Dr Gong is very knowledgeable but like most doctors are very over-booked and just hurries through the visit. The experience we had with the billing gal (Tina) was horrible! She clearly is a very unhappy person and talks in a rude tone without explaining the statement or payments made. Seems angry! Wouldn't feel comfortable interacting with her ever again. Dr Gong is great. But otherwise, this place is horrible! After interacting with Karen, I'm disappointed Dr Gong would allow someone with such poor customer service to work in an office setting like this. I was trying to explain our conversation on 6/13/24 and Karen just interrupted me and said "I was there and I remember". When leaving their office today , I said I was going to leave a negative review, and KAREN responded, "WE DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR REVIEW". Wow! How eye opening! No pun intended because seriously this goes to show that they do not actually care how you feel or how your experience is. Her response was concrete evidence that they simply do not care! I'm sure Dr Gong cares about my review though. I had called maybe two or so weeks ago to see if I could stop by and pick up contacts while I wait on getting a replacement HSA card to come in the mail (which I just received recently). I had my prescription renewed back on 6/13/24. They said someone would call me back. No one did. I had to follow up. When I spoke with someone two to three days ago, they said they would be open until 6:00 and I could buy contacts then in the office (yet they failed to explain the balance I have on my account and they absolutely dropped the ball on letting me know that apparently they can refuse to sell you contacts if you have a balance on your account. How helpful that would have been to know this before driving over) Karen states I had a $58.91 balance from a 2/22/24 visit. She also states I had a $82.50 balance from 6/13/24. Today, they refused to sell me contacts because of the balance on my account. I wish the individual I spoke with on the phone this week at Accent Eye Care would have communicated that to me. It would have saved me time. Also, if I had a $58.91 balance from a 2/22/24 visit that is unpaid, why would you let me be seen on 6/13/24. Where do they draw the line? Apparently, you can't buy contacts here with a balance on your account that I am clearly trying to resolve. I do believe the 2/22/24 visit balance is correct but I want to double check with my insurance. I am not certain if the balance from the 6/13/24 visit is correct. I vividly remember Karen telling me on 6/13/24 that they do not bill Avesis since it is out of network and I had to fully pre-pay upfront otherwise I could not be seen. I wanted to know the exact cost and I was told $150.50 to update my prescription. This is exactly what I prepaid on 6/13/24. Also, today when I checked in at the front desk. When I said I wanted to buy contacts, they could have told me "Sorry, you have a balance on your account so you can't purchase contacts until you resolve this balance". Nope! Sent me over to someone else who couldn't even explain my bill. Oh and what is completely crazy is they asked if I wanted the contacts that THEY CAN NOT SELL ME shipped to my home or shipped to Accent Eye Care. Why would you ask me this question if you can't sell me contacts without FIRST resolving the balance? Won't be returning. I will pay the remainder of my balance of $58.91 from 2/22/24 hopefully soon after I speak with my insurance, and potentially the balance from 6/13/24. When it's all said and done, I will likely be paying Accent Eye Care $58.91 for my 2/22/24 visit and potentially the $82.50 from my 6/13/24 visit. But unfortunately for Accent Eye Care, they won't be able to get the $180 (approximate cost) for a 90 day supply of contacts. Karen is rude and will interrupt you and she without a doubt does not care about this review (Yet she will probably read this review proving herself wrong). Stay away from this place. I guess I'll look into buying contacts elsewhere. How do you have poor customer service and refuse to receive business from someone? I will say Dr Gong is exceptionally nice and caring. Everyone on the care side is great but that doesn't matter when the rest of the office drops the ball when it comes to calling you back on about picking up some contacts, refusing to explain a balance on the account, and refusing to sell you contacts. Doctor Gong is very nice and Witney was very gentle and professional during my Eye exam. There was a big confusion between the price that the front office gave me at the first consultation and the price that they ended up charging me. If you don't like surprises,make sure they write your estimate cost down and give you a copy of it. Unfortunately the Management and some of the front office are extremely unprofessional and don't know how to fairly solve problems,rather then loosing clients and damage the office reputation. I am a physician and if I ran a practice and treated patients like Dr. Gong, I would have NO patients. Referred to her due to her "expertise" with kids and interacted primarily with an intern who was not very good with kids and then spent 15 seconds (zero exaggeration) with Dr Gong who explained nothing and said we need to schedule another visit to do more testing and then we will find out any diagnosis. Do not waste your time here, going to a pediatric ophthalmologist instead. Terrible terrible way to interact with parents. read more

