minutes to get service. Normally I would deduct points from a review but the people working here were running around getting drinks and food out fast. Once we were served it did not take long to get our drinks, and our food came out fairly quickly. Both the Manager & Server helped us out. The food was fantastic and very Authentic. The service was pretty damn good tbh. All in all, this is a fantastic place to go and eat. If you are in the area or just want to try it it is well worth your time. Kudos to the Manager as she was helping all the front house staff with everything from getting drinks & food to clearing tables so they could seat more people. read more

I had a Modelo, or three, it never disappoints. For food we tried the 5 layer scoop with steak, seafood chimichanga, and I ordered a single tamale. The scoop was basically all your sides, rice, beans, salsa verde, pico, DROWNED in cheese, like a cheese soup, and served in a crispy tortilla. I wasn't feeling particularly health conscious that day so I scooped all that delicious lard up and shoveled it in my mouth. Done. Out and about running errands and remembered that we had a buy one get one coupon so we stopped in for lunch. For the value, we really received a lot of food. Sure, it might not be the most authentic, but for the price its almost as much as chipotle. Our server, Jessica was as sweet as can be and just the right amount of attentive. Refills and all. On the few occasions that I do order pop, I order a cherry pepsi. They make their cherry pepsi with a really good caliber of grenadine and their soft beverages come in a nicely proportioned glass. Chips are overflowing and they are ok. Not crazy about them, but they do the trick. Guacamole is a bit package tasting like it was pre- prepared from a factory in NJ as J describes it. I ordered the Fajita Burrito with shrimp. The cheese sauce smothering the burrito is pretty darn good. J ordered the arroz con pollo and commented how fresh and tasty it was and a nice change from the fried, fatty choices. We've come many a time and have never had bad service or bad food. It was our first, and subsequently last, visit to Acapulco. To start though, we were greeted and sat right away, very friendly staff. The waitress was friendly and took our order promptly. And our food was delivered promptly and it was nice and hot. That was the good part. The bad part was the food itself. I ordered the chicken fajitas and they were very bland. Little to no fajita flavor. The food was grilled, but it didn't have a nice sautéed texture to it. I was very disappointed. We would return if the food improved, because otherwise the staff made it a nice visit. We can just get better Mexican food somewhere else. read more

During my recent visit, I notified our waiter of my severe nut allergy. He informed me that I would be fine as long as I did not order the seasonal vegetable side which he thought (did not know for sure) contained walnuts. My boyfriend and I both ordered an entree and drinks. One bite into my meal, I knew something was wrong. My throat instantly started to swell. We called the waiter over to alert him of my allergic reaction. He went to the kitchen to see what might have caused my reaction - 5 mins later he came back with no answer. We needed to leave so I could prevent my reaction from accelerating so we asked for the bill. The waiter said he would need to get management approval to "take a bunch off our bill". He came back 10 mins later, took my entree off and made us pay for the rest of the food/drinks we didn't get to eat or drink. Glad I did not go into anaphylactic shock while waiting for our waiter. If you have any type of allergy, I'd beware of this establishment. They do not realize the severity of food allergies and do not take the necessary precautions to prevent potentially life threatening allergic reactions. read more

