Way over-priced for services rendered compared to other, more highly-ranked local fair competitors. They will not provide a line-item invoice providing costs for parts and labor. Technicians appear to be working on some sort of commission resulting in price-gouging. Had I not needed immediate repairs and others were available I would have gone with any of the other much high rated local companies. Not a company I will be working with again in the future. I am in Boise recently moved this year and I do not recommend. They are trying to deceive customers by closing their poorly rated (3 stars) honestly reviewed profile (scroll down for it - they have 3 entries for this same business) and opening new profiles with what appear to be insider and not actual customer reviews that give them 5 stars for which they only have a few ratings (fewer than 10). Originally gave 5 stars because the technicians that repaired our stuff were extremely nice and did a good job. I'd probably still recommend them for repairs and maintenance. I cannot recommend them at all for new installs though, it's insanely overpriced. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company like the plague. Their guy was out here to my home one week ago for a spring A/C tune-up. The guy lied about just about everything. He told me my A/C unit would need more than 2 lbs of refrigerant added to the system and that just adding that refrigerant would cost me between 700 to 1,000 dollars (JUST for the refrigerant). He also told me my coil was a 1 1/2 ton coil and he also told me that replacing the coil would cost "thousands of dollars". He also said that he could feel oil on the coil (as evidence of a leak). After he left last week I called the company that installed this A/C unit and they told me that my A/C unit was working perfectly and did not need ANY refrigerant added to it. They also showed my on the coil where it is rated as a 2 to 3 ton coil, etc., etc., etc. Their definition of "perfect" was setting the thermostat at 74 degrees and the A/C cooled the air coming into the house down to 51 degrees in a matter of minutes. They also told me there was no evidence of a leak or any kind of oil on the coil itself. The A/C company that installed this A/C (six years ago) also told me that IF I had had to have as much as 3 lbs of refrigerant added that they would have priced it to me at $500 including their $79 service fee (as opposed to "$700 to $1,000 just for TWO lbs of refrigerant"). AVOID ACCESS HEATING AND AIR ............unless you are a big fan of having a service company LIE TO YOU REPEATEDLY. I was having problems with my AC freezing so I called Access. Jared came out to check in 2 days due to my schedule. He did a thorough diagnosis. He spent several hours using sensors, computers, and his knowledge. He determined my Freon was dirty and needed to be flushed and replaced. He came back out with all the equipment and material needed to fix the problem. He spent about 5 hrs flushing out the Freon and re-filling/balancing the system. Jared was friendly and knowledgeable. About a week ago, our furnace blower started making terrible sounds. I had Access Heating & Air inspect my systems last fall, and liked the technician. So I called and scheduled a technician to come out. It took 4 days to get a technician out to my home. The good news was that only the blower fan had come loose from the housing, but still spun. The next good news was that the parts were still under warranty. Then the bad news began. Even though only the fan needed to be replaced, the technician insisted that his company "must" replace the blower, the motor, and the housing, even if I agreed to waive their responsibility. The first two parts were in stock, but the 3rd part would take 1 week or longer. He estimated it would take 3 hours to do the job for $1,374. When I balked, he said he had a great coupon to bring down the labor down to $1,222. All I had to do was join the monthly "membership" for $38/mo for my two systems, and included 2 inspections per year. For anyone keeping score, my "discount" cost me and additional $456, for a grand total of $1678. Since I didn't authorize the repair, he charged a $99 dispatch fee to be applied toward the repair if I proceeded later. I really liked the technician, but felt he is bound by unscrupulous company policies, and decided to get 2nd opinions. In the end, I called the top rated company, who sent their technician within 1-2 hours, and offered to repair the system the next day. He said only the blower needed to be repaired, which would take him 1/2 hour, with parts covered by warranty. Total cost $271, with no diagnostic fee since this was a 2nd opinion quote. Including the original $99, My grand total cost was $370. Over $1,000 less than Access. And next day repair vs 1-1/2 weeks. You will find my 5-star review of his company before long if you just check out the top-rated company in Boise. I caution you against using Access, no matter how friendly the technicians are. The name is appropriate since they want access to your wallet. read more