My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Aleta Gong for more than 15 years. She's extremely knowledgeable and professional and always takes the time to sit and answer questions. I also appreciate that she has taken to train interns to become future eye doctors. Terrible customer service and communication with patients. I visited 2 weeks ago for an exam, at which time I did not have to wait long to be escorted to an exam room. However, an intern from Midwestern University competed the entire exam and history. He was very good, but I saw Dr. Gong for approximately 5 minutes (maximum) and she never identified or introduced herself. I asked the front desk person after she left who she was. Two weeks later I'm still waiting for my contacts that I ordered when I was there. After calling, they're still looking for them. Very unprofessional staff, & poor communication. read more

I'm excited to work with them to correct some things with my vision which could improve other various health concerns. The first session was indepth testing & gave me a better idea of what areas to hope for improvement & they'll formulate a treatment program. I'll do additional sessions to work on everything to improve. I think it's amazing how much our site can effect our brain health & reaction times. They do light therapy here as well as other things which are great for a holistic healing methodology. The staff seems to really care overall - one person was rude & an intern, though pleasant didn't really hear several things I said so when I mentioned them again he finally acknowledged things. Karen who works here was an absolute gem though! She's been a pleasure to work with & is super helpful & caring which is why I'm giving this place 5 stars instead of 4 like have otherwise done. I'm confident they'll really help & I'm excited. Bit of a drive so I can't come weekly like is the norm but I'll make it work at least monthly. OMG. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!!! I should've checked YELP before going to this place! Read this and perhaps you can avoid the same fate. I got my eyes examined in July at this place - no doctor Gong, just some student or what not. I paid big bucks for two pairs of lenses and a pair of frames. I waited 2-3 weeks for the lenses to arrive, and they put one pair of lenses into the new frames and the other pair of lenses into my old frames. Voila! All done, right? WRONG! The prescription was not right, and the new lenses made everything appear as if it was underwater, all wobbly, etc. They were so bad that I could see better without them! I notified the office of this situation and they had me come in to be rechecked. At the second "shouldn't-have-been-needed" examination, Dr. Gong actually looked at my eyes...Hmmm, she said...we need a different prescription for you than the one we gave you before. Duh! But shouldn't the prescription be what the eyes require? So why is the first prescription not right? Maybe someone didn't know what they were doing? OK, so the first set of new bad lenses come out, and the old lenses go back in while I wait a couple more weeks for the second set of new lenses to arrive. They arrive and they put them in the frames, and wow! It's all good to go this time, right? WRONG! it still looks like I'm underwater and now I get a headache from the eye strain after just a few minutes. So, second new lenses out, and old lenses back in. Shall we try again, Doc? Yeah, sure, but it's gonna cost you out of pocket, they said, as your insurance won't pay for any more visits.. What? You charged the insurance for the second visit? And now you want to charge me for a third visit? Why should I, or anyone else, be charged for a visit that is only necessary because you did a bad job? Well, they said, you can come in and we'll check it again, but it's gonna cost ya... Huh?? The optometrist can't do the job right - twice in a row, mind you - and they demand yet more money to try again? And what they screw it up the third time, the fourth time, the fifth? I mean, Dr. Gong, how much money will you gleefully take from you patients as the price they have to literally pay for your substandard performance? Aren't you ashamed? What about a refund, and I'll try elsewhere? No, no refund. Sorry! (Dr. Gong: LOL) The patient pays and Accent Eyecare gives them a flawed product. So, what's the bottom line, Yelp reader? Accent Eyecare / Dr. Gong is a total rip off. They should call themselves Casino Eyecare, because its a gamble; you