Perhaps it is just the location of this specific restaurant, but aside from the food, the rest of my experience here was sub-par. For starters, what better waiter would you want than some 20 year old stoned punk? Ahh,yes. I really do enjoy repeating myself to you two to three times for EVERYTHING. Or how about teaming up with another random waiter who liked to come by every 5 minutes in his fake Texan accent to say "Y'all doing okay?" That's all he was good for though. Oh, yeah. He cleared our plates. At least we could understand him better than the stoned mumbler. Anyway, we both had the chimichanga which was good (large portions, the other half is currently chillin' in my fridge). Food came out fast. Chips and salsa a plenty but the house margarita tasted more like limeade than anything else. It is also absolutely NOT ok to vacuum in your restaurant, right by my table, while I am eating. Acapulco is a place to go and get your Mexican fix in. I hadn't been here in awhile but I don't mind going to this location. This visit wasn't impressive but it doesn't make so I won't come back. The waitress was nice and we were seated quickly. The chips were good and the initial salsa was good. The waitress came and got our orders but after that it went slightly downhill. We ordered guacamole to eat with our chips. We got the guacamole but no more chips.. So we basically sat and watched the empty chip basket and the full bowl of guacamole. I actually used my fork to taste some of the delicious guacamole. It wasn't until after we got our main entrees that we got a new basket of chips. My fajitas was the highlight of the whole visit. Who knew it would all be the SAME sauce in everything. By the way, everything is smothered in the same "special" queso sauce which was really overkill for lack of flavor creativity. On a semi-better note, server was nice. She did however forget to bring me hot sauce and also messed up my order a little bit. Acapulco is hands down one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the twin cities. Not quite sure why this is an unpopular opinion, maybe I'm just not that boujie when it comes to Mexican food but I have never ever been disappointed with the food or the service here. In fact, both are always excellent. When it comes to the food, I feel like I've tried probably half their menu. To start with, you get FREE chips and salsa....I'm sorry but any place that wants to give me free food is already a winner in my heart. Not to mention that it's actually unlimited so they keep replacing your chips and salsa as long as you want. The salsa is really good, btw!! I always get a cup of their queso and a cup of their guac, both amazing and both worth the $5 or $6!! Actually one of my favorite guacs I have had anywhere in the cities. As far as the actual food goes, it's brilliant. Simply put. One of my go to's is their chicken or steak fajitas!! Comes out sizzling hot, the onions and peppers perfectly caramelized with multiple sides and tortillas. It's a giant portion!!! I always have lunch for the next day!!! There's no way it won't make leftovers, especially after munching on the chips and salsa. I've had the Carne Asada steak! Delicious but probably not as worth portion wise as the fajitas are. I've had the Torta, which was tasty, came with a nice portion of side salad. It's not my favorite thing on the menu but it was good! I've had multiple of their different burritos and they all have tasted great, all come with a galore of sides as almost anything on the menu. I've had their enchiladas verde and those were bomb with the mountain of cheese they were burried under!! I've been for Taco Monday. Tacos are big and simple....probably the only thing that I wouldn't come here for though. Tacos I like better elsewhere. Service is always nice, friendly and very prompt, especially when it comes to refilling your chips and salsa! Never rude, never had an issue! To sum up, I really enjoy Acapulco. Calm, family atmosphere, delicious food ...again, I don't expect fancy when it comes to Mexican, if I wanted a side of caviar with my guac I'd have to re think my life choices. Thanks for the chips! It was the only thing we got! Okay, disclaimer - I was in a slightly bad mood and just wanted to eat. It was a Friday night, 8:50 pm. We typically hit up the Acapulco in Woodbury, but we were closer to Maplewood, so we go in. We don't want a full meal and just want to sit in bar - it's packed. The Twins game is on. I see a ton of d-bags, but no open seats. We are taken further back to a line of booths. There are 2 already occupied and one larger table next to us. We are seated, given menus, chips and salsa. Here is what happened next - A worker (obviously not a server) asks if she "can take the caddy and fill up the sauces." Sure, she takes it, sits at a table for 2 next to us and fills them up. We wait and eat some chips. I see a server texting in a booth across the way. Said worker, then checks on the table behind us and takes their bill We wait and eat some chips. I see a server bring and take drink orders at another table. She brings their change or card or whatever back to them. We wait some more and eat more chips. I'm constantly checking the time because I'm growing more irritated as the minutes tick by. At least, 12 minutes later, chips are gone (I told you we were hungry and I was crabby), we get up, I say to said worker, "Thanks for the chips. They were good, the nonexistent service sure wasn't." She looks at me as though she's never seen me before. Seriously? You've been sitting there for at least 12 minutes On the way out I said the same thing to the manager and she also looked shocked. Alculpolcos is hit or miss, depending on which location. The Woodbury location is the best of them all. Before the restaurant became a small chain was when the food was at it's best, now they deliver on everything but great food. I see Alculpolcos evolving from restaurant to sports bar, perhaps for some this is a welcome evolution but I find it disturbing as food and service was best when they were just a little hole in the wall located in Stillwater. read more

Let me start by saying, I have been to other locations (Stillwater, Woodbury) and not had near as terrible of an experience as I had here. I'm simply going to bullet point everything bad, as I don't want to spend hours writing in detail (as I easily could). ~The "hostess" was not in any type of uniform (other employees were), and not standing behind the counter, not a professional start. ~Our server took more than 10 minutes to approach us. ~Our drinks took another 10+ minutes to arrive, mine closer to 15 as I watched it sit on the counter as my friends enjoyed theirs. I should note, the restaurant was not busy at this time. ~I asked for cheese sauce when we ordered out drinks, it didn't come until we asked again after ordering our food. ~I opened my silverware, there was a dried piece of lettuce on the fork. ~One of my friends wasn't given any silverware. ~My friend ordered her drink on the rocks, it came blended. They said they would just comp it-not even offering to make it the right way. They still charged her for it. ~My side of guacamole never came. ~Our bill (for 4 people, that we wrote out names next to the items) was not split correctly. ~We didn't have a set server, 4 different people would come and ask us the same questions. I wont even complain about the food not being very good, as I didn't expect it to be. Overall, it was a terrible experience, and I'm leaving things out as it's been a few days.