Ridiculously overcharged!!! My AC went out July 7th and these guys made it out same day (business hours) which was great. Based on symptoms and a visual of the capacitor, knew what was wrong w/in 5 minutes. Replaced the $25 part and ran a few diagnostics. Gave me a squirt of 4oz of R22 Freon which I did not ask for and was stated would not be billed. And that was that. Spent about 35 to 40 minutes on site including time for a few glasses of water, some headache meds and chit chat time . Final bill - $440! I paid but it seemed pretty steep so I politely asked for an itemized invoice the following day and 4 more times over the next 10 days. I really didn't think it was unreasonable to want to know exactly what I paid for. I have yet to see that invoice. I Will never use these guys again & cannot in good conscious recommend them. A quick look into their review history will reveal some very similar stories and a habit of grossly overcharging. Especially for capacitors. I had to chuckle at one explanation offered which was that they only install the premium made in the USA capacitors. You know, the ones that cost $25 instead if $10! I would avoid these guys at all cost. Many, many fair, honorable and respectable choices out there who won't gouge you for basic repairs. I've downgraded my review from 2 to 1 star based on the fact that after 13 days of trying to communicate with them, i only hear back after they see the poor reviews and i still have yet to see any attempt at an itemized invoice. Pathetic business ethics. Be forewarned; if you do pick them and it's your capacitor, a 10 minute installation of a $25 part is going to cost at least $440. read more

On October 4, 2021, I had Access Heating & air come to my house for a winter inspection for my furnace. It was only 3 years old so I knew there would be nothing wrong. This was only $39.00 since I had signed up though Lowes. The kid was very nice, showed up on time and did a nice job. Fast forward to December 29, 2021. I called a couple days previous to ask about having someone come and change out the thermostat in the house. I told the guy on the phone I did not want or need a fancy one. On &off for heat or a/c. He said they could do that with the service call at $90.00. Set up the date and time for December 9, 2021, for after 3 pm. This guy shows up, I show him the wall thermostat and what I wanted. Nothing fancy. One that is simple. Said this three times. He looked at it said he could change that out but needed to look at my furnace to make sure everything was working well. I had said I'm sure it is; it had just been serviced a couple months ago. He looked anyway. Comes back in the house with two boxes, I assumed were the thermostats. He sits them on the table and hands me a total of $888.00. To install a thermostat! I'm looking and reading at all of this and look at the bottom is where I see the total. I ask him if this is the total. He said yes. He had the two thermostats listed on there, along with a monthly charge for some type of monthly maintenance charge of $19.00. I'm reading all of this while he stands there. I told him if this is the charge I'm not interested and I'm not paying someone that amount for some stupid thermostat install. He has a funny look on his face after I said this to him. He removes one thermostat charge and the $19.00 monthly charge he thought I was stupid enough to fall for. Leaving the bill at a total of still way over $400.00. Over $300 for a thermostat? One was $324. The other was over $200.00. I said no. Asked what I owed him for showing up. He tells me $99.00; not the $90.00 I was quoted over the phone. I follow him to the garage since he said he had to put the furnace covers back on. I ask if everything looked good; he says yes, and he leaves. I left for the store, came back and noticed the bolts on the cover on the furnace looked funny and not the same as before. I looked at them and thought he had taken the bigger ones out and installed smaller since they were completely through the holes of the top panel and attached on the inner panel. I remove the one larger bolt still visible. Took the front cover off. To my surprise the original bolts were there, but he had attached them to the inner cover, placed the outer cover over those and put the one remaining bolt into the middle hole on the front. This left a gap on each side of the cover at least 3/8 of an inch and gapped further up by least 6 inches on the panel. There is a small foam piece that is supposed to seal the cover if installed properly. Now the panels are back to the way it was before he came and did what he did. I'm not sure why he did this. It was totally unprofessional. Was this because I told him to leave and didn't want him to install anything? Or just a lousy job done? Needless to say, I will never use Access again nor will I ever recommend them to anyone for any reason. read more