may get a good product with good service, or, you may not, and if you don't.....too bad! Thus, here I am a couple months later out several hundred dollars, stuck with my old out-of-date lenses as the best option out of the three sets of lenses, and Dr. Gong & colleagues won't (TRY) to correct their mistakes unless I pay them yet more. Maybe $10,000 in consecutive fingers-crossed examination visits over a period of ten years would be enough for these clowns to get the job done right? I've been wearing glasses for about 45 years now, and I have had many new glasses prescribed. This is the FIRST AND ONLY time I have encountered this level of poor performance, unwillingness to satisfy the customer, and the whole experience of trying to get new glasses being a complete waste of time and a financial loss. So I've been to this eye care place only three times and never once was I satisfied. First time I went there the "eye doctor" Helped me and tried to do my prescription and was asking me all these questions and did not seem knowledgeable whatsoever. then another lady came in her name is aleta gong and She was in there for about three minutes and looked over everything and said it was good then sent me on my way. Then they sent me over to the optical department to pick out a pair of glasses and so I did with my new prescription mind you. I ordered the glasses and they said they'd be ready within a week. About a week and a half later I came to pick up my glasses and I was really excited because I wanted a new pair of glasses and I NEED new glasses. The second I put them on I could not see they gave me a splitting migraine and I just thought it was a new prescription so I had them adjust them and I left. I wore the new pair of glasses for three days and those three days I had the worst migraine and I could not see without squinting it was terrible. so I finally went back and told them what was going on because I had another eye issue. first the first guy who came in was really weird didn't even take care of my eye issue didn't even look at my eyes. He decided to wash my eyes with a CONTACT solution, and got water all over my face before I had to go to work. Then he was done so he brought in someone else and she looked at everything for about five minutes. She also didn't even look at my eyes and just assumed I needed the most expensive prescription they could fill; I told her I didn't want that prescription because it was too expensive and asked is it really what I need for my eye problem right now so she called in something different. I was mostly mad because no one actually took the time to look at my eye to see what was actually wrong with it. Then they tried to refit me for a new prescription that didn't give me a migraine and it took them about an hour just to figure out my prescription and the guy doing it could not figure it out. finally sent me over to optical ordered a new pair glasses was excited because they said it was close to the prescription I have currently. Went back today to pick up said new pair of glasses. and I'm very unhappy because the minute I put on the glasses same exact issue- migraine, looks like I'm in a bubble, the glasses are half an inch thick, and the lady adjusting them made them so close against my head and said it was normal for me to see everything at a curve. I am almost 90% positive that these are the same ones as I sent back. I don't think that I can take these ones back because these are remake and I asked the lady if I could have these remade and she said probably not because they are the remake. so basically I wasted $200 and I don't have a new pair of glasses because I can't correctly see out of the current pair that they said that they FIXED. I will never be going back to this place they waste of my time, money, and a brand new spanking pair glasses. ITS NOT NORMAL TO SEE AS A CURVE PEOPLE!!! This place is so terrible. I have near sightedness and I have been waiting for my glasses for 3 weeks when they promised for it to be under 2 weeks. I just called them and now they say I have to wait another week for my glasses, which is just unbelievable. I need my glasses for my education and to get my drivers license, and they promised to put it on a rush but I am waiting for a month just for some glasses. If you need an eye exam or glasses, I highly advise you to never go here. They are so inconsistent with their promises and it sounds like they do not care whether you get your glasses sooner or later. The office i went to over 15 years recently combined with Accent Eye Care. I purchased a pair of sunglasses and with not happy with them for multiple reasons. The customer service provided to turn my first experience around wow'd me and I was totally satisfied with the choices and final outcome. In addition, I messed up and came on the wrong day for an appointment and they were able to accommodate so that I did not have to make another trip. Gosh, I am so surprised at all the positive reviews! I brought my son here for an eye exam and a vision therapy evaluation and it was pretty miserable. I had high hopes as my doctor in Chicago recommended Dr.Gong, but, I was beyond disappointed.The waiting room was PACKED and gross ( we were there on a Wednesday at 1:00pm), we had an appointment with Dr. Gong but only saw an intern (which is fine... it would have been nice if Dr. Gong at least said hi though), then we had to wait for 20 minutes in between doing vision therapy tests. All of this with a six year old. No apologies, no explanations, and the intern was very vague about what was going on with my son. I'm sure Dr. Gong is nice, but, I never saw her. We were there for close to three hours which I thought was downright ridiculous. I feel like I wasted a whole bunch of time here. read more

Here is my experience with the business of A.B. Gong, OD. For over 30 years my wife and I have been using the Optical Department at our local Costco for eye exams and purchase of frames and glasses. At the end of December 2021, I tried to schedule and appointment with Costco Optical for an eye exam and found out that it would be WEEKS before an appointment would be available. Knowing that was unsatisfactory, I searched for another optometrist that could book me into an appointment within a more reasonable period of time. To my delight I found A.B. Gong optometrist business within walking distance from my home, and they were able to schedule me for an eye exam the very next business day. The eye exam went perfect in every way. First, the front office staff was so nice and professional and I quickly started the eye exam process with the most modern, technical and sophisticated eye exam equipment that I had ever seen. I was amazed at the technology and professionalism of the staff. As I arrived back home, I described to my wife every detail of my eye exam experience. She had already booked and appointment with Costco Optical for and eye exam and she quickly cancelled that appointment and booked another with A.B. Gong. Then, I took my new eye glass prescription I got at A.B. Gong back to Costco Optical to purchase new lenses for two of my existing frames. When those new glasses came into Costco, I tried them on only to discover my vision was very distorted. Costco checked the prescription of the lenses and told me they were correct. I then took the glasses back to A.B. Gong and had them check the glasses prescription which showed that the lenses had a totally different prescription than what they should have been. Back to Costco Optical and they admitted they (Costco Optical) entered the wrong prescription on the order and offered to have the glasses redone. Time goes on and finally I get the call from Costco Optical that my glasses are ready. Once again, the two sets of glasses do little to improve my vision. Back to A.B. Gong for a second opinion of the Costco glasses. Once again, both sets of glasses have the wrong prescription and even those didn't even match each other. COSTCO OPTICAL is FIRED! Hello, A.B. Several people seem to post poor reviews about glasses and such and I don't go for that reason. My children have 20/20 vision but they have eye conditions that require therapy (akin to physical therapy for the eyes). I am not aware of any other place that does this. They explain and show me exactly what is occurring as my children are too young to explain themselves. They appear to have the latest technology for vision therapy. They make it as fun as possible for the children and they work hard with insurance companies to help reduce out of pocket costs. I have nothing but good things to say about the vision therapy side of the office. read more

Just can't say enough about Dr. Gong and her staff. My family and I have been seeing Dr. Gong for about 5 years and have never had a complaint. During my recent visit I was informed that my eyes had improved a little bit and as a diabetic that was great to hear. So today I picked up my new glasses and I must say they were spot on with the Varilux lenses that they recommended. These lenses are great and I will tell you that I have never been steered wrong with products to help my family and I. This is the only place I have ever gone that was patient and kind with my son (when getting glasses for a 2 yr old it not easy) and always strives to make sure he and I are comfortable with all the information they provide my family. Although I know many patients have had or are having a good experiences at this office, mine has been one of the worst. I was referred to Dr. Gong's office by another doctor who has given me great referrals in the past. I was referred there for a vision evaluation and eye physical therapy. I have several 'medical' type issues with my eyes. Since my experience is long and complicated and I do not care to rehash it over again, I'll give a summary. I only saw Dr. Gong for about 10 minutes in my 5 visits to the office so I can not comment on her personally. I was instructed to do 8, 30 minute sessions of therapy