My husband called and requested for someone to come do a basic service and cleaning (we have never had any problems with our HVAC) since we are selling our home and that was part of the agreement with the buyers. Someone came out and did a full inspection of our HVAC and then quoted us over 2600 for a deep cleaning since our system was "extremely dirty." We are selling our home so we weren't interested in any extra services and we were told we basically needed to restore our 21 year old system. Ended up paying for another service/cleaning from a different company that understood more of what we were wanting and was more reasonably priced. 200 dollars for a "service" didn't include filters or basic cleaning that other companies offered. Should've done more research prior to contacting them. Pretty disappointed. read more

I just got charged $ 446.00 to change a $5 capacitor. I can't afford to take off another half day and I needed my AC working because I have animals, otherwise I would have called someone else. The technician was friendly and he showed up on time, but he spent less than an hour on the entire job. Let's be overboard and say the capacitor ( or as they call it a " voltage storage device" ) costs $ 50.00. That means I paid $394.00 for a service call that took less than an hour. You can do better. After 20 years of being faithful customers, we are terminating our allegiance to Access Heating and Air. Their actions over the last 13 months cause me to question their integrity and competence. As a former Machinist's Mate in the Navy (6 years), an HVAC mechanic in private industry (10 years), and a currently Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer in the State of Idaho, I recommend that you use a different HVAC shop. My reasons are multiple and the history is detailed below. On Thursday, the 2nd of February, 2017 our furnace died. An Access technician determined that the repair costs for the existing unit would cost between $2,800 and $4,400. Given the exorbitant amount quoted for a repair, I asked for replacement costs. After selecting a Trane S9V2, natural gas-fired furnace, we spent $7,400, installed. The technician stated that although their cost was higher than other shops, they were one of the best local shops when it comes to quality installation and service. I would later discover that the cost was approximately twice the market average (https://www.furnacepriceguides.com/trane/) for an installed unit of this model. Please keep in mind that this is a Thursday afternoon during a 40-year winter with nighttime temperatures in the single digits. I can't help but feel that they took advantage of me and gouged the price. I might have been okay with being over-charged during an unusually hard winter. But Access dropped the ball again in the summer of 2017, when half of the house lost all air conditioning flow from the floor vents. When contacted about the issue, Access said they couldn't be there for about a week. Seeing as how I have "a little" experience with HVAC, I decided to take a look for myself. I found an 8-foot section of 12" flex duct completely full of water--condensate from the A-coil, which is part of the A/C system. This problem wouldn't show up until the dead heat of summer, when the A/C system is running hard. My guess is that when they put in the new furnace, they didn't account for the new circ fan performance, nor the condensate drain. So the condensate just blew down into the crawl space ducting to the point that the water blocked off any air flow. Over the next week, we tried getting them to come over, argue with them over the root cause, and pushing back when they (initially) said we'd have to pay an additional service/labor fee to get the problem fixed. Eventually, with some input from me, they got the condensate problem fixed. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago, when they came out for a "routine maintenance visit." (Note: we'd paid for 3 additional years of warranty and service when we bought the furnace.) The service tech told my wife that our A/C was in bad shape. When told about my background, the tech somewhat changed his story and said that the "outside power storage unit is going bad and we have, you know, the old refrigerant. So, you're probably looking at a new unit altogether." They e-mailed two estimates to me about a week later. The quotes were for a capacitor replacement and a "new" batch of the old refrigerant ($1,400) for the basic work and ($1,750) if I wanted to get a refrigerant drier included with the basic. I called the shop and asked the technician in the office for an explanation of the quotes. To be fair, if he didn't do the work, he probably wouldn't have the details, so I asked to have the service report sent to me. Told him I wanted to see pressures, temperatures, etc., which should be on the service report. Two weeks later, and I haven't seen a thing. And the coup de grace--we called a different shop and asked them for a 2nd opinion. According to Diamond, there isn't ANYTHING wrong with our A/C. For any one of the above incidents, any shop should be embarrassed; for two offenses, a shop should be ashamed; beyond two it seems to me a pattern of unethical behavior. Funny thing is, they were completely different 20 years ago. My only guess is that they've undergone a management change in that time. I highly recommend that you take your business elsewhere. read more

This business is horrible. For 3+ years I trusted them with my home, the recent transaction of replacing my AC was a nightmare, I wish I could post pics here, they would not produce a written bid before installation, long story short, the bid and invoice they FINALLY produced after repeated requests, was dated for 9-10 days after installation, where they BILLED ME FOR ONE SYSTEM OF GREATER VALUE AND INSTALLED A INFERIOR SYSTEM THAT IS INADEQUATE TO COOL MY HOME. They said I gave permission by phone, and cannot produce that recording, and under no circumstances did I authorize anyone to pull out a 3 ton and put in a 2.5 ton, and then they billed me for a 3 ton, I have all he proof, and the conversation never happened. I have been told by other vendors that the Lennox they quoted isn't even available, no one can get it (they bid Friday for an install Monday) I cannot believe anyone would do this, let alone in the times we are currently experiencing in this world. I'm a nurse and I do not at any time in life, need this added stress, let alone during COVID. Three years ago they replaced my furnace had to do it twice because the first piece of garbage they put in failed, made a big deal that they were so kind and stepped it up to a better system at no charge, I'm petrified to find out what they have put in, it's under my house and no one but them has seen it. It always crossed my mind, "would they try to make up for that with the AC? NO, I told myself, they are honest and reputable". I am crushed, I do not have the money to replace this with an adequate system, they are dishonest, when I busted them AT THE END OF THE DAY, (they didn't tell me they were putting something different in), they pulled this big story that they did it out of the goodness of their heart, at no charge to me, I told them I didn't have more money to throw at it and I didn't authorize it, they said it would run better with my furnace (my furnace has run fine for 3 years with a Lennox AC) then they said, the system we bid wasn't available, seriously, they didn't know this at the time of bid, they bid it Friday morning for install Monday morning. AND THEY INSISTED I DIDN'T HAVE TO BE AT MY HOME FOR INSTALL. Well I was because I have dogs and they changed out the staff at the last minute 'WITHOUT TELLING ME. Turned my clinic upside down trying to cover so I could leave. Then the question of permits came up, when they came to my home to take pics (permits should have been initiated before install or at least at the time of install), the guy called me and insisted I didn't need to be home, because he only needed access to my garage to see the water heater, I told him this wasn't about a water heater, when he figured it out, he still insisted I didn't need to be home, I had to remind him my gates are always locked and MY DOGS ARE OUT !!!!! STEER VERY FAR AND CLEAR. and if anyone has any questions, I have documentation to substantiate this, I'd be happy to show you. I couldn't upload them. read more

I called just to see about getting a quote for a gas line and I couldn't even get out my request because the guy that answered was so concerned with the reviews on yelp and why I chose them. Access performed a maintenance on my a/c unit and the next day it was blowing hot air. They sent a second tech who told me after checking that the compressor was shot and I would need to buy a new unit, about $3000. I was suspicious since I just had servicing, so I had another company give me a second opinion. This tech showed me that the wires had been cross making it look like the compressor was bad. He corrected the wiring and the unit began cooling my house. I cancelled the contract and asked for a refund; my request was ignored. I will not deal with Access again. read more

My furnace was blowing cold air and it was freezing outside (and now inside). I called Access and they sent a technician over to the house. He did his assessment and gave me several options ranging from the "band-aid" that would cost almost $3,000 to the recommended $8,000+ repair. He pushed the recommended and said if I chose the band-aid it would just be enough to get it running today but I'd be calling him back soon to do more repairs. I said that was a lot of money and I'd like to get a second opinion and another estimate. He obviously didn't want me to do that and said if I gave him the ok right now he'd have the heat on in a few hours. If I got another estimate I'd have a cold house for another couple days. I insisted and he said he'd call another company and get them on a 3-way call and that way I could verify his estimate (um, no thanks I'd like to get an independent estimate). Well I called another company and was glad I did. The second technician came over and had it up and running fine in a few hours. The final cost - $400. Afterwards I showed him the Access estimate and he just shook his head and asked if he could have a copy to show his technician buddies. Stay away.... far away. read more