in which I only made it through 3 which were more like 20 minutes because equipment or computers were not working. The reason for only 3, 20 minute sessions were due to billing issues. Right from the 1st visit, I asked not to receive any treatment that was not covered under insurance until I knew what the charges would be. What I did not know is that there was a clause in their paperwork stating I would agree to pay any bill that was not covered by insurance even if the insurance company's explanation of benefits states I am NOT responsible for the charges. After my third session, I still had not received anything from my insurance so I cancelled the rest of my appointments waiting to hear what would be covered. It took from the end of February until the end of July to get my answer and many phone calls and hours of my time in between to their office and my insurance company. After Accent Eye Care submitted corrected billings, and claims were adjusted, I finally got the full explanation of what I owed. The bottom line, for $500 out of my pocket, my condition is the same and I did not get an eye prescription for glasses or contacts. Basically, I feel I received nothing worth $500. All I can suggest is look at all the paperwork closely, find out your insurance coverage before you start anything in this office and make sure you get what you pay for. I paid $70 for an eye therapy 'kit' that they said was required for eye therapy. A waste of money in my case. I have dozens of doctors and I have not been this disappointed in an office for a long, long time. I have been to Dr. Amin's office for the same issues and my experience was 10 times better. I will be going back to her. If I can save one person from going through 4 months of frustration and wasted time, I have done my job. read more

A very warm, kind person that makes you feel at home during your checkup, and also very knowledgeable. I've always gotten the right prescription and had any questions answered by her. I am so glad I found Dr. Gong!! Both my mother and grandmother had macular degeneration, and I needed a doctor with experience in following MD. In addition, I'm a hard fit as I have a high index prescription with astigmatism. Dr. Gong is the best eye doctor I've ever found--and I've lived all over the United States! From the front desk to the medical assistants, to the interns, and eyeglass fitting...everyone is efficient and eager to help. I consider this a real testament to Dr. Gong's leadership. At my first visit last year, she determined that I do have early signs of MD. She arranged for genetic testing, which actually showed a lower chance of progression than I had feared, AND we found out I should avoid zinc which is in high doses in many MD supplements. I could have inadvertently been increasing my chances of MD progression without this valuable information! Since then, she has followed me to ensure that we are on top of any changes in my vision. Today I had the most thorough eye exam of my life, and am looking forward to getting my new glasses. Even though I've worn contacts for 53 years, she is having me do a follow-up in a week to ensure the new ones are exactly right. I drive 22 miles to see Dr. Gong, and probably pass 50 eye doctors on the way, but it is well worth the trip to see her.I highly recommend her. I have been to Dr. Gong's office 4 different visits for myself and my adult son who is on my insurance. Office is clean and staff is very friendly. As others have mentioned all exams for myself and my son over the past 2 years were completed entirely by interns with a quick review at the very end by Dr. Gong. First appointment I went with contacts that just did not work for me. My son went with a new pair of glasses and GRRR never told me that they gave him headaches. They had the perscription incorrect but our loss since he never spoke up until the next year when I made the annual appointments. Year 2 - they redid Ryan's perscription which actually went back to the same as before he visited the office the first time. I went with glasses this time. They lost the first order for my glasses and I had to go back and start the process of picking them out again - very frustrating. They ALWAYS had me pay for the glasses in full before ordering. $526 after insurance for my glasses alone. 5 months later I get a bill for $20. When I called to get the bill cleared up knowing it had to be a mistake since they do not even order the glasses without having your entire order paid in full first they were argumentative. Said they had sent another notice and that I had not paid that bill (I never got an earlier notice of the bill and this one was stamped first notice). When she looked into the transaction she indicated that I still owed for the polycarbonate which they failed to give me the correct bill in the first place. I will pay the additional $20 owed but will NEVER return to this office. They are seriously overpriced and painful to work with. They will not own their mistakes.
